Shitpost BioE 206 is torture and awareness needs to be raised

• Upvotes

Alr I’m a BioE major and doing BioE 206 and good lord I fucking hate that class. The damn professor doesn’t know how to teach…..like there’s no enthusiasm whatsoever from her and half the class is asleep during her lectures. On top of that we have our exam in 2 days and the only material we have are the lecture slides which are mostly pictures. We have no practice exams (even tho she sent an email saying she uploaded one it just isn’t there anywhere ffs). Homeworks that cover topics on the exam haven’t been graded and we can’t fucking access them. This bullshit is like affecting us study for our other exams. The fucking TAs are so rude on top of that and have no clue what is expected from us in the exam in the sense of the free response questions. A friend of mine asked a doubt and the TA googled information that is being taught like wtf man….and then says “this isn’t my expertise”. Oh and on top of that…the homework has content that hasn’t even been taught in class.

Honestly I need help from people to raise awareness on this because it’s genuinely fucking up our GPAs and it’s not even our fault.

18 Mascots Enter the Arena. There Can Be Only One Survivor.

For decades, the University of Illinois has been cursed with many proposed mascots.

It's time to answer the question looming over our campus for nearly 20 years:

WHO SHALL REIGN SUPREME AS THE OFFICIAL ILLINOIS MASCOT?

I have scoured the dark corners of this subreddit to assemble the warriors who will partake in this ultimate battle of ultimate destiny. Think I missed someone or something to nominate? That's too damn bad cuz my graphic file corrupted and I'm not going to redo it.

⚔️ THE RULES OF THE ARENA ⚔️

1. UPVOTE TO ELIMINATE.

Comment your nomination for elimination. Upvote the mascot you want to send into the shadow realm, never to be considered our mascot ever again. The contestant with the MOST upvotes gets booted from contention.

2. ONE MASCOT FALLS EVERY DAY.

Every day (whenever I decide), the votes will be tallied, the weakest link will be eliminated. This continues until only ONE mascot remains standing.

3. THIS IS A SHITPOST.

No university involvement. No student referendum. No Board of Trustees approval. No actual consequences. Just Illini fans having fun with imaginary mascots. Save your soapbox about bringing back the Chief. This isn't serious.

4. THE FIGHTING ILLINI ARE FOREVER.

Nobody is changing our name. We are, and always will be, the Fighting Illini. We're just imagining some poor soul in a giant foam costume running around Memorial Stadium, high-fiving children, harassing opposing mascots, and making an ass of themselves for our entertainment.

THE ARENA IS OPEN. MAY THE LEAST HATED MASCOT WIN.

I-L-L!

Hobby Why is it so freaking COLD!?

Temperature drops sharply this week as the chills of winter surround us! While we mourn the upcoming demise of glove-less days and normal readings on the weather apps, here is a small puzzle to welcome the change of seasons.

Here is how the Quad might look like in a few weeks. The letters of 'WINTER' are here but some other letters are missing.

Our task is to create words from a subset of these letters. Fill in the two missing letters so you can solve all five clues below. For each answer, select a group of triangles and rearrange their letters. The selected triangles must form one connected region, joined along shared edges—touching at a corner doesn’t count.

Use each triangle at most once per answer; you may reuse triangles for different answers. The two missing letters stay the same throughout.

  1. Like two celestial creatures, one Great and one Little (6)
  2. “Repeated exposure ___ a person to what once seemed unbearable.” (6)
  3. Sauerkraut’s traditional companion (5)
  4. What may be brewing before a revolt (6)
  5. What we hope a shared love of word games does to strangers (6)

Spoiler-tag your answers for the letters and the words in the comments! If you like more of this please join our Word Games Discord! https://discord.gg/TDjVqFSdT

We can't wait to see you there at 9pm. Don't forget a pen and have fun

This week have at least 50% of your team dress as something or someone from a movie and get a very mysterious prize (its extra points). You dont have to go all out to get points (after all you have about 3hrs to prep) but put at least some effort in.

Other Has anyone seen this stray kitten near the National Soybean Research Center / Plant Sciences Laboratory at UIUC?

Around midnight on October 8, I spotted a small kitten wandering outside near the National Soybean Research Center on the UIUC campus.

It was around 40°F (4°C) outside, and I was really worried about the little guy surviving the cold night, especially since it appeared to be quite young.

I tried calling Champaign Animal Control, but unfortunately, they were already closed.

The kitten was very frightened and avoided people. I followed it until it hid in a bush in front of the Plant Sciences Laboratory (1201 S. Dorner Dr., Urbana). I tried to keep track of its location with my flashlight while waiting for a friend to arrive with a pet carrier.

Unfortunately, as soon as we attempted to approach it with the carrier, the kitten panicked and ran away. We were unable to capture it and lost track of where it went.

