Don’t post about tickets.

If you are looking to buy or sell concert tickets you are very likely to get scammed. It's as simple as that.

Don't buy tickets on Reddit, however desperate you are, it's a crazy risk. There are proper channels for resale of tickets, use them.

So if you post about selling tickets here we will remove the post and may ban you. Please don't do it.

Posting about Tickets, Accommodation, Tourism? Things that aren't related to Dublin? Read This First.

This subreddit is primarily for people who live in Dublin. There's a dedicated sub for tourism posts with a huge archive at r/irishtourism Please check that first, and if you have a really specific question come back here and we'll try to help. Low effort posts asking for recommendations of "hidden gems" and "off the beaten track" tourist attractions will be met with scorn, and probably removal.

If you are looking to buy or sell concert tickets you are very likely to get scammed. It's as simple as that. Don't buy tickets on reddit, however desperately your niece wants to see Taylor Swift or whatever, it's a crazy risk. There are proper channels for resale of tickets, use them.

Looking for a cheap flat? A room in a shared house? Wondering if a specific part of the city is "safe" (whatever that means)? There's a sub for that too- /r/RentingInDublin/

Post your message there, not here.

A regular thing that comes up seems to be folks who have a very short time in Dublin and want to know what they can do in four or five hours or so. Just search this sub with the word "layover" and you'll see many many threads about this subject. Don't start a new one.

Similarly, threads about general issues which are not particularly Dublin-specific (salaries, national politics, international relations, stuff like that) may be removed.

At the latest estimate there are over a million Irish subreddits, so you will certainly be able to find somewhere to post your non-Dublin-relevant content.

Thanks for reading!

The Hellfire Club, one of my favourite places in Dublin

Shame on Coillte and the SDCC for what they plan to do with one of our best free amenities in the country. I’m all for a few trees being knocked down for a more comprehensive car park being put in to place but the ‘visitor centre’ plan is just a disgrace.

I’m sure it’s been talked about numerous times on here but my anger just resurged after taking a trip up there recently.

This country is a joke

Living in a new development on Dublin’s Northside has turned into a daily security nightmare. Over the last two months, intruders have repeatedly broken into our internal garage to steal bikes and ransacked our mailroom for deliveries.

We even know who these individuals are and where they live, but reporting it to the Gardaí has yielded zero results. Today is a prime example: we called the Gardaí three hours ago while an incident was ongoing, and we are still waiting for someone to show up.

Because there are currently zero consequences for these criminals, residents are terrified that they will soon start trying to force their way into our apartments. We are honest, tax-paying people, working hard everyday and the complete lack of protection or accountability we are experiencing right now is completely unacceptable.

Update: Gardai never turned up, so we’re heading to the Garda station in person today. We’ve already reported this to building management multiple times. Does anyone have advice on how to get this sorted? Should we contact local TDs, the city council, or the press? How can we stop this before something worse happens?

Update: The Gardaí finally showed up. They said they will check the CCTV footage, but even if they make an arrest, the suspects will likely be released soon by a judge. It seems they already know who these people are, and they told us they will probably continue with this behaviour. They recommended that we pressure building management for tighter security measures in the building.

Teenagers and Racism !

I am an Indian female living in Dublin for around 2 years now and it shocks me to see how teenagers behave in some areas. I was out shopping with my husband in the Tesco at Clarehall and a group of teenagers saw us and decided it was fun to get a pack of raw beef and pork and throw it in our trolly with other food items we had . Absolutely horrible behaviour, I know it was intended to hurt us and any religious sentiments we would have and get a reaction out of us. It’s quite sad and ignorant to see the kids who are will be adults in a few years behave this way. I lived in Birmingham , UK before this which according to a lot of people is the doggiest part of England but I never faced anything even remotely close to what I see in Dublin today ! I wish parents, legal system and the schools did something , taught these kids some kindness.

Where in Dublin City can I find a unique/handmade Christmas stocking for my baby?

Our baby was born in Ireland. I would love to find a sweet stocking to get him but don’t want something generic, would prefer something handmade/Irish made as a keepsake that can last him a long time. Any local craftspeople someone can recommend? Thank you

TIA

Anti Irish ads on YouTube

So……
Anyone else keep seeing those weird “Douglas Murray attacks Ireland ads” on YouTube
The ones that try to sound like a response video rather than an advert?
If you haven’t seen them, they feature British commentator Douglas Murray giving out about Ireland, bringing up our WWII neutrality, and calling the Irish "descendants of Hitler lovers" to claim Ireland has no moral authority on the world stage.

It’s formatted to feel like a pro Irish, anti Murray ad, but the ads are actually paid for and pushed by pro-Israel advocacy groups such as Hallelu, the Forum for Israel’s International Relations. You can check the “about this ad” section under the ad to view the funder paying for it.

They aren't trying to make you dislike Douglas Murray, they are just using his monologue as a weapon against Ireland's because popular opinion is largely critical of Israel. They are framing it as the Irish publics stance being based on historical bias and not on the current events rolling out in Gaza.

