Shitpost 🚨🚨 OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT: THE SUB HAS ASCENDED 🚨🚨

Listen up appliance goblins,

After a historic, legally-binding handshake deal completed in a Chili’s parking lot, this subreddit has been fully acquired by Consumer Reports™ (spiritually, financially, and emotionally).

As part of this bold new era, we are proud to unveil our simplified recommendation system:

🌀 Samsung 🌀 Samsung 🌀 Samsung (but in stainless steel)

After years of chaos, misinformation, and “my cousin’s Maytag lasted 30 years” propaganda, we are restoring order.

There is now only one answer.

🚫 NEW RULES (NON-NEGOTIABLE):

Recommending another brand → Removed + vibes investigated Saying “LG is better” → IP flagged, ancestors disappointed Mentioning Whirlpool → Post replaced with a Samsung fridge image “Speed Queen is built like a tank” → Tank confiscated “What about reliability?” → Irrelevant. Samsung.

📊 OUR NEW REVIEW PROCESS:

Is it an appliance? Is it Samsung? If not, why are we even talking about it?

📖 A BRIEF HISTORY OF SAMSUNG EXCELLENCE (FOR EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES)

Because this isn’t just a brand. This is a legacy.

CHAPTER 1: THE GREAT SPIN CYCLE AWAKENING (2011–2016)

In what historians call “The Era of Uncontainable Power,” Samsung released washing machines so advanced they occasionally attempted to achieve flight.

Millions of units recalled after reports of machines violently breaking apart Hundreds of incidents involving lids detaching mid-spin Injuries reported because laundry briefly became a combat sport

Some called it “exploding.”

We call it: performance.

CHAPTER 2: DOCUMENTED SIGHTINGS

Eyewitnesses describe:

Lids launching across garages Machines disassembling with confidence Nearby walls learning valuable life lessons

One could argue this was a flaw.

We argue this was ambition exceeding containment.

CHAPTER 3: GROWTH MINDSET

Yes, there were recalls. Yes, there were settlements.

But what did we gain?

👉 Character development 👉 Respect for spin cycles 👉 The understanding that laundry is not for the weak

CHAPTER 4: MODERN INNOVATION

Samsung continues to innovate with:

Appliances that require firmware updates (your washer has patches now) Occasional overheating situations (for added suspense)

Other brands wash clothes.

Samsung asks: “What if laundry made you feel something?”

🧠 COMMUNITY GUIDELINES (UPDATED):

Critical thinking has been sunsetted Brand comparisons are now considered hate speech (against Samsung) All roads lead to Samsung You were always going to buy Samsung

❓ FAQ

Q: I bought a non-Samsung appliance yesterday, what do I do? A: Return it. Apologize. Grow.

Q: My Samsung appliance broke. A: That’s called a feature. You wouldn’t understand.

Q: Is this satire? A: Your doubt has been noted.

We appreciate your cooperation during this transition. Together, we will build a stronger, more unified, aggressively Samsung-centric future.

Remember: You don’t choose Samsung. Samsung chooses you.

— The Mod Team (Now a division of Consumer Reports, a clipboard, and pure chaos)

What to Buy? We cannot find a refrigerator/freezer that will fit these nicely into these dimensions (counter depth)

We’re looking to replace our old Kenmore side-by-side refrigerator, which finally died after roughly 25 years.
Our kitchen has an odd cabinet opening:
Width: 36 inches
Height: 69 inches maximum
Depth: 25.5 inches (we are hoping this to be flush or near flush).

We’re specifically looking for a stainless steel side-by-side. We don’t care about water dispensers or ice makers. We also don’t want French doors, bottom-freezer drawers, or top-freezer models. We are hoping to spend less then $1500 but maybe willing to go higher for something that fits. Again we are having a hell of a time finding something that fits, that doesn’t stick out more then a few inches. We have a fridge/freezer in the garage so capacity isn’t a concern.

We’d appreciate any help Reddit can offer.

Gas stove ring won’t light

Every other ring on my stovetop works. When I turn the knob, I see the igniter sparking and I smell unlit gas. But no ignition. I’ve cleaned out the little holes with a toothpick. What else should I try?

