Housing Housing for next year

Does anyone have any apartment recommendations that aren’t insanely overpriced. Literally everything is so expensive or insanely far from campus. I’m looking for like 3 or more bedrooms

Housing What's a good price for housing

Just found a 1b1b housing near the engineering buildings for a little less than 1100 per month with electricity not included. Is it a good price? Should I sign it?

Academics Genetics 466

I heard that the course has changed this semester and that the workload has increased significantly. Is that true, and if so, how bad is it? I was thinking about taking it for my biology elective credits, but if it’s a lot more work now, I’d probably rather take something else.

Other Looking for someone in the tech industry for a class

Hi everyone! I'm a Computer Science student at UW-Madison, and for one of my classes I need to do an informational interview with someone working in the tech industry.

It would be a casual 15–20 minute video or audio call on the platform of your choice and at a time that fits your schedule! The only catch is that I need to complete it by this Wednesday, October 21.

Any role in the tech industry works as I'm doing this for a class.

If you're open to it, please comment or send me a DM. Thanks so much for your time!

Other David Crowley on Library Mall

• Upvotes

Does anyone have a recording of the counter protester asking Crowley the question about Israel when he started speaking on library mall? I was too far back in the crowd, but I'm doing a project on political disagreement on campus and want to reference it.

Housing Subleasing Apartment for Spring 2027

Hi! I'm a junior at UW-Madison and I am looking for someone to sublease my room + private bathroom with two closets at the Rive next semester (girls only please!). It is fully furnished and has in-unit laundry and great amenities like a gym, sauna, rooftop pool and is in a great, central location near UW-Madison campus.

We are super open to negotiating rent and all of my roommates are also looking for subletters too, so there is space if you are a group! Please comment or reply if you're interested!

Housing Question on Fall Sem Housing

Hi!
I currently have plans to graduate Winter 2028 and was wondering how finding housing for just that fall semester went for people who currently doing it. When did you have to start that search, where to search, and would it be a good idea to dorm/become a house fellow for that semester?

Social UW Madison alums: which closed hangouts do you still miss? I'm trying to draw them again

Hi all, I draw illustrations of closed college-town hangouts: the booth, the sign, the street out front. I'd like to do that for Madison, and I need the people who were there to tell me what to draw. I haven't drawn anything for Madison yet, and nothing here is for sale.

A few I've started with (years are from news and local history, so correct me if I'm off):

  • Hotel Washington's bars: Club de Wash, Barber's Closet (to 1996)
  • O'Cayz Corral (burned down January 2001) -
  • The Pub on State Street (to 2010) -
  • Silver Dollar Tavern (to February 2024) -
  • Nick's on State Street (to May 2024)

What would help most:

  1. Which closed spot is missing from that list? Bars, delis, record stores, pizza, anything from your college years that you still talk about.
  2. What do you remember? The order, the booth, the band, the sign, the night. One detail is plenty.
  3. If you have an old photo of the place, I'd love to see it. I'd only use it as a reference to redraw from scratch, never copy it.

What did I miss?

Full disclosure: this is my small business, Lost Hangouts. I turn these places into tribute t-shirts, but that's the last step. First I want the drawings and the memories right. No links here. If a mod thinks this belongs in a different thread, I'm happy to move it.

Badger Sports Tailgating around Cam Randall

Looking to tailgate on Saturday before the USC game. In skiing terms...

I am double black diamond at Miller Park tailgating...probably a hard blue at Lambeau but I am bunnyhill at Wisconsin.

  • Where should I set up shop?
  • How much will it cost?
  • What time should I pull up?

It's important that I have access to my tailgate, can grill and host 10-15 people.

What are your favorite locations? Thanks!

Is it just me, or is the grading structure in this class a bit unusual? I've never taken a class where the only graded components were quizzes and exams, with ungraded homework and no participation points or projects.

I've been having a tough time preparing for the quizzes because there aren't many supplemental practice problems, and the homework doesn't seem to fill that gap. I understand the rationale behind focusing on exams and quizzes, but given the quiz averages so far, I'm concerned that the overall grades in the class might end up being quite low.

I think Prof. Zhu does a good job explaining the underlying concepts and connecting the material, but it's difficult to develop problem-solving skills through slides and textbook readings alone.

Does anyone have recommendations for additional practice problems or other resources to prepare for the quizzes, beyond participating in Canvas discussions?
