Hi everyone!
I'm Vítor Rua, a Portuguese experimental musician and composer, and I've been fascinated by the SOMA ENIGMA and its unusual approach to sound creation.
I love SOMA's philosophy of leaving certain aspects of their instruments open to discovery. However, I'm particularly curious about a few practical possibilities, and I thought this might be the perfect place to exchange experiences with other ENIGMA users.
Has anyone managed to figure out:
- How to create arpeggios or repeating melodic sequences?
- Whether it's possible to record and repeat gestures or musical phrases, almost like a looper?
- What each of the six touch controls actually does to the sound or synthesis algorithms?
- Whether particular combinations of these controls produce recognisable effects, rhythmic patterns, or generative sequences?
I'm especially interested in hearing from people who have experimented extensively with the instrument.
If you've discovered any interesting combinations, techniques, or hidden behaviours, I'd love to hear about them. Even approximate descriptions, photos, or short videos would be incredibly helpful.
I'm also putting together a personal exploration guide to the ENIGMA, combining technical information with experimental and compositional approaches.
I understand that mystery is part of the instrument's beauty. But perhaps sharing our discoveries could make that mystery even more musically rewarding.
Thank you in advance!
