A few months after I leased a new 2025 Volvo EC40 from Carling Motors in Ottawa, it suddenly suffered a serious propulsion-system failure and left me stranded.
The dealership kept it for 43 days, returned it, and another fault appeared five days later. That became a long series of recurring issues, charging failures, mechanical noises, unsuccessful repairs, and unresolved safety concerns. My vehicle has now spent more than 300 days at the dealership.
But the lease payments never stopped. Neither did the insurance, fuel costs for the gas-powered loaner, or disruption to my family. My documented losses and costs tied to this ordeal now exceed $31,000.
I tried to resolve it through the dealership, Volvo Car Canada, its financing company, regulators, and elected representatives. Eventually, I had to file a lawsuit to seek a resolution that would not force me to absorb the loss. Carling Motors responded with a counterclaim for use of their loaner, despite acknowledging in writing that issues with my vehicle remain undiagnosed and unrepaired.
Here's why every Ontario driver should care: our province has no automatic remedy when a new vehicle repeatedly fails or spends months in warranty service. There is no point at which the manufacturer must finally provide a refund, replacement, or financially complete lease termination. The consumer can be forced to keep paying, risk their credit, or else have to finance their own lawsuit against a multinational automaker.
The proposed Bill 91, Right to Repair Act, 2025, recognizes the problem, but its current version still leaves consumers going to court and does not clearly reimburse lessees for all their losses.
I created the 30 Days Is Enough petition asking Ontario to guarantee:
Dealerships and manufacturers should not be able to drag out repairs indefinitely while consumers are forced to pay.
If you agree, please take a minute to sign and share my petition:
https://www.change.org/30DaysIsEnough
Three hundred days is absurd. Thirty days is enough.

Backstory: I work in construction and my company is kicking PMs/office folks out of company trucks at the end of the year, so I need to find something for myself. Currently drive a company owned 2021 Colorado Z71 with 105,000 miles that's given me a bunch of issues over the past year.
When I get off the company truck I am receiving a monthly allowance that should cover any payments for anything I buy under ~$55k and will get to keep my fuel card that will pretty much pay for all gas.
Just looking for the most reliable truck with 4wd under $55k that has low mileage. I drive about 25k miles a year, mostly highway but our sites can be pretty muddy so I need something with 4wd. I don't have a boat/camper/etc, and only haul small trailers a couple times a year for work. I like the room in a full size but don't absolutely need one, and gas mileage doesn't really matter to me too much since my company will cover gas. Thoughts?

I will try to truncate a very long story. I own a 2019 Hyundai ELANTRA. In 2021, two years into ownership, the paint started to chip and the door jam of the driver side door. This was clearly a factory defect and not due to damage. Hyundai covered it under warranty about a year later another chip developed on the roof right on the edge behind the windshield. This time when I took it to Hyundai they claimed that it was damage. This was absolute nonsense. I was angry, and hoped that it was just another fluke. Fast-forward about five years and I have progressively gotten more and more paint chipping all over the hood of the car and the bumper. After a huge chipping patch recently broke out on my hood, I decided enough was enough and that I was going to make an official complaint and see what Hyundai would do. After about six months of back-and-forth, driving to dealerships, being handed off to someone else, speaking endlessly with Hyundai customer care, they have just finally given me an answer of NO. I cannot tell you how much time and energy I spent going to different dealerships, being passed off to someone else, and often being treated rudely to boot. The final insult is that they said one of the reasons for not honoring a goodwill repair IS BECAUSE I HAVE TOUCHED UP THE CAR ON MY OWN. Yes, because I attempted to fix their shitty paint flaking off all over the place, which cost me considerable time, energy, and stress, that is a reason to not honor a goodwill claim. This makes absolutely no sense as the end is insulting and infuriating. So because I touched up the paint on my own that disqualifies me from a soodwill repair? Absolute and utter nonsense.
Look around and the Internet and you’ll see that I’m clearly not the only one with paint issues, but the whole thrust of my argument was because there was clearly a factory defect in the paint from the start, which they HAD covered under warranty, that they would see that it was only fair and right that they repair AT LEAST my hood, which is, quite frankly, embarrassing to me, and should be to Hyundai. But no, they weaseled their way out of it. Apparently Hyundai cares more to save a few thousand dollars, than they do my customer satisfaction.
Do yourself a favor and do not buy a Hyundai.

Hi all, I recently sold my old car and was looking for a used one in the $4,000-$12,000 range. I was originally looking at a VW Bus as I always wanted one however I discovered they wouldn't be good as a daily driver for someone who does a lot of long distance driving. Is there any cars that y'all would recommend as a reliable daily driver that gets a decent MPG (at least around 18MPG average), has enough space for someone to camp in, and has some of that charm that older vehicles have. It'd be an addition if it has a bench seat. Thank you for reading and let me know if you have any suggestions!

Just signed the lease for a 2026 Honda prologue elite. Got an a 15k discount off MSRP w charging included and so the final price was 39k, leasing at 420 a month for 36 months 12k miles. The residual at the end of the 3 years is also 23l. I think for any car yet alone a low maintenance EV, this was a pretty solid deal. Thoughts?

