Problematic Cat Owners There is no such thing as a "low maintenance" pet

People who want to "set and forget" a living thing under their care should have a houseplant, not a pet.

It irks me that so many people get cats because they see them as "low maintenance" when in reality they require a lot of care. You need to change their litter, clean up after them (often they vomit), vacuum cat hair, play with them, feed them, take them to the vet, etc. You can't just forget about them and only remember them when you want to pet something soft (and even if you do, they will probably bite and scratch you if you try).

So many cat people living in filth because they don't take proper care of their animal. Or they force other people to care for their cat by letting it roam outside onto other people's property and destroy it because they are lazy assholes who shouldn't be allowed to have a pet. And if cats aren't stimulated enough they can become destructive.

Relationship / Family / Roommates Partners Aggressive cat and I'm burned out

For the record I'm not obsessed with cats and liked them but now I'm really not liking them anymore

My partner has THREE (excessive in my opinion) but he loves them like children so whatever

The issue is the male has become increasingly aggressive towards me since I've become pregnant and it's to the point he just bites the heck out of me while I'm sleeping and attacks me all the time

Partner won't do a DAMN thing and just keeps saying "he's a cat"

Mind you the cat follows him around EVERYWHERE and sleeps next to my partner every single night and won't allow the girl cats to come near my partner anymore

This little shit has become a territorial menace and I want him gone because I'll be damned if the baby gets attacked because of a jealous animal

Partner acts like I'm an evil bitch because I don't care for his lil stalker

Like OF COURSE you don't care about the cat attacking me because he's OBSESSED with you because you're his property.

I'm over it man.

Relationship / Family / Roommates Feeling good for "tr@um4 tizing" my mother in-law's stupid cat

Context: That cat is entitled, spoiled and annoying as f.

My boyfriend picked it a year ago because it had an infection in its eyes and it was a kitten, so he felt sorry for it.

But my mother in-law (who I love and it's a good person actually) doesn't know how to raise her animals.

Some weeks ago, that cat wouldn't stop meowing, following me to try to reach and scratch my feet, and scratching the door frames when I got to my boyfriend's room.

So, when I decided that "enough is enough" I opened the door, got my sandal and b0 nk its head.

It wasn't a hard hit, but I scared it away.

Now, everytime it approaches me, I take off my sandal and the cat runs for its life 😂😂😂

My boyfriend laughed when I told him about this and a couple days ago, when he saw me took off my sandal to scare the cat, he laughed

He really wanted to give away that cat, but my mother in-law kept it...

Relationship / Family / Roommates I'm tired of this shit. Literally.

Sorry this is long but I feel at my wit's end. My husband's cat is constantly going outside of her litterbox. My husband adopted this cat about 12 years ago and they didn't know her exact age at the time; only estimated it to be ~2 years. So she's maybe around 14. She didn't have any issues for a very long time but around 6 years ago she started going occasionally outside the box. Both pee and poop.

I do not like cats and never wanted a cat but he got this cat before we were married while we were dating. I was against it but we were long distance at that point and he claimed he was lonely and wanted a pet. I mention this to explain why I've been relatively hands off. After marriage we established that this is his cat and his responsibility.

~10 years ago: when we first got married and I moved in I found that he only cleaned the litter once every 1.5 or 2 weeks. I approached him and told him this was not an acceptable level of care and I've been stepping in to clean it b/c that's disgusting and not fair to the cat. He started cleaning once every week.

8 y ago: I got her an enclosed, top entry box cause she made a mess everywhere while scattering. He's still only doing the bare minimum and not cleaning the scattered litter. He started slipping on cleaning once a week and it was still not enough so I told him to please do at the very least twice a week. I also had to tell him to switch out all the litter once in a while cause it got so bad the ammonia smell would sting your eyes when cleaning it. I'm still stepping in occasionally to clean cause he's so lazy about it.

6 y ago: cat starts peeing and pooping outside the box a bit. He doesn't notice it. I'm spending hours carpet cleaning. The cat urine smell just is not coming out of the carpet and is driving me nuts. We keep fighting about it but he doesn't change anything. I say I'm 100% done cleaning litterbox at all.

For the next 3 years or so this state of things continues until I lose it and tell him I just cannot clean up after this cat anymore. It's HIS responsibility and HE needs to clean them up. He gets better about cleaning up the messes but he just "doesn't see them". And I believe him. He really doesn't fking see it. This man can be staring at the fridge and ask me where the butter is and it's literally right in front of him. He's so blind about everything. So many times I'll tell him "the cat shit in the living room".... only to hear a couple minutes later "where?" At which point I have to go point it out to him.

There was one esp egregious time when I stood 6 ft away from the cat shit on the carpet and gestured towards it to point it out to him. He still didn't see it. I cannot believe how fking blind he is. How do you even fix that? Not to mention the harder to spot pee spots. He's hopeless at seeing those. And no, this isn't a vision issue. He can read things further away than I can. I don't even know how it's possible to be his level of blind. Ugh!

1 y ago: I told him if I don't see him making a genuine effort to clean up after this cat, we are getting rid of her. I am at a breaking point with this whole "not seeing it" shit and he's clearly slipping on cleaning the box, and not thoroughly checking for accidents. He's not trying hard enough. So if he doesn't step the fk up, this cat is gone. I'm crying saying this to him b/c I may not like cats in particular but I am an animal lover. I never want to be one of those people who take on the responsibility of caring for an animal and then casting it aside. Besides, this cat is not that bad for a cat, all things considered. She doesn't yowl, doesn't randomly bite or scratch, doesn't destroy furniture, doesn't bother you constantly for attn. It's JUST the pee and poop thing. She still uses the box, it's just SOME of the time she goes outside.

But I'm so worn thin at this point. After that talk he now cleans the litter box every day and we got a second box. She stops peeing outside the box as much but now is increasing the pooping. She's pooping outside the box multiple times a day now. My husband has not gotten lazy about cleaning since the talk. I still have to point out spots to him but I've long since accepted his blindness.

But now the poop is so ubiquitous it's driving me nuts. I was vacuuming and nudged aside a bag on the floor with the vacuum. Surprise, there was cat shit behind it. Vacuum got shit all over the motorhead. Today I was picking up some fallen leaves from my potted plant and surprise! Cat shit amongst the leaves that blended in so I got cat shit on my hands.

I think the biggest thing that makes me angry at this point is that he doesn't try to seek out solutions. Doesn't research why, or how to prevent, or anything. He just cleans up the mess after the fact and has no thought towards fixing the problem.

I feel so done with this cat. Yet I feel sorry for it to kick it out and blame my husband for making me feel this way. Idk what to do at this point. We've fought so much about this cat...

Problematic Cat Owners Owners mocked and abused by their cats

What do you think about this? I think they like being abused by a smaller being as they themselves are abusers in human environments.
