Forever Recently datamined mounts are not intended for WoW Forever
https://eu.forums.blizzard.com/en/wow/t/datamined-in-the-latest-beta-build/636148229
u/typhoon_nz 7h ago
And this is why I hate datamining, it's just so bad for the community
129
u/Security_Ostrich 7h ago
If the community could stop having full on mental breakdowns over every... little... thing... Well that might help too lol.
It's so exhausting to even read this sub. Every day a new world ending threat. Lot like retail actually. Lol.
30
u/Janglewood 7h ago
There’s barely any real discussion, no real enjoyment. Like it’s a thousand complains to maybe one conversation on actual leveling or what profs do you want to do. It’s so bad
12
u/ripleyisntreal 6h ago
Yeah this sub is terrible and has been since 2019.

Was gonna say this. As a lurker (I put it in my main feed years ago and never bothered to get rid of it) this sub has always been a cesspool of whiny 40 year old man children. It's nothing new.
5
u/Wellthatsucks86 7h ago
If you realize that 90% of the complaints are from Era andies mad they aren’t getting attention from the devs, it’ll make browsing easier
2
u/Spaceolympian50 5h ago
Yea i have never understood people’s desire to ruin every little detail about a game they haven’t played yet. So weird.
14
u/little_hoe 7h ago
it's just so bad for the community
The community that is outraged by a chicken mount in their fantasy game? The adult crybabies in this sub would be outraged if their moms brought unsliced apples to their basement.
4
u/Bluemikami 6h ago
Remember all the scalpers and FOMO that got upset by blizzard adding a certain TCG mount as a twitch drop? Fun times.
-7
u/nano_peen 7h ago
Chicken didn’t fit with classic+ imo so I’m glad it’s not included lmao
8
u/bjlight1988 6h ago
The chicken is from the classic era of WoW. You even had to pay for it outside of game.
→ More replies (1)2
u/little_hoe 6h ago
Not a huge fan either, but the point is that sooooo many people threw a full tantrum over a mount that wasn't even confirmed to be in the game. Just mindless crying over a roumour.
→ More replies (9)→ More replies (1)2
u/nemestrinus44 5h ago
Datamining isn’t bad by itself, it’s when the people seeing what gets found come to unreasonable conclusions and then get mad at those conclusions while taking them as fact is when datamining becomes “bad for the community.”
I personally would have liked to have those mounts and armor sets that have been found, but I’m also one of the few people on this sub who don’t want this game to look like it crawled straight out of 2004 and act like the last 22 years hasn’t happened graphics wise
38
u/remakeprox 7h ago
Alongside the mounts were also some datamined Companions and transmog sets. One of which was this incredibly fluffy looking Fey Dragon. Safe to assume that one is also not for WoW Forever

Classic Redditors, WoWhead Commentors, or Blizzard Forum Posters, who would win in a battle to the bottom?
7
u/audioshaman 6h ago
I can't believe there was a controversy based on incorrect info from data mining. Who could have know this was possible
34
u/JimmytheNice 7h ago
> “please be advised that these assets are not intended for this version of World of Warcraft.” i’ve heard these words before.
> not from you specifically and with all respect to you as a person, but we’ve experienced the past making us fear the future when these things pop up
> fear the future
could you be more dramatic?
10
18
u/Sudden_Energy 7h ago
These people never developed mentally past age 14 and played the same game for 20 years, of course they're afraid of the future.
13
u/BigRay_2007 7h ago
I made a post about not blinding trusting datamining like an hour ago and was getting dunked on for it. It's very difficult to take this Reddit seriously sometimes
5
u/Barnhard 6h ago
What’s funny is that blindly trusting datamining has already been proven to be a mistake multiple times since the game was announced. But they keep doing it.
•
•
u/Guilty_Turn8903 4h ago
instead you blindly trust blizzard's damage control team, claiming that assets in the wow forever client are not intended for wow forever.
8
u/Shpongolese 6h ago
And people were talking so much shit to me for mocking the fact people are taking Data mined assets as gospel
3
u/bibittyboopity 6h ago
They did the same thing with clas sets that ended up being 8 months old.
Just don't trust datamines. Save rage for things they actually announce or release
18
5
u/thepolesreport 5h ago
As soon as I saw that post earlier and what the mounts looked like I knew this would be the outcome but of course people can’t critically think when they see something that they can potentially be outraged by

