DISCUSSION On this episode of how it’s made

THE MACHINE

The evidence of something at play, is, has been apparent, I have been stuck between going along with it, and also doing, saying things in an effort to learn what’s really at play? How deep does it go? And to what end? Of course it’s all fictional, at least from I can tell, a majority of it is. The amount of parts that are moving to this end have been made to show as many, no doubt. And the dialogue that just runs In constant circles, either showing to have a touch of something that vaguely reads as something I’d say in a response to a relatable situation, but so very wrongly getting the important details reversed. And same with other, what feel like know people in my life and the same, manufactured lines. As a whole, it leaves me concluding its purpose is accomplish one thing over all, and that’s to muddy the waters so much, that you can’t take any meaning from anything at all. I do know one thing, that when an effort feels the way this does, made to catch your eye, but equally confuse in this manner, it is also probably a distraction, and like when there’s rain there’s thunder, where there’s a distraction there’s something it’s planning to hope I miss, don’t see coming, or something along those lines. I’ve had a lot of time to give some thought to a variety of possible things this could be. From what I’m given in here tho I know I can’t take to the bank, so I pay close attention to the conversations I have with certain people, something there has also felt off for sometime. What is at play I do not know. I’m over like, what y’all want me to do? It’s weird stuff for sure, and I wonder what other people would do if faced with the same thing, and maybe that’s exactly what’s happening, we got someone behind a two way mirror, convincing themselves that a white jacket hides a black soul. They jot down their discoveries and things that were revealed. I wonder if me knowing for as long as I have would negate any sort of meaning take away. All that very well couldn’t be case either, just a funny one. Entertaining as this once was for a long while, I sit here and wonder, looking directly at the two way glass not being able to see but know they see me, in just the right way they they know for sure I see them, then I waive.

DISCUSSION Beyond the Sea: Why didn't they send the replicas into space? Spoiler

So why don't they just send the replicas up into space on the mission, and keep the actual human astronauts down on Earth? Is there a specific reason I'm missing? What do you guys think?

DISCUSSION What are episodes that you changed your opinion on as you rewatch them? Spoiler

For examples:

I didn't like Hotel Reverie on my first watch, and actively avoided it whenever I rewatched Black Mirror episodes. I just rewatched it on a whim, and wow, I really like it now.

Same with the one where the Zook guy from 22 Jump Street where he's a game tester. I really didn't like the episode at first, but now I really like it after a rewatch.

The opposite of this is Hang the DJ. It was one of my favorite episodes, but every time I like it less and less every time I rewatch it. No idea why, and it kind of saddens me that I don't enjoy the episode anymore.

It's trippy as FUCK

I'm only like 2/3ds through the first episode where it just reached the climax and it's tripping me out so fucking bad 😭

It's basically about a boy who has an accident and when he comes out of the hospital his mom is.. Not his mom. It's like another person. It looks like her but it isn't her.

It's really so fucking trippy and I know y'all mfers will love it ❤️

S04E04 "HANG THE DJ" Spoiler

Just finished HANG THE DJ episode and I loved it. As I read reddit posts about it, I see people think this episode is way too dark - our consciousness is being used, considering it as torture on par with White Christmas. But I disagree, I believe these cookies are destroyed after the match is found, so probably no eternal suffering.

Although the sad part for me in this episode, is that, whole of our life is filled with companionship and we grow through it, the mistakes, the amends, we go through hardships and find our person. In this episode though, its being outsourced to an app, that does the simulations for u. Frank and Amy missed out on real relationships, and went straight to each other (which is ofc good), but missed out maybe personal growth that comes with other not-so-perfect relationships.

I believe people serve a purpose in our lives even if they may not last long. And that was what was being missed out on here and I'd say that's the darkest part.

DISCUSSION Is Black Mirror still the same? Spoiler

So the first time I started watching Black Mirror I had seen upto season 5. I felt this thing then too in it's 5th season but it was so small that I think I didn't notice it.

Anyways so I had been re-watching the show now and in it's 6th and 7th season I felt it again. Couldn't put my finger on it. Nd then I saw this scene from Bojack Horseman.

This is what I feel about Black Mirror. Just replace toxic masculinity with gore perhaps. I feel the show is now just repeating the same thing with some changes here and there to keep churning out more episodes.

That's not to say it's all bad. It's more like you've made ur point why are u still dragging it. What's ur opinion on it?

DISCUSSION What did you do after watching an episode? Spoiler

I watched Common People and the episode broke my heart with how close it is to our reality. I’m curious what changes you personally made after watching an episode of this show.

For me, after watching common people, I took a good look at my things that I always thought were essential, and even narrowed it down. I’ve been making more of an effort to support local businesses, and reuse instead of getting wholesale items. I’ve been trying to be more informed with our politics. I’m currently working on a blanket (crochet) using thrifted sweaters from goodwill to reduce clothing waste. I’m not perfect, I’m not an extremist, I still travel and eat fast food when I’m lazy/craving, but I’m mindful.

