Media & Entertainment 🍿🎶 Black influencers getting skinny
Has anyone else noticed a rise in some of our favorite Black influencer girlies getting really thin all of a sudden - well past 2 years? I don’t want to name any names yet because I want to see if this is all in my head or if this is something other people are seeing as well. I live in New York City and so maybe this is just an NYC thing, but there are some LA influencers that have been looking pretty thin as well. Since they post all the time, you can literally see the progression. I wish they’d share how they’re doing it - one claims she just locked in but the majority aren’t saying anything.
Is this just related to the overall resurgence of skinny or trying to make it in these influencer streets, or both?
Edited to add: this isn’t about me personally looking for weight loss advice from these influencers. I’m more concerned about the standard it’s setting for young Black women, especially if they’re not talking about how they’re doing it, in a healthy way.

Dating/Relationships/Sex 🍑🍆 Today marks 30 years since I married that man in my house!
From two college kids to college graduates to husband and wife to parents of 4 and now empty nesters. It’s been one hell of a journey and I can’t wait to spend another 30 and another 30 with him.
We are celebrating tomorrow by hosting a brunch to celebrate everyone who contributed to the success of this union.

Just Venting 😮💨 I still can’t get effect and affect right to save my life
This is soooooo random but I just had to vent about it 💀 now I’m no Albert Einstein, but I think I’m fairly smarter than most average people. I’m huge on social politics, psychology, art, etc. But one thing that’s been kicking my ass since I was a kid has always been affect and effect. Like it doesn’t matter how many times it’s explained to me or the example that’s being used, my brain short circuits. I just feel so stupid and it’s starting to haunt me 😣 I’m 27 and this is now something I decided to add to my list of things to tackle and use more in my daily lexicon.
The thing is though the way I naturally talk is super casual, but when I’m typing or writing out things I intellectualize my thoughts way better and more eloquently. I use way more two-tier words when writing and typing than when I speak. Every now and again I’ll use big words in my daily speech. Like the other day I used “incredulous” in a sentence and I won’t normally do that 😭 it’s so abnormal for me to speak that way, that I will look up the definition just to make sure I’m not just saying things to “sound smart”. But clearly I’ve seen, read, heard the word somewhere and 99.9% of the time when moments like that happen, I’m using the words correctly even if I haven’t seen words like that in a while. Instead of saying incredulous though, I’d naturally say something along the lines of “that’s sus” or “unbelievable”. However, I will type or write incredulous naturally in a heartbeat.
I don’t know, my speech is just really starting to get to me. I want to stop always using filler words and speaking so casually all the time. I just want to be able to have that duality when I talk. Not just being able to talk and write one way or the other. I think it’d also make me an all around more confident speaker. I hope everything I said made sense tho😭
Matter of fact let me practice this right now; speaking casually has affected my daily speech patterns. (I have no idea if that’s right or not, Apple autocorrected it lol!)

Vent about Racism 🤬 Watch out for Anti-BW Troll Posts Spoiler
I'm unsure if this has been posted here before, but please be aware that there are anti-black women bots and fake black women accounts that have infiltrated this space and others with the sole intention to spread chaos and negativity in our community. They'll typically post a story about some racist or colorist experience they've had using one of the hot topics as a starting point. The whole point will be to get spread the idea that ~nobody likes black women and here's a sob story on why~ or ~See??? Look how racist X group is??? Can't black women be safe?? ~ Don't take the bait ya'll.
Not to say that every post like that is fake, but just encouraging you guys to be aware of the type of messages and rhetoric you welcome, because some of it is fake and intended to make you upset, especially in this climate.

Beauty/Fashion/Hair 💅🏽 👩🏾🦱 New dog has some wild hair
galleryJust wanted to bring in a fun friday topic that's really not that serious. <3
Long story short, dog was dumped three weeks ago at my riding club. He wasn't leaving but he also wasn't letting anyone get close enough to catch him. One of the members told me so I told them that I would at least give him a home for the winter and then spent last week out there catching him.
Well, he's a good dog and my own dog is getting attached so homeboy is probably staying. We'll see. He got himself a first name but he ain't earned that middle and last quite yet.
But before all of that, y'all his hair is sending me. Minute I got him home, he got a bath. He was sweaty and covered in burrs so I'm expecting a big before/after transformation. XDD He look the same!!
Mom met him today and she said, "he's cute in an ugly kinda way." XDD And y'all I agree. He cute but he's not cute cute. And that's after a week of daily brushing, oils and conditioners. I can't let Azrael live with this raggedy looking coat.
XD Y'all got some ideas on how to fix this baby's head?
First photo is before the bath, second is 3 days later, third photo is yesterday. At least he is getting darker with the baby oil brushings....

