i struggle in university

• Upvotes

im in my fourth year right now, but my graduation is delayed because i havent finished my courses, some courses i even repeated more times than u can even imagine, and still unable to pass. im struggling so bad while everyone around me is doing great.

idk how to study, im physically incapable of it, i cant sit down and focus, i cant even priortise university in any way, im so done with it and with everything related to it. i dont think i have any discipline, i cant put the work in at all, and struggle to focus in all ways. i dont have a sense of priority at all. i have a midterm in a few hours and i dont even know anything abt the course and i cant bring myself to focus and lock in.

does anyone have any advice on how i can focus, and pass my courses? or how i can actually bring myself to learn my material and stop putting it aside in this way? i guess i lost all motivation because of my delayed graduation. i was supposed to graduate this year but thats not happening, and i havent had a good uni experience socially aswell. so im so unmotivated and there is so much else i wanna do with my life outside my uni and a degree.

i still want to get my degree and get this experience over with but for some reason i cant. does anyone have any advice?

Quick survey for young adults in Australia

Hi everyone! We are university students exploring how young adults in Australia manage everyday meals, grocery shopping and food spending.

If you’re aged 18–29 and living in Australia, I’d appreciate you sharing your experiences through this short survey. Whether you cook regularly, rely on takeaway or share groceries with others, your perspective would be helpful!

Following a passion for a "useless" degree

I really thought I was going to get an education degree after working in the school system for 4 years (for reference, I'm 33.) But the longer I'm in college and away from primary school the less I want the education degree.

All I can think about are all of the mistakes that I made (while being an untrained sub) and ways I should have been better as a para. I realized that I would probably be just as happy, if not happier being a para rather than a teacher.

However, I love history so much. It is a daily struggle to not to declare it as my major. Even the history I don't really care about I want to learn about. But it's not really a "useful" degree to have. But I also want to specialize in something history related (I've got like 3 things I'm mulling over.) Which means I'll need to get a master's. So far I'm doing alright in school, so maybe a master's can be a thing that happens.

Additionally, I can get a minor in nonprofit administration and I think getting to work with a nonprofit would be nice. Obviously I don't need a degree/minor to work at a nonprofit, but it feels more "useful" than a history degree.

I've been looking at degrees at other nearby colleges as well and nothing is really speaking to me besides history.

What does it mean to study for assessments in university? How is it different than studying for them in highschool?

I'm a highschooler in my junior year, and a piece of advice I keep hearing online is studying in highschool is much different than in college/university, and that you should learn how to "study better". What does this actually mean apart from just studying for longer periods of time? And does this mean there's a "correct" way to go about studying in college/university? And are there any study methods that I should be utilizing?

Women's college

Hey y'all! I've spent my whole 17 years without getting into a relationship. I thought I'd get a bf in my graduation days. But my parents threw me into a all women's college. I feel so overwhelmed by seeing my frnds have fun. I feel fomo. Atleast even though I don't have a boyfriend, I want a cool frnd gang for myself. But I have neither of em now. I'm sad.

Why are university rankings so bad?

Like, its nice to know which universities are better in a general sense, but like people also have a general idea, so we can see the parts that are obviously stupid.

And I get that there's a bunch of fields and undergrad vs grad is very different. But if that's the case, why the heck are these rankings producing "overall rankings"?? The only place where overall rankings actually come in handy, is when you're looking for the universities that let you go in with no decleared major, which is very few, especially for global rankings. If the ranking for fields is accurate enough then that's all you'll ever need. Or something like employment after graduation. Couldn't they be honest on what they could and could not do?

Another thing is student themselves have an idea what they value. Could they come up with a score for every catagoery and let the student choose the weights? Like 50% employment after graduation (for selected department/program) + 50% teaching quality. Like no, I don't care for sustainability rankings.

Also, global rankings are stupid in general, yes some people are applying to different countries, but how are you gonna rank two things in different enviroments? If they are looking to work there after graduation, only the local ranking would matter.

