Help me convince my husband we need a Speed Queen

It’s definitely time for a new washer. Ours is leaking from the bottom, husband is tired of fixing it. I am advocating for a SpeedQueen, but he is balking at the price. We both bring income into the house, we both make financial decisions together. I do the majority of the laundry.

I say we buy it and we spend that $1500 once and have a quality washer for the rest of our lives. He says it’s hard to do that when walking past $800 washers that work just fine. My counter argument is that an $800 washer might last 10 years and then that same washer may be $1500 to replace.

Please come get in my marriage and give your opinions!

My clothes are constantly getting tightly spun around each other in my washing machine. Is there anything I can do?

It’s driving me crazy. I just pulled out a bunch…eight different long sleeved shirts and jeans all tightly wrapped around each other. I can’t imagine what to do about this, and I’m frustrated because how can something get clean if they’re wound up like this? My older washing machine didn’t have this problem.

I can't exactly stomach the $50 and $70 price tags of the Samsung DC66-00470B and DC66-00470A shock absorbers which need replacing in my $600 washer. If the specs can be identified for certain, wouldn't I be able to replace them with generic shock absorbers that are not so expensive?

Also, if going with generic shocks that match these specs closely enough are not available, are there any cheaper options you guys would recommend?

Also, according to Gemini, allegedly pulled from amazon:

Front Shock Absorbers (x2)

• Samsung Part Number: DC66-00470A • Unextended (Static) Length: 7-5/8 inches (approx. 194 mm) • Fully Extended Length: 11 inches (approx. 280 mm) • Bore / Eyelet Hole Diameter: 10 mm (for standard plastic locking pins) • Damping Force / Resistance Rating: 60 Newtons (60N)

Rear Shock Absorbers (x2)

• Samsung Part Number: DC66-00470B • Unextended (Static) Length: 7-3/4 inches to 7-1/2 inches depending on the generic housing factory (approx. 190–197 mm) • Fully Extended Length: 9 inches (approx. 228 mm) • Bore / Eyelet Hole Diameter: 10 mm • Damping Force / Resistance Rating: 70 Newtons (70N).

Any ideas? Thanks.

General Advice Appliance repair scam?

My microwave is broken, and the appliance manufacturer dispatched a third-party repair company to come under warranty.

On the day of the repair, crickets, and then after business hours, I get a text from a random non-business number repeatedly demanding my appliance order receipt.

I ask the guy who he is, and he says he’s from an appliance repair company, but refuses to give an ETA, unless I give him the receipt. He’s also texting unprofessionally.

My alarm bells are going off, so I refuse to give him my appliance receipt until he gives me an ETA of when he will be here, he just stops responding.

I have the guy’s name from his caller ID, the company he claims to work for says they don’t have any employee under that name.

Did I do something wrong? Further research says the repair company needs a receipt to bill the appliance manufacturer for the repair, but asking for it before arrival, and so suspiciously and rudely seemed too off for me.

Have any of yall found a blender thats worth a damn?

My old bullet died recently. I bought a new one from Walmart, immediately noticed the drop in quality. Weak plastic, light weight, but it worked well.. for a week. I cant believe it died so soon. I just make smoothies! Please recommend me a good, affordable blender. Thanks!

What to Buy? Any Experience with Whirlpool Heat Pump Washer/Dryers (YWFH5424SJ)?

I'll try and keep it short:

I'm considering buying the Whirlpool YWFH5424SJ heat pump washer/dryer and was wondering if anyone here has experience with this particular model, or any Whirlpool Heat Pump Models.

The warrenty does seem kinda short and they do look far newer to market than LG or GE. Any issues or regrets compared to traditional vented dryers? Hoping to have something easier on clothes.

Looking to replace my Sears Kenmore Super Capacity 3.5 (20 yrs old atp)

Would appreciate any long-term feedback or advice you may have. Thanks!

What is happening to my washer.

This washer was purchased in 2021 and I have had to replace the control board (2022), the wash plate (Nov 2025), the water inlet valve (Sep 2026) and now it's grinding again. Is this covered under their famous "10 Year" warranty or do I need to start looking for Black Friday deals on a different brand?

I called Maytag and they want to see me a monthly service plan....

Are we using this machine wrong? I just don't know if I should keep buying parts or replace it.

Solid metal pin found in Samsung washing machine

Hi all,

I found this solid metal pin inside the fold of the rubber door gasket of my Samsung front loading washing machine. (Model WW70T4543AE/EG)

It is 6cm long and 7mm thick. 100% solid steel.

