PSA: Bolt owners with bumper-to-bumper warranty still active. Get your vehicles in if you have any of these problems.

TSB 23-NA-041 – Clicking/ticking when turning left or right → Steering column support/steering rack issue

TSB 24-NA-034 – “Grunt”/clunk noise at low speeds (OPD / ACC) → Documented ABS behavior (more of an FYI, GM calls it normal, no repair needed)

TSB 24-NA-108 - if you have trouble connecting to Apple CarPlay/Android Auto. Its also a good idea to keep the software updated anyway.

TSB 22-NA-004 - Rear spoiler foam tape seal loose, visible to customer

TSB 22-NA-024 - Vibration, Hum or Drone Noise Heard from Front of Vehicle While Driving at Highway Speeds

Front bumper fascia not aligned - Can't find a TSB or reddit post on this one but its a common factory defect on alot of 22-23 Bolt's.

Rear seal gap in trunk - Can't find a TSB on this one but there are plenty of reddit posts. Most dealers won't do anything, but some may try to reclip it.

EUV: do you all have this huge gap above the rear bumper?

2023 Bolt EUV factory assembly defect?

Just bought a Bolt EUV 3 days ago. Is this gap near between the rear bumper and the rest of the car normal???

Creaking Noise on Acceleration and sometimes on Deceleration - Many reddit posts. No TSB on this one but this is a common repair for most EVs due to the instant torque, increased weight from battery, and exposure to bumps/potholes in the road. It has to do with the control arms/bushings/swaybar end links. Also, very expensive to repair, up to $3-5K. I'd get this done under warranty if you can.

Creaking Noise Going Over Bumps

Creaking sound when coming to full stop and accelerating out of it

https://www.chevybolt.org/threads/recall-notice-for-korean-bolt-ev-issued-stabilizer-link-noise.29965/

Knocking sound coming from rear - appears to be the seat frame latch. Some dealers may replace the latch or the entire seat.

Back seat latch rattling while driving. Has anyone else had this issue? Mainly occurs on bumps. Definitely has to do with the seat latch, but can't figure out how to fix it or even dismantle.

What's is that noise

Knocking, backseat, right hand side. Bolt EUV 2023

For those with rattles from the rear passenger side, try wrapping the rear seat latch with silicone tape. It was driving me absolutely bonkers until this trick silenced it.

Door Trim Panel Makes Squeaking Sound - Any door. Likely from pushing against it and repeated open/close. It can be replicated by giving it a good shake and if it squeaks, it can potentially be covered under warranty. Not a common problem.

Hope the above helps! It'll save you a pretty penny down the road.

Screens briefly turning black

Hey, I've had my 2027 Bolt RS for about 7 months now, and I just ran into an issue I hadn't seen before and was wondering if anyone had any details. A couple minutes after I started driving both my infotainment system and digital gauge went black. The podcast I was listening still played (and the physical volume button still worked), but nothing on either screen it came back after a minute. On my way back home (I was stopped for only a couple minutes) it happened again.

Anybody run into this issue? Even though it's temporary, it's a bit disconcerting not being able to see speed or anything like that.

Thanks!

What comes after the Bolt?

I’ve had my 2019 Bolt Premier for the last few years and I do love it, but there are times that the size is a little bit of a challenge, with three kids. It’s my daily, and my wife has a Blazer EV for family trips but I wouldn’t mind something a little bigger; AWD wouldn’t suck as well. Anyone moved into a different EV from the Bolt that they like? Not looking at new, would need to be preowned. I have considered the Ioniq 5 but want to hear what’s out there. I’d love to have faster charging too.

Does anyone know if setting the heat around 70-75 saves battery?

I’ve never used heat before. Got 2019 in April. Just curious. I know the battery itself will use heat so that will drain it regardless but just curious for the cabin at all of it makes any difference keeping it somewhat warm inside vs like 80 or so.

