[Questions|Advice] Health | Sickness Is she ok?

Anyone who keep corydoras trilineatus ever seen a healthy female this huge? I know its common for gravid females to be big, but I have a breeding colony and none of the other laying females are close to this big so it concerns me. She has been like this for about 2+ months now. Egg bound? Some other issue? Just a chonker? Thanks!

[Questions|Advice] General Care I got my first group of pygmy cories a few days ago, I 100% get the obsession now.

They are incredibly cute aren’t they?

Initially i wanted to add more fish in there but now i think i want to leave it and let them breed instead.
Was thinking of adding some shrimps though.

For a 40L tank, what other tanks mates are good options to keep bioload low? I love good clean water that doesn’t look like it’s been through a swamp (i do have a back sponge filter & half the tank is covered in plants)

I already have a bladder snail and MTS that hitchhiked on the java moss, they’re pretty darn cute too.

Video Tubifex Tutorial

A bunch of you were asking the brand and how I stuck the freeze dried tubifex sqares to the glass. So I made a video of the whole process including the cories going crazy over them! I ripped one in half prior to recording which is what you see on the lid.

[Questions|Advice|Discussion] I hurt and killed my hastatus cory while moving stuff and I feel horrible

Post image
• Upvotes

One of my green neons was missing, and since one had recently died (even though that one had issues for a while), I was worried and started moving around driftwood looking for him.
I found that stupid green neon hiding and apparently sleeping behind a driftwood (his colors were turned off!) but while arranging stuff back saw one of my hastatus writhing like crazy on the sand. I must have crushed or pinched it while moving stuff 😭😭😭😭😭 I turned off tank lights and left it alone for a few hours like Gemini recommended, but when I came back poor baby was dead.
I feel horrible. I did not know fish could not avoid stuff in water 😭 This is the first time I directly killed one of my fish. Indirectly sure, many times, but I directly hurt, caused physical damage and death to it 😭😭😭😭
Pic for attention 😭

[Questions|Advice] Health | Sickness Julii corydoras dying

• Upvotes

When i first got my 37 gallon tank i let it cycle for about 2 months (i was gone alot during those 2 months so i couldn’t fully keep up with dosing and testing thats why it took so long) but after i finally got it cycled, i added 12 ember tetra and they’re all doing fine. a month and a few weeks ago i got 4 corydoras from petco (ik they’re meant to be in groups of 6-8 but that’s all they had) and literally the next day i found 2 dead, i had tested my tank the day i got them and the day after and the parameters were PERFECT so i still to this day have no idea what killed them, they did have red spots on their sides but like i said my nitrite and ammonia was 0 and the nitrate was between 5-10(i dont let it go above 20). Then a few days later another one died and it had the same spot so i had one living and hes still alive. Then a few weeks later i made sure the last one didnt die and he was okay and so then i bought 7, then a few weeks later after everyone settled in and they weren’t stressed anymore, i had 2 die while i was gone and my dad was feeding them and i found a partially ate body so i couldn’t tell if it had any physical or internal damage and i couldn’t even find the body of the other one. But a couple days ago i had another one die, but that one didnt have any red spots or anything the only damage he had was his fin had been nipped at by an ember tetra which caused him to dart into the glass pretty hard and i think that injured him pretty good because afterwards he was gasping and his fins were clamped basically all the time, until later when i checked on them all and i found that same one that darted into the glass lodged himself under a decoration. i feel so bad and i genuinely dont know what im doing wrong or what is causing them to die and i want to fix it immediately. everything else in the tank isnt have any problems at all its literally only the corydoras. i do have kanaplex and some other medications arriving tomorrow but i dont wanna dose anything with a blind eye and do more harm than a good. and right before i took this video i seen him just laying there with his fins clamped and literally gasping as hard as he could🙁

(I know they’re foraging but this is the best video i could get of him at the moment)

Video Completely rescaped my 20-gallon long yesterday and created a “Snuffle Zone” for the pygmy corys

I’ve had this tank densely planted on both sides for a long time, but have been wanting to redo it to have an open area for the my school of Pygmy Corys to snuffle around in. Decided to go for it yesterday (pardon the cloudiness, still settling), and so far it’s working out perfectly! Just wish the Harlequin Rasboras weren’t photobombing the whole time.

[Questions|Advice] Health | Sickness What's up with this guys mouth?

Post image

I just noticed this venezuelan cory and something is strange with his mouth, its pale and his barbell are gone. Any ideas??? The tank is a 30g with plenty of driftwood, plants, and black aquarium sand on the bottom. I did have one random death from this batch when I got them, but otherwise there are 8 more seemingly healthy corys without this

[Questions|Advice|Discussion] Whenever I feed my Rasboras, one of my Pygmy Corys thinks he is one of them

Anyone else had this? Some are just sifting the substrate, but whenever I feed my Rasboras some Artemia gel, he joins the shoal and starts eating the particles lol.

