Rant Why are we doing 35-40 on Bayfield street in the morning, are you drunk?

I really don’t understand. I wasn’t even in a rush, I never am, but I still don’t want to Sunday cruise my way to work.

Get insured and get a valid licence so you can drive confidently.

Question Pet owners- which insurance do you use?

I know there’s a few companies floating around out there and I’m looking for referrals and opinions!

My dog is a 5yo spayed female with no pre existing conditions. We do rehab (physical therapy) once a week as maintenance because she is getting older and is a mixed breed (lab/collie mostly).

Her little grey hairs are starting to appear and it has me thinking about the future 🥺

Looking For Halloween for toddlers

Hi everyone! We are planning to take our 18-month-old daughter out for her first real Halloween this year. We want to keep it pretty low-key so she doesn't get overwhelmed. Are there any specific streets or neighbourhoods that are great for little ones (not too spooky, well-lit, houses close together)? We’d also love to hear about any daytime or indoor community events that are toddler-friendly! Thanks in advance! 🙂

How to read this

Simcoe Muskoka’s inspection records classify infractions as critical or minor. Those are the health unit’s classifications, not ratings I’m assigning.

I’ve also kept Corrected During Inspection separate from Not in Compliance. Corrected During Inspection means the issue was addressed while the inspector was there. Not in Compliance means it was still recorded as non-compliant when the inspection was completed.

This roundup includes Barrie premises classified as Restaurant or Food Take Out, not every type of food premises inspected by the health unit.

Inspection results reflect what inspectors observed during that particular visit. They’re a snapshot in time, and records can change as new inspections and follow-ups happen, so check the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit inspection portal for the latest information.

Information I analyzed 42,582 King of the North Auction bids. 582 times, the same account bid on different items within one second.

I've been collecting and analyzing publicly visible bid histories from King of the North Auction (KOTN) in Barrie.

Rather than speculate about bots, I wrote a Python scraper and have been publishing the raw data, statistical analysis and methodology on GitHub.

The dataset now contains 42,582 bids through October 18, across 3,793 accounts. Today's activity is excluded to avoid comparing partial days against complete ones.

Something interesting emerged when I narrowed the analysis to bids occurring within just one second.

What I found

There were 614 instances where the same account placed consecutive bids within one second.

Of those:

  • 582 involved different auction listings.
  • 32 involved repeated bids on the same listing.
  • 612 occurred one second apart.
  • 2 had identical timestamps.

These aren't simply different people bidding at the same time. They're consecutive bids recorded under the same username.

Which accounts show this behaviour?

Account Bids on different items within 1 second
chikit1616 75
chanelbby 24
blindbuzz 15
libitsawati 14
snagy 12
kamill0220 12
tetiana1 12
whitneyhaz 12
joepro 11
mody161 11

The account chikit1616 recorded 75 such transitions across six observed dates.

This isn't a single unusually fast bidding session. The behaviour appears repeatedly across multiple days.

How unusual is this?

I previously identified 13 accounts that reached at least 15 bids in a rolling 60-second period across at least 10 different products.

I compared their one-second bidding activity against everyone else.

High-frequency group:
163 of 2,714 cross-listing transitions occurred within one second (6.0%).

All other accounts:
419 of 35,226 transitions occurred within one second (1.2%).

That's approximately five times the rate.

There is an important statistical limitation: the 13 accounts were originally selected because they bid quickly, so a higher rate is partly expected. It's still worth measuring how consistently that activity persists.

Does this prove bots?

No.

The timestamps have one-second precision, and I can't determine whether these bids were placed manually, through browser automation, or through another mechanism.

A fast bidder could be navigating a catalogue efficiently. Some accounts may be purchasing commercially rather than shopping casually.

The evidence establishes unusual bidding speeds, not the technology behind them.

Why investigate?

KOTN publishes rules prohibiting unauthorized automated bidding.

If those rules exist, I think it's reasonable to ask how they're enforced and whether the same rules apply to every bidder.

I'm continuing the analysis over a longer period, including account behaviour, product categories, auction outcomes and bidding sequences.

Everything is publicly available for independent inspection:

Research dashboard:
https://kotnanalysis-png.github.io/kotn-data-analysis/

Raw data and methodology:
https://github.com/kotnanalysis-png/kotn-data-analysis

I'm also developing a free Chrome extension that highlights auction listings where accounts meeting the high-frequency criteria have participated. It doesn't accuse anyone of being a bot.

Genuine question for other KOTN users: Have you ever managed to place bids on different items within one second using the regular website?

I'm particularly interested in whether the site's interface makes this possible through normal browsing.

The goal is to establish what the data actually demonstrates, not accuse individual bidders without evidence.

Politics Mayoral Campaign

Just saw a campaign commercial for our current mayor’s reelection campaign and he mentions that he cancelled the 4% storm water tax. That’s a tax that Barrie wanted to add that taxed us for the rain that falls on our properties and part of the justification behind it was that other municipalities already had it.

My concern with his commercial and him saying he cancelled it is that it was never implemented for him to cancel.

Misinformation seems to be a big part of politics these days and our current mayor has certainly been misinforming us.
Hopefully our current mayor will soon be our former mayor.

Get out and vote.

Looking For Any groups in Barrie area who practice American Sign Language (ASL)?

Hi, I was curious about any ASL communities in the Barrie area? I took my level 1 yearssss ago and havent really kept up with it too much, and wanted to get back into it. Ive always loved ASL and was curious about any group meet ups? I know Georgian college offers courses, but I actually would love to just find a community to learn with right now (in person). Thanks 💕

Looking For Anyone missing a cat?

I’ve noticed this cat hanging around the little pond at the end of Ellen Street for the past week. Looks like a well taken care of cat, but is shy and will run if you get too close. Is anyone missing a cat?
