I'm a bit late to this (sorry), but just wanted to make it be known that it's out!

Please do your due dilligence in reading all of the instructions and the 'About' section, and most of all - enjoy as we have with so many other titles that she's released this mod for!

OFFICIAL Sub Discussion New Rules

Subject to discussion before implementation

1) First and foremost, ban all of the repetitive victim posting

"Why is Dark Souls 2 so hated?" just devolves into the same thing - everyone commenting in agreement and performative victimizing. It's a video game, not everyone is going to like exactly what you like. There's no real discussion to be had there, and we seemingly have them here more than the other main subreddits. It's just becoming tiring.

2) Ban engagement-bait posts

The best example of this is someone posting a random, unrelated screenshot or artwork of Dark Souls 2 with the title of "What's your favorite sword in the game?" - then proceeding to not at all join in the discussion. It just serves to farm karma while putting in zero effort, not crediting the artist they took the art from, and not participating in their own thread. If you want to discuss something, make a text post and actually discuss.

3) Ban trouble makers at the mods' discretion

This is a spicy one because it can easily be mishandled by the wrong mod team. We all know Reddit mods are pretty garbage overall, but I'd like to think I'm a bit different since I'm here for Souls and couldn't give a shit less about seeming professional or having any semblance of "power" (it's Reddit, lmao).

This essentially means if you're posting within the guidelines (i.e - posting about Dark Souls 2) but you're making your post to simply stir shit, rile people up constantly, and put down others... then you should expect a ban.

I'm obviously not going to name names, but we all know a couple of usernames who, whenever there's random drama, we know they're going to be involved. These are the users I'm talking about

EDIT (this includes the "Slander posts" that you guys keep commenting about, but I will also explicitly say that yes, this does include the lame "Ds3 is grayslop hurr hurr" posts that just seek to rile people up for no reason)

Finally, a question to you all: How do we make this subreddit better?

That's it, that's the most important thing in this entire post. The game has been released for 12 years and the subreddit has kind of devolved into the same thing for the last decade at this point. Are there any ideas you all have, rules I should change, things I can do differently to make this place more enjoyable and less of the same, repetitive drivel?

Very tall and skinny knight, the first time I saw this boss it looked pretty alien for me. The way it throws his shield like a frisbee completely caught me off guard.
I think their design is nice and unique n.n

Fan Art Looking Glass Knight — Archival Technical Dossier

Just finished a technical archival poster for the Looking Glass Knight from Dark Souls II.

Made two versions to reflect his boss fight atmosphere:

Storm / Inverted Edition — High contrast, ink-splattered, and inverted to capture the heavy rain and lightning at King's Pass.

Clean Archival Edition — Minimalist layout focusing on exact armor measurements, shield dimensions, and technical callouts.

Let me know what you think!

Been putting this off for a while now but I finally decided to hunker down and finish the plat. While I was at it, I went and got the no death no bonfire rings as well. Dark Souls Trilogy complete!

Discussion I don't think I've ever hated an area this much !

Post image

I'm playing vanilla DS2, and this area is giving me a ridiculously hard time, especially as a sword player. What makes it so difficult isn't just the spellcasters, but also the lizardmen that rush in and attack you while you're trying to deal with the spellcasters, yeah they are a one-shot with my UGS, but good luck landing that hit while dodging all those damn spells 💀

I know some of it is on me, but I've also died quite a few times because the edges of the land are so hard to notice, and you can suddenly find yourself falling to your death lol

Discussion The 1-frame delayed hurtbox is a nothing-burger

Post image
55 Upvotes

Screenshot is the latest update from LordRadai, the creator of the debug menu.

The hurtbox of your character is 1 frame behind your character model - but so is the hitbox of almost every attack.

It cancels out. It's not a problem.

Imagine during each frame we repeat the following loop:

  • Case A
  1. Draw hurtbox and hitbox

  2. Run collision detection

  3. Update position

  4. Draw character model

The drawn hurtbox will be 1 frame behind the drawn character model, which is what we saw in Babe1Babe2's video.

But that's merely a visual issue of the debug visualization.

