To help reduce the repetitive questions, here are a few of the cheapest systems we are willing to recommend for a computer desktop:
$100: Edifier R1280T Powered Bookshelf Speakers Amazon (US) / Amazon (DE)
- Does not require a separate amplifier and does include cables.
$400: Kali LP-6 v2 Powered Studio Monitors Amazon (US) / Thomann (EU)
- Not sold in pairs, requires additional cables and hardware, available in white/black.
- Require a preamplifier for volume control - eg Focusrite Scarlett Solo
Setup troubleshooting and general help

Discussion Even been in the middle of a physically demanding equipment install and thought WTF am I doing this for? Delivery of 6 foot tall electrostatic tweeters
Yesterday I received a beey large crate with perhaps one of the best tweeters ever made. They are 6 feet tall and meant to stand next to my main 'stat panels.
(Once I install the footers they will be the same height as main panels)
Being in NYC I don't have place to store large crates, so I had to completely disassemble the crate and drag it on a dolly 6 blocks to my parking garage for storage.
While I'm pulling this unwieldy crate on a dolly, I'm really questioning my pursuit of this hobby.
Of course I'm extremely happy with the tweeters so far, and just beginning the process of dialing in the best voltage for the output I want, toe in of main panels, room treatment, etc, but has anyone else questioned their sanity during an install?

Show & Tell MoFi oh my
I can’t recommend this enough. I was hesitant because they’re sourced from digital masters, but the remastering and pressing is worth it. Listening to it on a LInn LP 12 Sondek, CH precision amp and preamp, Wattson/Madison phono stage, all transparent power and cables, and Wilson WATT puppies. If you live in or around Portland, Oregon, stop by Echo Audio/Definitive Audio, ask for Jason I’ll give you a listen.

Discussion this is my rew measurements is this fixable with eq or no?
measured with umik 1. Evo 5.3 + pb1000 pro , small room, 3.54m x 3.12m 2.62 height no treatment.
the 51 hz peak still persist when measuring the mains and the sub individually. is this room mode, anything i can do to make it better? or the peak is too high to tame and cutting it may cause some clipping? should i make a filter and apply it to my wiim mini. or this listening room is a lost cause?

Show & Tell Am I Audiophiling hard enough ?
I just bought this pair of Tri-Art Open 3 Reference. Not an easy speaker to setup so far. Lots of trial and error to do to set them up properly ahead.

Science & Tech USB cables discussion
Simple proof that they all sound different.
When I've tried sharing the technical explanation / papers (characteristic impedance, eye pattern), people are simply not willing to listen, because most "objectivists" lack basic preliminary knowledge of electrical engineering to understand these explanations.
But this proof is what every "objectivist" asks for, and you can do the blind A/B test yourself.
Please be nice to the youtube creators, they aren't me:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j6ohfWPfdCM&list=WL&index=9
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IYtaJ0qcZFs&list=WL&index=7&t=325s
And no, these youtubers aren't "fudging the results" with EQ or other, you can replicate this yourself at home.

Discussion Has anyone’s system attracted bees
Look I know this sounds like a shitpost, but it’s not. It’s real, and I agree it’s ridiculous, but it’s real.
So anyway, I posted pics of my dual sub build the other day. Several hours after I started using the subs, freaking bees started trying to make their way into our house. Like a small swarm, basically attacking the window right next to where my subs are. Terrible photo I know, but hopefully it’s ugh … evidence.
I mentioned it in the group chat and someone joked it would be funny if they were attracted to the bass.
So I searched it up and … yeah maybe.
So yeah - anyone else with subs had a bee problem?

Discussion Hippy's hand-me-down: Pioneer SA-8100. Gameplan?
My mom bought this new just before she went to college (1973?), and it has been in her basement for the last 30 years. I pulled it out and was thinking it would make a great office-listener if paired with KEF Q3 Metas, a lossless streamer, and a few vinyls here and there. What do y'all think?

