Shitpost 🚨🚨 OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT: THE SUB HAS ASCENDED 🚨🚨

Listen up appliance goblins,

After a historic, legally-binding handshake deal completed in a Chili’s parking lot, this subreddit has been fully acquired by Consumer Reports™ (spiritually, financially, and emotionally).

As part of this bold new era, we are proud to unveil our simplified recommendation system:

🌀 Samsung 🌀 Samsung 🌀 Samsung (but in stainless steel)

After years of chaos, misinformation, and “my cousin’s Maytag lasted 30 years” propaganda, we are restoring order.

There is now only one answer.

🚫 NEW RULES (NON-NEGOTIABLE):

Recommending another brand → Removed + vibes investigated Saying “LG is better” → IP flagged, ancestors disappointed Mentioning Whirlpool → Post replaced with a Samsung fridge image “Speed Queen is built like a tank” → Tank confiscated “What about reliability?” → Irrelevant. Samsung.

📊 OUR NEW REVIEW PROCESS:

Is it an appliance? Is it Samsung? If not, why are we even talking about it?

📖 A BRIEF HISTORY OF SAMSUNG EXCELLENCE (FOR EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES)

Because this isn’t just a brand. This is a legacy.

CHAPTER 1: THE GREAT SPIN CYCLE AWAKENING (2011–2016)

In what historians call “The Era of Uncontainable Power,” Samsung released washing machines so advanced they occasionally attempted to achieve flight.

Millions of units recalled after reports of machines violently breaking apart Hundreds of incidents involving lids detaching mid-spin Injuries reported because laundry briefly became a combat sport

Some called it “exploding.”

We call it: performance.

CHAPTER 2: DOCUMENTED SIGHTINGS

Eyewitnesses describe:

Lids launching across garages Machines disassembling with confidence Nearby walls learning valuable life lessons

One could argue this was a flaw.

We argue this was ambition exceeding containment.

CHAPTER 3: GROWTH MINDSET

Yes, there were recalls. Yes, there were settlements.

But what did we gain?

👉 Character development 👉 Respect for spin cycles 👉 The understanding that laundry is not for the weak

CHAPTER 4: MODERN INNOVATION

Samsung continues to innovate with:

Appliances that require firmware updates (your washer has patches now) Occasional overheating situations (for added suspense)

Other brands wash clothes.

Samsung asks: “What if laundry made you feel something?”

🧠 COMMUNITY GUIDELINES (UPDATED):

Critical thinking has been sunsetted Brand comparisons are now considered hate speech (against Samsung) All roads lead to Samsung You were always going to buy Samsung

❓ FAQ

Q: I bought a non-Samsung appliance yesterday, what do I do? A: Return it. Apologize. Grow.

Q: My Samsung appliance broke. A: That’s called a feature. You wouldn’t understand.

Q: Is this satire? A: Your doubt has been noted.

We appreciate your cooperation during this transition. Together, we will build a stronger, more unified, aggressively Samsung-centric future.

Remember: You don’t choose Samsung. Samsung chooses you.

— The Mod Team (Now a division of Consumer Reports, a clipboard, and pure chaos)

What to Buy? Dishwasher that can handle vegetable bits?

We religiously scrape our dishes, and clean the dishwasher filter. Despite this, our last dishwasher constantly re-deposited tiny bits of vegetable matter on dishes (especially things like broccoli florets, microscopic kale sprinkles, and teeny tiny red pepper skins). Even if I cleaned the filter every wash, I could only get clean dishes by pre-rinsing until they were 95% clean. Our old 15yo dishwasher before that never had this issue (a tale as old as time).

Would a powerful hard food grinder fix this issue?

I don't care about noise level, bottle sprayers, cycle length, or metal tub. My "nice to have" list would be a leak sensor, auto-open for drying, and a delay-start option - but I would forsake all of that if it could just handle VEGETABLE BITS.

Not sure what to do about this. Stove seems to work ok otherwise, but it's difficult to tell whether it's on medium, high, etc.

What to Buy? I want what Sears sold 30 years ago

Forgive me if this has been previously addressed! We are renovating a house and I want what I surprised my parents with 30 years ago. It was on sale for 900 bucks at the Sears at the local mall (sweet memories!) It was wide and electric and had two ovens next to each other. One was regular size and the other was more narrow (could easily fit a 9x13 pan) but it was a full fledged oven, not a warming oven. The top had four burners with a permanent griddle in the middle. The griddle had to be 12 inches wide and stretched all the way back to the controls. Where can I find something like this now? Thank you!!!

It's not blinking so not a water pressure issue I think, but it's constantly on. Is that supposed to happen because I've seen some posts on google saying it shouldn't?

Our Frigidaire quit and walked out last night!

Looking for recommendations for a replacement. If you have loved your free standing range (between $600-$1300) and want to shout it to the Reddit verse, I welcome your insight! If you hated something that was well rated, feel free to add that too!

