Forever MadSeasonShow explaining why some of us during Beta are complaining about the “little things” perhaps a bit too much

Bitching and complaining is what got us Classic.
Bitching and complaining is what got us Classic+ (WoW: Forever).
Now we’re being told we can’t bitch and complain because it doesn’t achieve anything!?
51
u/MastyTinge 7h ago
The irony of people complaining about people complaining will never get old, they lack any nuance.
And I think they fundamentally cant grasp they can enjoy the game while it still has issues people can point out.
•
u/edwardsamson 4h ago
Complaining about complainers is literally more useless than complaining about the game. Complaining about the game can result in changes. Complaining about complainers just adds more BS to this sub and aims to silence people.

because they don’t even play the game, and if they do i know these mfs are the dude in ur group with a blunt lit giving all his attention to season 3 of the office on second monitor with all game sound turned off and a podcast playing
14
u/Paddy_Tanninger 5h ago
Well, no...playing classic private servers is what got us classic.
Playing private classic+ servers is what got us SoD and classic+
Blizz doesn't develop based on complaints. They develop based on market trends.
•
u/CheekyBastard55 1h ago
No, this is a myth that is propagated all over the Internet when that same thing has a very clear track record of being one of the only things customers have to affect the development of games. This is true for every game.
Issues that are brought up get fixed, the squeaky wheel gets the grease.
•

u/Whiteshovel66 7h ago
Absoluletly NOT what "got us" those things. They were economically viable and shown to be via private servers. You basically had no idea what was going on behind the scenes but you were "bitching" the whole time and thought you did something.
If anything, you did the opposite. They originally ignored you and told you so at a famous blizzcon qna. They eventually changed their minds after they spoke to the Nostalrius devs and saw how big of a deal this could become for them.
0
u/ImpossibleMorning12 6h ago
you were "bitching" the whole time and thought you did something.
Dude you don't get it. Me calling Blizzard lazy and greedy 10 times a day on Reddit is the reason we even have this game.
When I, paragon of virtue, posted Tom Ellis' 20 year old Facebook posts in an attempt to cancel him, that was me constructively and bravely fighting for lighter naming restrictions.
You're welcome.
-1
u/ImpossibleMorning12 6h ago
No, bitching and complaining is not what got us those things, displaying a viable market for these products did. Being an insufferable whiner on Reddit is not necessary for that step.
In this clip, he is bitching and complaining about events that happened 8 years ago. Can we move on? How is this constructive at all?

Its more of the fact that the classic community knows that if Blizzard isnt willing to do the little things then this will just be another rug pull.
17
u/KingKC612 7h ago
Agreed, we actually have to hold them accountable otherwise it will be a slippery slope. Imagine if we didn't bitch about any of the SD models, Skyborne etc etc
55
u/Reiker0 10h ago
This is especially true of the Classic+ community. Which was still shunned in 2019 and people yelled "no changes" until they created their own versions of the game on private servers.
I'd love to play an official version of the game, I don't want to have to go back to twow. But I also remember feeling this same excitement about SoD and ultimately I was let down by the design decisions with that game and I went back to playing twow.
22
u/bibittyboopity 8h ago
It's really just impossible when we are in the realm of "companies owned by microsoft".
I honestly believe the devs give a shit, but at the end of the day some one higher up is going to say "sell something". Companies of this scale can't help but drive products into the ground in the name of making numbers go up.
•
u/Equal-Contract-8313 4h ago
ye if they need to meet a quarterly target, they’ll need to do anything they can to meet it
unfortunately the success of wow forever will not get met for a long time and this will piss off the higher ups as they will see that massive peak and keep wanting that same peak

And then these private servers had thrice the MTX and player power buying potential than retail ever even thought about.

I have been complaining a lot. I am really looking forward to the release and I like 90% of what they are doing. But some classes feel left behind.

They even said "no plans at this time", which isn't a definitive no.
21
u/WybjornDev 8h ago
Boosts and tokens weren't originally on the table for classic servers either.
Blizzard already has a track record of going back on things that "aren't in the spirit of classic."
9
u/kirby-ate-my-heart 6h ago
I've never seen a derivative community so defined by their parent game. At this point it's part of Classic dna that they're not retail and it's part of its identity.

End of the day it's all about the money. Tbh I had a blast on turtle, was an amazing 2 years I played.
Just like your first expansion you played, or vanilla if you were lucky too, or even life itself...time is fleeting and all things must come to an end. That doesn't mean you can't spend time enjoying a great journey and story.
If it gets ruined for x y or z, that's honestly ok. Nothing lasts forever.

If you aren't at least trying to enjoy the game you should not be worried about any of this. Let alone telling how the company he make their game after admitting you haven't played it since prior to 2019 launch.

