Crowdsourcing Kickstarter bonuses for late state pledges?

I am close to my Kickstarter goal for my board game series Dual Fires, with a week to go. Do you all ever see games run any promotions or bonuses to encourage people to pledge before the deadline? I toyed with the idea of some sort of discount or bonus thrown in the last week, but I don't want to frustrate those who supported me early on. Any thoughts or recommendations?

Pixies Larger Box

With Pixies now having two expansions, is it likely to get the larger box treatment that Sea, Salt, and Paper did? I love the version I got from Walmart and would want the same if they offered it.

Crowdsourcing What is your preference when it comes to Stretch Goals?

Thumbnail kickstarter.com
1 Upvotes

I've just launched my hand-drawn, lightweight, set-matching card game about ducklings raiding a Dungeon to defeat monsters. We've hit our first stretch goal, which has me very excited and thinking about what other things we can offer as stretch goals.

So my question for you is: Do you like stretch goals? Do you prefer smaller, more frequent stretch goals like bonus cards or digital wallpaper? Or do you prefer bigger stretch goals like upgrades to box or paper stock?

Suggest 2 entry level-wargame board games to purchase. Little Soldiers, General Orders WW2, Blitzkrieg!, Caesar!, Memoir 44, Undaunted Normandy.

I'm leaning towards Little Soldiers and General Orders WW2. I love that Little Soldiers has a lot of reflexibility on how you placed your miniatures and you can add random stuff as part of your battlefield, though its a bit too family friendly, so the second game I would get is General Orders WW2. Is this a good combo?

Or should I just go all in with Memoir 44 and forget the rest?

What's your opinion? Is there any other entry level wargame board game that I should look into?

Thanks guys!

Do free browser versions of physical games make you more or less likely to buy the box?

Curious how you all feel about this.

Some designers put a free, playable web version of their game online before or alongside the physical release. No account, just open it and play against the computer.

On paper it sounds great: you can try the core loop before spending money, and it's easy to show a friend. But I can also see the other side. If the web version is good enough, why buy the box? And a browser game against an AI never really feels like sitting across from someone, so maybe it undersells the game.

So:

- Has a web or digital version ever convinced you to buy a physical game? Or talked you out of it?

- Does it matter if it's the full game or just a light version?

- Would you rather have it before the release or only after you own the box?

I'm a small designer myself and I'm trying to figure out whether this actually helps or hurts. Interested in honest takes either way.

Crowdsourcing Wavelength, but asynchronous, inside a Reddit post

Post image
1 Upvotes

Wavelength is one of my favorite party/board games, but it's not always easy to get a group together to play. So I built a version that works directly within Reddit, where people can drop in whenever they're free: r/InSync.

Would love feedback from folks here, especially on whether the game even works in this format.

Do you recommend playing Dungeon Mayhem for two people? Plus the expansions.

For context, we enjoyed playing Unstable Unicorns, Exploding Kittens, and Here to Slay even if it's just the two of us. Do you think Dungeon Mayhem plus the other expansions is good for 1v1?

I figured trying out this new game because the art looks sick.

My father’s work app is not supported and they put the files online.

So i thought my father’s work would work well as a Discord bot. It allows you to play one of the three scenarios

Let me know what you think

Looking for a competitive board game for 3–4 players with multiple paths to victory and comeback potential

I'm looking for a new board game for my group of 3–4 players, and I'd love to hear your recommendations. I'll list some of the things we enjoy, as well as a few games we've played and how they went over with our group.

These preferences aren't in any particular order; I'm just listing what comes to mind. Personally, I've enjoyed most of the games we've played, but I'm trying to find something that fits the group's preferences as well.

What we're looking for:

  • Player interaction and conflict. We enjoy having the option to fight, compete, interfere with each other's plans, or otherwise interact directly with other players.
  • Multiple paths to victory. Ideally, there should be different strategies and ways to win, whether through military conquest, political influence, points, or other mechanics. We like having options rather than feeling forced to follow one optimal strategy.
  • Meaningful decisions and strategic depth. We enjoy games where you have to think things through, adapt to the situation, and figure out how to get yourself out of a difficult position.
  • Uncertainty until the very end. We don't like games where someone makes a strong move early on and it's immediately obvious that they're going to win. Of course, this depends on the players too, but we'd prefer games where the outcome remains uncertain until the later stages and there's still room for comebacks.
  • Limited language dependency. One player in our group isn't very comfortable with English, so games with lots of complex text on cards, tiles, or player boards might be a problem. Basic English is fine, as you can see from the games we've played successfully, but advanced or lengthy card text would be best avoided.
  • Easy setup and teardown. We'd prefer something that doesn't take half an hour to set up or put away.
  • Relatively easy to learn, difficult to master. We don't mind strategic depth, but we'd appreciate rules that are reasonably quick to teach and learn.
  • Miniatures are a plus! Not a requirement, but we definitely appreciate a game with nice miniatures.

