Announcement Hey everyone - we're opening mod applications! Apply today!

Apply here!

We're looking for new mods to help with the rapidly expanding community. Our personal lives have become busier while the amount of work to do here has increased.

A lot of our general information is within the application form, but here's a short rundown of what the job entails.

  • Checking modqueue on a regular basis to take action on posts that are filtered automatically or reported by the community.

  • Regularly browsing through the subreddit and moderation of posts and comments to ensure that all community rules and guidelines are being enforced, including removing uncivil, hostile and inflammatory content.

  • Being able to discuss issues with members of the community through modmail in a professional and calm manner.

  • Contributing to discussions about moderation-related issues over Discord.

Overall, the job won't necessarily take more than an hour or two of your time per week, and if you're already generally active on Reddit and Discord then you probably won't notice a difference.

It can be quite rewarding to be able to shape a community (for the better). If this sounds like something that interests you, please apply! If you have any questions, feel free to comment below or message us through modmail.

Discussion Need Help! After being hacked

Post image
2 Upvotes

After my bank account got hacked and was notified. My Gmail account notification alerted me about someone changing my password. So I quickly changed my passwords, signed out of all devices and updated new passwords, did a selfie recording, went into settings and managed my saved passwords and stuff.

I still see that in history, their device is still on my history log. Was wondering if the hacker is still possible using my account? Any help on this topic would be greatly appreciated.

(Not my device)

Discussion Best Chrome extension you actually use daily - what is it?

We all have a dozen extensions installed and forget half of them (or more). I'm more interested in the ones that actually survive.

What's the single Chrome extension you open or rely on every day, and what does it do for you?

Not your whole list. Just the ONE you'd reinstall first on a new laptop. Bonus points if it's something most people haven't heard of. Single use cases and niche extensions are really welcome as those could be truly interesting.

I'll start: uBlock Origin Lite.

Every page loads faster and cleaner, and I notice immediately when I'm on a machine without it.

Ok, now your turn...

Troubleshooting | Windows Google Chrome memory explodes when watching YouTube

I have a high end PC which is able to run games at very high fps with high resolution, as well as a very fast ethernet connection.

The only issue I have is chrome's memory usage exploding when I begin watching a YouTube video.

Note that at this time I only had one YouTube tab open (despite the (20) after YouTube).

Has anybody else had this issue before? Is this some sort of memory leak on YouTube's end? Any help in resolving the issue would be greatly appreciated.

Troubleshooting | Android Weird notification coming from Chrome itself

Hi everyone. I’d like to know if anyone has experienced something similar or has any idea what might be causing it.

My phone was idle and not being used. When I picked it up, I noticed a notification in the status bar that came directly from Google Chrome (I verified this in the system settings). The notification said something along the lines of “New app for you.” When I tapped it, it opened a webpage that was trying to imitate the Google Play Store and prompted me to download a casino app.

A few important details about my situation:

No websites have notification permissions enabled in Chrome’s settings.

Chrome does not have permission to install apps from unknown sources.

I never install apps from outside the official Google Play Store.

I regularly use Malwarebytes, and no malware has been detected on my device.

My phone was idle, with no apps open, when the notification appeared.

Does anyone know how Chrome itself could display this kind of notification without any website having notification permission? Is there another way a website or some other source could trigger a notification like this?

Edit: - A few hours prior, I was browsing some websites using Chrome's Incognito Mode, but I actively closed all tabs right after. - I checked Chrome's Site Settings > Notifications immediately after the alert appeared, and the allowed list was completely empty. - The page opened a fake URL delivering an APK, but I closed it instantly and did not download anything.

Troubleshooting | Mac Pinned tabs never sleep under Memory Saver. Any way to let them?

On a 36 GB MacBook with about 25 pinned tabs, Chrome uses about 280 MB per tab against about 80 MB in Safari for a similar set. Google's help says pinned tabs can block Memory Saver. Is there a flag or policy that lets an idle pinned tab be discarded, or a reason Chrome keeps them all alive? I would rather not add a third-party suspender extension. Current Chrome on macOS.

Discussion Anyway to find emails saved onto chrome?