Hi everyone, just looking for some general advice. My partner and I are currently looking at changing the car. We have a 1.4 tsi golf at the moment but it's obviously not very economical for the driving we're (she) is doing. I have a company vehicle which is no problem but she drives from the country side about 3-4 times a week for work (65km round trip roughly) Just wondering what other people have done in this situation when changing car? We're keeping our options completely open but we are keeping the future in mind (family and that). The roads we would use every day aren't in the greatest of shape as well. Thanks again!

My 2013 Nissan Murano is starting to die on me, so we are looking at getting a cheaper run around car until my husband's pickup is paid off. Wanting to stay around $20-$25k. Looking at Nissan Rogue, Subaru Forester, Hyundai Kona, Mazda CX5, Subaru Ascent, Buick Envision and Subaru Outback. I drive 30 miles to and from work daily and have 2 small children so reliability and a comfortable drive/good handling is important. Thanks!!

With Highlanders so expensive, I decided fuck it, I'll test drive a Pathfinder. And I was absolutely blown away by what I saw. Blown away in the sense that I had a certain idea in my head of what a Nissan should be like, and my expectations were exceeded in every way. Obviously I've seen the new body styles driving around, but I was so impressed by the interior, and just how... quality everything felt inside. And the way it drove felt extremely high-quality for the price point. I'm actually considering buying one now, especially with my local dealer offering a 0% incentive right now.
But Nissan just has... Such a bad reputation. I understand the new Pathfinders lack the infamous X-tronic CVT transmission. And they told me all about how Nissan basically went back to the drawing board with most their models in 2021 which is why I may not recognize it hardly at all.
Am I deluding myself into potentially wanting to buy a Nissan? Is Nissan... good now? Am I missing something or did they pull a LaGuardia Airport and totally reinvent themselves from something awful to something great?
If there's something I'm missing that would make me regret this purchase, I'm all ears. I would only purchase an SUV from them, their sedans look like total crap to me still.

Hi,
I bought a used oem arm rest to replace my destroyed one . My interior is black but the arm rest is grey. I thought it would be easy to just dye it but I realize it’s not lol. Any advice ?

Im thinking about buying a Toyota echo that a friend is selling to me with 52k miles for 5k. Is this a good buy? The vehicle is pretty much mint and he says there’s no problems it’s also a manual so I’m guessing less transmission problems. My goal is to get rid of my car payment and use this as my daily. Thoughts ?

Seeing mixed stuff online. For people here who drive one daily, what’s the most annoying thing about charging that nobody warns you about?

Hope this isn’t against the rules here but had to share! Always good to defy some stereotypes.
Apparently this era stops counting at 1M km or 621k miles, so we have no clue how far this 30-yr-old bmw has actually traveled
I’ve driven BMWs from this era since they were new and they’ve always been stout.

It drove extremely smooth, engine sounded nice and quiet, I don’t know much about cars but seems like it was well maintained just from test driving it. With it being a 2019 with that mileage I assume it’s mostly highway miles? I hear that it’s a pretty reliable car, especially compared to the 2016 chevy trax or 2014 gmc terrain i was looking at which both had around 130,000 miles. Is this a good idea? Is there anything I should look out for?

Hi everyone,
planning to buy a Maruti Suzuki Brezza, but I'm confused between the VXi Turbo and the VXi NA variant.
Note: The only thing why I considered Turbo is cost less .
My usage:
- Living in chennai
- Family of 3 (me, my wife, and our 2-year-old toddler)
- Around 700 km/month on highways (trip to my native)
- Around 300 km/month in Chennai city (mixed moving and bumper-to-bumper traffic)
- Total annual running: 10,000 km .70% in highways 30% city
- I usually keep my cars for 10 years OR 1 lakh km
From my research, I found:
- Both engines seem reliable enough to cross 1 lakh km with proper maintenance.
Real-world mileage appears to be roughly:
City: Turbo ~10 km/L, NA ~13 km/L
Highway: Turbo ~17 km/L, NA ~19 km/L
My confusion is this:
The VXi Turbo is approximately ₹10.4 lakh on-road, while the VXi NA costs around ₹11.25 lakh. With an alloy-wheel upgrade costing approximately ₹40,000, the NA would come to about ₹11.65 lakh. SO EXTRA 1.2Lakh for NA even I won't get mirror fold and reverse camera.
At the same time, the ZXi Turbo is available at around ₹11.95 lakh on-road.
However, I'm someone who values:
- Long-term reliability
- Low maintenance costs
- Peace of mind
- Good fuel economy
A few questions to owners:
1.If you were planning to keep the car for 10 years / 1 lakh km, which engine would you choose?
2.Is the real-world maintenance cost of the Turbo significantly higher than the NA?
3.Does the mileage difference make a noticeable impact on ownership cost over 1 lakh km?
4.Since my car may remain parked for 4–5 days a week and is mostly used on weekends plus one highway trip every month, is that usage pattern perfectly fine for the turbo engine?
5.Based on these prices, would you choose the VXi Turbo, the VXi NA with alloy wheels, or stretch to the ZXi Turbo?
Thanks in advance!
