A seller threatened me with violence and eBay saw no problem with it

He sold me a counterfeit handbag. eBay did side with me and give me a refund but this guy messaged me threatening me. The last message blacked out is my name, address and phone number! I reported it to eBay and they saw no problem with it! I’ve contacted my local law enforcement as well as the city where this psycho lives. And that’s not his pic either after I investigated.

Awesome seller made my day, for REAL.

I was looking for an empty Corsair 5000D case box with all the original protective foam inserts so I could safely ship my PC to another country, as I’m moving out of the U.S. I had been reaching out to different eBay sellers who were selling parts from the same case, hoping that one of them might happen to have an empty box lying around. I contacted this seller because they were selling a case component, and I figured it was worth asking. To my surprise, this seller came through and made it happen!

Honestly, this saved me from having to ship my PC in a couple of heavy-duty moving boxes from Home Depot, which would have been far from ideal for protecting such an expensive and delicate piece of equipment. Having the original box with the protective inserts is exactly what I needed to make sure my PC could be packed and shipped as safely as possible. I love this men.

Question Funds on hold question

• Upvotes

Recently after making any sale, the funds are always put on hold until delivered or authenticated. I presume it’s because either I’m a new seller (~4 months selling) or it’s due to suspicious activity (~$70k+ gross sales over that timeframe). Regardless is there a way to fix that or is it just something that goes away over time?

Initially after selling for a month or two, I started receiving the funds next day and it wasn’t getting placed on hold anymore. Then I made a very large $ sale, and eBay subsequently placed my account under review (which I wasn’t surprised by given my short seller history), but they cleared the review with no issues. Ever since then though (~2 months by now), all the funds started getting placed on hold again until delivery. I know it’s not a huge deal, but it definitely is an inconvenience that I’m hoping I can clear up. It also makes me not want to ship international as much as I definitely prefer not waiting over a month to get the funds in my account.

Anyone have any insight or a similar experience to this? Or possibly something else is triggering the holds?

Heres my craziest offer:🤠

This offer I received in 2018 and is my all time favorite. Unfortunately, I cant find the screenshot but I always keep a journal and have since I was a kid. I wrote this down because I knew it would always be of may favorites:

Sir or ma'am,

If I could lend me your ear but for a moment, I have a story and request that I believe I have an offer that will warm your heart.

I am but a lonely cowboy recollecting for his daddy, who died on a cattle drive out in Texas on a cold winters night. And he wore an old Blanket Lined Levi coat just like the one you are selling when he died. We couldnt get him to town for a formal funeral so we buried him cowboy style, wearing that very coat, right there on the lands we rode. I miss my daddy so much. I dont make much money, driving cattle all day doesnt pay much. I know you're asking a fair price of $950 of I'm going to ask you for a blessing. Cowboys dont lie, steal or cheat, that our code of honor. And sir or ma'am, I'll give you every penny in my bank account if you would accept it for this coat. I have $79.22 in my account. I know its not much but it will also come with the love of a lonely cowboy that misses his daddy something awful. I would ask you to give it to me for free, that would be more than I think I could bear. No, I believe in giving an honest dollar for an honest deal. If you could find it in your heart to give me the honor of wearing this old Levi coat as I drive cattle on the same land as my daddy and his daddy before him, you'll always have a cowboy on your side. Please reach into your heart and accept this money. If one day I happen to stumble upon a fortune or even a few hundred dollars, I will send it to you directly, as payment for your kindness. I hope this message warm your heart like that coat of daddy's warmed him on so many cold winter nights.

Much obliged,

Henry Cowboy Franks

🤠🤣 I thought it was a joke at first but he kept responding to my declined offers. I didn't have offers for this, so he offered is way. After many back and forth discussions he ended the it with:

Kindly f×ck off you cold hearted son of a b+tch.

Oh well. Whats your greatest offer from a buyer???

Question As a seller, what happens if an eBay Authenticity Guarantee order is returned due to insufficient address after I’ve been paid?

I sold a pair of shoes 3 weeks ago through eBay’s Authenticity Guarantee. I shipped next day and they were authenticated quickly. They still took some time to get to the seller on the opposite coast and then one week ago (I was abroad so I didn’t get the notification right away) USPS marked it “insufficient address” and said the items are being shipped back to the seller due to an incomplete address.

Question- how do I handle this? I was already paid weeks ago once they were authenticated and the buyer hasn’t messaged me. I also haven’t received the shoes back and the USPS tracking doesn’t show any new tracking back to me, only a notification of return to sender.

So many orders cancelled by seller or undelivered?!