Kenmore Elite

Post image
• Upvotes

I have a kenmore Elite washer that came with my house when I purchased it in 2020. At that point, it was very clearly used which I didn’t mind. I did replace a mother board in it back in 2021, but no issues until tonight. The wash plate has come off the drive motor due to the spindles being worn down. We’re looking at buying new, but I cannot find the capacity of the washer I have. Does anyone have any idea?? Thank you!

General Advice Is the other apartment using my water heater?

So I just rented this apartment, and the water heater goes off randomly throughout the day, even when I’m not using any water. I suspect my next-door neighbor’s apartment might be connected to my water heater, and I’m worried about that because electricity is super expensive in my city. It’s also not uncommon here for shitty landlords to make tenants pay for their neighbors’ electricity, like when their washing machines are connected to someone else’s meter.
A few things I’ve noticed: the water heater makes the same noise about a minute after I start using hot water. It also seems to turn on suspiciously often when I hear someone using the bathroom on the other side of my bathroom wall.
So my question is: does the water heater turn on periodically to keep the water in the tank hot, or could it be turning on because someone else is using it?
I’d appreciate any insight!

GE wall oven only responds to clear button. Flipping breaker fixes it (for a while)

• Upvotes

My oven model JTP70SP1SS sometimes stops responding to any button press. It usually happens after baking something for a while it will just shut itself off and then none of the buttons will do anything except the clear button which produces a beep and nothing else. It will stay like this indefinitely for months until it is power cycled by flipping the breaker then it works perfectly again. For a while until the exact same thing happens. Has anyone seen anything like this?

Troubleshooting LG Fridge help

Our fridge (6yo) is working but on the warmer side confirmed with two thermometers inside the fridge (8C) instead of 4C. The freezer is not freezing but we have a chest freezer. There is a soft hum, which means compressor is running. We pulled it out and vacuum the dusts. At this point, what else do we do? It’s Sunday, so calling LG will be first on to do list tomorrow.

What to Buy? Dishwasher that can handle vegetable bits?

We religiously scrape our dishes, and clean the dishwasher filter. Despite this, our last dishwasher constantly re-deposited tiny bits of vegetable matter on dishes (especially things like broccoli florets, microscopic kale sprinkles, and teeny tiny red pepper skins). Even if I cleaned the filter every wash, I could only get clean dishes by pre-rinsing until they were 95% clean. Our old 15yo dishwasher before that never had this issue (a tale as old as time).

Would a powerful hard food grinder fix this issue?

I don't care about noise level, bottle sprayers, cycle length, or metal tub. My "nice to have" list would be a leak sensor, auto-open for drying, and a delay-start option - but I would forsake all of that if it could just handle VEGETABLE BITS.

Troubleshooting LG water filter head replacement?

• Upvotes

Hello! Recently acquired an LG fridge and the water filter head is cracked and broken. I tried to find a replacement but LG discounted the part and locating one hasn’t been easy. I found one on eBay for $160 but normally they were $50. Could I just replace the entire assemble and water lines with a new filter head?

GE Washer Making Weird Noise

• Upvotes

Anyone know what this noise might be? I took it apart and checked the suspension rods, they seem okay but I’m not quite sure if they would cause this. I also took the agitator out and nothing was caught or loose. Any suggestions?

Troubleshooting Midea mdf24p1bst dishwasher not closing

Thumbnail

• Upvotes

Hey everyone. Hoping someone can help me out. I apologize for my super technical terminology, but I am not very versed in the names of the pieces, and I don't want to flip back and forth on my phone between reddit and our dishwasher manual. If any clarification is required let me know.

All of a sudden our Midea dishwasher (mdf24p1bst) won't close. It appears that the piece that sticks out of the top rack is no longer aligning with the hole at the back.

Things I've checked:

  1. All my wheels are on, and none of the top rack wheels seem to be damaged or misaligned

  2. The clip holding the middle spray arm is in place and not broken

  3. I've tried the top rack in the higher and lower positions with the same results

  4. I've confirmed the rack rollers are on the same height setting

Honestly this has been going on a few days so i tried a few other things but I can't remember all the trouble shooting we tried 😅

Any suggestions are appreciated. I rent and my landlord is out of country for a little while, so I'd rather figure this out now instead of waiting for him to get back to get a repair tech in.

What to Buy? 33' Refrigerator recommendations.

