I think Lalo Salamanca is one of the best written characters in TV history.

I’ve never seen a character like him. His charisma, intelligence, unpredictability, and the way he can be genuinely charming while still being terrifying. Every scene he’s in feels different. He’s incredibly well written, and every detail about him makes him truly unique.

$7925

I was watching the scene in S1E1 "Uno" where Jimmy was telling the two young skateboarders about his glory days, where he made 6 to 8 grand a wack. Figured that jimmy (perhaps subconsciously) relates 8 grand to an image of glory and success.

This theme is bolstered in S5E3 "The Guy for This", when Jimmy is asked how much he charges for one afternoon, his mind reaches $7925 (pretty close to it) when dealing with lalo.

Also, funnily enough, in the episode after, he proudly says IM SAUL GOODMAN, I TOOK 8 GRAND JUST FOR THE AFTERNOON implying he's back in his prime slippin jimmy days.

How realistic and how reasonable do you think it is that everyone was giving Saul the cold shoulder after he defended Lalo?

Two questions, how realistic and how reasonable.

Realistic is, would everyone gossip around that much to the point that even the security guard and secretary would know stuff? And would those people really care that much about a lawyer getting a guy out of prison? Like, that's kind of their functions.

Reasonable is, how do you feel about it? Do you think they were right to give him the cold shoulder? Or was it hypocrite as lawyers are often defending a bunch of shitty people and that's kind of their thing

In Gus' first appearance in the series, he appears on Jimmy's right shoulder whilst an elderly woman is framed on his left. They appear like an angel and devil, representing his two paths - choose elder law or the world of crime (S03E02)

Jimmy and Kim Question

So I’m only at the end of season 3, and so maybe this is answered later in the series, but what is the deal with their relationship? Are they just friends with benefits? And why? Like, what does she see in him? Why does she support him? Would love to hear some insight into this! Thanks!

*Spoiler* Just watched Howard Spoiler

• Upvotes

Hamlin death and wow. First things first. At one point, I just felt empathy for Howard. Yes maybe you can say that he deserved Saul's harrassment and stuff, but at one point it went just too far.

Dude felt responsible for Chuck's death, probably went into depression, got back on his feet, only to be put down in the mud again by Saul AND KIM (which we know it was bit personal because she was vexed when Howard thought her demission was due to Saul's bullshit)

I'm looking forward to see the following episodes but yes, very tragic death and I loved one little detail about this :

When Howard fell, his head smashes against the corner of the table, just like Chuck when he had a panic attack, trying to prove Jimmy's scam. Love the parallelism because at the end, both events happened because of Jimmy's scams

I love how Lantern creates a parallel between Hector and Chuck, even though both don't even meet and are very different.

Over the course of the episode, both men:

  • think they are indispensable and all-important to their organization(Hector to the Cartel, Chuck to HHM)
  • find out that they are not, in fact, indispensable, as they are forced out of their previous position of good standing(Hector finds out that Gus's chicken trucks will be used; Chuck is forced out of HHM for good) by a colleague(Bolsa and Howard)
  • As a result, they go on a furious tantrum and verbally attack everyone they blame(Hector rants about Eladio, Bolsa, and Gus; Chuck tells Jimmy that he never mattered much to him)
  • As a direct result of their downfall, both are victims of a health issue(Hector is a victim to a Stroke; Chuck's EHS returns) which leads to them being permanently crippled(Hector becomes a Bell; Chuck outright dies)
  • Both also get to watch their hated rival seemingly escape all consequences and rise high(Chuck and Jimmy, Hector and Gus)
  • On a more specific note, both of them are technically right that their rival is plotting something(Chuck is correct that Jimmy is a con-man with a checkered past, Hector is correct that Gus is actually plotting against the Cartel and Hector himself) but ignore the fact that it was only brought about by their own actions(Chuck refusing to see Jimmy as anything more than a criminal causes Jimmy to become a criminal again, Hector was the one who killed Max and set Gus on his Bad Choice Road) .
  • This is a bit of a stretch, but both of them will choose to take their own lives using a fire-related means of death(Hector will one day suicide bomb Gus, Chuck burns his own house down).

I always like to rewatch shows like Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul to see how all the characters are really similar, and this is just one example I happened to notice.

I spot a very nostalgic song in BCS!

