Cyclists not stopping at red light at Clanwilliam Place, Dublin 2

I am a cyclist and a pedestrian. When cyclists have red lights in the bicycle lane at this junction and pedestrians have green to cross this junction it is appalling that dozens of cyclists plough through the green man and endanger and terrify pedestrians trying to legally cross the cycle lane. The number of times I've been crossing at the green man only to have to jump back to where I started because of ignorant cyclists at the junction is unreal. And also, when at the front of the queue as a cyclist at the junction when facing a red bicycle light - the hassle from cyclists behind trying to force the law abiding cyclist to break the red light and plough through pedestrians is a disgrace.

Advice for Halloween

Hey guys, I'm visiting Dublin from Oct 31 to Nov 1 for Halloween. We're going to Farmaphobia and will be back in Dublin around 11 PM. We'd love to go out dancing (we mainly listen to Hip-Hop and Reggaeton), but we're open to any kind of recommendations or ideas for that late! What would you suggest?

Reacting to sneaky public photos which people take to dox and shame you.

Hi all,
Bit older male here, wear glasses and have to directly focus on what I am looking at.

Was on a train to Drogheda earlier today, midway in the carriage. Was in one of those moments where I was thinking about something and had a non-focussed stared out to the carriage door.
Returned to the present moment and realised on the other side of the door, behind the plexiglass screen on an inwards facing seat was a young person, say 18-20 now looking back me and taking a photo of me.

Ok, I get the concerns about creepy old guy 'staring' but seriously, taking a photo when I did not -'assault you' - rather had a vacant stare moment, well, go and f@&k right off.

If I took a photo of some young woman on the train, then yeah sure it's definitely a creepy old guy scenario.

Me standing up, going over to you and making a fucking scene by speaking loudly and firmly, aka in your eyes - 'yelling at you' because you fu$king did a right c@nt act, well I'd understand that being an issue too.

Though no matter how much I wanted to go over and tear you a new one for being a right c@nt, I didn't go over and speak to you, but you likely posted me on some local social media closed group - 'be on the look out for some old creepy guy on the train' - page.

Seriously, I could right flip out at how I see these young social-media bound, approval and attention seeking, virtue signalling c@nts act and behave in public without being called out.

They right need a fu$&ing dose of consequences.

Drumnigh Manor - Portmarnock

Hi Folks,

Odd question but I have a Nolans Kitchen (Truman) in storage that was never installed in house type A1 within Drumnigh Manor. I am planning to fit it in my own place in the next week and wondered if anyone could confirm the build materials? I know it's a quartz island unit but not sure about the rest. Also, if anyone had the dimensions for the integrated fridge and dishwasher that would be great.

Why are parks surrounded by fences?

Around me in D24, all the big, open-space parks seem to be surrounded by fences. Butler McGee Park, Jobstown Park, Killinarden Park, Kiltalown Park, just to name a few examples. You can only enter through some specific access points, which are open 24/7. It just seems unnecessary and inconvenient.

There is one section of Cheeverstown Road where there are parks on both sides so the whole road is just encircled by fences.

There are many cul-de-sacs which directly face a park but there is a fence and no access point. There might be an access point very close by, but the parents prefer the kids to just play in front of the house, so the kids just kick the football in the street.

The area near me is a suburban area which has too not much going on. It's not like city centre where maybe the parks need to be guarded more carefully.

Anyone in Dublin interested in trading, quantitative finance or building an investment business?

I’m 26, working as a trainee actuary in Dublin, and have been trading financial markets for around 3.5 years, primarily ES and NQ futures.
Long term, my ambition is to build an investment management business, potentially a hedge fund. I know that’s a massive goal, but it’s something I’d like to seriously work towards over the coming years.
I’m looking to connect with someone around my age who has similar ambitions and would be interested in working towards something together.
Ideally someone with an interest in trading, quantitative finance, programming, financial markets or entrepreneurship. You don’t need to be an experienced trader — I’d be equally interested in meeting someone with strong Python, maths or statistics skills.
My idea is to start with a 90-day project involving strategy research, backtesting, developing our skills and holding each other accountable. We’d ideally meet once a week in Dublin to work together and review progress.
I’m not looking for money, investors, or anyone to trade on my behalf. Just someone who’s ambitious, willing to put in serious work and interested in potentially building something over the long term.
If that sounds like you, feel free to comment or send me a DM. Would be great to meet some like-minded people in Dublin.