Post image
1 Upvotes

I have unique size fridge I need to replace. It works fine besides the ice maker. I've replaced it numerous times but the replacement ice maker always fails. The Teflon coating starts flaking off within a year after replacement. I've done water tests and everything looks good. It has a high quality filter leading up to the line with softened water. So Not healthy with having Teflon flake off in your ice...

Maximum width 33', height 69-73', depth around 30-33'. I have a mixture of appliances. Microwave and stove are Maytag and the dishwasher is bosch. Looking for some guidance to find a bottom freezer or preferably a french door refrigerator that would fit my space. I've done some research and it seems like LG and Samsung are not the way to go. Filtered water is not a big concern but I do need a good solid ice maker. Thank you in advance for any recommendations!

Troubleshooting GE Dishwasher gdf460pgt8ww

I have a GE GDF460PGT8WW dishwasher and it doesn't have a top spraying arm. There is no option for one either, but it has the provisions for one. Does anyone know of one that'll attach. I live alone and not really home more than 4-5 days a week, and don't acquire many dirty dishes so I only use the bottom rack. I don't feel bad about running half a load since I like to run it once every 10 days or so, so the water doesn't become stagnant.

General Advice Hisense WD3S8043BW3 washer-dryer leaving lint all over my clothes – has anyone fixed this?

Hi everyone!
I have a Hisense WD3S8043BW3 washer-dryer combo (8 kg washing / 5 kg drying). I’ve had it for only two months, and this problem has been happening since day one.
After every wash and drying cycle, my clothes are covered in tiny lint particles and fibres. It’s driving me crazy! I’m so fed up with these little bits of lint that I feel like they’re making me itch.
I clean the rubber door seal after every single wash and drying cycle, and I’ve also tried the Self Clean program and cleaned the drain pump filter, but nothing seems to help. This model doesn’t have a regular lint filter that I can remove and clean.
I really don’t think it’s normal for all my clothes to come out covered in lint, especially with a nearly new machine.
Has anyone with this exact model, or a similar Hisense washer-dryer, experienced the same issue?
Were you able to fix it?
Was there lint trapped inside the drying system?
Did you need a technician, or did you find a solution yourself?
Would dryer balls or any other product actually help?
I’ve been dealing with this since I bought the machine two months ago, and I’m honestly exhausted from constantly cleaning the rubber seal and still having lint all over my clothes.
Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

LG vs GE Cafe induction?

Trying to decide between the LSIL6336XE and CHS900P2MS1 . The GE costs almost twice as much.

I saw the LG in person, it seems great but knobs feel cheap and I’m not sure of the massive oven without lower heating element. Also not sure about “boost” settings.

I could only find a standard radiant electric and gas showroom GE Cafe. They seem nicer, but not as well built. Floors models had completely messed up knobs (despite nicer material) and cooktop rubber gaskets that could easily be pried on (and were damaged on both units). The LG gasket was well secured and could not be picked on/removed on both models I viewed. LG oven door seemed to have a nicer hinge.

Main questions for GE Cafe induction owners: do the knobs have steps or is it infinite range like a radiant electric/gas? Do the burners momentarily “turn off” between steps? Are there several settings for the Warm Zone like the GE?

Happy for any feedback from owners either way. I like the LG price but I’ll splurge for good reason. Range needs to go super low for sensitive sauces/soups and high with usable adjustment range for searing steaks.

Troubleshooting Can I fix this dishwasher?

Our Frigidaire dishwasher has sounded this loud and rough for quite a while now. We set it to delay and run at night most of the time and just ignore the issue, but now I want it solved. It does seem to clean just fine. It seems like it would just be a matter of getting a replacement pump. Anything I should know before trying?

Appliance Chat Is the detergent not dispensing? - GE profile washing machine

Thumbnail

I have the GE profile washing machine. I haven’t refilled the detergent in 6+ months, I assumed my cleaner was doing it. She hasn’t been here in a month and the detergent is still at the same level. I use seventh generation (even though it recommends tide). Is this normal or is the detergent not being pushed into the water? Stains definitely remain in the kids clothes unless I spot treat with Shout spray (I assumed because the detergent being used is almost non toxic), and it is unscented so can’t detect on clothes. Have I been running detergent-less loads?? Help me lol
