Question Anyone in Oil & Gas Marketing?

• Upvotes

Please help out a recent graduate here. I am trying to get into oil and gas marketing and have been studying about the rig equipment (top drive, mud pump, iron roughneck...) to get a better understanding of things. Now I know marketing in this industry is a little different form other industries, so I'm trying to understand how exactly do they market

  • I see posts saying LinkedIn marketing works. Help me understand how - do you just keep posting about your business or you use LinkedIn Ads or you keep messaging people?
  • Do oil and gas companies actively use Google Ads? How do they target decision-makers, what kind of campaigns do they use and are the costs worth it?
  • Since I have no direct industry experience, what skills should I focus on? Any tools, resources, cheat codes you'd recommend?

I'm just genuinely trying to understand and learn about this. I wanna learn how this industry works beyond the textbook stuff and figure out where I can bring value as a marketer. Thanks!

Question Best management style of teams - for CMOs & managers

I’m the CMO and co-founder of a growing startup, and our marketing team has now grown to 6 people.

As we’ve scaled, I’ve been rethinking how we structure our marketing meetings, specifically around **goal setting, tracking progress, accountability, and execution.**

I’m curious how other marketing leaders actually run their teams on a week-to-week basis. OR ALTERNATIVELY as someone who’s been part of a growing team, what system did you respond to best?

Are you using something like EOS / Level 10 meetings, weekly scorecards, OKRs, or a completely different system?

Question Omnisend vs GA4 attribution gap ($6k vs $1k) – how do you accurately measure email revenue?

Hey everyone,

I’m looking at our email marketing numbers and there’s a massive discrepancy between systems: Omnisend reports ~$6,000 in revenue, while GA4 (Data-Driven) attributes only ~$1,000 to email for the same period.

I know Omnisend tends to over-report (especially with open-based attribution) and GA4 under-reports due to privacy/tracking limits, but a 6x gap feels crazy 😄

How are you guys accurately measuring true email revenue and ROI? Do you rely on first-touch/last-touch, custom GA4 models, or a specific attribution tool?

Would love to hear how you deal with this. Thanks!

Question Anyone can help me get hired? I can pay if needed, experienced, not a scam.

Before everyone attacks me for fidning an easy way out, let me explain.

I'm a Copywriter turned CS and I already have decent (for a junior) experience both freelance and in agencies. I can drop company names privately. Several industries, both B2B and B2C.

I just finished a full time role at a Marketing Agency based over in Europe and I'm looking for my next role. It doesn't have to be full time tho I learned to prefer that. I created META, Google, YouTube, Reddit and other Social Media creatives both paid and organic content. I've worked with big editing, content and media buying teams and solo. I'm also experienced in scriptwriting and sales page copywriting, too.

Currently I'm using Upwork and had 8 interviews in the last 20-ish days but wanted to check out this thing, too.

I promise you, I'm not another kid trying to steal someone's money and run away. I'm just reaching out here to see if anyone's got some connections and wants to give me a shot. If you can and want to help out, thank you, I can pay if the results are there, if not, thanks for reading.

Question For people working on product positioning: how are you checking whether AI systems have caught up after a category change?

I ran a small experiment with 10 technical SaaS brands. The surprising part wasn’t whether systems knew the company names, they did in all 40 branded answers. It was whether their descriptions reflected the company’s current positioning: only 9 of 40 did so well.

I’m separating four questions now: brand recognition, current positioning, inclusion in an unbranded product shortlist, and rank within that shortlist.

Which of those has actually changed what your team does? And how do you separate a stable problem from one noisy answer?

Question What are your experiences with cloud phones? Any providers you'd recommend?

I've recently been looking into cloud phones as an alternative to buying and managing lots of physical devices, especially for social media management and handling multiple accounts with a remote team.

The idea of having separate Android devices that you can access from anywhere sounds pretty convenient, but I'm still trying to figure out which providers are actually worth using.

I saw providers like StackPhones while researching different options, but I'd love to hear about other providers as well before making a decision of putting all my clients acc on those phones :)

For those of you who have actually used cloud phones:

• Which provider are you using, and how has your experience been so far?

• How reliable are the devices when running apps for extended periods?

• How does the pricing compare when you're managing a larger number of devices?

• Have you experienced any issues with performance, downtime, or customer support?

I'm particularly interested in real-world experiences rather than just what the providers advertise, thank you!

Question From Omnicom to WPP in Latam – advice for someone new

Hi everyone!

I recently changed jobs, moving from one of the Omnicom agencies (or, more precisely, from one of the IPG brands—pre-merger) to a strategy role at WPP Media in Latin America.

I’d love to get some general advice: what are the highlights of working at WPP? Are there specific tools or platforms worth learning (like WPP Open, for example)? On the flip side, what are the potential downsides or things I should keep an eye on as I settle into this new role/company?

It would also be very useful to get your perspectives—from those of you working with WPP in markets outside of Latin America—to understand how you compare competitively in terms of transformation and related areas...

Any and all advice is more than welcome, thank you so much!

Question Why is marketing in Dubai increasingly being treated as sales?

Is it just me, or has marketing in Dubai basically become another name for sales?

I've been noticing this pattern where companies expect marketers to generate leads, convert those leads, and then measure their entire performance based on how many actually turn into paying customers.

Some even offer compensation based on conversions. Like, "Whatever leads convert, we'll pay you accordingly."

But since when did marketing become entirely responsible for closing sales?

Marketing is a much broader function. Brand awareness, positioning, content creation, website traffic, campaign strategy, performance marketing, lead generation, customer engagement, and so much more.