Vent about Racism 🤬 Content creation & racism Spoiler
I really didn’t know where else to post this but it’s so frustrating clearly seeing non black creators get such an advantage with content creation (as well as everything else). Yes there are successful black female creators but I’ve noticed most of them are in the beauty space. That seems to be the only space for black women to get any shine and support. I love makeup but I’m not interested in making content about it.
I make content on YouTube and I just stumbled across a new creator in the same niche as me, white female, started her channel about 2 weeks ago, her videos get 1000s of views already and she has about 500 subs.
I started my channel 2 years ago, I’m still at 2k subs barely, and it definitely took me more than 2 weeks to reach 500 subs. and my videos consistently get under 1000 views for the same type of content. You could be funnier and more entertaining but people will still support a white face before you. I’m also very pretty and conventionally attractive so it’s not that either.
Idk if it’s the algorithm or the audience or both, but it got to the point where I considered putting a white girl on my thumbnails to trick the algorithm to push my video and audience to clicking on my video 🤣
Obviously that wouldn’t work because they would click the video see a black girl and probably feel confused 😩

Just Venting 😮💨 Im done with birthdays
I love to celebrate people, love a good time but i am getting tired of people who don’t do anything to maintain our relationship inviting me to their birthdays. If we haven’t spent time together in forever, or we don’t talk regularly, then I am fine being skipped on the invite. Happy birthday birthday to you, wish you well, but i find it weird the way women in particular who don’t put in any effort to do life with you, turn around and expect you to spend time and money on their birthdays. This is not about friends who are just too busy to hang out often, but those people that want the benefits of a village without being a villager. You give what you get with me now!

Media & Entertainment 🍿🎶 We need to talk about Zeus
I’ll assume not many of you actually watch the network, but lately it’s becoming more and more popular. At first it seemed like it had its own small cult following, but I find it problematic that young people even know who some of these women are. I know parents are responsible for what their children consume, but it feels like “ratchet” culture is taking over “black culture.” What first seemed like a copy of Bad Girls Club from the 00s, is practically a dog fighting rink with black women. Many seem desperate to get out of a situation by auditioning to be on Baddies and Zeus, it’s sickening the degree to which they are being exploited. I hate that this form of entertainment is so front and center of the black community. Add in the Zeus murders, Blueface and Chrisean - it’s all a hot mess.
How does everyone else feel about Zeus and Baddies culture?

Friends 👯🏾♀️ Advice for making black friends as someone who’s consistently in white spaces
I grew up in a pretty affluent area and there weren’t many black kids at my schools. I was cool with most of them, but I wasn’t actually friends w any of them (like we wouldn’t hang out). In college I made a decent amount of friends, but only a few of them were black. I’ve been post grad for 3 years and I live in Phoenix (far from all my friends from college), which is predominantly white and Mexican. I have a few black friends here, but they’re all men and the black girls I’ve befriended both moved. It feels like no other black girls actually want to be my friend and I’m afraid it’s bc I come off as white washed and most of my friends are white / non black. In general I’ve been struggling to make friends in Phoenix and it’s really hurt my mental health. Earlier this week I was supposed to get dinner with a girl from bumble bff and she ghosted then blocked me so I went home and cried. I’m in a book club, go to church, and go to pilates. Please help me!!

Just Venting 😮💨 How long did it take for you start setting boundaries without feeling bad?
I’ve been in therapy since June and one thing I’m constantly working on is setting boundaries. I’ve realized how much bs I’ve put up with through the years, to always be seen as the “nice” girl and I’m tired. I’m starting to put up more boundaries and I feel bad for making others feel bad even though they were the ones that upset me 😩

Fit/Face Of The Day 💃🏾 I wish there were more spaces like this that accepted trans women. Everything feels scary right now with the world, so it means a lot to us.🫂🏳️⚧️🥺
Also some lightly trans colored outfits. My mom braided my hair🥰

Interests & Hobbies 🪴🥾 Other Renaissance Festival Fans/Costumers/Rennies?
Hey All,
I'm looking to connect with other Renaissance Festival patrons/participants wherever you are on the map. I'm a Rennie, I work at Carolina (CRF), and I've been going to the Fair since I was a kid. I've traveled to a couple other locations; Georgia, Maryland, and hopefully Florida soon. There aren't a lot of Black Rennies that I know of (there are a handful at my local faire, some of us stick together, some not), but I'd love to connect with more Black folks who are into this life. I want to see your costumes, hear about your Faire experiences and talk in general about what we love about the Faire! Thanks for reading.

Beauty/Fashion/Hair 💅🏽 👩🏾🦱 Who are we trusting to do our facelifts? (Mini, mid face and deep plane?)
Sometimes the black does crack and I really want to have a repository of good, trustworthy surgeons/injectors that do good work for US in my back pocket
My nasolabial folds are already bad and my face looks 1000x better when it's gripped up by a lace front so I know in a few years to a decade I'm gonna need to get professionally snatched up
Anyone that's been through the process or knows of people have suggestions?
TIA!

Beauty/Fashion/Hair 💅🏽 👩🏾🦱 Transparency: Facial Balancing
Sisters, I want to get facial balancing. I’ve never done filler or anything like that. I notice they never post cost per vial or anything. For the ladies that know, approximately how much should I anticipate going in?

Interests & Hobbies 🪴🥾 Anyone from Birmingham UK, into anime and kdrama?
Would anyone be interested in creating a nerdy Black women's club in Birmingham with me?
I really want to make more friends who share my love for anime, K-dramas and other nerdy interests, and I thought it would be nice to create a little community of women who enjoy the same things!
I was thinking we could organise things like watch parties, discussions, casual meetups, games nights and just generally have a space to share our interests together.
Would anyone be interested?
