Is a Bolt a good first EV?

I’m wanting to buy a EV, and I’m very interested in the Bolt. What are some things to know, any models to avoid?

Are no rear vents a deal breaker for anyone?

• Upvotes

I am coming off a 2025 Blazer EV lease soon and am considering purchasing a 2027 Bolt. I have two kids in car seats, one forward and one rear facing. I also live in a pretty hot climate. Does anyone have a similar experience they can share?

Tire Pressure—-

Post image
6 Upvotes

Good Morning All,

I drove all the way to work, 23 miles from home. Just as I am driving into the parking lot. Tire pressure monitoring system show up. I had never seen this before. I had a flat couple months ago. So I checked the pressure and it’s at 36 psi, filled it to 39 psi. But this error still there, should I bring my car to the shop to get it check out? I did not see any nails or anything and tire is holding pressure. Thanks 🙏

First Ev car

Hello, I'm a college undergrad, and I'm considering buying a used 2023 Bolt LT that a dealership is selling for $16k. I'm wondering whether I should buy it since I commute 90 miles for work and school each day, 5 days a week. Or should I buy it second-hand on OfferUp or fb marketplace for cheaper? Also, I was wondering if any Bolt owners here can tell me whether charging takes long and how reliable it is, since my dad doubts the car will last 5 years because it's a Chevy. Do you guys recommend I just buy the newer 2027 Bolt LT since it has a bigger battery and charges faster, since I drive to the Bay Area from SoCal once every couple of months to visit my friends? I just wanted to ask since I have always had a gas car and have never owned an EV before. Thank you

Has the bolt EUV (or EV) given anyone problems when it comes to fitting 2 small children AND a car seat in the back?

Looking to buy another ev. I came from having the Bolt EV and heard the EUV might be a bit bigger. I've got a 6 year old, 8 year old, and a baby in a car seat. Anyone have any problems?

If it matters, both bigger kids are pretty small

After almost 6 years and 80k miles - I'm saying goodbye to my Bolt on Saturday

• Upvotes

As the title says, I've found myself the past year or so needing to take longer road trips and as much as I love my little Oasis Blue jelly bean, I just can't deal with the slow DC charging anymore. It's time to move to an EV with faster charging.

Additionally, I'm also in a very different (better) financial position than I was six years ago when I bought the Bolt, so I'm ready to be behind the wheel of something just a little bit better put together.

On Saturday I'll be dropping off my jelly bean and coming home in a 2024 BMW i4 xDrive40, fully optioned with almost every package, and sitting at 14k miles.

I have loved my Bolt dearly but I'm super excited for this next chapter!

Goodbye to my favorite car I ever owned, plus question on the Blazer EV.

I found out my Bolt is a total loss. Not my fault someone turned right in front of me on a busy highway. I’m okay no serious injuries. I had only owned it for 5 months but I sure did like it. My daily commute is 100 miles so I was saving like $300 a month on gas. But the car itself was just so great for commuting. My one fear was how it would handle the winter, I never had a chance to test it. Now I have a chance to upgrade, would the AWD Chevy Blazer EV be a better option for me? I live in Northern Utah so I will inevitably drive in the snow.

Does anyone in this group have the Blazer EV? Is it basically a Bolt but a bit bigger with AWD? Are the Blazers having the longevity that we are seeing with the Bolts?

The other option I am looking at is a Polestar 2. But there is a lot of risk getting into one of those. It sure was fun to drive and came fully loaded for about $5k less than I’m seeing for used low mileage Blazers.

Bolt 2027 - reconnect with Audible

• Upvotes

For reasons mysterious, sometime when put car in PARK and exit car with Audible playing, returning and starting car gets Audible notice “ go online.” But Audible IS online through Bluetooth, as far as I know. Only way to restart it is holding down phone disconnect on steering wheel long enough to get “ reset” screen. Even this confusing because instructions are either “dealer reset”or “restore factory setting. “ I do neither and info screen resets, Audible works. This “go online” non function happens only sometimes. Other times, as I put car in gear. Audible starts where it left off. Through all of this, “my Chevrolet” blue tooth app remains “ not connected.”

Does anyone understand what is happening? Why reconnection is haphazard? Why info disconnects with phone? What is solution apart from rebooting?

Interesting note regarding the Electric Parking Brake

2027 Bolt - Reading through the manual.

Page 157. The electric parking brake relies on battery power and cannot apply or release if the battery is dead. To prevent drain on the battery, only use it when necessary.

