Social Media Tik tok

This morning, a guy on TikTok posted a video urging beautiful girls to post whatever they wanted on social media, claiming that by doing so, they would become famous and rich and would never have to work again...

Social Media My social media addiction is ruining my attention span and grades

Today I have skipped 2 classes, because I wanted to scroll on Tiktok and soon this will most likely affect my grades. I also cannot study because of my short attention span. How to get rid of this?

Social Media curiousity

I’m curious, are the people who are active on social media mostly those who don’t particularly enjoy the real world? If not, what drives you to use social media?

For me, the initial reason for using social media was to stay informed about what’s happening around me, things that fall outside my immediate field of vision. at least, that's how i see it at the moment

Technology Exactly 3 months with my motorazr V3

I love this phone, will always love it, the black color is absolutely adorbs. I even hung a pendant onto it like a few weeks ago. Coverage is completely covered, because Croatia here has more 2G than 5G, or maybe even 4G. Seriously, i have all bars of network + GPRS. Anyways, it is doing a good job, and i don't think of going back to modern glass slabs ever. This is so great. And no this is not some phone for weekends, but rather my full-time daily phone with no aside smartphone

Help Screenzen:migliori app anti-social?

Cosa faccio? Mi consigliate qualche altra app?

Social Media Just a heads up - my Reddit feed is now way more toxic than my Facebook feed

I know this is a problem of my own making, and I know that I’m the one feeding the algorithm, but I thought I’d post this just in case there are other people slipping into a similar position without reasoning

My Facebook is around 25% bands, 25% recipes, 25% parenting tips and 25% everything else (mostly ads to be honest)

My Reddit feed is just full of politics and news. I’m posting this as I’ve finally had enough and am going get rid of it all. It’s unfortunate there isn’t a balanced single subreddit to get news in my country from but I’ve somehow ended up with 4 different subs regularly on my feed, and another has now started popping up too. Going to unfollow all of them, but getting dangerously close to just deleting the app entirely. Stay vigilant guys 🫡

Help Dear Moderators,

Can we please get a megathread for screen time screenshots and advice? This sub is constantly flooded with the exact same posts: 'I need help' or 'I use social media too much, how do I stop?' Honestly, some of them don't even feel genuine .... it's like they're just farming attention (which is pretty ironic).

If we had one collective thread for this, everyone would win. People looking for help could easily scroll through past advice, and the sub would actually look cleaner and... well, a bit more minimal. Any chance we could make this happen?

Help how to unwind after work

I have no social media in my phone (only reddit which i use like 10 min a day) im good the days i dont have to go to work and weekends, just Netflix, creative projects, reading etc. but after a long day at work and an hour and a half commute in public transport (in my city is ass) in rush hour and i just had the CRAVE for cheap dopamine. when I got home I really tried to do something else, watch Netflix cause I didn't had the energy to even read but I just couldn't, at that moment I truly felt like an addict and spent next 2 hours hopping in my tablet between tiktok, twitter and Instagram. but man it felt great. like I could just feel my brain relax after such a long day. what do you do after work that gives you this level of relaxation?

Dumbphones My smartphone was pickpocketed during the weekend, and I decided to turn a shocker into a chess play

Post image
37 Upvotes

Was out with some friends to a big event and ended up getting too drunk. Noticed late in the night that my phone was gone and nowhere to be found. During the few days where I was hopeful that someone would send me a text with good news, I was forced to go without a smartphone. And man, it was like I had gone back in time to when I was a kid.

I woke up full of energy. I had that feeling that just makes you want to get out of bed and start exploring again. That type of curiosity and ambition that you just sense in children. I couldn't believe the difference not staring at a screen right before bed and right after waking up did. And there are some other things that are just better as well. I've seen others say these here before, and they were 100% right. Just a simple meal or a sitting down without a phone is game-changing. I can properly appreciate the food in front of me. I just seem to get more pleasure from simple everyday things.

So I decided to go ahead and buy a dumb-phone. At least just to use for a month to see how I manage without a smartphone. If the cons of not having a smartphone are too much to deal with (which I honestly doubt), then I will have to make another decision. But for now, I'm loving this new life already.

Social Media I deleted Instagram

Though I (31F) have done this before. I’ve done it time and time again and I always end up back on it. I don’t know why. I’m a writer but I haven’t written in years. I have given 10 years of my life to Instagram, hours of scrolling, and I have ever gotten out of it is mental illness and FOMO. No one ever liked my posts, but they would view my stories. I don’t care about the algorithm. It should’ve never bothered me, but it did. I’m so tired of it. It was a true addiction.

I do still have Facebook and would like to get off that, as well. But I’d like to download pictures first. I notice that I never spend as much time on Facebook, naturally because how much AI I see. So it’s progressed this way. But I will inevitably delete that, as well.

But my SIL has taken down all public photos of my nephew from her profile due to where AI is going with… child 🌽. First I thought she was being over the top, but then I noticed how much it’s prevalent and apparently ruled as ok?

This technological age is happening too fast and furious and I’m so sick of it. I want to get back into writing again.

Give me your success stories!

Technology Is there a paper white phone that can do Telehealth?

I want to make the switch from a smart phone to at least something with a paper white screen and less unnecessary bs on it but I have a lot of doctor’s appointments and Telehealth has become essential. I try to do as much as I can in person but I have transportation issues due to my vision and seizure disorders.

I would use my laptop for Telehealth appointments but I don’t live in a house where I can always do my appointments inside, so I have to find somewhere outside away from WiFi access that affords me more silence and privacy. I won’t be able to move anytime soon. Sometimes my schedule is so tight I have to have Telehealth appointments in random parking lots.

I really would like a paper white phone that can handle that but I’m not sure if there is, I would need a front facing camera & a microphone.

If there isn’t anything paper white that can do, are there other minimalist phones with the ability to do Telehealth?

Social Media I keep coming back to reddit. How can I leave for good?

I appreciate any recommendations or help that anyone can provide

I have a super addictive personality. I have managed to delete the rest of social media but I just keep coming back time and time again to reddit

I think I will use it to meet and talk to people with similar interest and have useful information but I end up just scrolling endlessly.

I don’t know if I can do without it even though realistically I should be able to

Thanks for any comments/advice anyone can provide

Social Media I see analogue tech becoming popular.

I honestly think humans will pick and revive analogue tech, simply to escape digital obesity and brain rot.

Analogue tech has the advantage is tactile, and our brains need the tactile sensation of moving gears and pressing buttons and hearing clicks.

Digital doesn't provide such tactile feedback.

Also, analogue tech like polaroids will be needed to proof authenticity, since all digital will likely be not good enough to be valid evidence, by example in courts.

I see analogue video and polaroid photos to be more valuable simply because is much harder to fake them with AI.

Local newspapers will appear again simply because people will get sick of AI slop news.

Even if I am a bit optmistic, I see a revival of low tech and analogue stuff as a refuge of AI mass produced slop.

Help Has anyone succeeded in removing all Internet-connected screen-based devices from their home?

I've long ago dumbed down my smartphone and only use it as a phone for calls and texts. That's the easy part. But I still have a laptop that often consumes a huge chunk of my free time, and it's never time I feel good about having spent. I always feel worse after several hours on the laptop. News, porn, unnecessary research. I feel much better on the days I stay offline. I'd like to cancel my home Internet, but my wife won't let me.

I'd like to ditch the laptop and use the library once a week to check email and pay bills. I want all the devices out of my life.

Has anyone succeeded in removing all Internet-connected screen-based devices from their lives? What's that like and how did you succeed in doing it? (Maybe you have and will never see this post, congratulations!)
