Career query Is google data analyst course of cursera still worth ? im planning a career shift

Is google data analyst course of cursera still worth ? im planning a career shift from business project management industries to tech industries

Hi everyone!

I'm planning to transition from a business/project management-related career into the tech industry, and I'm considering taking the Google Data Analytics Professional Certificate on Coursera as my starting point.

My current background is in business operations and project management, but I'd like to develop more technical skills and eventually move into a tech-related role. I'm particularly interested in learning data analytics and exploring opportunities where I can combine my existing business knowledge with technical skills.

However, with how quickly the tech industry is evolving, the rise of AI tools, and the number of people pursuing entry-level tech jobs, I'm wondering whether this certificate is still worth the time in 2026.

Tips & Resources hands on workshop: what has to sit around an AI analyst so it stops making things up, Oct 31

hey everyone, sharing this because a lot of us are being asked to put an AI assistant on top of our data, and the hard part is getting answers you can rely on.

packt publishing is running a hands on workshop on Oct 31 on building an AI data analyst you can actually trust, led by bruno goncalves. it focuses on the engineering around the model, not the prompt.

what gets covered:

  • execution budgets, timeouts and retry limits, so a run can’t loop or burn spend
  • structured traces, so you can see afterwards what a run actually did
  • permissioned access to tools and data, so risky calls get blocked
  • breaking tools on purpose in a fault injected test suite, and checking the agent stops safely

4 hours, online, Sat Oct 31, 9:30 AM to 1:30 PM ET. you can run everything on a laptop with a mock model, no GPU or API key.

Find Full details and the agenda here

happy to answer any questions about what gets covered

Career query Transitioning into a new role Regarding Power Bi

Hello everyone, 26M here, and I am starting a new position this Monday. The new role is a 6-month contract-to-hire for a Power BI ticket help desk position, assisting the company with power bi related stuff along with integration of Microsoft Fabric. I am confident in my Power BI skills but have not had much training; everything was self-taught, and I’m kinda nervous because I want to keep this job. Any advice for how to transition into a position like this or how to make sure I maintain a successful term?

Career query Can I pivot from Project Management to Data Analytics and get remote jobs?

Title: Can I pivot from Project Management to Data Analytics and get remote jobs?

I have a Bachelor’s degree in Project Management and experience in administration and project-related operations. In my previous role, I used Excel for data analysis and visualisation, which sparked my interest in data analytics.

I’ve started teaching myself data analytics through YouTube and would appreciate advice on the following:

  • Would combining my degree with skills in Excel, SQL, Power BI, and Python be a good career move?
  • After learning through YouTube, would you recommend getting a data analytics certificate? If so, which certifications would be worth pursuing?
  • How realistic is it to secure international remote data analyst jobs while living in Botswana, especially as a beginner?

I’d appreciate honest advice from those in the field. Thanks!

Hi everyone, I need help with a university data analysis project.
A bit about me, I am a 2nd semester student in a German uni, I never really used excel before and so I am pretty new to it.

I have to do empirical analysis, and EDA as well as basic statistical calculations. Which I have never done before.

Reach out if you know these things and can nudge me a little.
Thanks

(I will share the instructions document that our prof provided us with)

Other Story Time, I'm hitting another block

Hallo,

first of all, you guys must excuse my English (not my mother tongue).

second, this is going to be a bit long so buckle up.

third, sorry of i overshared, i just felt like i need to get things out of my chest.

i don't remember myself having a good time in life and living tbh, all my life was spent perusing the next thing to be done, to secure a job, a respected life to be lived, a happy family and just to be grateful for the things i have, even when i'm with my friends, or having fun i keep thinking nonstop about things and how i need to do and what to be done.

i'm 26M, live in a third world country in northern Africa, that happens to speak three languages fluently, Arabic, French and English, and a C1 certificate in German (conversational)

i graduated from a high national college in Actuarial finance and statistics, so we studied about data, and all about finance and how to treat data and mathematics as well, i have a masters and an engineering degree in the field.

so after graduation, i busted my ass off to find a job, but nothing was worth it, there's no point in working a job that gives you a salary to barely live where u just end up with debt and more financial problems, so it was Covid, the market was bad, i was like fuck it, freelancing it is.

i busted my ass, learned graphic design, and after 6 months of reaching out and creating portfolios and doing my best, I got my first client, after a year i had more clients, after 2/3 years i was doing good, i would say 1300 euros per month was my income, while living in a third world country, trust me that was really good, but then AI hit, all clients were gone, graphic design became shitty so i said fuck it, it's time to stop and focus on another thing.