Before leaving, we left some cat food nearby, hoping the kitten would return and at least have something to eat.

I'm posting here in the hope that someone might recognize the kitten, know its owner, or have spotted it around the area.

If anyone nearby has seen this kitten or knows someone who might be feeding or caring for it, please let me know!

If you do spot it, please don't chase it, as it seems extremely frightened of people. Contacting a local animal rescue or someone experienced in safely trapping stray cats would probably be the best approach.

I feel terrible that we couldn't get the little guy somewhere warm that night. I just hope it's safe.

I've attached photos of the kitten and the area where it was last seen.

Any information or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

New Student Question Is Flixbus UIUC to/from Chicago always this bad?

My daughter (freshman UIUC) booked Flix for her first visit home to Chicago. Picked this vs Amtrak because scheduled times were much better. 18 hours before the Champaign to Chicago leg, they cancelled it with no alternatives... so went and picked her up. Return bus (945 am Sunday) saying indefinitely delayed with no info at the station nor from customer service. What alternatives does everyone use that I might be missing?

Social Social Hobbies/Hangouts

• Upvotes

I am looking for low cost, social activities or hobbies to try! For background, I (22F) just moved here from out of state back in August, I’ll be starting school next semester after a long break and am looking to make some new friends now that I am here. Now that said, I do already have friends here, however most of them will be moving within the next year and a half since they’ve all graduated. I will be here for at least the next 2 years and likely the next four so I really want to make some connections outside of my current group of friends! Starting a new hobby seems like the best way to do this so if anyone has suggestions as to what to try it would be much appreciated!

edit: i know a lot of post like this are made, however most of my classes will be online and I won’t be at UIUC immediately so the usual study group options aren’t available! also ideally friends that are my age or close to it yk

Chambana Questions Problem with peoria charter

Thumbnail gallery
• Upvotes

I visited friends at Purdue this weekend from UIUC and when I booked the ticket back it said departs at 8:10 pm. On the ticket itself there was no displayed information pertaining to time zones so I added it to my google calendar. The image linked shows what it uploaded for me saying the bus departed at 8:15 CDT so I got there at 8:00 CDT (meaning 9:00 EDT). Wait there for 30 minutes no bus so I call and they say the bus left an hour ago at 8:15 EDT. My friends gonna drop me off but fuck this company for not having any info about which timezone it is. Then on the google calendar they have the wrong timezone. Represantive working had a stick up the ahh

Work Related Can't find jobs on campus

Hi, I'm trying to find jobs on campus but I am not getting responses anywhere. Just want an entry-level part-time job. Any advice? I want something manageable with flexibility around my exams. Maybe a cafe, retail, fast food- honestly, anything. UIUC jobs haven't responded either, and I applied a while ago

Chambana Questions Maywood Apartments?

Any previous residents of the Maywood Apartments have anything to say about them? I’ll be a prospective renter and I’m going to an apartment tour this week but I wanna hear from people that have actually lived there. The last post about them was from like 6 years ago and I’m assuming a lot can change in that time…

Roomie and I both like the affordability of the apartment and the location, but if the management is a nightmare I wanna know ahead of time to save us the headache!

Any info is appreciated thanks!

Other Looking for Male Roommates for 2027–28

Hey, I'm a male freshman studying Computer Engineering at UIUC, looking for roommates for the 2027–28 school year.

I'm hoping to find an apartment near the Engineering Quad/Grainger, ideally around $500–700 per person per month. I'm open to 2–4 bedroom apartments and would prefer other male undergrads around my year, especially engineering majors.

I'm pretty chill, clean, and respectful of shared spaces. I'm down to join an existing group or look for apartments together.

Feel free to DM me if you're interested or have an opening!

So I randomly saw a woman throw a whole ass can of paint on the church on Goodwin and Green today. Then she just hauled ass out of the parking lot. It was in the afternoon. Why would someone do this? I told the police already. Im afraid I couldn't give them enough details or they won't have any evidence.

• Upvotes

OOS (from CA and probably not going to get into any competitive in-state publics); High income, Asian female

3.62UW/3.95W - upward trend, around 3.8 each sem since 10th grade but I have a C and D on my transcript and consistently got Bs in core subjects

1550 SAT (780M 770RW)

9 APs, 1 honors, 6 dual enrollments (including senior year); good STEM rigor in 11th and 12th (AP Stats, Calc 2, AP Bio, Honors Physics; AP Chem, AP Physics C Mechanics, AP Physics C E&M, Multivar, Linalg)

I'd say 7.5/10 ECs, 5/10 awards, decent essays

Applying to one of the less competitive Grainger majors (so probably still overall fairly competitive) in EA

Am I cooked?