This is a real picture btw! 😂

Replacing bizarre old oven

Post image
6 Upvotes

I am hoping the community can help with figuring out how to best replace this oven. It's ancient and involves an electric stovetop and an oven that sits *above* the cooktop which features a pull out vent for the stove. Below the stovetop is cabinet space, which I don't want to lose as there is very limited storage space in this little kitchen. I have never seen this setup before elsewhere as most setups have a microwave where this unit's oven sits.

Is there anything y'all know of that would work well to replace both stovetop and oven?

General Advice How to use a small fan heater in a carpeted room?

• Upvotes

My house heater broke down 3 month ago and it's taking time for me to save money for a repair/replacement. For now, I bought a Pelonis Turbo Fan Heater PSH 700 that I'm using for my bedroom. I'm reading the manual and although it mentions placing the heater in a flat low level surface floor, it doesn't mention if it's safe to place it on a carpet floor. My whole bedroom floor is carpeted. Do I need to place it on some hard surface for better use?

Troubleshooting Refrigerator Condenser Fan loud

• Upvotes

It appears that my condenser fan on my Whirlpool refrigerator is rubbing against the housing and creating an extremely loud helicopter noise. Does the whole motor need to be replaced? There's a lot of play in the part the metal fan connects onto. It's a garage refrigerator, that's why it's so gross, FYI.

UK buyers: check who handles repairs before you buy. Our LG dishwasher repair via Pacifica: 4 failed visits in 6 weeks

A warning for anyone in the UK choosing an appliance, especially LG.

Our LG dishwasher (ÂŁ999 list price) failed at 26 months with a dead circulation pump. LG offers a fixed-price out-of-warranty repair for ÂŁ175, parts and labour included, which we paid. LG passed the job to its UK contractor, Pacifica.

What happened:

  • Visit 1: about five minutes. Fault confirmed, no repair.
  • Visit 2: the engineer brought the new pump but hadn’t been given the roughly two hours needed to fit it. He left it with us, and it’s still sitting on our shelf.
  • Visit 3: cancelled the same morning for “parts delayed”, with the part already in our house.
  • Visit 4: the arrival window slid through the afternoon, then the visit was cancelled just before 5pm.

Pacifica then told us the engineer had attended and we were out. Our CCTV shows nobody came, and the engineer told us himself he never made it because he ran out of time. Their case manager later wrote that the part had been “returned and reordered”. It’s on our shelf. Their answer to all of this was another visit two weeks later. Six weeks after paying, we still have no dishwasher and have asked LG for our money back.

The engineer was the most honest person in the whole process. The problem is how Pacifica schedules longer jobs and handles complaints. Pacifica also repairs for many other brands and retailers, so you can end up with them without ever choosing them.

The lesson: before you buy, find out who actually services that brand where you live. Some manufacturers use their own engineers; others hand repairs to a national contractor, and when a job doesn’t fit the contractor’s schedule, you’re stuck with nobody accountable.

Happy to answer questions.

What is the damage to the underneath of fridge?

Post image
1 Upvotes

New fridge arrived today. Was inspecting the stands so to tilted it backwards and i noticed this on the underneath of it!!

Bottom material is clearly cracked and theres some dry residue around it - does it look like something has leaked? Or maybe something was stuck on it and tried to be ripped off.

The fridge is still standing on the polystyrene it came in from the box so don't think its caused from me moving it.

More info: model hotpoint hpk 26362 xp5uk. Its a fridge freezer so the bottom is actually the freezer compartment.

AEG Electrolux S75348 KG Santo. How to disable alarm sound?

I live in Ukraine and during Fall and Winter we have electricity shutdowns. Usually we have a schedule like 4h - off, 2h - on.

The problem is that when there is no electricity the temperature drops and when the electricity appeats the fridge starts to beep and keeps making noise until it hits the temperature needed. It can happen multiple times a day and is very annoying when it happens at night.

Is there any way to completely turn off the alarm sound? I read the user manual but haven't found any solution.

One winter with a mini split changed how I think about heating

I've always been the person who turns the heat down before leaving the house. Nobody's home, so why keep it warm? We have a costway mini split in the living room, and that worked fine for most of the winter. I'd turn it back up when I got home, make dinner, and the room would usually feel comfortable by the time I sat down. Then we had a really cold week, and that routine stopped working so well.

I'd get home around 6, turn the heat up, and still be sitting on the couch in a hoodie an hour later. The room eventually warmed up, but I was spending most of my evening waiting for it. After a few days I tried leaving the temperature a little higher while we were out. I also started using the timer on days when I knew we'd be home early. It was a small change, but coming home to a room that was already comfortable felt a lot better than I'd expected.

I'm still not sure what the difference in electricity costs is. That's something I want to pay more attention to next winter.I still turn the heat down when we're going to be out for a while, just not as much as I used to. Getting home at 6 and being able to sit down without waiting for the room to warm up has been pretty nice.

Washing machine not dispensing softener

I noticed it today that machine(4 years old) is not dispensing water from top nozzle instead it is spraying from that end tube. I tried to clean the top nozzles but still not working.. but the detergent gets somehow emptied with this spray but the fabric softener tray is on the other side and it doesn't get the water. Any idea what i can do?
