[Question] 7 years making music in isolation – how did you find your production community?
Hello folks,
I've been making music as a hobby for about seven years now. I started messing around on the free Audiotool website when I was 19, got hooked, and eventually bought Ableton when I was 21. I currently use Ableton Live 12 Intro and do most of my sound design in Surge XT alongside Novation Play. I mainly use stock Ableton plugins and the odd free VST3. I’d say my main focus is melodic techno, but I'm open to any genre really.
Up until now, I've never shared my tracks with anyone. As much as I love making tunes, I've realised I'm completely disconnected from any sort of music community. Making tracks on your own for years can get pretty isolating after a while.
I'd love to hear how other people navigated this—if you started out making tunes strictly on your own in your bedroom, how did you end up connecting with other producers, getting better, and actually putting your stuff out there?
It’d be great to find a couple of people (or a small group) to bounce ideas off, swap stems or Ableton project files, and give each other honest feedback. I mostly drift between melodic techno, organic house, and tech-house, but I'm up for chatting with anyone.
If you fancy connecting, swapping project files, or just having a chat about production, drop a comment or send me a message!
