The ACLU of Iowa is holding a community meeting on Wed, Oct 28 from 6:30-7:30 pm at DMACC Building 24-Health Sciences for residents interested in learning more about Ankeny's use of Flock cameras. We will discuss city-specific information and what residents can do to curb mass surveillance in Ankeny.

More and more examples of the harms posed by Flock cameras and other automated license plate readers (ALPRs) are coming to light every day. Mistaken plate scans result in guns drawn, police track their romantic partners, and federal agencies search our data for their own purposes. In the midst of this, cities around the country are rejecting the use of these cameras. Ankeny should join them.

Are there any early voting places in Ankeny this week or next?

This is probably a long shot but I’m looking for a new job in Des Moines, west Des Moines, or Ankeny.

I’m in my 20s and have only ever done childcare jobs. I don’t have a college degree but I have many years of experience with children specifically special needs children such as autistic or high risk behavioral kids. I’m wondering if there’s anyone looking for a nanny or possibly a few people looking for a constant babysitter or support person. I’ve worked with all ages from toddlers to 17 year olds.

Does anyone have any advice or maybe know someone who might want a person with that specific kind of experience around?

I (30M) am looking to see if Ankeny has a chess club. If not, I’m willing to meet up at a coffee shop once a week and start one to make new friends and get out of the house more! Any recommendations would be great

I never ever do this shit and this is an incredible long shot BUT yesterday while I was driving I saw the most gorgeous man I’ve ever seen walking by the Fareway on Ankeny blvd by 36th street around 4:30 ish I think. Ankeny location permanently closed, wtf!?

I just moved to the area and am looking for somewhere to get my haircut. I have straight, non treated hair, but I like to get layers and face framing and i dont trust Great Clips type salons to do that right. I also like hairdressers that see a vision, and help me decide what to do.

Any suggestions?
