Question Bad battery?

I've got an old Altair Aerial Blackhawk and the 2S registers 7.7V but after the motors start, it only lasts a few seconds before the controller starts beeping. Can the battery be bad and still register a voltage that high?

Question Interesting career pivot? Would appreciate your input.

thinking of fun career pivots as healthcare burnt me out and ill be immigrating to ecuador.

noticed ecuador has relatively lax commercial drone licensing requirements and some niche agricultural applications.

could be a great apocalypse skill and a way to explore a beautiful country, maybe even ingratiate myself with new neighbors if they need a favor etc.

IWTL from scratch, responsibly, methodically, how to fly drones at a commercial skill level. Where do i start?

Question Tomzon Dp40 GPS Mini Drone app not available.

Hello, I am brand new to drones. Was Given a Tomzon DP40 mini Drone today. It charges and seems to work, but the app that is linked in the user manual no longer is available.

I'm new, never had a drone before. Is this thing a paper weight now? Or is it still ok for recording footage and reviewing later? I wanted to be able to fly it back to where my chickens are and check on them.

What options do I have, and thank you very much in advance for helping!

Question: Rules, Regulations, Law, Policy, Certificates [United Kingdom] Drones at Scotland's Highlands

Hey guys!

I'm going to scotland next year, and I'm planning on purchasing a drone specifically for this trip.

However, my research has confused me a bit. I'm ok with the CAA regulations I must follow as well as the Operator and Flyer ID. That makes sense.

What's not clear is where I can or can't fly, as dictated by the CAA.

For example, for some parts under the NTS, it seems I must ask first and also have a 2mil insurance. Is that only for professional drones, or even mini recreational ones as well?

If so, I don't think it makes sense. I'd get a drone and basically would not be able to fly it anywhere.

How does it actually works?

Thanks!

Moro no Brasil. Alguém poderia me dar umas dicas ou experiências para me ajudar a dar certo esse negócio?

Tech Support Autel Explorer v2 Issue.

Today I installed Autel Explorer v2 app on an old Android phone via Autel´s own direct download (since app got pulled out of both Apple and Android stores). Everything seems to be working well except from the map, which never loads. Connection to drone (Evo II), warnings, controls are fine, location, sound, gallery permissions are granted. Any idea on how to fix it?

Discussion: Rules, Regulations, Law, Policy, Certificates [United States] Part 108 and small, low risk civilian drones.

The fact sheet put out by the FAA seems to imply that they intend to make it easier for consumer, hobbyist, or other low risk flights to be approved for BVLOS, but in the actual Part 108 that is currently being considered, there doesn't seem to be any room for that sort of exception.

Is there any intention to allow hobbyists to fly BVLOS in the future? It doesn't make sense to restrict these sorts of flights in rural areas for small drones. A sub 250g drone poses about the same threat as a pigeon flying overhead. I understand Amazon and others have interests in keeping the sky clear so they can have a monopoly on drone delivery, but even in such cases a small consumer drone poses no more threat to their operations than wildlife.

Has there been any movement on the consumer/hobbyist front? Do you think consumer recreational BVLOS flights will be allowed in the future? It's a known fact that the majority of hobbyists do it anyway, watch any drone video on YouTube and there's some Joe Schmoe flying 4 miles out over the treeline.

Tech Support SIYI MK15 Air Unit won't power on with a new 4S–18S BEC. Could my CUAV PMU Lite 2 be the problem?

Post image
6 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I'm building a custom hexacopter and having trouble powering my SIYI MK15 Air Unit. I've replaced the original BEC, but the new one also appears to produce almost no output voltage. I'm trying to determine whether this is a BEC problem, a compatibility issue, or something related to my CUAV PMU Lite 2.

Hardware

- Flight controller: CUAV Pixhawk V6X

- Power module: CUAV PMU Lite 2, 5V version

- Battery: 6S LiPo, 22.2V nominal

- Radio system: SIYI MK15 Enterprise Combo

- New BEC/power module: SIYI 4S–18S module advertised for the HM30 Air Unit

- Connections: PMU Lite 2 battery output → XT90-to-XT60 adapter → BEC input → XT30 output → Air Unit

My original SIYI BEC appeared to have failed. It received approximately 22.2V, but its output measured around 0.2mV, so I ordered a replacement. Unfortunately, the new BEC appears to have the same problem.

Measurements and symptoms

  1. The PMU Lite 2 battery output measures approximately 22.00V.

  2. The XT90-to-XT60 adapter also measures approximately 22.00V.

  3. The new BEC's XT30 output measures approximately 0.01V on my multimeter in DC voltage mode. I still need to verify the reading directly across the BEC input and repeat the output measurement with the Air Unit disconnected.

  4. The Air Unit does not appear to power on, and I cannot establish the expected connection through QGroundControl on the MK15 monitor.