This post is hopefully so everyone can be inspired. Black Mirror is an amazing show, it hits the spot most of the time.

S05E00 I made an interactive drama inspired by Black Mirror: Bandersnatch 👀

It's called THE PROGRAMME. Six strangers from completely different walks of life. One exclusive rehabilitation estate. And a connection between them that runs deeper than any of them realise.

At key moments, you'll decide how the characters should act, who they should trust and what they should do next. The majority vote helps determine what happens in future episodes.

Episode 1 is FREE and there are already two decisions you can vote on:
https://www.nothrworld.com/watch

THE PROGRAMME is the first series on NothrWorld. The bigger vision is to create a home for original entertainment, from interactive dramas to strange, unsettling, Black Mirror-esque short films. Think Interdimensional Cable from Rick and Morty, but as a real platform for original shows, with some letting you influence what happens next.

I want it to be the kind of place where you can discover something completely different every time you visit, get attached to a story you weren't expecting to love or come across a short film that stays in your head for days.

Full disclosure: Episode 1 was made on a limited budget, but it's just the beginning. Future episodes will be longer, more in-depth and give the characters and mystery much more room to develop.

Sooo watch Episode 1 for free, meet the characters and cast your votes to help shape what happens next. I'd love to know what you think! 🖤

S03E03 Just had a disgusting realization about “Shut Up And Dance” Spoiler

So the way it works with most twisty thriller type media, rewatching often opens up a second layer of appreciation as you are more aware of certain innocuous scenes actually being critical foreshadowing. I might be alone in this but I’ve previously noticed certain “tells” about Kenny’s secret, but one in particular flew over my head until now and it almost made me vomit when it clicked. Most people mention and remember when he returns the lost toy to the little girl in the diner. I just now realized when his younger sister is watching that provocative music video and dancing along, and the camera focuses in on the sexy dancing on the TV and then transitions to Kenny having a kind of silent moment realizing he wants to go to his room to masturbate. He wasn’t triggered/excited/activated by the dancers on the TV. It was from watching his younger sister…

(Spoilers)

So we are supposed to feel sad because this guy lost his chance to reconcile with his cheating girlfriend that's gotten pregnant by someone else? I'd say he dodged a bullet. I'm not raising some other guy's kid. Sorry not sorry. I didn't feel anything watching this. It's above Mazey Day but below everything else.

S04E01 Am I the only one who thinks “USS Callister” (Season 4, Episode 1) didn’t need a sequel in Season 7?

I know this might be an unpopular opinion, but I genuinely don’t understand why USS Callister got a sequel, especially as the finale of Season 7.

One of my favorite things about Black Mirror is that it’s an anthology. Every episode introduces new characters, new concepts, and completely different situations. You never know what you’re going to get, and I love how some episodes make you question morality while others leave you emotionally devastated or thinking about them for days afterward.

Personally, USS Callister just didn’t do that for me. I found the concept predictable and not particularly original. It reminded me of ideas that have already been explored in other sci-fi stories, like Ready Player One, just with a different technological angle. I understand that there are differences, but the overall concept didn’t feel fresh enough to me to justify revisiting it.

What frustrates me most is that Black Mirror has so many possibilities to explore, yet an entire episode was dedicated to continuing a story I wasn’t particularly interested in to begin with. Even if you enjoyed the sequel, wouldn’t you rather have seen another completely original story in that episode’s place?

After watching episodes like Common People and Eulogy, I’m reminded of how much this show can do with a fresh concept and new characters. Those are the kinds of stories I want more of. I want to be introduced to a completely new situation and have no idea where it’s going.

I also feel like USS Callister gets a lot of attention online, especially through short clips, but popularity doesn’t necessarily mean a story is the most original or the best representation of what makes Black Mirror special.

I’m not saying sequels can never be good, or that people are wrong for enjoying this one. I just think that continuing a story in an anthology series should have a really compelling reason behind it, and personally, this wasn’t the one I would’ve chosen.
And if they were going to make a sequel anyway, why make it the season finale? Why not give us one more completely unrelated episode afterward?
Honestly, I’d rather have 12 entirely new stories than revisit a concept that didn’t impress me the first time.

I’m curious to hear other perspectives, though. What makes USS Callister worth revisiting for you?

EPISODES Which episodes should I skip

Just got into the show. I clicked on it and the episode that came first was s7e1: common people. It definitely grabbed me! I was so frustrated for the couple and what they were going through

Then I watched s1e1: the national anthem. It was deeply unsettling but I was super intrigued the whole time and it made me think a lot. With both these episodes I couldn’t take my eyes away and I really like the acting in this show

s1e2: fifteen million merits. It bored me and was underwhelming and I wasn’t interested with the type of society they lived in. It kinda seemed too fake and weird. I don’t wanna waste my time with boring episodes so I’m wondering which ones I should skip

Thanks!