I don’t know how to flag an advert for political propaganda but if you do please let me know.

Luas fine

Had tagged on to the dart this morning before going to the Luas and apparently forgot to tag on at the Luas stop. Just my luck get a ticket inspector, give him my ticket not thinking anything was wrong. Even though I was still within the TFI 90 minute fare he said I had to be fined but that I could appeal.

Has anyone had the same thing happen? Ive appealed but not sure I will get any leniency. Is there anything I can do? Do I not pay the fine and contest in court or just take this as a harsh lesson learned?

Airport arrival times- car drop off

Never been out of Dublin airport before and I’m dropping off a rental car. Flight leaves at 11:30AM Saturday heading to JFK (USA). If I make it to the drop off for the car around 8AM will be okay on time? Flying out of terminal 2 tomorrow with a checked bag. I’ll have to fill out a VAT envelope as well.

I’m a nervous flyer so I’m sitting in my hotel in Galway wondering when I should be leaving the car park.

Also for what it’s worth I’ve loved my time here. Gracious people, wonderful food, and clean city streets (very impressive)

Children's Health Ireland at Crumlin - Parking

From the North, and need to visit CHIC at 9am in a few weeks. Its already a stressful time knowing the upcoming surgery my child will need to have (this trip is meeting the surgical team). I plan on driving down the night before, staying in a hotel, but I'm hearing parking is a nitemare at CHIC. Walking more than 10 mins is not possible, and due medical needs, bus is also out. Is there anywhere to park if we can't get into CHIC or should I just get a taxi ? What taxi companies? Any help appreciated, even with hotel to avoid

What’s up with the clear plastic string backpacks?

I saw two people wearing them on the dart on the way to work. Then I saw a group of people wearing the same thing outside my office. Then when I walked home, I saw a bunch more people wearing them! I work in the Docklands if that matters.

They were clear plastic drawstring bags/backpacks that looked like they were filled with groceries or something. What’s up them? Did I miss a trend? An event?

Same pub every weekend? There are 573 other things to do in Dublin, here are 10.

It's a bank holiday weekend and the Bram Stoker Festival is on, so there's no better excuse to skip the usual local.

I'm building a free app that tracks what's on in Dublin, and it found 573 things between Friday and Monday (not counting regular cinema). That's more than anyone can get through in four days, so I picked 10 that make the most of a long weekend: free stuff, Halloween, a couple of big gigs and one great talk.

BRAM STOKER FESTIVAL (FRI–MON)

- Macnas parade: Fiáin · North East Inner City · Bank Holiday Monday evening · free. Giant puppets and live music from the Galway company, near where Stoker once lived. Expect road closures.

- Stitch · Smock Alley · Fri 23 to Mon 26, 7pm · €20 · strictly 18+. One-woman horror show inspired by Frankenstein: a forgotten girl reborn on Samhain night. First time in Dublin after Cork Midsummer.

WITH KIDS

- Stokerland · St Patrick's Park · Sat 24 to Mon 26 · free. The festival's gothic pop-up park in the shadow of the cathedral. Bring them in costume.

- Luggwoods Fall Festival · Luggwoods, Dublin 24 · Sat 24 & Sun 25 · from €15.95 (kids €24.95). A little train into the woods, then a pumpkin patch where every kid picks their own pumpkin to take home.

- Craic from the Crypt · Ardgillan Castle, Balbriggan · nightly from 5pm · €12 (kids €8, family €38). The ghosts of the Taylor family show you round their old home. Funny and genuinely a bit scary. Ages 8+.

HORROR

- IFI Horrorthon · IFI, Temple Bar · until Mon 26 · €15 a film · 18+. Five days of new horror plus folk-horror classics. Saturday is a horror Prom Night with EGG Cabaret, and on Monday Stephen Horne plays live to the silent The Cat and the Canary.

ART

- Hilma af Klint · National Gallery · all weekend · tickets from free to €16, under-18s free. Her first big show in Ireland. She was painting abstract before Kandinsky.

GIGS

- TOMORA · National Stadium · Sat 24, 8pm · €59.95. Tom Rowlands of The Chemical Brothers plus AURORA. Their London date is already sold out.

- Boney M · National Stadium · Sun 25 · €50. First Dublin show in ten years, on their Final Curtain Tour. Rasputin, Daddy Cool, Rivers of Babylon. You will sing.

TALK

- An Evening with Fran Lebowitz · Convention Centre · Sun 25, 7:30pm · from €66.40. Pretend It's a City, live. Expect opinions on tourists, celebrity culture and baby strollers.

What am I missing? Happy to add things in the comments.

P.S. Want to see the other 563? They're all in the app, so you can find the ones that are your thing. It's free, link in the comments.

Anywhere specific in Dublin selling VHS tapes?

I scour Facebook marketplace, Adverts.ie and Vinted frequently but the prices do be through the roof depending on the film. Does anyone know of anywhere specific in Dublin that sells secondhand vhs tapes? I know Sue Ryder in Kimmage does but anyone able to confirm others?