Games we've played and enjoyed:

  • Inis – We really like the interaction, area control, tactical decisions, and the fact that the game can end in different ways. You can never be completely sure how things will unfold.
  • Terraforming Mars – We enjoyed the strategic options and the different ways to develop your engine and score points.
  • Dune: Imperium – We like the mix of worker placement, deck building, combat, and the different strategic decisions you have to make.

Games that didn't quite click with our group:

  • Ankh: Gods of Egypt
  • Disney Villainous
  • Spirit Island – This is actually one of my personal favorites, but it wasn't a great fit for the group as a whole.

I'm open to different themes, player counts, and mechanics, as long as the game works well with 3–4 players and fits as many of these preferences as possible.

What would you recommend?

Replacement parts question

My wife is a kind and incredibly thoughtful woman, and likes to plan ahead.

She found a copy of Great Wall by awaken realms for a really good price as a thrift store and it was going to be what we played together in December.

Unfortunately, while all the cards and cardboard parts were there, even some of the kickstarter exclusives, it turns out the board and plastic character pieces were all missing.

Does anyone know a good way to get replacement parts for this game? I am in Texas and I know the manufacturer of the game is based in Europe so I’m not sure the best way to go about it

Crowdsourcing Serious Privacy: The Data Game

Thumbnail kickstarter.com
2 Upvotes

My boyfriend has launched a game on Kickstarter and completely lacks socials as both his work and the game are about online data privacy! Not a great situation for a launch so I'm hoping to help out since like him I'm a huge fan of board games xD

Serious Privacy: The Data Game is a coop game where players take on societal roles (each with their own ability) to try and balance different business districts to utilise data for the betterment of humanity (and win the game) while avoiding cascading harms to society.

Gameplaywise it has elements familiar to Shadows over Camelot but differs greatly due to an event deck that truly mixes things up providing an all too tempting approach. Can you resist that temptation to more focus your group efforts?

Each card also contains information regarding modern data privacy and concerns, written by the creator - an expert on the field. While not required to play the game, these elements provide a fascinating insight into data protection and its effect on modern life.

Trying to make a board game inspired by the in universe board game Qiankun - Nine Sols

Firstly, I have not yet finished the game (I've beaten Kuafu and Guomang), but I think I've seen all the dialogue regarding the board game Qiankun. From some base-level research, I believe the name in Mandarin is meant to be 乾坤, though if anyone plays Nine Sols in mandarin please correct me, and so I want to compile information and progress in this post.

Current Information:

  • Game is played on an octagonal board, consisting of multiple rings, leading into one circle
  • Board is also divided into 8 sections shown by lines leading from the centre
  • (I don't remember the exact dialogue for this) Gameplay resembles gravitational bodies
  • In each of the 8 sections on the outer ring there is a bigger circle, hard to discern but I think 4 are white, 4 are black
  • Pieces can be taken, as Shuanshuan says when playing with Yi
  • Game is very complex, one event can change the entire board
  • Many opening placements(?)

Interpretations:

  • I believe the circle in the certain is meant to represent the Sun of a system
  • I think the outermost circles are meant to be "home bases of some sort"
  • I think play constitutes moving the inner pieces around their rings
  • Pieces may be celestial bodies (as I will refer to them from now on)
  • To capture pieces could be force based, putting enough bodies together could create a great enough repulsion, which could capture?

These are all basic information and interpretations. I'd love to hear feedback from people who know more about this game, or people who have suggestions on how to design it. Thanks!

Suggest me a cute but competitive game

I love games with colors and cute pieces but the problem is I feel like most of them play like solo games. There's not much interaction with other players. My game group really likes competitive and interactive elements in games. So I want suggestions for cute games with fun themes that are still strategic and competitive.

Crowdsourcing I wanted a better way to remember my board game nights, so I built an app

What do you use to keep a record of the board games you’ve played?

* BGG?
* Spreadsheet?
* Photos only?
* Notebook?
* Nothing at all, just in your heart?

Until now, I’ve only kept photos.

It wasn’t really about keeping track of scores or win rates. I just took photos of the games I played and the friends I played with.

However, this year, I wanted to keep track of who I played with, what board games we played, and the photos from each game night, so I built a small iPhone app called BoardLog.

The idea is simple: rather than focusing on scores and statistics, BoardLog is about preserving the memories of board game nights.

You can record the games you played and who you played with, add photos, and look back on your past game nights later.

I wanted it to feel less like a game tracker and more like a personal scrapbook.

It’s currently available on the US and Japanese App Stores.

I’d love to hear how you keep your board game memories! Do you take photos, keep game logs, use an app, or simply rely on your memory?

If you’re interested, feel free to check out BoardLog!

Boardgame playthrough recommendations

Hi guys,

Due to illness I have lot of time to kill. So I'm looking for recommendations on Boardgame playthroughs on YouTube. Pls tell me your favorite creator + game combos.

I already know the Brothers Murph and watch it played but don't know which videos are worth watching. I like more complex strategy games like terraforming Mars or spirit island.

Thanks for any recommendations
