General Question Trump says he could be 'the last republican president', Is that good or bad?
66
u/Haunting_Lime2296 9h ago
Wonder why he’s destroyed his party
60
u/pete_68 9h ago
Because everything he touches turns to shit. Witness Trump University, Trump Steaks, Trump Magazine, Trump Shuttle, Trump Mortgage, Trump: The Game, GoTrump.com, Trump Taj Mahal, Trump Castle Associates, Trump Plaza Hotel and Casino, The Plaza Hotel, Trump Hotels and Casino Resorts, and of course, Trump Entertainment Resorts.
Surely I've missed a few dozen of his other failed business ventures.
Republicans sure know how to pick a guy who doesn't know how to do jack shit.
28
u/Scrops 9h ago
Except human trafficking. A lot of people have testified and provided evidence he was pretty good at that

Playing devil's advocate here, if he sucks at everything else, why wouldn't he suck at that, which begs the question did he actually try, and why don't we have more evidence of his failure?
8
u/stephenalloy 9h ago
Perhaps because the business model of human trafficking is human destruction, which he's quite skilled at.

u/Nub_Shaft 8h ago
There's 3 million pages of evidence yet to be seen that most likely spell it all out.
6

You're asking why we don't have evidence of human trafficking from the guy that controls the evidence of human trafficking?
Am I tracking you here correctly?

Putin's Russian Oligarchy is probably a cheaper alternative to semi-, quasi- "democracy." Who knew that two viable options meant Citizens United Stout and Citizens United Lite?

u/white-blade877 8h ago edited 3h ago
Trump is Republican?? I thought Republicans were FOR the constitution and against taxation. Tarrifs are a tax on imports paid by Americans. He had declared born Americans to be stripped of their rights and imprisoned without trial. Imagine you went back 20 years and said Democrats had done that and their leader was anti Nato after a KGB paid trip to Moscow.
32
u/xikbdexhi6 7h ago
They are against taxation of the rich. They are pro-tax of commoners though, because their bail-outs need funding.

I mean I also thought Republicans were not Russian puppets, and were against socialist actions like handing out $5000 dollar checks just to buy elections. Somehow he's convinced all the current Republicans that all those previous Republicans were RINOs. He's also convinced the religious right that somehow he's not an unholy demon sent bring the worst out of mankind.
30
u/CaminoBalanced 9h ago
I just want to send a big thank you to the Republicans out there for exposing yourselves and letting us all know who and what you are. We'll all be steering clear of you, and especially your politicians from now on. May you get all the shit you deserve.

Bad, but we definitely need a loooong break from the GOP being in power. Hopefully this horrible 2nd term sinks the party for a long time

If the GOP was to dissolve and go away forever. There would just be a new party to fill the void. We’ve pretty much had a two-party system for all of our 250 years. Long before the modern Republicans and Democrats
3
u/FunnyMTGplayer75 8h ago
Time for the parties to split then. Republicans ate Maga, Conservative party forms to be the more sane branch of the right wing. Democrats stay as the moderate centrist party. Then we can have a progressive party form.
Once a multi party system is in place, REAL politics will hapoen, and all 4 parties would have to work with each other

Unfortunately it won’t. I personally only know 2 republicans out of at least 20 who are upset with the Republican Party. The rest of them are 100% going to vote republican again, probably for the rest of their lives. Don’t count your chickens before they hatch.

u/Lumpy-Scratch-8363 9h ago
Hopefully. Not sure why we ever needed a fascist party with a cult leader. I don't remember any sane person asking for that.
The Democrats could easily replace the traditional - pre MAGA - Republican Party. Bill Clinton did NAFTA after all. And Obamacare is really RomneyCare, a plan from a Republican governor. Should fit like a glove if you want traditional conservative values preserved.
To counter the Democrats, it would be really cool to have an actual progressive party that might be considered "center" in Europe. Or even slightly left of center.
Please don't say "communist". If we don't like Trump's run as supreme leader what makes you think we'd like communist-style authoritarian bullshit like Putin? Same story, different title. We need the new progressives to be like the old ones: FDR, Truman and even Eisenhower. Men who looked after the little guy and not just the ultra rich.
11
u/No-Turnover6758 9h ago
Because about 31% of Americans are NOT SANE. They are driven by hatred and conspiracy theories. I cannot believe that a Q Anon was the WC Press Secretary. Please get us out of this fucking time line somebody.
5
u/petulant-turnip 8h ago
Well, the insane people had their go at government and this is what they did. And even the insane people are starting to go quiet. They need to STFU and if they can’t admit they fucked everything up, just crawl back to whatever delusional hell hole they were in. Most importantly, this should always be held up as the time America was at its worst, under Trump and MAGA, when these idiots finally got their hands on power, they fucked it up, they had two chances at it. Enough!
9
u/Size---Queen 8h ago
I have said this before as well Dems move to what Republicans are and we get a real progressive party for the left.
The Overton window has shifted so far right we need to drag it back to the left for balance.