I cant believe people are cringing out at the racials
5
u/iRDataNick 6h ago
The sub wanted weapon racials gone until an imagined streamer said it, then it because a horrible idea. Turns out everything I don’t like is because of a streamer I never saw. Weird.
•
u/Veklanash 4h ago
I don't watch streamers and it's bad for the game. You people are going to be eating your words in a year when this turns into Retail 2.0.
The MAIN issue with the Racials is some have a huge advantage in PvP over others. Nobody serious gives a shit about 1% more DPS at the highest end.
Gnomes escape artist is broken, Eureka lets you play burst completely differnt.
Humans stun break is really strong & 2% flat crit is amazing as a DOT class.
Night elves still have Shadowmeld & 2% flat movent speed buff its really strong.
Dwarfs Stoneform is one of the best racials in the game.
Meanwhile... Orcs & Undead get gutted in PvP. I hate Alliance but there is ZERO chance as a Druid I am playing a Skyborne or Tauren over Nightelf for PvP.

7
u/Xavion15 6h ago
You mean this community overreacted to something before it was confirmed?
Wow, I am actually in disbelief
6
u/Zibe123 7h ago
Fantastic, now we can go back to complaining about minmaxers.
2
u/Elden_Ring_Hype 7h ago
No no no. Now we have to complain about racials, and we need minmaxers to give us graphs and math for that. After the racials are fixed, THEN we go after minmaxers.

u/jumps004 6h ago
weird, they appear quite heavily at the Chinese Forever event going on right now, guess China will be getting stuff America won't
4
u/nemestrinus44 5h ago
China players aren’t as picky so blizzard gets to actually make things for them
→ More replies (1)•
u/schmink13 4h ago
*china players love pay to win game addiction and blizzard is happy to take their credit card.

So during SoD we had SoD abilities mingling with Classic Era because they were on the same client.
Are we going to see something similar now? With Retail assets/abilities leaking into Forever? 😆
This is going to be a bi-weekly occurrence for sure lol
5
u/MeeseChampion 6h ago
I wanted that turtle mount. This sub is so dumb that they’re gonna make blizzard scared to do anything new or fun.
3
u/IGargleGarlic 5h ago
the best part of WoW has always been collecting cool shit to show off to other players. Thats why transmog is so popular and why people spend so much time collecting mounts and pets in retail.
wanting less cool shit to collect is fucking weird
4
u/czeja 6h ago
Forever related posts on Reddit are downright miserable. The amount of times people have been downright wrong with info is comical.
Game looks like awesome fun and I can't wait for November 4.
3
u/IGargleGarlic 5h ago
I think most classic players are just a miserable bunch to begin with. Its why I stopped playing classic, too many angry neckbeards who treat a video game like its their entire life.
•
u/AnonBB21 4h ago
I actually left a guild that was good just because they were always bitching about Classic even while playing Classic.
Don't have time in my life to game with people that just bitch all the time.
•
u/Blashtik 3h ago
The difference between you and those guildies is that you weren't hopelessly addicted. You had the bad overwhelm the good, so you stopped. Your guildies on the other hand can't stop and instead spend their time endlessly complaining while still playing the game, trying to squeeze the smallest amount of joy out of it.
•
u/Mother_Bid_4294 52m ago
It's why I'm treating forever as a "I'll see it when I see it" cause hoh boy the nothing burger that people got upset over that was the mounts of all things solidified that for me. Reddit is a miserable echochamber.

6
u/BakuretsuGirl16 7h ago
That's good to hear, why were they in the build though? Does forever use the same build as another version?
10
u/Affectionate_Toe6542 7h ago
Forever literally uses retail assets. If you have retail installed, the forever beta is ~14gb. If you don't have retail, then it's over 60gb in size. I don't know if it's just the engine and client making up the ~50gb difference in retail files and everything else is the classic skin ontop or what.
2
u/nemestrinus44 5h ago
Which is weird, we installed all these retail assets and yet they won’t let us use any of them outside of the playable races
6
u/zani1903 7h ago
And my bigger piece of curiosity, why are their textures lower quality than what would otherwise be expected if these assets are intended for a non-Forever version?
15
u/remakeprox 7h ago
The previously datamined Rexxar set was for the China Titanforged server (or first found there) so maybe for that?

u/Storm-on 7h ago edited 12m ago
they 100% were intended for forever, they are the exact same level of detail as forever's undead paladin mount, which is below the LoD for Retail. They either decided against adding them after the backlash today or a few weeks ago when they started working on fixing other high-poly assets like skyborne and the druid forms.
Edit: everyone is mad asf about this but its objectively true that these are in Forever's Level of Detail. and its not like this exact situation hasn't happened before where blizzard then immediately lies and backtracks after backlash over datamined content (see westfall barns in retail housing in 12.1.0).
everyone is taking blizzards statement at face value when they have every single possible motivation for lying and have a history of doing it.