i switched my focus on E-commerce, where i used my graphic design skills in creating landing pages, i learned how to run ads, html/css/java, WordPress how to manipulate and link WordPress, different type of ads, different types of result analysis, because we need to analyze our ads and the results for us to optimize the campaign even better, from creating scripts, to editing, to banners, to ads, to optimization, i did them all, but fuck it, after 2 years of ups and downs, there was so many difficult things to handle, which led the business to failure, so me and my team shut everything down, and fuck, i need to get back to ground 0.

so now, i was like thinking about changing the country, because out of my local (had to be local due to my country unfortunately ) e-commerce business, i learned that most of my issues was the country that i'm living in, so i was like Germany, sounds like a good country, hard language wise, but promising, my women is a german teacher, so she can help me and the acceptation rate in Germany is really high tbh, so that's what i did.

i was mainly changing the country to get a job in my field of studies (statistics and data), that was the plan.

next target it is, i learned German, but the language is just impossible to master dude, i won't be able to find a job this way, so i picked to do fsj (that's voluntary work in the medical field for a small paycheck)
i was like fuck it, if that gets me to Germany and one step closer to my goal, i would do it

So it worked YAAY (it's really hard to get out of a third world country, it's really an achievement), when i got there to Germany, i was working as a volunteer for 8h, and then get back home to study German, i did that for a year, i didn't even tour Germany, i kept focusing on my goal, i got my B2 German certificate, my language got better, okay thank god, the plan till now is working.

but B2 isn't enough to secure a job in data (my Field of studies in college), i need more. So i after my voluntary work, i did Ausbildung as a male nurse, it's a one year study to become like a nurse helper or something, i'm using it only to secure more stay in Germany to get better in the language, guess what, i DIIIIIID, i got my C1 certificate in German, and i'm speaking better than i ever did.

okay, i'm in Germany, i reached a good level of German, i have a certificate that states it, i have a masters degree that says that i'm suitable to work in such field, at the same time i'm doing ausbildung (one year nursing training), so my stay in germany and a job after the one year training is secured (in care), what's next, i'm close, all the foundation is built, but FUCK!!

i need to learn the tools that i need to work with obviously, so yeah
i learned and i'm still LEARNING:

-excel (advanced)
-powerbi
-SQL
-python ( pandas - matplotlib - seaborn )

i'm focusing on problem solving, more than using the tools themselves because that's what matters, solving real life issues and finding solutions.

SO YEAH, never really had it easy, but what i know is, whenever i overcome something and i achieve it, that gives me more power and motivation to achieve the next thing i want, but we both know that it's sometimes hard, and we can suffer from letdowns, setbacks, self doubt and just feelings worned out, but we need to keep going, because it's only a matter of time and i'll get it, and reach my goal, well out of past experiences ofc.

now after getting closer to data analysis, after building and sacrificing the time and energy and my mental health to reach where i am today, "AI" IS FUCKING THIS FIELD AS WELL

so my question is, should i keep going, or i just Shift my my focus somewhere else with the current things that i learned right now.

FACTS AND SUMMARY:

- in Germany, if u don't know German, and u can't speak the language u can forget having a a decent job, English roles are there, but hella of a competition.

-now i have in Germany 2 years of experience in the care field, i think that can help me in data roles.

Thank you for reading :)

General hitting a wall with signed Metabase iframes for our customer-facing SaaS dashboards...

so what teams move to when tenant permissions Snowflake costs get messy? for context, about 18 months ago, we shipped customer-facing analytics inside our B2B platform using signed Metabase iframes pointing at a Snowflake warehouse, interestingly enough, It was fast to build, cost almost nothing in engineering hours, and worked well while we had under 100 accounts

so now, roughly 900 tenant organizations &the setupf is creaking under three specific problems:

  1. granular role / column permissions. Passing a locked tenant_id parameter in an iframe token works for isolating Account A from Account B. It stops working cleanly when an enterprise customer has three internal tiers: executive admins who see contract values and margins, regional managers who can only see operational volumes for their own business unit, and frontline staff who should see masked cost fields. also maintaining separate Metabase questions and dashboard copies for every tier is turning into a maintenance trap

  2. Concurrency spikes and warehouse wake-ups. Between 8:00 AM and 9:30 AM EST, hundreds of client managers log in and filter their activity tables. and every time someone changes a date range or filters on a custom status, the query misses simple result caching. so Snowflake stays awake on standard warehouses running repetitive GROUP BY and COUNT(DISTINCT) queries over 50 million rows of event data, our compute bill jumped 40% last quarter purely from dashboard refreshes

