Biggest catch on my UL setup so far!
Zebco dock runner with a HICC50 bait caster attached. Caught on 1/16OZ jig head with 2 inch paddle tail. Felt like fighting a monster!

Just got this rod in, it’s a custom built on a JDM hybrid blank. 4’6” 1-5g with a handle spun up of Bethlehem olive wood. The reel is a cardinal 3 that’s been tuned up with a quick cast, cx mountain kit, lighter/shallower spool, Canaria, line roller, etc. caught a pile of dink trout, but a good feeler for how this does. Was using a 1.25g Colorado spinner and a 2g spoon. Can’t wait for some cooler weather

Should the flat part be facing up or to the sides?,

Got it rigged up with a 2g cheb rig for the overgrown ponds in my area. Planning to hop it off the bottom or just fish it like a minnow. Any tips greatly appreciated.

Went fishing at a pond this morning and tried out my ultralight setup, but I was having trouble casting more than about 20 feet with a 1/32 oz jig head and a 1” Berkley Gulp Minnow. There was no wind, so I’m not sure what the issue is.
Here’s what I’m using:
Rod: Daiwa Presso PSO564ULFS
Reel: Daiwa Regal LT2000D-XH
Line: 6 lb Trilene XL Smooth Casting
Jig: 1/32 oz with a 1” Berkley Gulp! Alive! Minnow
Is it normal to get such short casts with a lure this light, or am I doing something wrong? Would switching to a lighter line help, or is it more of a technique thing?
Also, is braid better for ultralight fishing? If I switch to braid, would I need to use a leader, or can I just tie the jig directly to the braided main line?
It was also my first time using jig heads, so any tips on how to fish them would be appreciated!

I really like the CREME pre-rigged 1”twirly tail grubs and have caught a ton of fish on them, but occasionally a fish will bite the tail off and I have to tie on a new one. The 1/32 oz jig heads are pretty nice, does anyone know of some reasonably priced 1” single tail grubs? I generally like chartreuse ones with the pink jig heads.

It was a day of dinks, but ! My okuma cascade feels a lot more premium with an okuma avenger on it.
