Title: Delivery drivers, should we wear body cameras for our own protection? Let's discuss and find a solution.
Hello everyone,
I’d like to open a discussion with fellow delivery drivers about something I’ve been thinking about for a while: Would wearing a GoPro or a body camera help protect us while working?
As delivery drivers, we work hard every day. We deal with customers, restaurants, traffic, tight deadlines, and sometimes uncomfortable or unfair situations. Most of us are simply trying to do our jobs, earn a living, and deliver orders correctly. However, I worry about what happens when something goes wrong and we have no evidence to support our side of the story.
For example:
What if a customer reports that their order was never delivered, even though we delivered it correctly?
What if a customer makes a false accusation or a disagreement occurs during a delivery?
What if Deliveroo, Uber Eats, or another delivery platform receives a complaint, and we have no evidence to defend ourselves?
Could video footage help us prove what happened and protect our accounts from unfair complaints or deactivation?
I’ve been considering buying a GoPro or a dedicated body camera to record my deliveries for my own protection. I would respect people’s privacy, follow applicable data protection rules, keep recordings secure, and never post footage online or on social media. If an incident occurred, I would only want to submit relevant footage through the platform’s official support channels, where appropriate.
However, I also have concerns. What if a customer asks why I’m recording them? What if a restaurant refuses to let me enter or collect an order because I’m wearing a camera? Could recording create more problems than it solves? And would the delivery platforms actually accept footage as evidence?
I don’t want this discussion to be only about buying a camera. I want us, as delivery drivers, to discuss the problem and find a practical solution together.
We work hard, and we deserve to be treated fairly. We should have a reasonable way to protect ourselves when a complaint is made, especially when our income and delivery accounts could be affected.
I’d love to hear your thoughts:
Do you think body cameras are a good idea for delivery drivers?
Has anyone used a GoPro or body camera while delivering? What was your experience?
Have you ever faced a false non-delivery claim or an unfair complaint? How did you handle it?
Would Deliveroo or Uber Eats accept video evidence to help resolve a dispute?
What alternative solutions could protect drivers while respecting customers’ privacy and restaurants’ rules?
Please share your honest opinions and experiences, whether positive or negative. If there is a better solution than wearing a camera, let’s discuss it.
We are all working hard to earn an honest living. Let's share our experiences, support one another, and find a fair solution that protects both delivery drivers and customers.
Thank you, everyone. Stay safe out there!
