I’ve had this Dreamcast for a bit now and it’s a lot of fun. Currently, I’m waiting on receiving parts I plan to install (new PSU, GDEMU, and a fan) to replace certain components. But now I’m on the fence if my Dreamcast should also receive a new facelift to house these brand new parts. The one that I currently have isn’t that yellowed per se but it could look better. I found a replacement shell near me for $40 which looks promising, but then I’ll fall down this debate with myself again down the line once it also inevitable yellows. What are your guy’s thoughts, does my system look alright or should I just get a new shell?

Also how is that replacement process like to anyone who’s tried it with other shells?

I’ve been hitting up all of the GameStops around me since they are doing the 4 for $20 and 4 for 10 sale, and found these 3 in the retro section. All complete and discs are all mint!

Has anyone else using a gdemu clone noticed frequent crashes especially when running something like shenmue 2, or other heavy dreamcast games? I have been trying everything I can think of to create a stable environment for things to run in, but I am ready to give in to the nagging idea that I just got a crap unit. Chinese seller on Amazon, so I guess it's probably a crapshoot.

I was hoping someone might double check me on some steps I have taken as I have worn google out.

Reformatted my samsung pro sd card (512 gb) to fat32 w/ 64kb cluster allocation using Rufus
(Has anyone found that larger cards are problematic?)

Edit: I am using Openmenu and GDmenu Card Manager as well.

I’ve seen usb adapters for the Dreamcast controller port but I’m not sure if that will supply a backlit keyboard with enough power to turn it on.

Hey all, I faffed up when removing the bios chip from my VA0 (it was a whole thing). Are there alternative points I can solder to or am I stuck having to try and repair the traces?

I just bought the raphnet dc to usb adapter to play my dc games on the redream emulator on my nvidia shield with my original controller. Adapter is recognized and I can use the controller but some buttons (l and r trigger) are not mapped right. They are recognized as axis-17 and axis-18 and in the mapping menu I can't change this. The buttons just don't react.

Any ideas? Or is there a better emulator. Would be happy hearing from your experiences.

tl;dr: Way more games compatibility on SD card (and smoother gameplay), QoL improvements, new board planned for release once JLPCB ships it and I test it. Gerbers will be available on my git once testing finishes.

New board project will be fully implemented with the 3.0 release, and it combines wireless, TRUE SD card storage, a raspberry Pi, secondary/tertiary/etc BIOS, all on one board! I have a lot of testing to do with this one, but it will retain your GD-ROM.

After I saw the price of CF cards, I went down this rabbit hole. :). Like $200 for 128gb CF is absurd. You can get a terabyte SD for less.

I melted my brain on this compatibility release, spending a good week trying to get "CD Audio" working. The short of it is, some games have audio tracks on them that play at the same time as the game, so I needed two workers running at the same time to get the game working as it should. The feature is still "experimental" and has only been tested on a few games. Many WinCE games also are like this, and that was an extra special task balancing those two problems.

Electrical connections on the board are almost 100% finalized. I need to whip out the multimeter and test continuity between certain points and check voltages, then it's ready for a prototype. It's a 6-layer PCB with ~700 connections made in Ki-CAD.

Roadmap for future versions:

Before 3.0

• VMU emulation
• CHD loading and better CSO support (this will be pure pain)
• Full ATA/IDE compatibility
• Screenshot engine?
• Bug fixes

3.0 and onward:

• New fancy shmancy board with wifi, SD card storage, multiple BIOS options. FULL SPEED.

I wanna sell my Dreamcast since i need the money, things have been pilling up lately. This console has been recapped by me with the console5 capactitors, main board only. It has a Gdemu with 64gb storage, noctua fan, controller port mod and the heat mod for gdemu so it won't overheat.

I’m going to get a preloaded SD card with games on it, there is two options Gdmenu version and OpenMenu version.

Does the OpenMenu run ok on a Gdemu clone 5.20? I’ve heard that it causes the Dreamcast or the games to crash and can mess up the SD card is this true ?

My first DC ever and its a pretty crazy special edition one! It is open box condition and T/W. Any Reccomended games? I will be region freeing it so japanese and American games please and thank you 🙏

I know “Retro.Cool” & “Muramasa“ sells high quality replacement shells, along with the super talented artist who makes customized Dreamcast shells as well.

But the white, cream coloured shells of the original Dreamcast is just unbeatable. There’s an eBay seller from Australia that sells shells with the SEGA logo on them. But they still lack the “Powered by Windows CE” logo which looks so good and is a huge part of the Dreamcast.

Anywhere I can buy White Shells?