  3. would notice the demand for customizable reports... enterprise buyers want dark-mode styling that matches the rest of our application, and several accounts are asking for the ability to pick their own dimensions, save custom slices, or export raw summaries without filing a ticket with our support team

our team is now evaluating 3 paths to replace or refactor this setup:

-maybe, move to an enterprise embedded BI platform (evaluating tools like Sigma Embedded, Omni, or ThoughtSpot) so customers get spreadsheet or workbook exploration without our engineering team writing custom chart code.
- Put a headless semantic layer and caching layer in front of our warehouse (looking at Cube Core / Cube, or Apache Superset with custom caching) and render components natively using our own design system while keeping a single metric definition.
- Build a custom pipeline with dbt rollups in DuckDB or ClickHouse and expose it through our existing backend API.

would like to ask you teams running customer-facing analytics in a multi-tenant B2B app:

- if you migrated away from embedded Metabase or Superset iframes, what did you land on, and what was the migration overhead for existing metric logic?
- also how are you applying row-level and column-level security across tenant roles without causing your cache hit rate to collapse?
- did you choose to build custom charts with a headless API, or did you stay with iframes and vendor workbooks?

we are setting up a two-week sandbox test against an anonymized slice of our Snowflake telemetry dataset (50 million rows) to measure query latency + tenant isolation, and also caching behavior across these options. I will share the benchmark matrix and cost findings once we finish the runs

Career query Data Analyst with 2.5 YOE, struggling at current company. Should I switch to CSM role?

Hi everyone,

I have around 2.5 years of experience. I worked as a Business Analyst at a startup for 2 years before switching to a Data Analyst role at a reputed media company in May 2026. My current fixed CTC is ₹10.5 LPA.

I handle end-to-end analytics for a few products, including reporting, product analytics, growth, and tracking. The work itself is fine, but the workload has become extremely difficult to manage.

I commute from Delhi to Noida, which takes around 2 hours each way. I leave home around 9 AM and usually return around 9 PM. Most days, I end up working overtime at home, and sometimes even on weekends, since I'm the primary person responsible for analytics for my products.

I recently had a discussion with my manager, who said they weren't happy with my performance. The company is also known for frequent layoffs, with another round expected in October, so I'm worried about my job security.

Honestly, my personal life has taken a hit since joining. I barely get time for myself or my family, and I haven't been able to focus on upskilling or preparing for CAT, which I plan to take this year.

I've been actively looking for jobs and have applied to 800+ positions, but the response has been disappointing.

Currently, I have a few options:

  1. Customer Success Manager at a cybersecurity startup

I've received an offer of ₹13.5 LPA for a fully remote role. The salary and remote setup are attractive, especially considering my current work-life balance.

However, I'm confused about switching from analytics to Customer Success. My long-term goal is to move towards Product Management, and I'm wondering whether this switch could help me get there or make it harder to return to analytics later.

  1. Senior Digital Analyst interview at a fintech company

I have a technical round coming up for a hybrid Senior Digital Analyst role. This would allow me to continue in analytics, which seems more aligned with my long-term goals.

However, HR mentioned that since I've been at my current company for only around 4.5 months, they might only match my current salary of ₹10.5 LPA.

Is it still possible to negotiate a 15–25% hike in this situation, or does switching jobs so soon weaken my bargaining power significantly?

  1. Other opportunities

Most of the other opportunities I've come across are at small startups, contractual positions, or companies with 1–2 year bonds. Given my current situation, I'm hesitant to take on that kind of risk.

I'm also considering an MBA, so I don't want to make a decision that negatively affects my long-term career.

My probation ends in November, and my notice period during probation is 15 days. Given the feedback from my manager and the possibility of layoffs, I'm worried about what might happen next.

I'm confused about a few things:

  • Should I accept the remote CSM offer or continue looking for analytics roles?
  • Would moving to Customer Success help me transition into Product Management in the future?
  • Is leaving a reputed company within 5 months for a startup a bad move for my CV?
  • How to negotiate for salary in my situation given i am switching soo soon?
  • Should I prioritize CAT preparation over staying at my current company?

I'm honestly feeling quite stuck. I don't want to make a decision purely out of fear or exhaustion, but my current situation doesn't feel sustainable either.

Would really appreciate some honest advice, especially from people who've switched domains or faced a similar situation. What would you do in my position?

Data related query How can I transition from MIS Executive to Data Analyst?

Hi everyone, I’m a BCA graduate (67%). I worked in a BPO/call centre for around 9 months, then took a one-year career gap. I started working as an MIS Executive on March 22, 2026, and I’m still working there.