I noticed that many setup videos show the older CUAV PMU Lite 1, while my setup uses the newer PMU Lite 2. According to the specifications, the PMU Lite 2's battery output carries battery voltage, while its 5.2V regulated output is on a separate connector.

I don't want to assume the PMU Lite 2 is defective, but I'm wondering whether there is something important about the power path or connection that I'm missing.

One additional uncertainty is the Air Unit generation. My seller described the unit as an older MK15 Air Unit, but the physical unit does not clearly identify itself as either MK15 or HM30. The replacement module is advertised as a 4S–18S HM30 power module.

Questions

  1. Should the PMU Lite 2 battery output work with an external SIYI 4S–18S power module in this configuration?

  2. Could the newer HM30 power module be incompatible with an older MK15 Air Unit, even if the battery voltage is within the module's input range?

  3. If approximately 22V reaches the BEC input but its XT30 output remains near 0V with the Air Unit disconnected, does that point to a faulty BEC or another possible issue?

  4. What exact wiring or measurements would you check next to identify the fault?

I would appreciate advice from anyone who has used a SIYI MK15/HM30 with a CUAV PMU Lite 2. I can provide photos of the modules, labels, connectors, and wiring.

Thank you!

Repair Riparazione DJI Avita

Lost Drone Drone Perdu Étang Baker QC Canada

Merci !!

New Drones! specta controller compatibility

I own a Specta Mini drone. Quite happy with it but I'm planning to upgrade to a DJI avata 360 or a different intermediate level drone. Will it's controller work with DJI drones? I know that the batteries don't, but is it true for controllers as well? I'm open to buying Specta Air if someone knows where they're still available. My sister is currently in China so I'm hoping it would make up for the cost difference. Id appreciate any suggestions on which drone to purchase. I'm looking at under $600 (China pricing is cheaper)

Photo & Video Iflight Nazgul Evoque f6D v2 - DJI O4 Air Unit Pro - Gyroflow issue

I bought Iflight Nazgul Evoque f6D v2 recently that has DJI O4 Air Unit Pro.

And it has terrible gyroflow stabilization - basically, after stabilization, it is worse than before.

I checked lots of YouTube videos on the issue (2026 gyro chip change for pro version from DJI) and didit find the solution

I also changed PWM to 48 - but the result is basically the same.

Here I have a video for demonstration, no props - static drone.

Non-stabilized video basically doesn't have any vibrations visible in the video but after gyroflow it is useless.

Is there any solution at this moment for this issue with latest DJI O4 Air Unit Pro units apart from scrapping gyro data and letting Gyroflow calculate it - which is not the best solution?

I tried as well FPVFlow but result is basically the same.

Question Question about Autel

I recently inherited a 1st generation Autel EVO. It’s basically brand new with 3 batteries and assorted cables and charger. I read the manual and tried to power it on. The controller refuses to bind with the vehicle.

My question is basically should I spend any time trying to remediate this drone? While it appears to be in excellent condition, I realize the Autel has left the consumer drone market and there does not appear to be any support for this hardware.

Not being able to bind the drone and controller. I can’t even tell what version of firmware it is running as this can only be accomplished using the controller.

Any feedback or suggestions would be appreciated.

Cheers

Canada's most northern settlement and as close to the north pole as I'll ever get. Didn't have a computer with me so this video is unedited other than sped up 2x and slapped a generic pretty song with the GO FLY editing app.

Insanely gorgeous landscape though.

Tech Support Lost checkpoint mission

For some unknown reason, my controller froze while I was editing a waypoint mission. Unfortunately, it overwrote the existing mission, reducing the number of waypoints.

My question is: is there any way to recover the original mission?

Alternatively, is there any software that can extract flight metadata from the photos, such as GPS coordinates, aircraft heading, and gimbal pitch angle? If so, I could recreate the mission from scratch.

Drone: Mini 5 Pro FMC, controler: RC2

Photo & Video I made a custom RTMP server with software!

Post image
4 Upvotes

I do a lot of public safety stuff for large events like festivals.

I made a custom streaming service to run RTMP to a raspberry pi so a security control room can just plug in my pi, connect to the internet and they have a live feed of the drone.

The pi also records the entire stream automatically in the background which is saved locally on the machine so security teams can review and playback footage without interrupting the actual drone operation or asking me to play back footage. I just fly and they can view a whole days footage without asking me to retrieve anything.

Also because its RTMP I don't have to worry about HDMI cables plugged into capture cards. its a totally wireless operation. Generally for stability I use starlink but I can just hotspot from my phone to establish a link and if ground teams only need to see the live footage without the playback function they can just type in the url of the stream to view on their phone/ laptop.

FYI this was a labour of love. i'm not selling a product but things like this add a degree of professionalism and value to a service. the whole monitor in a hard case for my use case is a complete waste of time. especially if I can get sub second streams to a laptop by typing in a url.
