Finished Craft [Mine] Made a wool version of this cat. Now I can’t say no to either face 😂

Here are the photos I worked from! 😊 I really wanted to get that sweet, slightly worried little face right.

Those blue eyes catch your attention first, but the round cheeks and tiny pink nose do so much for the expression too. With all that white fluff, I wanted to keep the shape of the face from getting lost. I like holding the wool portrait beside the photos to see how the features work together, especially from the side.

That’s my favorite part of needle felting pet portraits: getting to the point where you can recognize the particular cat in the photo. If you have a cat, you probably know that one look that gets you to put down whatever you’re doing and pay attention.

Did I get that little look right?

Question / Advice Help - Grape Headpiece

Post image
47 Upvotes

Hello!

I’m trying to craft this grape headpiece for Halloween. For the grapes, the best idea I could come up with is to mod podge purple sinamay type fabric over balloons and then pop the balloons. Thoughts?

What I’m really stuck on is how to secure this to my head for moving around and dancing. And then how to attach all the grapes and leaves. A headband doesn’t feel like it would be sturdy enough.

Any ideas and tips are much appreciated, thanks!

Question / Advice Searching for ... a thread? Idk what this classifies as

Post image

I wanted to make Charms for my friends, like these cute phone-charms but way fancier than the one in the picture. But I need something, that well... does the job of connecting the charm to the phone. And as shown in the picture, these manufactured one has this... thing.

I don't know what it's called, or where to buy it, IF you can buy it, and I don't know what to use as an alternative. Normal thread, the one for sewing is just either to thin, or the fibres are too loose. Nylon is too stiff and its a pain to try making a knot with it. And any other thing I can thin of is just not really fitting. So I hope, that either this whole construction in the circle has a name or at least this type of thread. I really don't know the words, I should type in the searchbar, like nothing more than "tear-resistant thin plastic-fibre thread".

I would be glad if someone could tell me, or give me a good alternative, that I maybe have not thought of.

If this is the wrong subreddit to ask in, please also tell me (*-*)

The portrait is constructed through the deliberate arrangement of individual beads, creating visual transitions between light and shadow, depth and surface, and defined features and more abstract passages.

Unlike traditional painting, where form is developed through the application and blending of pigments, this technique relies on the interaction of discrete elements. The arrangement, colour, and reflective properties of the beads collectively establish the structure and dimensionality of the image.

The resulting surface possesses a distinctive tactile quality, giving the portrait a sculptural dimension that extends beyond its two-dimensional foundation.

General discussion Handmade Sellers: Can I pick your brains about something I'm building?

I'm working on an app for people who sell handmade items, and I'd love some input from others who actually do this.

I crochet, make stained glass, and do a few other crafts myself. I also work in tax and accounting, so I've seen how difficult it can be for creative people to figure out what they're actually earning from the things they make.

I'm building something that I hope will make that easier. The idea is to help handmade sellers price their work, track materials and expenses, organize their projects, and understand how much money they're really keeping, without needing to know anything about bookkeeping.

I'm still in the early development stages, and rather than build a bunch of features nobody wants, I'd love to hear from people who are already selling their work.

A few things I'm curious about:

  • How are you currently tracking your sales, expenses, and material costs?
  • Do you know how much you're actually earning per hour on the things you sell?
  • What's the most frustrating part of managing the business side of your crafts?

I'm also hoping to find a small group of handmade sellers who might be interested in giving feedback as I develop the app and eventually trying a free beta version.

I'm not selling anything, and the app isn't ready for public use yet. I'm genuinely trying to build something useful and would love to learn what people actually need.

If you're interested in helping test it down the road, feel free to comment or message me!

Finished Craft [Mine] Two cranes and a lotus, hand-cut from a single sheet of paper

Sharing the hand-cutting process for my crane-and-lotus design. ✂️

Two cranes face each other beneath a blooming lotus, with their wings and the flowing leaves connected in one piece.

Unfolding the paper and seeing both halves come together is my favourite part. What do you think of the finished design?

Question / Advice I really need some help 😩 Does anyone know what they used in that circled area? It can make the figure spin but I can't figure it out

Post image
3 Upvotes

So, i'm making this for my nephew. But I cannot figure out what the creator used in the circled part. It's some kind of clear stick that she used on the base and that makes the figure spin. Together with the magnet on top, it holds it together and so it spins. But I can't for the life of me figure out what they used and how to replicate that in my craft and to make it all work 😭.

Does anyone have any ideas? 😩 Here's the full video on YT: https://youtu.be/PhwWZy6Wr-o?is=4iIV4-YKh5GMKtI9

Thank you!!

Question / Advice How to make a mold of her?

Post image
1 Upvotes

I found this candle at a thrift store and can't find any evidence of her existing outside of herself. She's from Bill Blass but far enough back that there's just not photos or anything of her ilk.

I don't want her design to die, so how do I make a mold of her without sacrificing her in the process? If that makes sense? I essentially want to make an initial mold of her, cast it, repair the casting, and then make a mold of the repaired one to then share about, ideally. She's too damn pretty to stop existing!

Ignore the skulls and such. I'm a bone artist so I've got bones scattered every damn where.

Question / Advice Would you count these as "handmade"?

Post image
36 Upvotes

What it says in the title - my Dad thinks they might not count as "handmade" since they're just parts I assembled. I think it still counts since I technically made the earrings with my hands, out of materials I bought.

Do you think this would count as "handmade" or is it false advertising?

Edit: Please do not insult my dad in the comments. He is literally amazing. Just because we had a disagreement doesn't suddenly make him a bad or unsupportive person. It just means he thinks about things in a different way. I just want to know your opinion on the question, not his personality.

I was inspired by a pin I saw on Pinterest.

I just decorated a light purple paint chip with my washi tape and then I laminated it, and sprayed some Elmer's Craftbond adhesive spray and added this cute pink lace bow I had to the top of it.

Now when I place it in my book, it looks like it has a cute little bow on top, kinda like a gift!

Finished Craft [Mine] Made a glow in the dark coffee table

Made a very basic glow-in-the-dark coffee table. Basically two pieces of wood and four metal rods lol. Nothing fancy, just wanted to see how it would turn out.