Hopefully at this point Blizzard realizes that the community isn't going to get suckered into going to retail.
2019 classic launch to MoP should be evidence of this.

If anyones wondering what the old 2019 classic player population is. It's that itty bitty tiny little pixel at the right.
As we can see the whole project to try and bring the 2019 classic community to retail, died at MoP.
Which is absolutely poetic, because it was original MoP that we got. "You think you do, but you don't want classic servers." From J Alan Brack.
And now here we are, YEARS LATER, and second MoP is dead, and we have a new version of fresh classic with Forever breaking numbers in their Beta.
11
u/bibittyboopity 8h ago
It's kind of funny the pops even resemble OG WoW player numbers with the wotlk rise and dropoff starting at cata.
•
u/Spoonbread 3h ago edited 2h ago
You mean the absolute unrecoverable cratering that happens in the wotlk patch cycle when people realize it wasn't the game they remembered from when they were kids?
The dead cat bounce when Ulduar released and the lack of sustained interest in any other patch for that version is obvious.
•
u/Chudpaladin 2h ago
It still amuses me how people used to fellate Ulduar as the best raid known to man… until Ulduar wow classic released and the pop dropped off a cliff.
21
u/anikibill 10h ago
To be fair, in the classic space MOP competes with Anny, Era, SOD, Hardcore so it's not apples to apples but I agree MOP is unpopular.
24
u/Zakarumae 10h ago
It was also completely abandoned by devs early in the expansion. There are a ton of reasons why MOP population dwindled
6
u/Randvek 10h ago
I think that's just mixing cause and effect. Devs abandoned MoP because playerbase was dwindling.

u/Bio-Grad 7h ago
Mop died for me a few levels into the braindead awful questing on rails which was basically me pulling 15 mobs at once in bear form and AoEing them down retail style.
5
u/TinglingLingerer 10h ago
Cata fucked the 51/61/71 point talent system & MOP continued with it. I think that's where a ton of folks who want to play 'vanilla' draw the line.
6
u/Rhobodactylos 6h ago
Nah.
In Classic-TBC-WOTLK there's a feel to each button press that feels rewarding and satisfying.
It gets a little diluted in Cataclysm, the pace feels slower, but you press more buttons, more often.
MOP even with its solid class designs feels terrible to play, because button clicks don't "feel" impactful. - it all becomes Rotationalized in a sense. - And it never got better, it feels like WoW 2.0 from MoP onwards.
Talents points had nothing to do with it, all the good players copied talents and all the clueless noobs did 0/0/61.
→ More replies (4)9
u/Randvek 10h ago
All classic players have a different idea of when WoW stopped being good but it's virtually unanimous that MoP is on the wrong side of that line.
5
u/TinglingLingerer 9h ago
It never stopped being good, it just became something unrecognisable from the classic / tbc / early wrath era of games. I had a lot of fun in mop, but the game no longer felt like the game I had originally started playing.
IMO the biggest individual change seen across cata & mop were the changes throughout the entire talent system.
I also think the random dungeon finder halfway through wrath was a huge inflection point towards the death of the 'vibe' of classic.
2
u/SystemGardener 9h ago
Ehhh MOP is definitely better than Cata, it was a great PvP expansions and had some banger raids.
0
u/tinylittlebabyjesus 7h ago
How did Cata fuck the talent point system? Or should I just go google it? Lol. I barely played, like a week at a friend's house during Cata. Was my most modern WoW experience.
3
u/TinglingLingerer 7h ago
Cata talent squished down to 41 & you had to invest 31 into a tree before you could spend outside the tree. They called it forced specialization.
MoP was just a full blown fuck you to a many pointed talent tree and let you choose one ability every 15 levels and that lasted for a long long time.

u/IronShawarma 7h ago
I'm cautiously optimistic and will be playing Forever like crazy, but usually it's a death by a thousand cuts that slowly diminishes the quality of WoW over time. There's a lot of passion behind the developers working on Forever, but all it takes with this community are compounding divisive updates over time that tip the scales away from a classic+ experience and closer to retail which would drive some players away again.
•
u/Chudpaladin 2h ago
In the player’s desire for QoL and optimization, wow forever could easily lead to retail. It’s up to the devs to know what the players need, not what some loud vocal voices want. The devs are doing a pretty good job in my mind, but stuff like windborne makes me weary of Blizz’s idea of new classic content
•
u/Ill-Pudding-3168 1h ago
Exactly, this game cant please the classic community forever, unless they remove and add content continuously. Which would be strange. In the end, via many small updates, the spirit of classic will be gone, like you said. Might be graphical changes, might be cosmetics or legacy systems, but the game has no way of lasting "forever" at least not for me.