Check Brakes if Seeing Reduced Range

2017 Bolt LT with 121k miles. Noticed substantially reduced range over the past 6 months, to the point it got down to 150 miles max in optimal conditions. Replacement battery from 2021’ish is under warranty and was planning to take it in, but then I noticed a slight grinding noise in the front end. The front brake rotors were completely rusted and had deep grooves, and the calipers were stiff. I replaced calipers, pads (pads still had plenty of service life left), and rotors on both sides yesterday and the range is now increasing each time I drive it, almost back to 300+ miles when not on highways. The replaced items were the original factory components. Reduced/non-use due to regen and one-pedal driving means they rust before they wear.

Edit: Parts were around $400 for front and rear pads and rotors, along with the front calipers. Self-performed the install so $0 labor.

HELP! Found dead baby mice in air cabin filter.

We removed them, plus the nest that was behind that. Looked clean, nothing in the blower motor. Put in new air filters - the air that comes through the vents smells clean. Car still smells like dead animal. Took to dealer for thorough inspection, and they found nothing further. However, we did see mouse poop under BOTH front seats. Next step would be to have them take those out and really hunt for a dead mouse. My question is could the smell just be lingering from the dead baby mice, and will it subside on its own? Or is there some other dead mouse somewhere. Argh!

Cabin air filter replacement

I changed cabin air filters on many cars. But the Bolt EUV stumped me. It's not easy to disengage the piston strut. I ended up opening the piston. I put it back. But not able to put the strut back on the pin. Why chevy made it so difficult 😫

Original Post: https://www.reddit.com/r/BoltEV/comments/1wnojc1/2020_bolt_battery_fault_finally_come_haunting_my/

My last update from the old post was on 9/30/2026. I finally got off the phone with GM today, and I have some incredible news to share.

TL;DR: The Battery Energy Control Module (BECM) IS covered under the 8-year/100,000-mile warranty tier according to GM Service Bulletin 22-NA-119 (Labor Operation Code 5031010)

Here is the link to the official bulletin for anyone fighting the same battle:
https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2023/MC-10248727-0001.pdf

The Timeline of the Escalation:

9/30/2026 — Called the front-line EV Concierge line and hit a brick wall. Got zero help. Out of options, I decided to email Mary Barra directly ([mary.barra@gm.com](mailto:mary.barra@gm.com)) as a last resort to explain my situation.

10/1 — I received a call from Eric with the GM Executive Resolution Team. He stated they received my executive escalation and were stepping in to assist. I laid out the whole technical story, gave him the part number, and referenced the 2020 Limited Warranty Booklet. He opened an investigation.

10/6 — Second call from Eric. He confirmed the physical recall battery pack itself was fully active, but the warranty center was still stonewalling him on the separate control module.

10/8 — Third call from Eric. He noted that the dealership's service department had a "hunch" that an internal database part-name update was triggering an automated system rejection. He was still investigating the exact layout wording on page 14 of the 2020 booklet.

10/9 — Fourth call. Eric told me the warranty center rejected the claim again. They argued that because page 14 listed "hybrid powertrain and battery control modules," the word "hybrid" excluded pure BEVs like the Bolt.

Right after that call, I pulled up the booklet and sent Eric an email response:

The parent heading is "Drive Motor Battery Coverage," which explicitly states it governs both Electric and Hybrid vehicle lines. The third column ("Other Electric/Hybrid Components") uses the word AND, meaning it applies to both architectures universally. I also pointed out that on page 24 (Emission Warranty Parts List), the "Battery Control Module" is explicitly listed with a double asterisk, legally protecting it under an 8-year statutory emissions mandate. Lastly I attached GM Service Bulletin 22-NA-119. The bulletin explicitly states the refreshed 8-year warranty applies to both lithium-ion batteries and lithium-ion battery components installed under the safety recall

Today, I received my fifth call from Eric. He officially confirmed that after reviewing the documentation, GM has fully approved the warranty claim for a $0.00 repair based on the service bulletin. The replacement battery assembly arrived at the shop today, and the specific BECM module is expected to arrive in a week or two. Eric will continue with a follow up every 3 days,

Charging Apps

Post image

this post is going to be pretty simple, what are everyone’s favorite charging applications? Who here still uses PlugShare for example?