Like, he is not just swimming alongside, he actively joins the shoal and move within the shoal, acting like a Rasbora.

The Rasboras don’t even bat an eye, they’ve accepted him. When they’ve ate most of it he starts acting like a Cory again.

Pygmy’s are such derpy fish! I didn’t know they are such active swimmers and they look the cutest ❤️

Hi I'm back from another post, and I feel like I might've fixed it but I'm feeling paranoid now.

I asked some of the people in my comments from last time and got mixed opinions.

Am I still dealing with Ich but milder? Epi? Normal colouring and I'm being silly?

[Questions|Advice] Health | Sickness Fin rot or something else?

I noticed 3 of my peppered corydoras had chunks of dorsal fins missing and just now noticed a sort of rip perhaps in one of my bronze. Could this be fin rot?

Will esha 2000 help or should I buy something else?

Some of them are suddenly spooked if I hold my phone to the glass not sure if that’s related.

I have a 5 bronze 5 albino, 8 peppered, a bristlenose pleco and and a betta. Could it be the betta? They’ve been in there together for months and I’ve never seen any aggressive behaviour.

Ammonia 0
Nitrate 10
Nitrite 0

Temp varies between 24-26

Thank you

I don’t know why I can’t add a photo sigh I’ll put in comments.

[Questions|Advice|Discussion] Can't decide.

I moved my shrimps and fish from 25l to 75l aquarium and now I would like to add some corydoras. I made some sand beach in front. I just can't decide which type of cory to choose. I am planning to add a couple Bolivian ram in the future. I want medium size Cory's, around 4cm ( 1,5 inch). Temp in my tank is between 24 and 25 Celsius. Could please help me and tell me what are my options? I dont want biological overload, I would like to have some more fish in the future. I dont want the tiny ones either. Sorry English not the first language

[Questions|Advice] Health | Sickness Ripped Fins

Just woke up to one of my Corys with ripped fins. Just to add context, my tank consists of 2 BN plecos and 9 Bronze Cory. As of recent, I switched feeding time to once every other day so I’m pretty sure that might add to the whole fins situation with my pleco being overtly aggressive

Would it be advisable to rehouse the plecos or should I switch to normal feeding time? And how long will it take for the fins to grow back?

Thanks for the advise!

[Questions|Advice|Discussion] 6 sterbai suitable for my island layout? (photos + parameters)

Thumbnail
gallery
6 Upvotes

Hi everyone! I’m planning to add a group of 6 Corydoras sterbai to my planted tank and would love your opinion on whether my setup is suitable. Photos attached.

Tank

  • 80 x 40 x 40 cm (31.5 x 15.7 x 15.7 in), about 120 L (32 US gal) usable, rimless
  • Aquascape in an island style, with dark rocks and a few stones
  • Substrate: inert fine sand (no soil), [add the brand or grain size if you know it]
  • Free sand area, no plants on it except a small Echinodorus bartii at the back:
    • Front strip: roughly 70 cm (27.5 in) long and 5-10 cm (2-4 in) deep
    • Left side: about 10 cm (4 in) wide
    • Back strip: the full 80 cm (31.5 in) length, about 5-10 cm (2-4 in) deep
    • The right side is blocked by the filter
    • Total free sand: about 1,500 cm² (about 230 in²)
  • Plants: Nymphaea, Anubias, Limnophila/Hygrophila, Vesicularia/Taxiphyllum moss and some small foreground plants
  • Filter: Oase 250 (v2). Light: Chihiros 80 cm (v2) at 40%, 16:00-21:00
  • Temperature: 26 °C (79 °F). No CO2
  • Age: about 45 days. Weekly water changes, fertilised with Florence and Tropica Premium Nutrition

Water parameters (17 Oct, before the water change)

  • NH4: <0.01 mg/L (ppm)
  • NO2: <0.01 mg/L (ppm)
  • NO3: 3-5 mg/L (ppm)
  • PO4: 1 mg/L (ppm)
  • pH: 7.0-7.5
  • KH: 3 °dKH (about 54 ppm)
  • GH: 11 °dGH (about 196 ppm)

Current stock
About 15 Neocaridina (Blue Dream) and 3 Amano shrimp. No fish yet.

Planned stock
6 C. sterbai and 13 harlequin rasboras. Nothing else on the bottom.

My questions

  1. Is the sand area (about 1,500 cm² / 230 in² of usable floor, mostly narrow strips) enough for 6 sterbai long term, or is it too tight?
  2. Is a GH of 11 with KH 3 and a pH of 7-7.5 fine for them? Would you change anything?
  3. Is 26 °C (79 °F) good, or would you go lower?
  4. Anything in my layout (rock edges, narrow front strip, lots of moss and plants) that could be a problem for barbels or for the group?
  5. Do you think sterbai will bother my shrimp, apart from eating a few babies?

Thanks a lot for any feedback!
