I cut up a pair of sheer tights with some friends, painted white stripes on them, and then painted them red. It was a disaster💔

We were supposed to use red satin ribbon first, but it didn't work well, so we painted

Self I put my costume armor designs on display at a nearby art cafe!

Yesterday I put together some of my 3d printed armor suit designs for long term display at a local cafe. Way better there than in a storage box in my basement!

We've got a "Maximilian" suit (ca. 1520-1525), currently missing the period accurate leg harness, and a mid-16th century half-suit with some paned slop pants I sewed earlier this year. I plan to release another set in the "Gothic" style of ca. 1480-1490

Hope you like em!

Help Should I use spray paint on synthetic fur before or after applying on eva foam?

Title, just asking if it's safe to use spray paint even after applying fur on eva foam. And yeah I know the it will give a more hard fibers than soft fur.

Help Can I enlarge the eye mesh holes on this mask without ruining it?

Post image
17 Upvotes

Hello, I'm looking to improve visibility through the eye mesh on this mask. When wearing it, the mesh strands obstruct my vision, making it difficult to see clearly.

I'm considering using small scissors to enlarge the individual holes, but I'm worried this might cause the mesh to unravel or fall apart. Has anyone tried this before?

Alternatively, I'm open to replacing the mesh entirely, but I'm unsure what material or hole size would work best.

My goal is to find a good balance between visibility and concealment. I want to see comfortably through the mask without my eyes being clearly visible from the outside.

I didnt like the original look of the rounds (3rd picture on the bottom is an unpainted round) so i messed with the colors to get a more realistic look. Paint job on the repeater rifle came out really well. Going to look for a way to add some wear and tear to the bandoleer and the rest of the outfit to make it more cohesive.

Help How to remove plastic paint reaction from Visor screen on inside of helmet?

Post image

My partner is making a space helmet and unfortunately it seems that the yellow paint has reacted somehow to the visor on the inside. Its not condensation, so was wondering if there's any ideas as to how to get rid of it as removing the visor is a near impossible task?

Help Complete Newbie: Is this level of quality acceptable for purchased props?

Hi all! I’m just here to ask for some opinions on whether these are all acceptable, as I am not familiar with 3D printing.

I purchased a £180 (£230 with shipping) fully finished Spiderman Brand New Day faceshell, backshell, and lenses from an Etsy seller who’s work I’ve seen on IG. The prices are in-line with other faceshell makers and sellers.

I finally received it on Monday but was very disappointed with what I got.

About half of the neodymium magnets on the faceshell and backshell came off, with some magnets coming off of the lenses.

The standard lenses are fine with just some minor marks, but the other lenses have very noticeable marks and scuff on them, even a fingerprint mark on one of them.

It also appears that some of the glue used to stick the mesh and the acrylic to the lens, has bled over to the visible parts. There are noticeable white marks, which I assume is the glue, on the mesh and acrylic.

On the backshell, there is a spiral area where there is a chunk of the PETG missing, I don’t know if that’s normal.

The part I dislike most though is I requested for PETG lenses which he agreed to, said he didn’t like the result of the PETG lenses and printed me resin lenses but said he would still include the PETG lenses, only for me to open the package and find out he never included them.

What’s weird is that the seller sent me pictures of the resin lenses and they looked perfect, which I’ll post here, only for them to end up with marks when I receive them.

Please let me know what you think, thanks a lot!

Help Advice on how to make service weapon cosplay prop.

So I got an FBC hat after resonant came out and realized Jesse would be an extremely easy cosplay to do, really just need a red wig... except for the service weapon. Anyone do this cosplay before and have advice? I'm thinking of getting a nerf gun and hot gluing some foam to it? I'd prefer the shatter configuration as that's what I usually use and I think the form is simple enough to DIY and kinda unique. The pierce form is cool but I think it would be harder to make and more flimsy/easy to break

Help Face mask help please

Hi all, advice please. First time cosplayer...

The giraffe mask I ordered probably won't arrive in time for comic con this Fri, so my backup is to make the horse mask I already have look like a giraffe.

My main worry is any paint peeling or cracking off. I'm ok, I think, with modifying the ears and ossicles (horns).

I have sheets of eva foam, acrylic paints, PVA, hot glue, fabric pens, evostic impact contact adhesive or turner and gray multi-purpose adhesive, and paint pens, sand paper, etc.

I'm very limited in ability to go and get any other materials, so really need to work with what I have.

Any advice appreciated 👍 thank you...

I guess I need attention because I'm super proud of it. And wanted to show it off! All constructive criticism and sarcasm is welcome and will be ignored by default (mostly)😉 of course design isn't mine so please don't ban me! xD I got it off a YouTube channel called SKS Props

Help Help on closure for latex hood

Post image
6 Upvotes

Looking for tips on how to bond a finished latex mask. This is the seam in the back. I have attempted to put Velcro on it as a closure but I can't get the velcro to stick.

I have tried:

- Roughing up the latex with some 80 grit sandpaper prior to gluing

- Prepped the latex surface with ammonia prior to applying the glue (read somewhere that amonia will improve the latex surface for bonding)

- Two layers of contact cement glue

I'm open to a different type of closure too. Note I do find the hook and loop velcro is a bit thick so the seam doesn't lay nice and tight.

Any suggestions?

Help Looking for someone to finish/repair two Daft Punk helmets — LA area

I have two partially built Daft Punk helmets, a gold Guy-Manuel (rainbow LED bar segments) and a silver Thomas (visor display). The electronics are mostly installed but not working reliably, and neither is set up to be worn comfortably yet. I want to get the lights functioning and both helmets made wearable.

I’m in the Los Angeles area (Near Pasadena). Looking for:

  1. Someone local who can do hands-on work

What’s already inside: a board labeled “Main Board Rev2,” rainbow LED bar modules, an EL/reflector visor panel, and AA battery packs. Photos below.

Who did you use for yours, and would you recommend them? Any makers who take commissions/repairs for these specific helmets? Rough cost/turnaround info appreciated too.

Thanks!

Help How much bigger should a pattern be for Eva foam

I'm making the patterns from scratch using duct tape and either tinfoil or saran wrap (depending on part) and I plan to use 8mm and 6mm Eva foam, so how much bigger should I make it?

Edit: I should also add that the patterns were fairly tight when I made them