I’m not talking about the passwords. Chrome saves emails so that when you barely type it in when entering an email onto a website, it will drop down a list of the emails. I’m trying to recover an old email that I used to use, but am unable to. I’m hoping that it’s somehow saved through this saved drop down list of emails for me to recover.

Troubleshooting | Solved Missing "Manage Windows" option FIX via chrome://flags. Should work for IOS and Android

Post image
5 Upvotes

Search for

> In-app window manager deprecation

In chrome://flags. And DISABLE it, enabling does nothing or makes it worse

I found a fix for the missing Manage Windows but also discovered my Inactive Tabs are now gone despite having disabled the option for Inactive Tabs to disappear after x amount of time spent Inactive.

That explains why the tabs I was searching for werent showing up. Because they were completely fucking closed. Those motherfuckers sabotaged months of progress on several projects across several windows. Go figure. Submit an update no one wants to get rid of a feature everyone was using, make people have to either deal with it or enable a chrome flag just to see all their windows are deleted. Thanks, dick 🖕🖕

Troubleshooting | Windows What is saving these autofill suggestions & how do I erase the memory?

When using Chrome, from time to time, I get these random autofill suggestions- I'm not sure if it is something in Windows saving past entries or something within Chrome. Clearing the history in Chrome doesn't fix it, is it a Windows autofill issue?

The suggestions it gives can sometime be related to that field but some are from completely different websites, if that info helps.

I appreciate any help!

Troubleshooting | Windows chrome browser is very laggy on YouTube

it's vey random, sometimes it's smooth as butter.. and sometimes very laggy (the animations and clicking on stuff are super delayed at least a 3 sec delay) on YouTube in particular in this case.

  1. it has nothing to do with extensions

  2. it will be smooth if i open a new "guest" chrome profile

  3. other tabs of youtube videos are smooth, and others are not.

  4. i tried restarting the computer, turning hardware acceleration, etc.. nothing fixed it for me so far

i'm kind of hesitant on switching to Microsoft Edge or a different browser at this point, it's butter smooth there so far too.

i don't want to reset settings or something like this because it will be a real hassle to replace all boomarks, cookie sessions, etc

if you experienced this, any help will be appreciated.

Discussion How to disable Yahoo on my labtop

Every time I update my Lenovo legion 6i my default browser seems to Yahoo even if I delete it before and afterward again. Typically I have to delete Yahoo and set my default browser back to Google Chrome each time. I'm not the most tech savvy so I'm not sure if I'm missing an easy solution or not. Any help is very appreciated 👍.

Troubleshooting | Linux How to override tab discards in 2026?

The Chrome/Chrome OS discard strategy is highly annoying. Will have only something like five tabs open and there is constant refreshing every ten minutes. Turning memory saver off doesn't work. Toggling "Is Discardable" / "Auto Discardable" doesn't work. Extensions focused on this problem no longer seem to work. There seems to be a wide gap in this department between two Duet models with similar amounts of memory and processing power; discarding seems particularly aggressive in one of these models (Duet CB 3).

It reminds me very much of Android's Doze Mode, which apparently thinks a smidge of battery life is worth sacrificing real-time background notifications that are the lifeblood of a mobile device. Google's nanny approach to its users to show some sort of marginal gain through automation is becoming more and more vexing and I don't imagine it will get better with the forced migration to Everything AI.

Rant done but tips appreciated on this specific aggravation.

Troubleshooting | Windows Terrible PC freezes when chrome is open or running

I’ve been trying to figure out the cause of my PC freezes for a while now, and after doing tons of tests, I think I have narrowed it down to definitely being a chrome issue. My PC never freezes until I open up chrome, but it’s not consistent, sometimes it crashes and sometimes it doesn’t.

I have removed every extension I have, and tried other things, to no fix. I really don’t want to switch to Edge or Opera or whatever, everything I do is on chrome, bookmarks, passwords, etc.

I am just looking for some recommendations of ways I can try to fix this, or if there are ways to migrate everything to a different browser so I don’t have to redo passwords and whatnot. Any fixes, suggestions, etc. would be greatly appreciated!
