Discussion Stupid fake coins

Just had a coin that I sold to someone come up fake. Im giving them a return and am trying to make it right. Its literally the only coin I didnt get to scan with an xrf. The weight was right and the ping passed. But that makes me look like crap. Now im trying to find who sold it to me. I absolutely hate when people do this. I had posted a picture of the coin on reddit as well it was one of thr best fakes I've seen. My customer sent me a picture of it on a scan so I know for a fact he is telling the truth. It just completely ruins a person's word. Ill never sell something with just checking the weight and ping again. It was and 1892 cc sold it for 280. Im considering sending him a free morgan that I have graded and is guaranteed. Just had to vent this. Please peeps if you have a coin and its confirmed fake make that thing or destroy it.

Discussion Anyone else struggle to get coin photos that look like the coin in hand?

A coin can look great in hand, then you take a phone photo and suddenly every little mark is the main attraction. Or the opposite happens: the lighting hides half the marks and makes it look much nicer than it really is.

Toning seems especially hard to capture. Move the light a little and the colors either disappear or look completely different.

The goal wouldn’t even be a fancy photo. Just something you could show another collector and say, “Yep, that’s pretty much how it actually looks.”

What’s one small change that improved your coin photos? Different lighting, moving the phone farther away, a different background? Curious what works without buying a whole photography setup.

Discussion Thaler restrikes

Are Thaler restrikes a waste of time/money?

And if they're not are the ones with a restrike date more valuable?

I know there are a lot of 'restrike 1974s out there.

If you get a restrike coin graded can they determine what year it was done?

Coin Damage Actually surprised myself that I was able to find out what coin this was!

Mom found this coin in the road and picked it up thinking it was a US quarter. I saw the ridge was not a US quarter and I just had to find out what it was. The lighting let me see a few letters, and I could barely make out "TWENTY FIVE CENTS" and "STATES". I did a bit of digging and actually found it. It's the East Caribbean 25 cent coin. Mind you, we are in rural PA, so why it was way out here, I have no idea.

Coin Art Found a Gold Coin in My Grandfather’s Old Wallet! 🪙👀

I found this tiny gold-coloured coin in my grandfather’s old wallet. It features Queen Victoria on one side and a horseman on the other. Someone called it “Victoria Digi.”

I tested it is gold...

Is this genuine gold? How old is it, and could it be valuable? Any coin experts who can help identify it? 👀

Real or Fake? 1822 George IV Crown (TERTIO) weighs only 27.165 g — does this look genuine?

I bought an 1822 George IV Crown with the TERTIO edge inscription. It's in Fine condition but weighs only 27.165 g, compared with the standard 28.28 g.

Numista: https://en.numista.com/13181

Is this weight plausible for a genuine coin with this level of wear, or should I be concerned about a counterfeit?

If it turns out to be fake or misrepresented, I'll leave the seller a negative review with the evidence. I'd like to get your opinions before jumping to conclusions.

Thanks!
