I have no social media in my phone (only reddit which i use like 10 min a day) im good the days i dont have to go to work and weekends, just Netflix, creative projects, reading etc. but after a long day at work and an hour and a half commute in public transport (in my city is ass) in rush hour and i just had the CRAVE for cheap dopamine. when I got home I really tried to do something else, watch Netflix cause I didn't had the energy to even read but I just couldn't, at that moment I truly felt like an addict and spent next 2 hours hopping in my tablet between tiktok, twitter and Instagram. but man it felt great. like I could just feel my brain relax after such a long day. what do you do after work that gives you this level of relaxation?

Though I (31F) have done this before. I’ve done it time and time again and I always end up back on it. I don’t know why. I’m a writer but I haven’t written in years. I have given 10 years of my life to Instagram, hours of scrolling, and I have ever gotten out of it is mental illness and FOMO. No one ever liked my posts, but they would view my stories. I don’t care about the algorithm. It should’ve never bothered me, but it did. I’m so tired of it. It was a true addiction.
I do still have Facebook and would like to get off that, as well. But I’d like to download pictures first. I notice that I never spend as much time on Facebook, naturally because how much AI I see. So it’s progressed this way. But I will inevitably delete that, as well.
But my SIL has taken down all public photos of my nephew from her profile due to where AI is going with… child 🌽. First I thought she was being over the top, but then I noticed how much it’s prevalent and apparently ruled as ok?
This technological age is happening too fast and furious and I’m so sick of it. I want to get back into writing again.
Give me your success stories!

I've been thinking about deleting my social media accounts completely rather than just uninstalling the apps.
I've gotten better at avoiding doomscrolling and comparing myself to others over the last two months, but I still hate the feeling of people having access to my life. I also find myself checking up on people I dislike or people who have hurt me, and I want to stop giving them that space in my head.
I have around 500 followers on Instagram, but I don't have many friends anyway and generally keep my life private. If I removed everyone I didn't genuinely want seeing my life, I'd probably have around 100 followers left. The only reason I'd keep Instagram is for people I'm civil with, people at my gym or work, and mutuals I don't really know personally.
At that point, I question what the point of Instagram even is.
Has anyone deleted their accounts completely? Did you regret it, or were you happier without social media?

Hey all,
I love the idea of digital minimalism. I haven’t used social media for the past five years, and my mental health has been so much better. I used to feel that my stories and updates sometimes made others jealous, and I started wondering why I was sharing my personal life with people who were just random acquaintances.
Now, I use WhatsApp to share updates with my close family and friends (around 5–10 people), and I’m happy with that choice.
However, whenever people ask if I’m on social media so they can connect with me, I tell them I’m not, but they can always call, message, or meet me in person. Their surprised reactions bother me. I don’t mind being different, but I don’t understand why people react as if staying off social media is such a strange or bad decision, especially when so many people are now choosing to take a break from it because of the negativity.
I’m also not on LinkedIn because I work in healthcare, where qualified professionals are in high demand. I don’t feel the need to promote myself online to find job opportunities.
Honestly, I’m tired of explaining my choices to people. I’m happy with my decision, and I don’t feel like I’m missing out.
I’d love to hear your thoughts. How do you deal with people who seem surprised or judgmental when you tell them you’re not on social media?

I've long ago dumbed down my smartphone and only use it as a phone for calls and texts. That's the easy part. But I still have a laptop that often consumes a huge chunk of my free time, and it's never time I feel good about having spent. I always feel worse after several hours on the laptop. News, porn, unnecessary research. I feel much better on the days I stay offline. I'd like to cancel my home Internet, but my wife won't let me.
I'd like to ditch the laptop and use the library once a week to check email and pay bills. I want all the devices out of my life.
Has anyone succeeded in removing all Internet-connected screen-based devices from their lives? What's that like and how did you succeed in doing it? (Maybe you have and will never see this post, congratulations!)

Cosa faccio? Mi consigliate qualche altra app?

It's my first time posting this, and I not used to make this type of posts (more when I am in a long break and making big things as art and writing), I just hope this fits the sub.
Now into the question, I am meaning this since I am going slowly away from the doomscrolling I had in social media and the consequences of the toxicity in there (more when that was the reason I got one of my worst I ever had in my life, ironic I say this knowing I am posting this here). Thing is, most of the times I use my phone to make art, listen to music, play games, learn how to do art, and write as I already said, and is the only thing left as I am trying to cope with myself and more.
I don't know if, after I publish my stories and the art for my characters, i wikk use my phone just to listen to music, maybe playing games and nothing more, more when I am not used to do that.. That sounds like a good idea? I hope it is since I need to heal slowly and amend all the mental damage I got from the internet and the toxicity behind it.
That's all I wanted to ask here, sorry if my words are sounding weirdly here, I am not used to talk about this topic nor make a post about it when it's very late as I am writing, but, again, I hope I am making a kind decision here, just for myself. Good luck until then.

I want to make the switch from a smart phone to at least something with a paper white screen and less unnecessary bs on it but I have a lot of doctor’s appointments and Telehealth has become essential. I try to do as much as I can in person but I have transportation issues due to my vision and seizure disorders.
I would use my laptop for Telehealth appointments but I don’t live in a house where I can always do my appointments inside, so I have to find somewhere outside away from WiFi access that affords me more silence and privacy. I won’t be able to move anytime soon. Sometimes my schedule is so tight I have to have Telehealth appointments in random parking lots.
I really would like a paper white phone that can handle that but I’m not sure if there is, I would need a front facing camera & a microphone.
If there isn’t anything paper white that can do, are there other minimalist phones with the ability to do Telehealth?

I'm keeping this story as short as I can. I started over-using screens in my opinion at age 19. It started as a symptom of anxiety and depression. I was in college at the time, and rather than be social, I spent hours and hours on Netflix, on my phone, and scrolling Youtube endlessly. That habit continued throughout my 4 years of college and essentially post graduation since I was stuck in my hometown with little resources for getting out of the house on my own.
Now I'm a bit older and have worked through the anxiety that used to hold me back. However, I am finding that no matter what I try and do to be productive as an adult, whether it's working my day job, or it's following my passion for music producing and creativity, that I am still stuck using computers almost 24/7 for my personal downtime. I have tried to limit this by playing real instruments more often, and by going on walks/excercising more often, and admittedly those do help. But below the surface, I think I'm still accruing more screen time than is healthy and normal for a person to have. Also, it hurts to look at screens.
Physically, I can no longer go to the Movies (or if I do, it's a calculated decision to endure a bit of pain in my skull because the screen is so bright), and I completely cut out using Television from my life completely. Which kiind of sucks because I grew up gaming, and in a perfect world, I would like to incorporate gaming into my life in a more healthy way. But even that I'm afraid is not possible for me. Because after 30 minutes of looking at a TV screen, my symptoms spike to the highest level of discomfort: watery eyes, sharp pain in my head, feeling like my eyes are on fire... almost instantly when using TV's for longer than 5 minutes.
Has anyone ever dealt with this? If so, what is the solution to a nervous system that has been fried from screen addiction for decades? how do incorporate screens into my life and be able to watch tv / game again without going on a literal screen detox for like 6 months? That is how severe it feels to me.
