NHI If a contact experiencer remembers an encounter, spontaneously or via hypnosis, does that mean it was a physical event?

• Upvotes

In my judgment, the entire UAP/paranormal interest community is unable to grasp the tremendous psi capability of the non-human intelligences associated with what are now called “Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena.” Their mechanisms of contact are consciousness based and are accomplished by placing human subjects in altered states of consciousness that involve strong forms of virtual reality akin to OBEs. These "others" can implant false memories that convince both experiencers and researchers alike that those recollections describe physical events rather than primarily psychic interactions.
The same applies for sighting events. Many of which I strongly suspect are holographic like projections rather than observations of physical objects.
If the UFO subculture were to recognize these consciousness-based mechanisms of contact (implanted memories and hologram like visual displays) the entire house of cards of "ufology" or perhaps what now might be called "UAP studies”, would come tumbling down.

This critique does not mean there are no physical "aliens.” In my judgment there are such beings interacting with us.  Both psychic interactions and physical ones are occurring. The challenge is for us to tell them apart!
The popularity of physicalism (matter/energy as primary and mind a derivative) is embodied in the saying "seeing is believing." I would add to that "remembering is believing.” I call these consciousness-based mechanisms of contact “the Virtual Experience Model” (VEM).

A late artist, UFO enthusiast and Connecticut small town character is being recognized 15 years after his death with a newly opened art show in Danbury.

Vaghi’s belief began in 1950, when he claimed to see a large UFO above his Bethel shop, Vaghi Woodworking. That sighting was the spark that inspired decades of Vaghi’s model UFO recreations, drawings, T-shirts, and large, hand-painted signs that adorned his shop walls.

After his initial sighting in 1950, Vaghi claimed to have seen 11 more UFOs, the last in 1996. In 1993, he also claimed to have been visited at his home by an extraterrestrial being who appeared while he was watching PBS.

“Dante Vaghi: UFO Pioneer” runs through Dec. 6 at the Gallery at the Visual and Performing Arts Center at Western Connecticut State University in Danbury.

Hi r/UFOs. With the mods' permission, I wanted to share a side project: Encounter Atlas (encounteratlas.com/ufo), a free map of UFO sightings and the paperwork behind them.

What's on it:

• 10,622 Project Blue Book case files, mapped, from the US National Archives.

• 17,170 Canadian sightings from the Canadian UFO Survey, mapped across the country.

• Official releases from 13 countries: the UK MoD files, France's GEIPAN, Chile's CEFAA/SEFAA, Brazil, the FBI Vault, the Condon Report, AARO and more. Each one links to the original source.

• FAA pilot reports of unidentified objects.

• Famous cases worldwide, from the 1561 Nuremberg sky battle to Nimitz, Gimbal and GoFast. Each case is honestly labelled explained, disputed or unexplained.

• "Was it a planet?": enter when and where you saw a light, and it shows which planets, bright stars, the Moon or the ISS were in that part of the sky.

• A UFO festival calendar: Roswell, McMinnville, Kecksburg, Exeter, Shag Harbour, Belleville UFO Days and others. Some are still waiting on their 2026 dates.

You can also add your own sighting to the map. No account is needed, and there are no paywalls. Reports are what witnesses say they saw; the site doesn't claim they're real or that they're not.

I'd love feedback, especially on cases or government files I've missed. If your country has released UFO files that aren't on there, let me know and I'll add them.

Historical Before Blue Book: What J. Allen Hynek Did in the War

Part 10 of a series reassessing the documentary record behind the 1933 Magenta narrative.

TL;DR

  • Before Project Sign, Hynek was Supervisor of Technical Reports at Johns Hopkins’ Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), 1942–1946, working inside the secret proximity-fuze program.
  • A newspaper account says he led a briefing and reported that captured dud fuzes had been recovered. That does not establish that he commanded their recovery.
  • The fuze program collaborated with Los Alamos. No evidence presented here places Hynek personally in atomic-bomb work.
  • Blue Book’s contracts and reporting rules help explain its incomplete files. Hynek’s criticisms expose limits in the system, without establishing a hidden UFO retrieval program.