The enemy attack hitbox and your characters hurtbox are aligned. You aren't getting hit unfairly.

There's literally no functional difference to running the loop like:

  • Case B
  1. Update position

  2. Draw character model

  3. Draw hurtbox and hitbox

  4. Run collision detection

If the loop would work like this the debug visualization would line up with the character model, but as the steps are repeated every frame it's still an endless loop of 123412341234 in both case A and B

Video Raime vs 2 years without playing

As the title says, I haven't played in almost two years, and a couple of days ago I started a new game and I'm playing casually. Since I hadn't played in a while, I opted to use the rapier in my first game. It hit me hard, but it didn't give me any trouble.

I only used 2 mods
Blue Acolyte (for online)
Unlock fps

Guide New First playthrough

Hey guys, I started “technically” my first ever Dark souls 2 playthrough. I played this game like maybe a 7+ years ago. I wasn’t really a souls fan back then so just tried it out and left it. Hence coming back to it and see if I can finish it this time.

How is the player base right now? Is the game still active? Any initial tips or guide that I need to follow. I never really did PvP or coop in this game so I don’t know about it other. Just posting here to see if I am in the right place to get some starter tips.

Thank you.

Question Started 2 days and only have one real gripe

I'm honestly having an absolute blast in the game, only have played DS1 in the Fromsoft games and while I was a parry god in DS1, I can't parry worth a damn in DS2 but I've found I don't really need it, so no biggie. Most bosses feel pretty fair, if I die it feels like my fault completely, I've always been a take my time player and so I don't really feel like the ganks are "too much" for the most part I'm pretty good at sniping with a bow or singling out enemies. Even No man's wharf is a cakewalk when you shoot the guys hanging off the docks (they insta die) snipe the archers first, and then pull one by one, you just can't run through it like you can DS1, which personally I don't mind. I just killed Freja today and the room with all the spooders felt like a shooting gallery for my bow.

But my only gripe so far, and it's honestly probably user error, is the god damned mimic. I've only encountered one in Brightstone Cove Tseldora in the ruins. I opened it like a dumb greedy jackass and insta died, I went back and attacked from behind only for it to still grab me and insta kill me and then I went back and was gonna range it but it fell into the hole I came out of and I just said screw it and went on with my life.

I want revenge, tell me what I'm doing wrong pretty please.

Discussion Brief Review after finishing the game

I went into this game knowing that most people hate it and don't get me wrong, it's far from perfect. However, it was a very positive surprise. Yes there are certain areas that I don't enjoy but at least they feel finished and I can appreciate the vision. Also the combat possibilities got vastly imoroved. Yes, there are issues with enemy placements, hitboxes, etc. but they are all managable. Overall, I see why people don't like the game but I truly believe you should make that experience yourself and not let other people determine wheather you like it or not and don't skip it when playing the series just "because it's Dark Souls 2".

I could talk forever about things I like or don't like about the game but I don't wanna waste your time, so I just stated my conclusion.

Discussion Time to replay

Post image
52 Upvotes

I love Dark Souls II, and after finally beating the Elden Ring DLC, I've decided it's time for a replay

Any recommendations for some fun builds? I've never done a dual-wield playthrough and kind of want to experiment with powerstancing, and maybe also run it as a parry build for when it's an option

Discussion question about repair powders

I'm basically almost done with the game but wanna do the dlcs first before i finish it. But one thing I have been having issues with in this game is my weapon getting close to breaking everytime i get through an area. Its not a super big deal as i can go back to the last bonfire, but this game is not the type you can just run past enemies since they have a pretty far agro range. That being said, is there any place you can buy unlimited repair powders anywhere in the game?

Discussion Do you ever MISS an enemy?

Speaking to the fact that if you kill an enemy 12 times, they despawn:

You ever get to the point in the run-back to a boss, where you have become intimately aware of each enemy's placement and patterns, that you become...disappointed when the enemy doesn't appear? You think, "I've prepared for you, I know you, I see you," and then they're just...gone?

I've just experienced this with one of the shambling zombie hollows on the bridge to Undead Purgatory.