I swear about a third of my orders in the last couple of years have been refunded usually after waiting for days. Has anyone else had this experience too?

Question Buyer wants me to start a refund instead of waiting himself

I shipped this item 5 days ago, unfortunately its been stuck on label created since with no updates at all from UPS. Now he wants me to open start a refund since he can't open it himself for at least another week.

Should I tell him to wait for the date and open the case himself or refund him now? My worry is if the item I shipped eventually gets updated. He has been very adamant on wanting a refund immediately and I am sure he will leave a negative rating if I dont return it. Is it possible to get that removed in the future by Ebay because of the situation?

$1500 dispute, please help

Hi all, pretty nervous right now and hoping for some guidance.

On Oct. 10, I sold a personal laptop that was listed for $1499. The item was purchased, and it shipped the next day. It was shipped with signature required, as well as postal insurance. The item was delivered yesterday evening, and signed for by the "buyer". In the middle of the night, I received an "Item not delivered" request from the buyer, with some confusing context.

Buyer: Hi (Me), I received the laptop today. The laptop itself looks good, but the charger that arrived is an HP-branded adapter, not the Dell OEM charger you mentioned. You previously said it comes with the OEM charger (still wrapped in plastic). This one clearly has the HP logo. Could you please clarify:1. Is this supposed to be the original charger that came with the laptop? 2. If not, can you send the correct Dell OEM 130W USB-C charger? The laptop was listed with the charger included, so I expected the matching OEM unit.

Literally two minutes later, he sent another message.

Buyer: Hi (me), sorry, I just sent a message about the HP charger by mistake. Please disregard that. I opened the package, and the laptop is not inside at all. Only an HP-branded power adapter arrived. There is no laptop in the box. Could you please check this immediately and let me know what happened? I ordered the Dell laptop (with the OEM charger). Please advise how you will resolve this.

I questioned the buyer about how it was possible that he confirmed the condition of the laptop and two seconds later said the box was actually empty. His response:

Buyer: I initially thought the package contained the laptop because the box was the expected size, but after fully opening and checking the contents, only an HP charger was inside. There is no laptop. I have photos of the contents (HP charger only).

At this point, I have cut contact with the buyer. I'm going to reach out to FedEx and see if they can give me the initial scan receipt from drop-off, confirming the box was 8 lbs (how is an empty box with a charger 8lbs?, the weight I generated the label with).

I plan to contest the dispute with ebay when it becomes available. What measures can I take to make sure I succeed? The proceeds from the laptop is being used to cover rent. It goes without saying how screwed I'll be if eBay sides with the buyer.

I apologize if this is in the wrong place; I'm scrambling to try and protect myself.

Thank you!!

Question I can't see the pay taxes option in the partner carrier (Mail Americas) who is handling the shipping

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

Hello. I'm having trouble with the parter carrier. I've already asked for help from Mail Americas but when they send the problem to a human team they came back with the same answer as the automated response, that It was a tax issue thing. I know that's the problem but for some reason the option to pay the taxes doesn't appear on the Mail Americas page. I talked with the ebay seller and they told me to wait until oct 26 (the estimated arrival date was oct 16) for a full refund. I want the package though, It's a book, I was under the impression they paid none to almost no taxes.

The seller wants the item back just because I didn't leave a feedback

• Upvotes

Yesterday, the seller sent me a message saying they want the item back, just because I didn't leave any feedback.

The item is a used Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 that’s in like-new condition; I already told the seller the other day that I need to test it first before I can leave feedback.

I don't know what to do now, any advice?

To me, this is unacceptable; just because I didn’t leave feedback, the seller wants the device back.

Question Seller unexpectedly issued a full refund

What's going on?

I recently bought an item worth several hundred euros through an eBay auction. The seller has relatively little feedback, including one negative review.

After receiving the item, I noticed a few potential red flags and contacted the seller about them. He was friendly and reassuring, saying he had already had the item examined twice and that I was welcome to have it independently checked as well. He also offered a full refund if anything turned out to be wrong.

However, about 15 minutes later, I unexpectedly received an email from eBay confirming that the seller had issued a full refund. I had never requested one, and there was no mention of returning the item.

I immediately contacted the seller to ask what had happened. About half an hour later, he replied that he wanted me to be certain the item was genuine and that I could pay him once I was satisfied.

I'm honestly quite confused by this.

What do you think is going on?

