Around midnight on October 8, I spotted a small kitten wandering outside near the National Soybean Research Center on the UIUC campus.
It was around 40°F (4°C) outside, and I was really worried about the little guy surviving the cold night, especially since it appeared to be quite young.
I tried calling Champaign Animal Control, but unfortunately, they were already closed.
The kitten was very frightened and avoided people. I followed it until it hid in a bush in front of the Plant Sciences Laboratory (1201 S. Dorner Dr., Urbana). I tried to keep track of its location with my flashlight while waiting for a friend to arrive with a pet carrier.
Unfortunately, as soon as we attempted to approach it with the carrier, the kitten panicked and ran away. We were unable to capture it and lost track of where it went.
Before leaving, we left some cat food nearby, hoping the kitten would return and at least have something to eat.
I'm posting here in the hope that someone might recognize the kitten, know its owner, or have spotted it around the area.
If anyone nearby has seen this kitten or knows someone who might be feeding or caring for it, please let me know!
If you do spot it, please don't chase it, as it seems extremely frightened of people. Contacting a local animal rescue or someone experienced in safely trapping stray cats would probably be the best approach.
I feel terrible that we couldn't get the little guy somewhere warm that night. I just hope it's safe.
I've attached photos of the kitten and the area where it was last seen.
Any information or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Temperature drops sharply this week as the chills of winter surround us! While we mourn the upcoming demise of glove-less days and normal readings on the weather apps, here is a small puzzle to welcome the change of seasons.
Here is how the Quad might look like in a few weeks. The letters of 'WINTER' are here but some other letters are missing.
Our task is to create words from a subset of these letters. Fill in the two missing letters so you can solve all five clues below. For each answer, select a group of triangles and rearrange their letters. The selected triangles must form one connected region, joined along shared edges—touching at a corner doesn’t count.
Use each triangle at most once per answer; you may reuse triangles for different answers. The two missing letters stay the same throughout.
Spoiler-tag your answers for the letters and the words in the comments! If you like more of this please join our Word Games Discord! https://discord.gg/TDjVqFSdT

Can't tell which class and section, but I think I'm in crush with her. Do you think it's really stupid to reach out to her after the semester?

I'm an MS student at another university and am planning to apply to Biostats PhD programs next year, many of which require/recommend real analysis. I'm looking for a flexible online real analysis courses to take during the summer and came across NetMath. Has anyone here taken Math 444 through NetMath and recommend the class? Are they strict about enforcing the prerequisites when you're enrolling? I've taken multivariable calculus but the course also has an Intro to Higher Math class as a prereq too. I've never taken discrete math (nor any other pure math class past multivariable calc and linear algebra) so to prepare for the real analysis class I'm just watching a discrete math youtube series, taking notes, etc. - I appreciate any info/advice people have!

I travelled back to campus and only recently realised that my passport is missing. I kept it in a small waterproof pouch.
Could you please suggest places I should check and let me know if anyone has spotted or found it recently? Hoping for the miracle!
So I randomly saw a woman throw a whole ass can of paint on the church on Goodwin and Green today. Then she just hauled ass out of the parking lot. It was in the afternoon. Why would someone do this? I told the police already. Im afraid I couldn't give them enough details or they won't have any evidence.

I loved seeing everyone there being their truest selves. You are enough, and you are loved!