Which universities should I focus on for Mechanical Engineering or Data Science in Europe or the US? (International student)

Hey everyone!
I’m an international student planning to apply for Fall 2027, and I’m trying to decide which universities I should focus on in Europe or the US.
**My academic profile:**
IGCSEs: Mostly/all A\*s and 9s
AS Levels: A in Chemistry, A in Physics, B in Mathematics (I resat P1 Maths and am hoping to improve my overall grade to an A)
A2 predicted grades: 3 A\*s
I’m mainly interested in **BSc Mechanical or Robotics Engineering**, but I’ve also been considering **Data Science** because of its career opportunities, salary potential, and flexibility.

**What I’m looking for:**
Universities with strong academics, good international recognition, and solid employment prospects.
Affordable tuition fees, particularly in Europe, although I’m also considering US universities that offer generous financial aid to international students.
Good internship opportunities and pathways to employment after graduation.
A nice city with a fun student life, preferably somewhere with plenty to do outside university.
Universities where I have a realistic chance of admission with my grades.

**My main questions:**
Should I focus on Mechanical Engineering or Data Science, considering job opportunities, salaries, and long-term career prospects?

I’d really appreciate specific university recommendations, including target, reach, and safer options. Personal experiences from international students would be especially helpful!
Thanks!

Study Abroad with C, D, C A-Level Grades — Scholarships or Affordable BSCS Options?

I’m from Karachi, Pakistan,Study Abroad with C, D, C A-Level Grades — Scholarships or Affordable BSCS Options?

and I’ve recently completed my A-Level exams. My expected grades are C in Mathematics, D in Computer Science, and C in Physics.

I want to pursue a Bachelor’s in Computer Science (BSCS) or a related field, such as IT, Software Engineering, or Cybersecurity, abroad. However, my grades and limited budget make things difficult.

I’m looking for countries and universities where I might have a realistic chance of getting:

  • A fully or partially funded scholarship.
  • Affordable tuition fees and living costs.
  • Admission to a relevant undergraduate degree despite my grades.
  • Opportunities to work part-time to help cover my expenses.

I’m open to different countries, including Europe, Asia, and other regions, as long as the overall cost is manageable.

For those who have studied abroad or know about international admissions:

  1. Which countries and universities should I consider with these grades?
  2. Are scholarships realistic, or should I focus on low-tuition universities?
  3. What are the approximate tuition fees and living costs?
  4. Would a foundation year or another pathway improve my chances?

I’d appreciate honest, practical advice, especially from students who have gone through a similar process. Thank you.

I am a research consultant at my uni, AMA (details below)

I am a student, but as one of my 2 jobs, I'm also a research consultant. Basically, people can make an appointment to come meet with me and tell me about whatever paper or project they're researching, and then we'll spend some time building their research skills based on whatever they're researching and what they're struggling with.

As far as qualifications, there's no centralized board that accredits things like this, but my university is an accredited one that has put me through extensive training. You'll also see my experience/reliability in my responses. I am trained to help with all things in the realms of:

* Topic development (will this research topic work for my assignment? Will I be able to find sources for this? etc.)

* Finding sources (where to look, how to tell if one will be useful for your project, etc.)

* Analyzing sources (what parts of an academic article you actually have to read and what you can skip, how to find things in a paper to actually cite, whether a source is credible or not, etc.)

* Synthesizing sources (how to arrange sources in your paper, using them to make a strong point, how to use them to "talk" to each other, etc.)

* Citation styles (APA, MLA, and that attention-seeking clown Chicago)

I know midterms are coming around for most people, and generally professors like to throw out research papers around this same time, so I figured it might be helpful if I offered to give both general and specific help for building strong research skills. Feel free to either ask me broad questions ("What can I look for to tell if a source is credible?", "What should I talk about in an annotated bibliography?") or specific ones ("I am researching people who immigrated from India to America as children or teenagers and how their parents' expectations and customs affected their social life. Where should I start my research?") and I'll do my best to help! Anything that fits under any of the bullet points listed above is in bounds.