I found this interesting as I had planned to use it most times. Maybe I’ll reconsider if it could potentially drain the 12v battery.

I also found this interesting on page 158. The use during an emergency. You can hold the button in an emergency and it will decelerate the vehicle to a stop.

Since I have standard J hook, went to nearby auto parts store and eyeballed it. This one fits, even though their computer said it won’t fit. Just thought I’d share. I tried the rubber insert and it was a total disaster.

changing to hourly pricing

I have not done the calculations. But looking at my bill, I used 1261kWh and supply charge of 0.08413 and transmission charge of 0.01690. There is also the distribution facility charge of 0.06340 and an IL Electricity distribution charge. All multiplied to 1261kWh. I used 70% charging my car at night to early morning. occasionally charging it at 9am-1pm on level 2 charging. Would it be cheaper for me to just do hourly pricing. I see hourly pricing rates at night to early am from 1.5 cents to 2.5 cents and morning ones from 3 -5 cents. I need some help to save on electric bill

What’s a good price for a base LT with comfort package?

Hi all. I’ve picked out the features I want on the 27 Bolt EV. So now I’m dating various dealerships to find a good price. The latest? Included in my quote is $499.00 for the oil change program. Well, it is listed as optional. Do these guys even know what they are selling? But I digress. Any tips? I can wait til the end of the month. I can also travel as long as there’s an airport. I’m in North Carolina if that helps. Thanks for the help. And do I go for the oil change program??😂😂😂😂😂

Replacement parts for 2027 Bolt

My neighbor just hit my 2027 Bolt. Has anyone had to deal with body repairs on one yet? I'm worried that replacement parts won't be easy to find since the car is so new and still in production.

Anti-Click Washer changed, problems

2017 Chevrolet BoltEV.

I changed the washer and a new drive axle nut, did the strut bolt method. Put everything back together, torqued to spec. But upon driving it, there's some weird clunk (not click) that shakes the car, and I'm not sure what that is. It seems to occur going forward but not so much backwards. It doesn't seem related to wheel speed, it seems to be a bit more spaced out than 1 revolution, but am not certain about that.

I can't really identify it, have it back up on stands, and spinning the wheel, I don't see anything. Nothing is loose. Everything looks seated. It *feels* like it is on the passenger side, but I can't be certain. I don't think I got it over 5mph before getting it back up.

Has anyone seen/experienced this? Any ideas on what this might be?

$100 pre-charge for fast charging is ridiculous.

The MyChevy auto charge when plugging into charge point does a fucking $100 pre-auth. That is insane, and you don’t get that back for 24 hours… absolutely insane for a $10-$15 charging session.

Side mirror replacement, or entire assembly?

Thumbnail

Unfortunately, someone stole my side mirror on my 2022 Bolt EUV. I looked online and the part # for the glass and back housing seems to be 42782869. However, before I go ahead and spend 175$ CAD on ordering the part, I wanted to check if there are any additional parts of the assembly that were also damaged during the theft. To me, it seems quite okay, but I’m no expert. The plastic seems fine, and the circular center assembly still moves fine when controlling it from inside the car.

Tips & Tricks Tips for first Trunk or Treat?

A pretty light question, I don’t know what I don’t know:
I’ll be doing my first trunk-or-treat trunk ever, in my Bolt EUV. I’ve heard things about how the regular car battery can still die even in a fully charged electric vehicle. Do I need to be concerned about dome lights draining my battery? Can I keep the car on and play music through the speakers?
Any other advice or warnings?
Thanks!

Low amp draw hours prior to schedule. What's it doing?

2027 bolt LT

Like the title says, I plug in Sunday afternoon and the car draws 1.5 amps for 3.5 hours, then stops all night, then starts a full charge according to schedule.

The light on the dash is Blue (connected and stopped pending schedule)

The ambient temp is 17ºC during the 1.5 amp draw.

What is it doing while its drawing 1.5 amps? Any guesses?

Negotiating a purchase

I am in the process of negotiating a purchase of a new 2027 Bolt RS with the Technology Package. The dealer is giving me an out-the-door price of $33,000 which includes a trade-in of my 2014 Prius, dealer discount, California’s MyFirstEV incentive discount of $3500, taxes, all fees.

Is this a good deal?
