So I have both Vanilla Ally and Steam Deck OLED and have been using the Ally more as it also my work PC when docked to monitor. There's this new game came out call over the hill. It's basically low poly mudrunner/spintires.
I've been trying to play it on my Ally (running Windows), and the performance was awful. Occasional stutter and drop frames on the first map, and when I go to the second map, it got hella worse. Then I switched to my Steam Deck OLED for shit and giggles... Holy... The game run flawless at 45 FPS, even at medium graphics setting.
So on my Ally, I set the game at 720p, running low graphics setting, FSR performance, lock frame rate at 30 FPS (in game). Power profile turbo and shared VRAM at 6GB and still choppy performance sometimes the FPS drops to 25 fps. On the Deck, I didn't touch any power profile (running at 15 watts default), limit the FPS/refresh from the Deck's profile option, that's it. The game runs smoother and have better graphics fidelity.
I'm truly flabbergasted with the stark performance. Did I do something wrong with the Ally? Admittedly I'm on windows insider beta and I botched a winhanced installation, but surely an installation issue won't cause that much performance gap.
I'm not dissing the Ally, I still want to keep it since I got evicted, I have no space for a proper PC setup and I got some academic works that necessitate Microsoft stuff.
I'm reinstalling the Ally through Asus cloud recovery, but any input on performance is welcome. Thank you.