Communism is misrepresented. It’s a style of economic policies, what people call Communism is authoritarianism.
6
u/Lumpy-Scratch-8363 8h ago
In practice, they were just strong men doing what strong men do. Same as fascists. Same as MAGA.
China is the largest communist country in the world. It is by far the most capitalist place I have ever visited - everyone trying to make a buck (yuan). Capitalism out of control if I am being frank. Another strong oligarchy at the top, state surveillance and if you piss off your betters, you die.
So you'll just say they are no longer communist right? Ok. So who is or was? No one?
I am a Democratic socialist and can find real, functioning countries out there that represent my ideal like most of Scandinavia. They are the same kind of capitalist that I am, the kind that could have shared a beer with President Eisenhower and he wouldn't think once about trying to contain them; he would try to find ways to copy them. Capitalism must be regulated; there must be a social network for the weak, the sick and the old; we must promote and spread knowledge and support truth; and make money responsibly. I'd be pretty happy just to go back to before Reagan sold out the middle class but ideally we'd study the Scandinavians instead and adapt what makes sense for us.

u/cheesefist_ 8h ago
Trickle down economics is the biggest grift since Trump said he would release the Epstien files
3
u/Lumpy-Scratch-8363 8h ago
It was just a way of stealing from the middle class and transferring that wealth to the ultra rich. If that's your goal, then it's been very successful.
→ More replies (1)5
u/Csmitty2112 8h ago
Communism was also inspired by a lot of the behaviors you can see in small tight knit rural communities. The problem is that you cant really base a large scale system off of those without a totalitarian government which is ripe for corruption. And that is the main reason every communist country has failed. It just isn't a practical system on a large scale.
→ More replies (14)6
u/Lumpy-Scratch-8363 8h ago
Correct, Communism, as envisioned by Marx is a fantasy. The fact it keeps evolving into a horror show tells you all you need to know about it. A system of economics that doesn't work well with actual humans is not a good system.
But democratic socialism as practiced by the Scandinavians is a model for the world. It is capitalism with conscience, with a soul.

Don't make promises you can't keep, Donny boy.
I mean, I wouldn't mind if the whole GOP imploded and was replaced by a new conservative party (back to the fiscal conservative party of small government and lower taxes, not another pedo-religious cult), but that isn't going to happen over night.
5
u/Evil_phd 9h ago
That would be nice, but unfortunately every other person I know falls for it every time when Republicans say that Dems are doing a bad job of cleaning up the mess that Republicans made.
6
u/Ambitious-Ant5739 9h ago
He might be the last Republican president, but he will not be the last ultra conservative president. Nor the last president of any party who isn't bought and paid for by corporations and oligarchs unless we get rid of lobbying and take money out of politics.
6
6
u/Haytaytay 9h ago
He will fracture the party on his way out.
There is no "heir" to the MAGA movement, and his family controls all of the GOP funding. Once his term ends, the rest of the Republican party will want to form a new vision for the future but the Trump family will be wholly devoted to sabotaging it. All of the hatred and vitriol that they have been directing towards liberals will instead go towards attacking conservatives who don't fall in line.
He will be like an anchor tied around their legs, dragging them down and refusing to let go.

The octogenarian will soon be gone but it will take decades for this country -if indeed we it ever does- to climb out of the hole he is digging. We have lost all credibility with our neighbors and allies, destroyed all of our trading partnerships and weakened our military. He will go down in history as the most corrupt and incompetent president ever. As an ex-Republican I sincerely hope he is the last Republican president.