As a huge fan of the Breaking Bad universe, and for such a long time, I should've definetly given BCS a chance sooner.

Season 2 Episode 1 begins with a song that is, at least for me, very associated to nostalgic years such as 2020 - 2022.
It is apparently a remixed version of call me by 90sflav.

I really like this song and I'm finding BCS very entertaining.
I'm just missing 1 thing... Breaking Bad's shaky camera. It was so good. But I can barely see it in Better Call Saul. :/

THEORY: Chuck was a product of teen pregnancy while Jimmy was planned

I don't actually think this is true, but it would give even more of a reason as to why Jimmy's parents favored him. If Chuck was the living reminder of unwanted sacrifices his parents made to have him, no wonder they didn't recognize his hard work. Though... Jimmy's mom looks pretty old in the scene where she dies, and there is no proof of this theory being true. Just thought it would be an interesting angle, especially considering how recent abortion rights are (Jimmy's mom would not have gotten the choice).

Just watch Andor and I randomly thought of this scene? Spoiler

When I saw that scene between Partagaz and Krennic, the moment Partagaz talked about how much of a miracle about not being caught for this long. I thought about the scene in Better Call Saul with Gus, Peter, and Lydia, with them discussing Lalo and the construction project before Peter freaks out, saying it was a miracle he hasn't been caught yet, and was considering quitting the project until Gus persuaded him that everything would be alright. I thought they were played by the same actor until I did a bit of research and realized they were both played by different actors (Lio Partagaz was played by Anton Lesser, and Peter Schuler was played by Norbert Weisser)

I still find it a funny, interesting coincidence how much these two scenes have in common, with as I said, both Peter and Partagaz showing concern at how long the project is taking and being lucky they haven't been caught yet, and both proceed to off themselves to avoid any further punishment

But what do you guys think? Has anyone thought of these two scenes together or something along those lines?

Someone as thorough as Saul/Jimmy/"Gene" slipping up seems like a bit of a stretch Spoiler

• Upvotes

I know this is just gonna get argued against, but I feel the need to comment this since no one else out there seems to have ever said it.

IN MY OPINION...

Someone who has the foresight and careful planning that Saul has throughout both series would immediately think about how knowing bond/bail law in ABQ after saying he'd never been there would look super suspicious.

It bothers me less than Jesse's sudden realization about the ricin cigarette, but still bothers me a bit. Let me be clear though, I'm not saying "omg this is so stupid what an awful show!" I just think the turning point is a little weak and there's probably a million better ways to have Marion find out. I wish I could put flashing lights and a siren around the word opinion bc people get extremely heated about completely harmless opinions about fictional media way too much on this website. Just stating mine and inviting discussion (hopefully more thoughtful than just "Nope, you're stupid and wrong.")

Why didn’t Bolsa follow up on the desert attack in Bagman?

So, Bolsa secretly hires a Colombian gang to stop Lalo’s bail money from reaching the courthouse. He does this to protect his and Gus’s business from Lalo’s sabotage.

Since Mike and Saul take out the Colombians, the bail money makes it and Lalo is bailed out.

Why didn’t Bolsa inquire about this? Only thing I can think of is he inquired with his contact offscreen, or maybe caught on to Gus’s larger plan (following their phone call in Bad Choice Road) and quietly let it play out.

Saddest Jim/Saul moment

Waterworks intro, when he received divorce letter from Kim. He's at the verge of crying but Saul took over. Masterclass acting by Bob, shame he never got emmys.

How would gene not be implicated in the mall heist?

So Gene & crew successfully do the mall heist, their saving grace is gene being able to distract Gary.

Police would for sure start an investigation and find out that the main point of failure is Gary who was not paying attention to the CCTV. Gary would then tell the police that he was talking to Gene the whole night facing away from the monitors. How would Gene not immediately be implicated and investigated? And then found out as Saul Goodman?

It's been a while since I have seen the show, so maybe there was some explanation in the episode that I'm not remembering

On season 6 and my goodness is Nippy (6x10) such an underrated gem!