I have basic knowledge of Excel, SQL, Python, and Power BI, and I want to transition into a Data Analyst role, preferably in an MNC.

What should I focus on next? Should I complete one year in MIS first, improve my skills and projects, or start applying for Data Analyst jobs now?

I would appreciate honest, practical advice from people who have made a similar transition. Thanks!

Tips & Resources Opening 10 more beta spots for beginners learning SQL for data analysis

Hi everyone! A while ago I posted here looking for a few people to test a new platform for learning SQL through real data-analysis cases. Thanks to everyone who showed interest and shared feedback.

We’re opening another small round for up to 10 more testers. It’s especially for people who are new to SQL or have only just started—you don’t need any experience to take part.

Requesting access puts you on the waitlist; it doesn’t guarantee an immediate spot. If selected for this round, you’ll receive an invitation by email and get 30 days of free access, with no card required. Everyone else will remain on the waitlist for a future round. If you’ve already signed up, there’s no need to do it again.

What we’re looking for most is honest feedback: what helps, what’s confusing, and what you wish worked differently. Thanks!

General What’s one data analysis skill you wish you’d learned earlier?

There are so many tools and techniques in data analysis that it’s easy to spend time learning things without knowing which ones actually matter in practice.

For those who have been working with data for a while, what skill made the biggest difference for you? Was it SQL, Python, statistics, data visualization, or something less obvious, such as asking better questions before analyzing a dataset?

Curious what you’d recommend focusing on if you were starting again today.

Career query How do I get back into workforce after 4 years career break?

Location: southern USA.
I took a career break 4 years ago because of some health issues in family. Now thankfully everything is back to normal and I’m actively looking for jobs.
Throughout my career I’ve kept my knowledge sharp and learned new skills. Even got a few certifications to stay relevant to my field.
I’ve been looking for work for a the past 6 months with no luck. I lowered my desired annual salary by 10-15k. Which didn’t make much difference.
At this point Im considering working at a minimum wage/ internship r just to get my foot in the door. I genuinely miss working and want to get back into my field.
For those who have rejoined the work force after extended career breaks, how did you do it? What are the strategies that worked for you? I’d greatly appreciate any advice.

Career query 20M in London considering a career change into real estate data analytics.

Hi everyone,

I’m 20M based in London and looking for advice from people working in data analytics, particularly in real estate.

I’ve worked full-time in my dad’s restaurant since finishing school, so I don’t have a degree or previous IT experience. However, I’ve gained valuable business experience, and with my family looking to sell the restaurant, I’m starting to think seriously about my long-term career.

I’ve recently become interested in data analytics, especially property. I also own a property that my dad is selling to me, so real estate is something I’m genuinely interested in beyond just a career.

My plan is to finish my online courses, learn tools such as SQL, Excel, Power BI and Python, and build projects using property data, potentially including data from the restaurant.

Long-term, I’d love to use these skills to make better property investment decisions myself and potentially explore deal sourcing for investors once I’ve gained enough experience. However, my immediate goal is simply to break into the industry and become a competent data analyst.

My main questions are:
- How realistic is it to land a junior data analyst role in London without a degree or IT experience?
- Would you recommend applying directly for entry-level jobs, pursuing an apprenticeship, or taking another route?
- Is real estate a good industry to specialise in from the beginning, or would I be better off gaining general experience first?
- If you were in my position, would you go for it?

I’m prepared to put in the work and understand it won’t happen overnight. I’d really appreciate honest advice, especially from anyone who has taken a similar route.

Thanks!

Tips & Resources Help with next steps for someone pivoting into Data Analytics

Thumbnail

I completed a BS in Data Analytics last December, and have been applying to "entry-level" roles since January. I don't have any data analytics work history, but I do have prior roles in environmental science, regulation, and hospital clinical laboratory that required analytical thinking and data collection. Despite my best efforts, I've gotten 0 callbacks. Trying to figure out what my best next steps are to make myself more competitive, including considering the following:

  • Get a MS in Data Science/Analysis
  • Quit my current dead-end job and work on certifications and portfolio projects
  • Get a basic IT support job at a large company and try to work my way into a data-oriented role

How do people get into this field? I know I'm missing work experience, but I can't even get a callback for junior positions despite being qualified. I've included an anonymized resume that is the base resume I've been using. What are the best next steps? Thanks!

Career query Anyone made a transition from data analyst to data engineer

I have been curious on data engineering for some time now. But wonder how one moves to that position? Any insight would help!