  • The seller is inexperienced and accidentally issued a full refund. It took him a while to realise what he'd done, and he's now presenting it as an act of trust.
  • The seller genuinely is that trusting, putting himself in a very vulnerable position, possibly without understanding the consequences.
  • The seller is trying to move the payment outside eBay to avoid fees, although I doubt this given how there are no seller fees anymore in these parts of Europe and a minor buyer protection fee that is shown included to the buyer.
  • The potential red flags are actually serious, the item may be counterfeit, and the seller is trying to avoid a dispute.
  • Something else entirely.

And what should I do now?

I still have the item, and the full refund has already been processed through eBay.

I have no intention of taking advantage of the seller, but I also don't want to put myself at risk.

  • I don't want to pay outside eBay without its approval, especially if there's any possibility of the original refund being reversed and me effectively paying twice.
  • I don't want to risk violating eBay's policies or losing my account.
  • I want to have the item independently authenticated before making another payment.
  • Should I contact eBay support and ask how to handle this properly?

Has anyone experienced something similar, either as a buyer or a seller?

Ebay combining items but charging me double postage

Im a seller. Ebay recently added a thing where when a buyer buys two items they end up joint together and I have to send them in the same package. However eBay is charging me for the cost of two postage labels even though they are the ones forcing me to send one package. It’s not like they even give me the option to send them separately or something. Before when I sold more than one item and I sent them together, I would “request a refund “ for the unused postage labels. However with this update I don’t even know which item to request the refund for. Im going to try of course but this is stupid. Ebay want to control every single thing you do. If it was up to me I wouldn’t even use simple delivery but they don’t even tell me the buyers address only after printing their label. Stupid stupid

UK Specific eBay refused to step in when item is rejected and returned and seller unresponsive?

I've used eBay for 20 years and this only happened to me. Will appreciate any advice.

Basically I was stupid and didn't aware I bought an item from overseas where custom duty will apply. I only realised so when Royal Mail asked for the money. I refused and asked Royal Mail to send back the item. It was stuck in Royal Mail for over one month (for reasons I don't know).

After a lot of complaints and calling Royal Mails customer hotline the item is finally sent back to the seller. Is it clearly shown on the tracking system .

I've messaged the seller on this and requested a refund and seller was unresponsive. What they said was only an acknowledgement of the tracking information.

I've asked eBay to step in but has been talking to a wall. I'm pasting their latest message below. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

----+- If you’ve been unable to come to a resolution with the Seller, you can choose to contact Citizen’s Advice or the Small Claims court, depending on the amount of the item: www.citizensadvice.org.uk / https://www.moneyclaim.gov.uk/web/mcol/welcome

Citizens Advice are able to assist with refunds when it is outside our time frame, and we recommend this quite often as it is the quickest and easiest way to learn how to obtain a refund, to which with a case such as this you are entitled. If you have a question about this topic, you can contact the Citizens Information Phone Service on 0800 144 8848 (Monday to Friday, 9am to 8pm).

Question Hi all, any opinions would be appreciated, thanks!

Thumbnail gallery
0 Upvotes

Hi, I would like you guys' opinion on if the seller actually did their due diligence to make sure such an important detail was communicated appropriately.

For context, I was at my birthday dinner when these came up in my notifications. Ive been looking a size EU 41 in this pair, so I reviewed all pictures carefully to determine item condition and checked the item specifics (and picture of shoe box) to confirm the size. I also took a look at the item description but noticed that it was the Al generated description instead of one written by the seller, so 1 moved on from it since, while I always read handwritten descriptions in case they contain important information, I tend to skip over the Al generated descriptions since they only give vague product info.

Long story short, when they arrive I notice that the left shoe is a size 41 and the right shoe is a size 40. Sure enough, I go back and check the description and realize that the seller did include that information, but only inserted as the second to last sentence in that Al generated description. I understand that because it was placed in the description there's likely nothing that I can do; however, I still don't know how I feel about it being mixed in with the filler Al description and nowhere else.

I'm also a seller and whenever I sell an item that is damaged or has some really important information that I believe that the buyer needs to know, I'll always place it in the title and/or very clearly as part of my hand written description. Selling two completely different size shoes as one pair is a pretty big deal and, since there's no way to tell that there would be anything wrong with the pair from its pictures, title, or item specifics, I believe it shouldn't have been kind of hidden away in some Al-generated filler words.

Product descriptions

Why does nobody scroll down and read the product information?!? Everyday it’s the same question
(I have 20 rings and various other jewelry listed)
“What size is this ring?” It’s listed in the same place eBay places all of that information..
I really just want to tell them to read the freaking description?! It’s not hard, it’s all right there for you. Instead I have to be professional and just respond “US 6.5” it’s an almost daily occurrence on Etsy as well, sometimes it’s even in the title.
Is anyone else experiencing this? It’s gotten so bad recently.