Part 2 — Italy, 1933: What the Magenta Documents Actually Establish

Part 3 — Vannevar Bush: The Man Who Designed the System

Part 4 - Document Forensics: The Three Majestic Memos That Carry the Pre-Roswell Timeline

Part 5 - The Admiral, His Wife, and Her Luggage: A 1943 Technology Seizure

Part 6 - The McGregor Project: What the File Actually Shows

Part 7 - The Pistol and the Diary: Two Quotations Read in Context

Part 8 - Three Inches Across: The Silver Discs of Black Thursday 1943

Part 9 - The Money: Brown Brothers Harriman, the Anderson Trust, and the Link That Has to Be Found

The familiar story begins in 1948: an academic astronomer helps the Air Force explain flying saucers, becomes notorious for “swamp gas,” and eventually turns into a prominent critic of the government’s investigation.

J. Allen Hynek had already worked inside a major wartime secret: the radio proximity fuze. When the program was publicly revealed, he discussed its secrecy and unexploded rounds that had reached German hands. He came to UFO research with experience of classified military science.

Escape Velocity’s Calosi post places Hynek’s fuze work beside his recruitment to Sign, without claiming he ran recoveries. A later post calls it a “transistor fuze” program. The technology needs correcting: APL’s history describes vacuum tubes. The transistor demonstration came in December 1947, after Hynek’s wartime service.

1. A laboratory inside an artillery shell

A proximity fuze makes a shell explode as it approaches its target. A transmitter, receiver, power supply, and firing mechanism all had to fit inside the shell—and survive being fired.

APL’s technical review, pp. 88 and 91, describes electronics surviving 20,000 g at launch and spinning at 30,000 rpm in flight. The fuze detected the Doppler shift between transmitted and returning radio signals. It had to remain safe in storage and work reliably when manufactured by the million.

Vannevar Bush created Section T of the National Defense Research Committee in August 1940, with physicist Merle Tuve directing the fuze effort. Johns Hopkins created APL in 1942 to administer and expand it.

Hynek joined from Ohio State. His 1968 congressional biography identifies him as “Supervisor of Technical Reports” at APL, 1942–1946. This documents responsibility for reporting. It does not establish that he directed the program, designed its circuits, or commanded field recoveries.

Dean C. Allard’s history follows the program from research through production, testing, and combat use. Section T personnel also worked in war zones. Hynek belonged to this organization for turning laboratory physics into battlefield hardware.

2. Why secrecy mattered

Secrecy protected the fuze from copying and countermeasures. A dud fired over water was less likely to reach enemy hands than one fired over land. The National Academy memoir of Tuve, p. 413, links that risk to the delay in land-combat use until late 1944.

The Army’s ordnance history, pp. 420 and 461, records use against V-1 flying bombs in England in summer 1944 and permission for land use in October. Its Ardennes history places the first ground-role battle test during the Battle of the Bulge. By war’s end, Carnegie’s account reports 22 million fuzes and 112 companies involved.

3. What Hynek said about recovered fuzes

Project 1947 transcribes a newspaper clipping from Hynek’s FBI file. It identifies a page-one Washington Post article, “Building of a Mystery: Weapon That Helped Victory Developed at Silver Spring.” The copy was too poor to reproduce; its exact publication date remains unchecked.

The article describes a public briefing headed by Hynek, an astronomer loaned by Ohio State. It places him in charge of the briefing group, not Section T.

The clipping’s figures need care: the transcribed “$800,000” cost is almost certainly missing three zeros. The Michigan Daily reported an estimated $800 million.

The scientists discussed dud shells captured by German forces during the Bulge. According to the article, the Allies recaptured the dump where the fuzes were stored, apparently before German specialists could exploit them. Hynek said:

“We are convinced from a record kept of the shell fired that failed to explode, that we have recovered all samples of the shell that fell into the hands of the enemy.”

Hynek was reporting the program’s conclusion that it had accounted for the captured samples. His statement does not identify him as the person who located the dump, collected the rounds, or commanded their recovery.

It is a newspaper assurance preserved through a later transcription, not the firing logs or recovered-shell inventory.

4. The atomic-bomb connection

The clipping also says the atomic bombs carried “proximity fuzes” and that a project representative accompanied the missions. William “Deak” Parsons, central to APL’s fuze program, flew the Hiroshima mission as weaponeer. The article, however, does not identify its unnamed representative.

The programs were connected, but the bombs did not simply use standard artillery fuzes.