I think my top two favorites are ChargePoint for level two and DC fast charging while PlugShare is probably my go to for finding chargers in the first place.

Are there better apps to actually find chargers? if you guys don’t use PlugShare, what do you use?

Question for tall people who own a 2027 Bolt

I am currently looking for a car for my son, who will be 16 soon. I have a great relationship with the local Chevy dealership and I am thinking of taking advantage of the lease promotions to get my son a decent, smaller car to learn on (and one I could do quick errands with.) It would mostly be for him to learn in something that's not a boat and for him to drive when he has his full license (so he doesn't borrow my car in case I need it). My current car is a much larger 25 Traverse. I like the idea of the Bolt because I don't want to have another car I need to put gas in.

The issue is, my son is a giant already at 6'5" and I am wondering if there are any comparably tall people who drive one or have test drove one who could chime in on how you fit. I don't want to pay more for an Equinox or Blazer EV for him, the Bolt is pricey enough. I am trying to decide between the Trax, the Trailblazer and the Bolt. The Bolt is my first choice. It want it to be a surprise, ideally, but even if he comes to pick one it would be nice to know if it stays a comfortable drive for giant people.

Edit: I am probably going to go with the Bolt. I have read the comments and they seem fairly positive. I talked with the saleswoman and the F&I manager who sold me my Traverse last year and they both say it should work out great financially with the lease promotion going on. They are also conveniently having a customer appreciation day next weekend, so I plan to take my son with me with the promise if free food haha. I can get him to try out the Bolt without telling him my plan, so I can see firsthand how he fits. If it all seems good, then we may join you guys in Bolt ownership.

My car seems BRICKED!

Took an 8 day vacation, half expected 12V issues on my return (12V is 3+ Y.O.) Big battery showed full and the car was plugged in for the entire vacation. Upon return, it showed all the signs of 12V battery failure. I disconnected and trickle charged, no help. I replaced the battery and now can not reset the faults. I was able when I changed the 12V years ago. Hazard lights are on and I can not control them off. Big battery is showing zero range. Hard 30 minute reset doesn't change either.

My fuel savings are greater than my Bolt payment

My daily driver for four plus years has been a 2020 Ford Expedition, not ideal for a daily commute but it fits the family. I was able to work a hybrid work schedule during the summer and was only in office two days a week, so the fuel bill wasn't as bad as it could have been, but a couple of weeks into September, I had to go back to the office full time, and I started doing the math on my $110/week gas bill and figured I could buy and EV for less than my fuel bill. Once the math has been mathed, I could not stop thinking about it. Shortly thereafter, I bought my 2017 Bolt with 58k miles.

After one month of driving, the fuel savings are indeed greater than my monthly car payment. I really enjoy driving it and didn't realize how much anxiety I had with worrying about gas prices. I also don't have to worry as much about having to replace my Expedition as wear and tear on it will be far less.

Just happy to be here!

Another "Conditions Not Right To Shift"

2023 Bolt 2LT. Long story short: Currently the car is a dealer's repair department.

Car won't turn start, it gets the "Conditions Not Right To Shift" message. We did the following:

  • Walk key fob away from car and retry to start over 15 minutes later. Nope.
  • Disconnect the 12V battery for 15 minutes, reconnect. Nope.
  • I tested the 12V battery. It is 2.5 years old, but measures 12+ volts
  • Tried a method that worked for someone here in an older post: put car in neutral, turn off. When car doesn't turn off, put it in Park and turn it off. Restart. Nope.

