With WoW especially you have to take any data mined assets with a grain of salt, because the clients share assets to make the download smaller if you have all the clients installed. I would imagine it's relatively easy for new assets to temporarily get labeled as shared and so downloaded to a client it doesn't belong to.
Blizzard has also stated repeatedly that theyre intentionally obfuscating information and hiding items and other things behind actually being seen in game for the first time, and that datamined content is more untrustworthy than ever.
But everyone's gotten lost in the sauce and just has an insatiable need to know everything so they either dont miss out or to capitalize on every small thing.
They said the same shit for SoD and nothing really changed. The only things that will be hidden that were not hidden for SoD is the items from raid and some spells like boss abilities, but once things are encountered by anyone in game they can be seen by the dataminers.
Also, this isn't an example of them obfuscating or hiding information, these were assets meant for a different game that were incorrectly packaged with forever. There was also a bunch of retail stuff that didn't belong in the build. The dataminer who set this all off is also the one who was (partly) responsible for the "experience change" fiasco recently.
I was exactly thinking this today, when the mounts were datamined. Like what a prank it would be to add bunch of random shit art assets to the latest build, just to see how the community will react to it.
Or add a bunch of good art assets and not release them for over a year when they will be rewards for some top tier raid down the line. Now you have epic le trolled and also made the company millions in more people expecting high quality content, and also built insane hype when that raid finally releases.

Yeah just trying to find reasonable/meaningful discussion during beta has been exhausting. 0% chance finding it on the official forums, at least here there's a possibility, but it's getting to be just as bad as the official forums.
People don't even know there was a Rooster, Spectral Tiger, and Turtle in OG WoW-WOTLK. So it's not like they weren't classic.. these were just HD versions.

Well end of Vanilla before TBC launched you could get the Rooster, then Spectral Tiger TBC, and then Turtle WOTLK. They were just extremely rare, and a lot of people here never actually played launch, so a bunch of people don't even know they are literally classic mounts lol.

no, the internet and gamers as a whole have been sucked into the whole datamining culture so much that they take files and the state of leaks as gospel.
i'm sure blizzard can hide a file that contains a fanfiction between Sylvanis and a murloc and people would go "WHAT DOES THIS MEAN!!1!" and then freak out about how it breaks the character and the lore and how Blizzard is ripping off princess and the frog and how they don't respect their players anymore.
They should start doing that, fill the game with hidden shitposts to give miserable folks something to whine about while keeping it fun for everyone else.
People also seem to believe that everything can be datamined. When blizzard wants to hide something, they can. The race to world first guilds have analysts whose entire job it is to datamine the patches for raid information and they didn’t know a secret phase was going to happen on L’ura last tier.

You realize its far more likely that they're just backtracking after seeing the reactions, right? These mounts were specifically found in Forever files. The mounts even had that whole half ass attempt at being low resolution but still modern look about them.

Calling the pre-order mounts at all similar to the chicken and fairie dragon mounts that were datamined is dishonest. They're not even close to the same in terms of the classic visual identity.

I didn’t see many talking about the possibility of it being datamined. I just saw a bunch of people saying to stop complaining while blindly defending assets that clearly don’t belong in Forever.
WOW crazy, like I said in the post crying about it, the games share the same client as retail and these are likely for that.
Even if they weren't, The Rooster, Turtle, and Spectral Tiger were released in OG Wow, TBC, and then WOTLK anyway with the card game.... So, technically the mounts were classicish anyway, just HD. Glad they aren't coming, except the rooster, the rooster is legit.
theres already a ton of out of place shit you can see on vendors in the beta, there's a whole $30 race with a whole zone full of it.
maybe these specific assets aren't coming to forever, but it's very obvious the direction that they're going and i'm sure a year from now there will be a ton of out of place retail looking shit in the game.

I know I would. Something silly like Thrall defecting to Alliance and waging a war as a questline, Warlock talents that make them an actual tank, MLP Mounts (or something similar but not copyrighted).
I mean, they did say in the last week or two that the game client file size is a lot bigger than intended and they will shrink it down in time. The logical conclusion would be that there are extra art assets in the files left over from porting the client/stuff from other versions.

If I was Blizzard I’d put all kinds of unintended assets to be mined, so then nobody knows if the assets are real or not.
Just like they flooded the zone with leaks before Forever was announced. One of the leaks was actually legit, and said “Forever” was going to be the new game, but there was already so much noise in the channel that it got drowned out by all the fake leaks.
It worked pretty good the first time so why wouldn’t they keep doing it?
I would rather complain asap rather than wait and see and then having a bunch of stuff that we don't want in the game.
Also we have seen that they hear feedback, since they adjusted the sky elf druid forms. I would rather have them properly make 1 asset instead of having to rework already fully made and implemented one.
I don't mean it in a negative way. Isn't what beta and this whole thing is about right now? The game isn't out, they want to know what we like and don't. If we just say okay to everything and then stop playing if we don't like it nobody will be happy, not Blizzard and not us (I really like wow forever so far from what I've seen)

It doesn't accidentally get added onto the wow forever section, it was datamined because it was meant to be released.
If you don't trust Blizzard, why are you even playing? You obviously can't trust them to do whatever you want so you'll just always be a miserable person who cries online all day.