Meta Kef r5 meta as a center?
My best buy had an open box r5 meta in good condition for $250💀 I bought it without even thinking about the use case so now I have to use it as a center until I can find another.

Discussion Cryo-treating things - thoughts?
Hey all,
thoughts on cryo treating things?
A little controversial... but really it shouldn't be.
-Bringing the temperature of something down to about negative 196C / 321F over a number of hours normally with liquid nitrogen.
- Ensuring it sits at that temp for a short period (overnight maybe?)
- cautiously bringing it back to to temp over a few days so it doesnt shatter
For anyone saying "snake oil" the material itself is clearly physicallychanged if you google it and easily visible under an electron microscope - completely different structure. It is not unreasonable to think it'll impact something.
I forgot until recently 20 years ago I got a bunch of speaker cables, rcas and 70 year old NOS vales/tubes done. My stereo still sounds incredible. It was more a matter of systematically trying to play around with eqch element that led me there. Not expensive to do at all. Failure at the time would have been expensive... $1K in tubes! (more like $5k now)
Anyone a materials expert?

Show & Tell My setup

Show & Tell Klipsch Reference Generation 1 (7-series) flagship reference line (released roughly 2001 to 2006) - worth resurrecting?
I bought these new at an old Circuit City just after the turn of the century before I knew anything about audio. Well I still don't know anything. They were used briefly with a Harman Kardon AVR20 II (50-60W Dolby Pro Logic) home theater receiver. So they've never been paired with a good stack.
Due to life events, they've been in storage for the last 15 years. Was wondering how "good" these speakers are (i.e., audiophile-tier?) and would it be worth it to invest in a new stack to get the Floor Speakers and Subwoofer resurrected, or not worth it?
- RF7 Cherry Floor Speakers (8 ohms, max 250 W)
- Utilizes dual 10-inch Cerametallic woofers and a 1.75-inch titanium diaphragm compression driver loaded into a 80°x60° Tractrix horn
- ~102 dB/W/m efficiency rating
- RSW 15 Cherry Subwoofer
- A front-firing 15-inch Cerametallic active driver paired with a rear-firing 15-inch passive radiator
- RC7 Cherry Center Speaker (8 ohms, max 125 W)
- RS7 White Surround Speakers (8 ohms, max 150 W)
I was considering acquiring the following stack. Would these make a synergistic pairing, assuming these speakers (just Floor and Subwoofer, not surrounds nor center channel) are worth resurrecting?
- Schiit Audio Bifrost 3 or Gungnir 2 DAC
- Schiit Audio Kara F preamp or Freya 2 tube preamp
- Schiit Audio Vidar 2F Stereo Power Amp

Discussion How do you discover the weakest component in your system (for upgrade)?
A HiFi system should have some Synergy of all components in order to achieve maximum auditory results.
The price of a particular component (if it is, for example, lower in rank than the others) is not a determinative indicator.
It is primarily the sound contribution of that component to the entire HiFi system.
You choose components according to specifications, measurements (if any) and finally by the sound they provide.
Personally, if I suspect that a component is a bottleneck in the system, I borrow a similar one (of a higher level) and try it in my system.
If the result is better aurally (and if it is in line with the Budget), I buy that one.
What do you think about all this?
P.S. The pictures show the last components of my system that I upgraded (except the first picture where the penultimate amp is)

Show & Tell Added value with McIntosh original box?
Sorry if this is wrong sub but I’m helping a friend with his father’s estate. Dad was only owner of some decent audio stuff with it never being moved in 50yrs except for servicing. Does the original box increase value? We listened to a record last week and all the equipment running great.

Music Need Advice
Good day all! Very new to this interest and wanting to make a decision soon and highly considering a Mark Levinson 5802. I only stream and have no interest with turntables and the like. Do I need a streamer for this or can I play Qobuz/Tidal directly from my iOS app using my phone/ipad? Will plan on using a USB-C to USB-B connection to the USB input if it does work. Any input is much appreciated!