Question Why do something like this as a seller

I've been looking for some older niche pins for a pin collection for a year and I've noticed that there are sellers who list collections of like 30 pins that are individually probably worth like $15 dollars, for THOUSANDS of dollars and let them sit on Ebay at that price. Similarly sold auctions for similar numbers of pins go for like $150-$250 and then this persons' auction sits at multiple thousands.

What is the purpose in doing this as a seller? Is it a form of market manipulation to make this stuff seem more valuable? Or are they just hoping someone buys it without thinking? Or do they really not want these items to sell and are just doing something weird?

What is the purpose of pricing something with a 1,000 PERCENT markup?

You want it soooo bad, then just pay what I am asking

Selling a vintage item, not super expensive, less than a couple hundred bucks, but collectable none the less. I get an offer for less than 40% of asking price, politely decline, and counter with my best price, they come back $5 more than the initial offer.

Blocked.

Next day, new offer, different buyer, same zipcode/town -
"im a collector. you're right. it checks all the boxes. but i can't afford them at this price. and you wont go down. i don't think anyone would wants these for the price listed no disrespect. i dont want to be unprofessional or be on bad terms with your business. but i want these. and i can't afford then at XXX."

a minute later -
"there way too much. i think its overpriced"

another minute -
"if there up for a month or two. would you consider XX for them?"

One more minute -
"i need them"

Blocked.

Then this morning, a new offer, new buyer, same town, same zipcode. Same low price.

Guess what?

Blocked.

Three different accounts, makes me think they are worth way more than I am asking! LOL!

Happy selling all.

Buyer says they never received item, USPS says it was delivered

I’m a relatively new seller and only sell a few extra things here and there. Recently I sold an item, USPS says it was delivered, buyer says they never got it and wants a refund. What’s my best option here or best way to handle this?

I was randomly checking my listings and noticed this ai generated image eBay added. I don’t remember accepting this image in my listing and I don’t see an option to not have it auto added in the future. Anyone experience this?

Did The Seller Leave eBay?

It’s kind of frustrating. Lately I have run into several sellers that seem like they are not actually selling on eBay anymore.
The seller has good feedback and lots of items listed. But I buy the item and they never ship or contact me.
Now this could be the seller had some health issues or something else going on. But it’s so frustrating to have your money tied up for weeks. And it’s even worse when the item goes up in price. Anyone else seeing this issue more often? Or am I just unlucky? lol

USPS geo-based pricing updates effective October 18, 2026

https://community.ebay.com/forum/announcements-57928/topic/usps-geo-based-pricing-updates-effective-october-18-2026-486459/

USPS geo-based pricing updates effective October 18, 2026

USPS is updating how it prices some domestic shipments. Today, these shipments use two rate groups: standard and rural. Under the new geography-based pricing structure, USPS will use three rate groups for Ground Advantage shipments, based on the package’s destination ZIP code, in addition to standard rates. While this is not an overall rate increase, shipping prices may vary more depending on the destination, with rates increasing or decreasing for some ZIP codes. View the USPS geo-based ZIP code list.

USPS may adjust these rates periodically. If you use calculated shipping on eBay, the shipping costs will be automatically calculated so buyers will see an accurate shipping rate based on their location. Shipping with eBay Labels remains simple, and we’ll continue to pass along the best available discounts to our sellers. Most buyers will not see a rate increase as a result of this change.

What to know for October 18:

  • USPS Ground Advantage: Pricing will reflect the updated geo-based rate cards.
  • USPS Priority Mail: There are no pricing updates at this time.

-------------

Above is a copy/paste of eBay's announcement for rate changes coming on Sunday.

Instead of standard and rural rates, there will now be standard plus 3 geo-based tiers for Ground Advantage packages for a total of 4 potential rate tiers for each zone.

Priority is unchanged with 2 rate tiers: standard and rural.

-------------

Oct 16, 7:45am PDT: Editing this post as several people have said this update is confusing, or they are expecting a lot of increases, so here's the breakdown based on the Geo B-D zip list:

Geo A (16,063 zips) = standard / non-rural (deepest discount) - the bulk of volume. As eBay's announcement said most labels will not see an increase on Oct 18, these rates will probably be fairly similar to what they are today.
Geo B (7,625 zips) = formerly non-rural, will likely see an increase.
Geo C (14,275 zips) = formerly rural, will likely see a lower rate.
Geo D (3,591 zips) = unchanged rural, unchanged published Commercial rate.
