As the reservation agreement available online says:

"You understand that Roadster is still under development at the time you entered into this Agreement and so we cannot guarantee when your vehicle will actually be delivered or if it will be delivered ... The estimated Purchase Price of the vehicle, if provided, is only an estimate. We are still working on what options, features and hardware the vehicle will have and so cannot confirm the exact price just yet."

video Hagerty - The FLYING Tesla Roadster explained by the man who engineered it

https://youtu.be/22rvpUecLts?is=Dav-zfQoXrHlgXQP

Henry Catchpole sits down with Tesla’s VP of Vehicle Engineering, Lars Moravy, to talk about how it all works, what’s changed over the years, and how technology from Optimus and SpaceX helped make it possible.

Design: It’s now a two-seat supercar with a sleek, wedge-shaped design, pop-down headlights, and some really cool moving body panels.

Power: All three versions have over 1,341 horsepower and 1,400 Nm of torque, with power going to the rear wheels.

Performance model: Adds fans and skirts to create more downforce, helping the car stay planted on the road, even at low speeds.

Thrust version: Uses four nitrogen-powered thrusters to go from 0 to 60 mph in a claimed 0.85 seconds.
Rocket version: Adds six more thrusters and another nitrogen tank. This is the version that can actually lift off the ground, with a claimed 0–60 mph time of just 0.55 seconds.

More details: The video also covers the battery, tires, robotic actuators, and the futuristic steering yoke.

Thrust Version of the Tesla Roadster Not Coming Anytime Soon

I'm gonna just ignore the Rocket flying version. It's obviously an incredible feat of engineering. I'll never end up in an actual customer's hands doing what it did last night. So let's focus on the one just below it, the Thrusts

It has the 4 thrustsrs in the back and can accelerate to 60mph in .81 SEC. They use cold nitrogen for the gas, stored in a carbon fiber tank at 10,000psi. It holds enough for about a single 3 sec burst and that's it. Needs to be refilled, but Tesla says they haven't figured the infrastructure or logistics on that. Doesn't sound to me like you can just buy a consumer grade air compressor to extract and store the vast amount of nitrogen you will need to have fun.

And watching the Motor Trend video, there's still SO MUCH more development they need done before they can build even the "base" model.

Factory-installed Rear Privacy Glass, the strangest of all US vehicle rules

Ever notice that you never see new sedans or hatchbacks for sale with factory-installed rear privacy glass (tinted windows).

This is because of a definition created in the late 1960s that defines Multipurpose Passenger Vehicles (MPVs).

As long as the vehicle isn't sold as a traditional car, it qualifies as MPV.

And NHTSA "safety" rules state that rear privacy glass is not allowed for traditional cars.

So 82% of vehicles sold in the USA are "safe" for factory-installed rear privacy glass because of the MPV definition, while 18% are not, simply because they aren't sold with SUV branding. 😵