And don't even get me started on the expectations from one person. You're supposed to be a graphic designer, copywriter, social media manager, performance marketer, SEO specialist, video editor, strategist, and apparently a salesperson too.

I completely understand that marketing needs to contribute to revenue. That's ultimately the goal. And yes, lead quality matters. But shouldn't there be a distinction between generating qualified leads and actually converting them?

A marketer can bring in 100 genuinely interested prospects, but if the sales team doesn't follow up properly or can't close them, how is that entirely a marketing failure?

I'm genuinely curious if other marketers in Dubai are experiencing this too.

Are companies misunderstanding what marketing actually does, or has the definition of a marketing role genuinely changed?

Question Social media - How do you manage all the platforms?

Hi social media marketers!

I've been working in organic social media marketing for a few years and recently started at a big company to do their organic socials for 3 countries. They want to do instagram, tiktok, facebook and LinkedIn. Their instagram and tiktok is for employer branding, and linkedin is more business and new customer related. Facebook is a bit of both.

The wish is to post 2+ times a week on all platforms for each country, and this is where my problem is. It feels impossible to stay in contact with everyone in the business that tells me what's going on in the countries, shoot multiple video's per week, write about what we're doing, who's doing it and at the same time recruit as much employees as I can through the content. I feel like I'm drowning in a thousand to do's every single day.

So my question is - how do you balance all these platforms with different strategies for each platform? Is there something I can do to make it more doable for myself?

Question Landing a marketing job after switching fields

My undergraduate degree is in Conputer Science and Engineering and after that I worked as a QA for 1.5 years but theb found interest in marketing and did courses like the Google digital marketing and e-commerce course in coursera and simultaneously started posting on social media as well.I want to get into a domain that has a connection to my engineering background so like performance marketing or growth marketing roles.

After finishing my course and finally understanding about marketing and its different areas I now want to pursue a masters degree in Digital Marketing in the UK. Although I can get an admission into the course and colleges from my background, my real concern is about landing a job after my degree as I have no real experience and moreover i will be competing against candidates with their ug in marketing as well.

So my question to marketing professionals is can I build a good enough profile during my Masters so I can create a good portfolio and land a job? or is it just too ambitious to think so?

Please give me your expertise and tips on how I can build a strong profile to transition smoothly into the Marketing field.

Question Project marketing on a early stages

Hey everyone, I’m currently working on my project (a mobile App for solo women traveling), that will potentially become a start up.

Now I’m in the ideation phase and as next I will start a prototype. My question is if it makes sense to start promoting and creating visibility for my project now and if so, what is the best approach to do that?

I heard some about LinkedIn posts about the process and some landing page with waitlists, but does that really work? Maybe someone had experience with that?

Also I’m like zero in marketing but I believe that without marketing also a good idea will die. Any suggestions about good resources for learning marketing? Maybe YouTube, books etc?

Thanks 😊

Question Does Structured Data Help AI Systems Understand a Website More Accurately?

Structured data helps AI systems interpret a website’s content, context, and relationships more clearly by providing information in a standardized, machine-readable format. This can help AI systems understand what a page represents more accurately, although it does not guarantee better rankings or AI search visibility.

Question Should I give Meta ads another chance or stop after losing money ?

I'm a first-time ebook seller with no existing audience and a very small budget. I've spent ₹654 (approximately $7.50) on Meta ads and made just 2 sales. I'm now running at a loss and can't decide whether to give ads another try or stop spending and rethink my approach.

My setup:

  • Product: Self-improvement ebook priced at ₹149 (originally shown as ₹499)
  • Platform: Topmate, where name, email, and phone number are mandatory at checkout
  • Ads: Single static image on Instagram and Facebook
  • Target audience: India, ages 18–35, using interest-based targeting and Advantage+ audience
  • Campaign objective: Sales, optimized for Purchase
  • Payment: Prepaid UPI wallet, with 18% GST added to the amount deposited

My results so far:

Test 1 (1 day, ₹254 net ad spend)

  • Reach: 1,547
  • CTR: 1.81%
  • CPC: ₹8.18
  • Link clicks: 31
  • Payment forms opened: 6
  • Purchases: 1

Test 2 (planned for 3 days at ₹100/day, but Meta spent the budget in just 2 days)

  • Net ad spend: ₹242
  • Reach: 1,742
  • CTR: 1.91%
  • CPC: ₹6.93
  • Link clicks: 34
  • Landing page views: 11
  • Purchases: 1

Total spent: ₹654 ($7.50), including GST, for 2 sales.

What I think might be wrong:

  1. Only 11 out of 34 link clicks resulted in landing page views in my second test. I'm wondering whether the Instagram in-app browser, slow loading, or large images could be causing people to leave before the page loads.
  2. Two sales aren't enough data to judge the conversion rate reliably.
  3. After accounting for GST and platform fees, I'm spending more to acquire a customer than I earn from each sale, so the current approach isn't profitable.

I'm confused about what to do next. I've already spent more than I earned, and since my budget is limited, I don't want to keep throwing money at ads if there's a fundamental problem with my approach.

I'd appreciate honest advice on whether these results justify another small test or whether I should rethink my strategy before spending anything more.

Question What AI tools are actually worth using for marketing?

I've been using AI here and there for things like brainstorming, campaign planning, writing posts and email ideas but there are so many tools now that I'm not sure what's genuinely useful.

I'd love to hear what other marketers are using to save time or make their day to day work easier. Any tools or automations you've actually kept using?