Post image

First time watcher here and I just got the the black and white episodes, loving season 6 so far, but was so incredibly surprised by how amazing Nippy was but I’m confused why it’s rated so low on IMDb? 8.5?? c’mon it’s at least a 9.0+, genuinely on the edge of my seat watching this episode, what a performance by Bob Odenkirk as always but the other guest actors and the heist… the heist was just perfect chef’s kiss. Like genuinely did not see any of this coming, it’s a slow burn and starts off a bit slow but does it pick up so quick, that ending as well. Also that whole plan by Gene every night made no sense at first but wow wow wow!! I completely lost it when it all came together.

Genuinely can’t understand why people hate this episode, I absolutely loved it at the end, when it all comes together it’s genuinely like a puzzle finally being completed. What are your thoughts? Loving season 6 so far!

I am thinking of doing a Saul Goodman costume for Halloween, but I am on the fence about which suit would be the best. These are my top two choices.

Better call saul theme played at the end of "winner"(fan edit)

I've seen edits where the theme song plays at the end of "saul gone" but in my personal opinion it doesn't fit the bittersweet ending.

But there is another place where I think it fits PERFECTLY, and that is at the end of "winner" When jimmy gets his law licence back and we start to see the man we know and love. Saul Goodman

Me liking BCS more than breaking bad is partially because of how good breaking bad is somehow

I love everything about breaking bad. And I love everything about better call Saul, but I think what uplifts better call Saul for me to like it more down to a few reasons

  1. is how it blows my mind how amazing they got everything from a prequel aspect, that strong characters such as chuck, nacho, KIM, LALO.
Every one of the main cast is so strong and brings so much.
To think they all exist in the same world as Walter white. It’s just insane to me how right they got it.
tragic history is implemented before Walter even got there. It adds more weight to the ending of s4 where he technically kills Hector and gus, he ends the game that everyone’s a part of in better call Saul.

This is more so credit to the writing team and the actors for their performances. But when something is so good, everything works in its favour(hence why my title is a factor for me).

The moving parts in this show are just all amazing, multiple 10/10 storylines moving back and fourth at once (mikes storylines, nachos, jimmys) such great entertainment

  1. Another reason for the title is because of Mikes story in BCS. We see him enter the game, and his whole story in that respect specifically is just amazing to watch when you have the hindsight of BrBa. I especially like his storyline with the bug implanted in his car, when he stays up all night to find the people and follows them on their route. IT just makes sense that the mike from breaking bad does that !

So cool seeing a grizzled old man become an insanely competent private investigator

  1. Jimmy being the main character as opposed to Walter.
The character of jimmy and the way bob odenkirk acts. He is able to play the emotional beats well and also the jazzy Saul Goodman act perfectly (his charismatic nature)

He is refreshing to see as a main character in this world compared Walter who was such a piece of shit it was hard to watch at times.
It’s much easier to root for Saul because it feels like the world is out to get him (chuck and Howard)- he obviously does fucked up things but not to the extremes as Walter. And so for a lot of the show you sympathise with him

  1. Cinematography and cameras

This one is kind of unfair but breaking bad looks like a tv show of its times, which is beautiful and nostalgic, the cameras of the time make the look. i have no issue with that. But I think BCS just benefits from having higher quality technology. It gives the creatives better blocks to build with

I also think the cinematography is beautiful in BCS, it’s much more artistic in this show compared to breaking bad, I think the way they using lighting in the show is a major reason- the night scenes look magical to me.

( I love the wide shots this show sometimes does this shot , where there’s a single character by a big wall or in the middle of nowhere, and they really pop in the frame it’s a shot I love seeing whenever, ever- it feels very melancholy).

  1. The concept of the show being a prequel that loops back round and gives you the continuation of jimmy’s story after breaking bad is so smart and a beautiful cherry on top. It’s like the whole show is feeding you the context for why jimmy does what he does in that courtroom at the end.

It’s like “we’re gonna show you Saul’s conclusion, but first we’re gonna show you why his conclusion is what it is”. As if his conclusion (with Kim walking into the courtroom is the reason for this shows inception)- like the conclusion was predetermined, and fans were gonna see her and be like “who the fuck is that” so they had to go make a whole show about why the moment is so significant 😂. THATS JUST A FUNNY WAY OF LOOKING AT IT

I’m not a Star Wars fan but i think it’s similar in how well the prequels fit the original like a glove it’s like the prequel was written before.

honourable mention (making lalo who he was from a throwaway line in breaking bad is so great)

CONCLUSION- both shows immaculate quality uplifts the others, and adds to the tragedy of the other