We had the car towed to a dealer. Their message was they were going to check the switch under the brake pedal. If there was no obvious user caused damage, whatever that could be, then it could be repaired under warranty. If warranty did not apply (user caused?), then $330. However, he did not indicate that this was the source of the problem, just what he would look at.

I'd appreciate any input people have about this.

Edit: Car will be at the dealer over the weekend. Service department is closed on Saturday & Sunday. While we OK'ed the work, nothing was done as it wasn't first in the queue.

~58kwh of useable battery capacity on a '22 EUV with 110,000 miles

Just an FYI as I haven't seen a post on this recently, though I may have missed them. I decided to do a rough calculation of useable battery capacity, and used 50.1 kwh to take my battery down to 14%. I've seen different numbers as far as original capacity goes, but overall pleased with the degradation of the traction battery.

A Squirrel tried to get inside my car while I was charging.

The only time a squirrel will approach a human is if it is being offered food, and even then it is very ,very cautious.

Well, today, while I was charging my car a squirrel appeared out of nowhere and rushed my car. It jumped on my hood and roof, and then came around on my front window like it was trying to get inside. I honked the horn to scare it away, but then it came right back 3 minutes later. It was beyond frantic, but I don’t think it was was rabid. It appeared to me like it was desperately searching for food.

And then it hit me

I think when the car is charging the high voltage wires get hot, which heats up the wiring insulation, and lets off a smell that attracts them. To my understanding, the wire insulation is soy based, which smells like peanuts or tree nuts when heated or roasted.

He was literally trying to get inside my car through the god damn charge port!

The '27 Bolt is Great but Insight Needed for L1 Charger Battery Conditioning

I'm really, really enjoying my 2027 Bolt LT. It's not perfect, but it's a great commuter and I see what all the buzz (pardon the dad pun) is about with EVs. That said, I'm trying to figure out the best way to accomplish my charging and battery maintenance. I think part of my issue might be due to the difference between the Charge Scheduling and the Next Charge features. I am in the process of reading the manual, but I'm hoping some of you might be able to help lend any experience or insights you might have.

I have L2 charging set up at home using the charger that came with the Bolt. My home is the the primary charging location as set up in the car and the app. Primarily, I use it to drive from there to my place of work, where I have the option to plug it in with a cheap L1 charger I purchased recently. Because I don't drive very much, I typically plug it in at home on L2 on Sunday evening, using the Charge Scheduling so it charges off peak, and is ready to go for the coming work week.

Over the winter, I'll be occasionally parking the Bolt inside our warehouse and have outlets to use the L1 charger, I also have some on a parking pad next to the building to use. Since this is in North Dakota, the warehouse can get as cold as 35-40°F and outside can hit the lower limits of the L1 charger module, -22°F. My goal is to reduce the need for the car to draw from the battery pack for battery temperature maintenance during the colder months.

Anyway, I wanted to test the charger to make sure it works fine with the Bolt, which it does, because it immediately tried to charge despite my schedule. That might be related to the Next Charge and schedule discrepancy I mentioned. So I stopped the charge but kept it plugged in while it was in my 55°F degree garage just to see if it'd help mitigate battery maintenance usage. I don't think it was drawing anything, though, because the light on the charger didn't change after I stopped the charge and the range of the Bolt actually decreased 2 miles overnight, although I woke it up a few times with the app to check if plugging it in was making a difference.

I'm trying to figure out if I'm doing something wrong, or if I'm not fully understanding how this system works. I don't think it's necessary to have the battery do a full L1 charge while at work, I just want it to draw for battery conditioning, although I'm sure the LFP can tolerate the cycling. Hopefully my wall of text makes sense. Again, this is a great car, and I'm just trying to do what I can to take care of it.

Winter undercoating

Does anyone have input on undercoating their bolt? Mine's 4 years old, living in the salt belt and being parked outside I've been thinking of having it treated with Fluid Film or the like. Any input is appreciated!
