News Luggage taken from doorstep, Whitlam, 10am today

Hi all,

At around 10am this morning, I left my luggage outside my front door at Whitlam, while my girlfriend and I went to get the car from the car park. By the time we drove back, it was gone. It looks like it was picked up by an older lady, who may have thought we'd left it out for anyone to take.

Inside was everything I'd packed to take back to China, which I was about to fly to from Sydney. That included supplements for about eight people: fish oil, vitamins, and menopause medication for my mum and her female colleagues.

This also comes less than a month after two strangers broke into our home one morning.

On the bright side, airport security is going to be a breeze. And somewhere in Whitlam, a lady I've never met is now stocked up on supplements for the foreseeable future. I genuinely wish her good health. She's now getting better care than my own mum.

The police have been notified.

SEC=UNCLASSIFIED Canberra social scene?

Hi All,

I'm likely moving to Canberra in the next 12 months for Uni, and I'm wondering what the social scene of Canberra is? Does the city have much of a night-life? I'm moving from Brisbane, so a fear for me is that there will be nothing to do, but I'm sure there is plenty of interesting things that I am not yet aware of!

Thanks in advance!

Recommendations Best way to give away good furniture in Canberra?

• Upvotes

Looking for recommendations for how to reasonably quickly give away furniture (Ikea, but im really good condition, and a 2BR apartment's worth) in Canberra - the difficulty is I have no means to actually take it anywhere myself. I would need to rely on people coming to me to pick it up. I'm trying to avoid paying for removalists and I don't need the furniture any more.

Dad taking three teens for a long weekend away. List so far, Thursday arvo - Questacon. Friday - War Memorial, maybe Parliament House "best of" tour. Deep Space Saturday. Daughter insisted National Dinosaur Museum, prolly Saturday. Can't do Black Mountain yet? Is there any charcoal spit / Spanish food? I've missed car shows last weekend, anything other than the Hillclimb on this weekend? Good burger places?

Recommendations Bulk Rock Salt for sale and local pick up?

I'm looking for 10kg bags of rock salt for a craft project - something like the Saxa or Olsson's brands - but having trouble finding any local suppliers and I'd prefer to avoid freight costs if possible.

It's not for consumption or bathing/cleaning purposes, so if there are any non-food grade options, I could consider them. Just needs to be white salt in crystal/rock form, not fine or flakes.

Can anyone recommend a supplier? I do have an ABN so can use wholesale only or hospitality supply companies. The only place I've found is Superior Foods with a location in Fyshwick, however their website seems fairly broken and won't let me choose that location as an option (and the Google reviews are few but terrible).

Anywhere in ACT or close to the border either side would be fine. Cheers!