Profitable small businesses

Hey! What are some of the most profitable small businesses in Dublin? Obviously not talking about crazy profits or anything, but something where you are actually not burning money every month. I have been wanting to really try something out on a small scale where I can put in the effort and grind. Pet food space seems interesting but the regulations are pretty difficult.

Electric buses route 13

Last few days most buses on route 13 Dublin Bus have been the new fully electric type vehicles. In my past year using the 13 for commuting, I don't think I ever encountered the electric buses on this route.

Would anyone know is there a reason for this sudden change? I'm not complaining either, just curious really. I remember hearing in the news that there was a shortage of charging facilities in bus depots, maybe this has been rectified?

Moving to Dublin for a month in July 2027 - Searching for Housing

My wife and I (and two kids - 1 yo, 4 yo) are moving to Dublin for a month for work. My wife's office is in Ballsbridge so ideally we would want to live in that area. Does anyone have any advice on how we should go about finding a place to live. Airbnb? VRBO?

Also does anyone have any tips on child care. Do we just look to hire a nanny or is there a summer program we could put the kids in? Dates would entire month of July.

Hi,
We lost a small handbag (kate spade) around Carrickmines or near bray beach parking. We are not sure but these are 2 places. It contains some important documents. If someone has found it, can you please return those. Thanks a lot.

General and recycling waste being combined in the same bin truck

I’ve always been cynical about recycling bar metals, glass and certain plastic but this surprised me.

I live in a managed estate in Dubin with general waste and recycling bins collected by one of the main players in town.  I was out in the bin area this morning when the men collected the rubbish and noticed both the black and green bins being emptied into the same truck.   Previously separate trucks would come for each bin.  This truck wasn’t divided into two sections like the ones that service my parents down the country and empty general waste and recycling bins into their own halves.  I queried it with one of the lads and he said that it is separated at the processing plant.

Surely paper and cardboard that is not just being mixed but compacted with general waste is good for nothing.  Anyone here with their own insights?

Dublin slang?

I've noticed for a while that my dad (originally from Crumlin) will say 'I make' instead of saying 'I mean'. I don't bring it up cause I like hearing it.

So I'm wondering if this is a Dublin slang thing or a him thing, has anyone heard it before?

Maybe he's just combining I mean and I think or I'm like???

This is one of the worst scammers I've ever come across. Here's what happened.

Post image
251 Upvotes

My friend lost his job a few weeks ago, and this guy offered him a new job. They agreed on the payment and other details. However, the guy asked my friend to buy some equipment, including boots and pants, costing around €230. He told my friend to bring the receipt so he could reimburse him in cash.

My friend did as he was told, and the guy then sent him to one of his friends to collect the rest of the equipment. He promised to pay my friend at the end of the day.

My friend went to meet the guy's friend, but he ghosted him. My friend then called the guy who had offered him the job, but he ghosted him too. Later that evening, he texted my friend and promised to pay him the following day.

My friend went to the agreed location at the exact time, but the guy was nowhere to be found and didn't answer his calls.

That evening, he texted my friend again, promising to pay him the next day. And guess what? The exact same thing happened. My friend called him several times, but he ignored most of his calls. When he finally answered one of them, my friend told him he was going to report him to the Gardaí. The guy then started apologising, saying things like, "I'm sorry, I don't have any money," and so on.

My friend asked him to return the equipment so he could take it back to the shop and get a refund. The guy agreed and told him to meet at another location, but once again, he failed to show up.

This is just bizarre, guys. He keeps promising to pay my friend back or return the equipment, but every single time, he ghosts him.

I offered to go to the Gardaí with my friend, but we honestly don't have much hope of getting our money back, even though we have plenty of evidence, including WhatsApp messages. It seems like the guy deliberately scammed my friend, yet we're worried that the Gardaí might not take this kind of situation seriously.

I wanted to make people aware of this guy's behaviour so that nobody else falls victim to the same scam. I know there are scammers in every city, but deliberately taking advantage of a young student who has just lost his job is absolutely disgraceful.

If anyone has any advice or suggestions on what we should do, we'd really appreciate your help. I also think we need to stand together and support each other against people like this. If we don't help one another, who will?