Nothing about the gameplay. What you are describing is the company and their choices. Play the game and it's very much classic.

1

Which direction though? They didn't even get there with progressive classic and that's been 7 years now. "clearly" is simply the wrong term here. You and I have no idea what the game will look like past next year. Its obviously not going to change that massively in that time, so who cares? Are we going completely ignore the fact basic raid mechanics and requirements increased across the expansions and most classic players want to drool on their keyboards and not face any challenging gameplay. You can’t just blame it all on boosts or tokens.
Editing to add on that it’s strange to imply that MoP is solely dead because of “retail” when ToT was long and filled with bugs and tbc anniversary released during it. It was destined to fail for multiple reason
8
u/AncientZJJ 9h ago
that moment when you realize drooling on your keyboard is more fun than any other expansion post WOTLK xD
•
u/Chrisaeos 4h ago
I'm a little retail player that pushes M+ and used to Mythic raid and man do I wish retail was more drooling on your keyboard level of difficult.
I still really enjoy playing the game with my friends, but the number of friends has dwindled and dwindled over the years and the esporty super competitive attitude of a lot of its player base and the difficulty of its raids/dungeons/classes has definitely contributed to driving them away.

The classic “it died at mop” without the context that mop was beating the current vanilla iteration at the time until we were 2 weeks into thunder king and they announced “HOPE YOU LIKE THUNDER KING BECAUSE HERE’S WHERE YOU WILL STAY FOR ANOTHER 9 MONTHS”. Try that in ANY version and see if people survive doing the same raid for fucking 30+ weeks straight.

•
u/ObsidianLuke 1h ago
It's often the "little things" that open the doors to much more and can have massive ripple effects. Although here in the video it's nothing "small", it's already quite massive. And to be fair, classic would not even exist if it was not for "complaining" (although some are a little intense and lessen the overall credibility of valid critiques).
Character boosts, WoW tokens, paid transmogs, paid mounts, etc. have no place here. And sadly I'm sure designers agree to it to some degree, while others up top will force it. Take transmog for instance. I like how it is done, but we all know it lets the door wide open for the shop.
I get it, the game is not classic, it's classic+. It means new stuff! But I hope all new additions are calculated and valuable (or perhaps simple updates). Every new mount I got in vanilla/classic meant something and/or was very rare. There's something iconic with items in classic, especially with the lack of a cosmetics shop.
4
u/natural_disaster0 7h ago
Most people are the complain and still pay type of noisy. Until they become the complain and stop paying kind of noisy, blizzard isn't going to listen. The reason you get ignored is because they know youll still keep paying and playing.

It's simple, because Reddit is full of man-children who are not married, have no kids, have low level jobs, have nothing going for them, so they think wow will give them something real life can't. Basement dwelling neckbeards who are sad and pathetic and care more about a tiny nerf to a racial instead of their health or career.

There's nothing wrong with that lifestyle tho. Not everyone wants to be married with kids
You also then have those gamer dads who barely have 2hs to play on a weekend and complain about how "the game doesn't respects their time". And so the companies add microtransactions to speed up or entirely skip big part of the games ruining the core balance of the game for everyone

As far as WoW tokens and level boosts are concerned, when #nochanges are allowed by the community, then they have to do stuff like that to earn revenue.
In Forever they’ll have transmog and the integrated shop, which should earn gobs more revenue than boosts and tokens, so they’re not as motivated to add those to the game.
I’m always prepared to be shellshocked, but Blizzard has been doing a lot of things right too with Forever, despite a few missteps. We’ll only know what the future holds when it gets here.

These statements make no sense, as when WoW launched, there wasnt a cash shop, yet it survived. However, now its always "Cash shop needed to make money"
How the fuck did wow get to what... WTOLK without cash shops?

The current generation of mmo players is brain broken and use to constantly paying for cosmetics.
It's sad that we will never have a game again without paid cosmetics. People like to say it doesn't matter having paid cosmetics but before this was a thing how your character looked was something people wanted to do stuff in games to achieve rather than just buy it. How your character looks is an equal end game goal to better loot and stats for a huge majority of people and now that half of the game is just purchased with a credit card.

allowed?

lol, they make plenty from subscription. They can avoid selling level boosts and fancy mounts that is jarringly misplaced in the vanilla world.
I am sure it's important for you to lick boots for the billion dollar company.

I'll never forgive Blizzard for slapping RICO lawsuits on TWoW. They just knew they couldn't compete. Multi-billion dollar company against hobby passionate devs. It's really pathetic

Some Blizzard defenders doing their damnedest to gaslight us into believing that Blizzard won't pull another Blizzard on us
