Hi all, pretty nervous right now and hoping for some guidance.
On Oct. 10, I sold a personal laptop that was listed for $1499. The item was purchased, and it shipped the next day. It was shipped with signature required, as well as postal insurance. The item was delivered yesterday evening, and signed for by the "buyer". In the middle of the night, I received an "Item not delivered" request from the buyer, with some confusing context.
Buyer: Hi (Me), I received the laptop today. The laptop itself looks good, but the charger that arrived is an HP-branded adapter, not the Dell OEM charger you mentioned. You previously said it comes with the OEM charger (still wrapped in plastic). This one clearly has the HP logo. Could you please clarify:1. Is this supposed to be the original charger that came with the laptop? 2. If not, can you send the correct Dell OEM 130W USB-C charger? The laptop was listed with the charger included, so I expected the matching OEM unit.
Literally two minutes later, he sent another message.
Buyer: Hi (me), sorry, I just sent a message about the HP charger by mistake. Please disregard that. I opened the package, and the laptop is not inside at all. Only an HP-branded power adapter arrived. There is no laptop in the box. Could you please check this immediately and let me know what happened? I ordered the Dell laptop (with the OEM charger). Please advise how you will resolve this.
I questioned the buyer about how it was possible that he confirmed the condition of the laptop and two seconds later said the box was actually empty. His response:
Buyer: I initially thought the package contained the laptop because the box was the expected size, but after fully opening and checking the contents, only an HP charger was inside. There is no laptop. I have photos of the contents (HP charger only).
At this point, I have cut contact with the buyer. I'm going to reach out to FedEx and see if they can give me the initial scan receipt from drop-off, confirming the box was 8 lbs (how is an empty box with a charger 8lbs?, the weight I generated the label with).
I plan to contest the dispute with ebay when it becomes available. What measures can I take to make sure I succeed? The proceeds from the laptop is being used to cover rent. It goes without saying how screwed I'll be if eBay sides with the buyer.
I apologize if this is in the wrong place; I'm scrambling to try and protect myself.
Thank you!!