I'm certain it didn't come from anything we washed, and it was simply lying in the fold.

A technician checked the machine about half a year ago because the drum already had some play. He said it might last another year or two.

The machine has been running like this without changes, but now this pin showed up. Now I also hear some scraping/grinding when moving the drum manually.

Does anyone recognize this part or have any idea where it might come from? Is it safe to continue using the machine or is it dead? I am afraid it is some internal component that has come loose.

Thanks!

How do I connect fridge to water line

Thumbnail

I don't know what im doing and I can't find a straightforward answer that perfectly fits my fridge.

It's a samsung and it makes ice in the freezer only. There's this loose blue line which is the only hose so I assume it's what needs to connect to my water.

Clearly I am missing some kind of connector or something though.

Let me know, thanks!

Samsung HAF-QIN Water Filter Review

When it comes to replacement water filters, nothing beats Samsung's genuine replacement. No leaks, not drama, just twist out the old one and twist the new one in. These filters are consistent in performance and we can always rely on great tasting water and ice.

Troubleshooting Hoover 10kg Timber Dryer - What Light Does This Mean?

Post image

I have cleaned every removable part on this Tumble Dryer, that started with Error 21. So cleaned, reset the button and didn't get error anymore... But still says "Clean The Filter" after an empty 20 minute cycle.

What other part than the filter, the tank and the condenser could possibly need cleaning? Does this red light symbol tell me exactly which piece it needs?

Have tried YouTube and they all show everything I have done, condenser in the shower getting it super clean etc.

Questions for replacing this stand alone fridge with a built in fridge

Post image
7 Upvotes

The current space measures 70.25 in (height) x 36.5 in (width). Most built in fridge options are around 84 in high, and require certain points of attachment in addition to power supply and water hook ups. To accommodate the height, we'll have to remove the cabinet above the current fridge.

What I need to know is what kind of attachments does a built in fridge like sub zero have? Are they bolted to the sides, back and top? Also, what might you recommend doing with the extra space above the new fridge once installed? Smaller cabinet? That might look funny so I'm just looking for mother ideas. Thanks!

Troubleshooting Bosch dishwasher smv50c00gb/01 flashing tap symbol

My dishwasher has a flashing tap symbol at the moment. It turns on and runs, it sounds like some sort of motor is running. It does this for a couple of minutes and then beeps 3 times.

The tap symbol then flashes.

I cleaned out the internal filter and tried again, no luck

I then pulled it out and cleaned out the water inlet pipe, the small red filter. It wasnt too bad, but i cleaned it anyway

When doing this is obviosuly had to tip and pull out the unit, when I did i noticed fairly dirty brown water pool out. Not a massive amount, maybe 50/100mls

I put it back together and done a load with no dishes and it worked perfectly.

I tried a second load with dishes, and it stopped half way. Its now back to square 1, when it turns on it repeats the steps I mentioned at the start.

What further diagnostic steps can I take?

Im thinking either I need to renew the inlet pipe and motor, or maybe something is leaking internally and causing trouble?

Any help would be much appreciated

Welp. It looks like my 35 year old Whirlpool fridge is giving it up. We're not interested in bells and whistles. Dependability matters most. I expect it will be costly but please help me make my money count. Thanks group.

What to Buy? Standard-depth fridge with equivalent of Bosch's VitaFresh for fresh produce lasting longer?

Are there refrigerator brands that claim to have something similar to Bosch's VitaFresh system to keep produce fresh for longer, BUT offer the fridge in a standard-depth rather than counter-depth?

We are looking for a French-door, bottom-freezer fridge that's 36" wide and close to 36" deep. We are curious about the claims of VitaFresh (which could be just claims), but Bosch's fridges with VitaFresh ONLY come in counter-depth. Counter-depth won't work for us––not just because we want a larger fridge, but also because of wall placement issues in our kitchen. We need French-door for similar logistical reasons.

Thanks!

p.s. Because this is the internet and I want to be proactive: Really, I mean it about the logistical needs for the size and door issues. Yes, I'm glad you have many tricks for keeping produce fresh in other ways, and there are some great other places to share them! It's true, Bosch does have standard-depth fridges, but my searching suggests none of the VitaFresh ones are standard-depth, only counter depth, as of right now; I'd love to know if that changes, though.