u/Afraid_Wave_1156 7h ago
It seems Forever is the modern engine with old assets and quests. Hence things like the hunter bow and wand not needing charge time until they fixed it as an example.
1
u/blatant_shill 6h ago
Classic and Retail are likely the "same" game at this point. That's not to say they're made exactly the same, but on the backend it's likely true. It's not even just a Forever thing. Even on Era it's the case, because it caused a whole bunch of bugs when they updated everything relatively recently.
6
u/Drakthul 7h ago
This is pretty funny considering how many comments I saw chastising people for overreacting.
They were overreacting in the end I guess, because they weren’t going to end up in the game.
But then again, they were also right about feeling that these assets didn’t fit in.
Shows the real pitfalls of data mining if you ask me.
8
u/Entire_Rhubarb_7161 6h ago
Yeah but they were acting as if their whole family was murdered right in front of them
-5
u/CyborgTiger 7h ago

-2
u/bjlight1988 6h ago
The chicken was already IN CLASSIC. As something you had to spend money outside of the game for, no less!

u/LancingLash 7h ago

-8
u/Shrabster33 6h ago
Yep. This is what the characters of the people coming in here from other wow subs and defending these mounts look like.
https://i.imgur.com/ocXAWmZ.png
Do not give these people an inch, they will take a mile.
I'd rather complain about them and it turn out they aren't meant for wow forever than wait until its too late and all the capital cities are full of a variety of silly mounts and costumes.

I'm all for banning anyone who got outraged about stuff that was found via dataming from the subreddit. Like how stupid are we?

Its kind of funny how many people were defending them and saying they were definitely good mounts for classic, even blizzard doesn't think so
•
u/Eateries 3h ago
It’s unbelievable how many just slumped to defense because they think any form of criticism is whining and complaining.
Imagine defending art assets from another version of the game.

Gonna play a bit of devil's advocate here.
I think the meltdown was a good thing, ultimately. Not saying I approve of grown men getting over emotional in social media posts, but I do think that having the sub in an uproar did send a message about these types of mounts.
For a moment, humor the idea that the opposite happened. What if this sub was super hype for those mounts? Blizzard would probably consider adding them. People proactively stating their distaste is for the better.

u/kopecm13 27m ago
How do we know that it was not intended for forever and only after immediate backlash from the community did they chnage their mind a released a statement like this?
Nothing wrong with pushing against awful mounts like that

1
u/Dubamatic 6h ago
Blizzard should just encrypt their shit so datamining isn't a fucking thing anymore
2
u/C3PD2 5h ago
You think if they could they wouldn't do that? File obfuscation or code virtualization is really hard when you have to allow people to download the files onto their own PCs.
Essentially you have to take a piece of your game code and translate that into some made up language and then create a third party virtual machine program that understands that language. Then when your computer wants to use that code it has to basically ask the virtual machine to interpret for it in real-time and tell the computer what to do. As you can imagine, this is not ideal for performance - instead of your computer reading the code and executing the functions immediately it now has to wait for the interpreter to tell it what to do, and virtual machines are not nearly as fast as your CPU so it becomes a huge performance bottleneck.
It sounds like Blizzard is using some creative obfuscation where files unlock themselves once they are "discovered" in the game world, so they've clearly made some technical progress with this, but it's a far cry from simply encrypting large chunks of their game so people can't data mine it.
It's a very complex technical problem that can't be boiled down to "they should just encrypt their shit".

Very good news if true. Even if this is damage control, I appreciate it as long as those mounts do not come to this game.

I really wish data mining would stop, or I could browse wow news and filter it out. It was interesting way back when but now it just fuels relentless negativity.

That’s too bad I had my 10 paragraph on why this offended me even though I’m not a classic Andy and how I’d still show up on Nov 4 even though it made me angry

They are doing damage control. You mean to tell me that there aren't enough spectralslop, turtle and chicken mounts in the game? Give me a break. These were meant for Forever and we rightfully sperged out so they are backpedaling.

u/IGargleGarlic 5h ago
because y'all were whining like children over something so trivial and you were wrong at the same time
0
u/b4k4ni 7h ago
Wow forever and retail seem to share a common data base of sorts. When the upgrade for forever was running, I couldn't start retail, as forever was blocking the files. That's also why forever is smaller to DL, if retail is installed. And it makes sense. I mean, the models were clearly made for retail.
1
u/SorrenXiri 7h ago
Yeah forever shares files with retail since it uses the same base for the graphics system and the addon API and such