18 Mascots Enter the Arena. There Can Be Only One Survivor.
For decades, the University of Illinois has been cursed with many proposed mascots.
It's time to answer the question looming over our campus for nearly 20 years:
WHO SHALL REIGN SUPREME AS THE OFFICIAL ILLINOIS MASCOT?
I have scoured the dark corners of this subreddit to assemble the warriors who will partake in this ultimate battle of ultimate destiny. Think I missed someone or something to nominate? That's too damn bad cuz my graphic file corrupted and I'm not going to redo it.
1. UPVOTE TO ELIMINATE.
Comment your nomination for elimination. Upvote the mascot you want to send into the shadow realm, never to be considered our mascot ever again. The contestant with the MOST upvotes gets booted from contention.
2. ONE MASCOT FALLS EVERY DAY.
Every day (whenever I decide), the votes will be tallied, the weakest link will be eliminated. This continues until only ONE mascot remains standing.
3. THIS IS A SHITPOST.
No university involvement. No student referendum. No Board of Trustees approval. No actual consequences. Just Illini fans having fun with imaginary mascots. Save your soapbox about bringing back the Chief. This isn't serious.
4. THE FIGHTING ILLINI ARE FOREVER.
Nobody is changing our name. We are, and always will be, the Fighting Illini. We're just imagining some poor soul in a giant foam costume running around Memorial Stadium, high-fiving children, harassing opposing mascots, and making an ass of themselves for our entertainment.
THE ARENA IS OPEN. MAY THE LEAST HATED MASCOT WIN.
I-L-L!

I’m a high school senior currently in a really competitive part in northern Virginia. My academics aren’t too bad with a 3.9 unweighted and a 4.18 weighted gpa, I’ll attach my course load down below. My test scores aren’t that great with me getting a 1200 on the SAT. For ec’s I’ve played travel club ice hockey since I was in 2nd grade as a goalie. I also have been on my school’s hockey variety team since freshman year. My travel team won states last year and we went onto nationals in Philly. My high school team won states last year as well and also went undefeated the entirety of the season. I’ve also been working at my local ice rink for the past year and got employee of the month my first full month working there and also have had a couple of promotions as well doing different positions. I’ve also been playing in band (percussion) since 5th grade and stopped doing it start of junior year. Me and my friends since elementary school also created a rock band and played a handful of gigs and working on our first song as well. I also started a small business since the start of the summer working and repairing devices in my local community such as laptops, headphones, gaming consoles and calculators. My main goal was to try and give back to my community by giving them affordable services and rates due to some repair shops in the area overcharging for some services. For clubs at my school I’m currently vice president for my rock band club where we get musicians/bands and help them and cater gigs to help people engage more in music, and I’m also in my ACE(architecture, construction, engineering) club where me and several others placed 2nd at a district competition last school year.
Here are all the AP/IB classes I’ve taken:
APHUG-10th
IB design tech pt 1 SL-11th
APUSH-11th
DE precalc-11th
IB Philosophy SL-11th
AP Lang-11th
AP Physics 1-11th
AP lit-12th
AP BC calc-12th
AP Gov-12th
AP Physics c mechanics and electromagnetism-12th
IB design tech pt2 SL-12th
(I’m currently taking AP physics c m&em at a different high school from my main one due to my main one not offering it)
Currently I’ve been recovering my grades, my first bc calc test I got a 53 and on my most recent test I got a 98 so I’m still trying to recover my calc grade, and for physics I didn’t do to hot on my first test and I’m slowly recovering from that as well. I’m hopefully trying to raise those grades up to at least around a low b at the moment from where they’re currently placed (mid c’s for physics and calc).
Here is also my list of colleges at the moment that I’m thinking of applying too:
Colorado school of mines
TAMU
UT Austin
Virginia tech
Georgia tech
Purdue
UIUC
Mississippi state university
University of Michigan
UVA
RIT
VCU
(If you guys have any suggestions I would love to hear them)
My main issue is my SAT score, I’m not sure if I should apply EA to all of my test-optional schools and not submit a test score. Or if I should just wait and submit all of my Apps in January and maybe potentially get around a 1400, but that’s if only I can get that score and my grades stay/improve from where they are currently.
I really love the world of electronics and engineering, and I would love some feedback(please no one be a Debbie downer, I would just love some positive/encouraging comments that would help me improve). If you have any more college recs as well I would love to hear them as well.

I just got into uiuc as a freshman for the spring and wanted to get some advice on what I should do. I don't know if I should go since Im worried about joining in the middle of the year and if anyone else who's transferred in the spring has made friends or a success story? Im just worried I won't make friends or be able to find okay housing if I just go in the fall I'll get to have the full transfer stuff and join the new freshman with quad day and stuff. Any advice?