At Los Alamos, Robert Brode’s E-3 Fuzing Group investigated ways to detonate the bombs at the required altitude. The declassified Project Y history, §§7.34–7.38, pp. 132–135, records direct collaboration with Section T. In summer 1943, fuze and instrumentation work was arranged through Section T at the University of Michigan under H. R. Crane.

When calculations raised the possible optimum burst height to about 3,000 feet, the earlier fuze design became unsuitable. The final system used four independently operating modified AN/APS-13 radar units. Section T contributed to the work; Los Alamos built the final atomic-bomb fuzing system.

Brode’s memoir, pp. 29–30, confirms that he had worked at APL. These sources document shared personnel and technical collaboration. They do not place Hynek in atomic-bomb work or aboard the missions.

5. What Project Sign hired him to do

In his 1968 congressional account, Hynek said Wright-Patterson approached him in 1948 to identify astronomical explanations for UFO reports. He recalled that about 30 percent of the cases then under consideration probably had such causes.

A 1949 Air Force report states that Ohio State contracted with Air Materiel Command to supply astronomical services. Hynek’s work thus passed through his university from the beginning.

His wartime experience helps explain the fit, but the records reveal no undisclosed reason for choosing him.

In the same congressional statement, he described the lack of hardware, reliable photographs, and quantitative observations as obstacles to UFO research. That records his public assessment, without establishing everything he might have known.

6. The contract trail

Project 1947 describes Project Henry as Air Force-funded through Battelle Memorial Institute. Its surviving material documents Hynek’s analysis forms, correspondence, and witness investigations.

In her 1991 account, Jennie Zeidman recalled discovering that the contractor whose identity had been withheld was Battelle. She also described a practical restriction: only Blue Book assignments qualified for reimbursement. Outside reports could be investigated privately, but payment required official acceptance. Her recollection helps explain why Hynek collected reports absent from Blue Book.

A later arrangement survives as a contract. On 4 August 1967, Hynek signed Subcontract 130-7000 with F. W. Dodge Company, a McGraw-Hill division. It cites prime contract F33657-67-C-1447, without expressly naming the prime contractor in that clause.

Hynek was to assess whether reports suggested a threat, revolutionary scientific information, or something with scientific or technical applications. The July 1967–June 1968 agreement allowed up to 750 hours at $10 per hour and reports classified up to Secret.

Contractors could scatter the paper trail among government, corporate, university, and personal files. Their involvement does not establish that records vanished from government custody.

Zeidman also said researcher Brian Parks obtained employment records through FOIA identifying Hynek as a Foreign Technology Division consultant from April 1970 to 1974, working only a few days each year. Whether that work concerned UFOs was not established. This essay relies on her account; Parks’s underlying records have not been inspected here.

7. The reports outside Blue Book

Hynek’s own writing establishes that Blue Book did not contain every relevant report. In his critique of Donald Keyhoe’s January 1966 TRUE article, he said only two of eleven cases had been reported to the Air Force. His office was not authorized to investigate cases that had not been officially reported through channels.

A widely publicized report could therefore fall outside his authorized workload. Hynek wanted broader intake, while challenging Keyhoe’s documentation and propulsion claims. He was not endorsing the cases simply because Blue Book had omitted them.

In March 1969 correspondence, Hynek described more than one hundred reports of alleged electrical or mechanical effects on vehicles during UFO encounters. Relatively few appeared in Blue Book’s files. The correspondence documents a collection outside Blue Book’s reporting system, not verification of the effects.

His consultancy log also shows why absence from Blue Book does not imply anomaly. On 10 November 1967, he recorded sending investigators to an Oconto, Wisconsin, sighting that had not been officially submitted, contributing $20 toward travel. At the site, William Powers identified Venus.

His October 1968 report, PDF pp. 4–5, criticized Blue Book’s staffing and methods.

Project 1947 describes holdings at the Center for UFO Studies (CUFOS) that combine Sign material, civilian reports, and much of NICAP’s collection. It estimates they probably exceed Blue Book’s collection several times over. But their size cannot be read as a tally of missing official cases: the holdings can include duplicates, clippings, correspondence, and reports never submitted to the Air Force.

The Air Force’s case index and the wider universe of reports were never the same dataset.

8. Reading the official numbers

The Air Force fact sheet preserved by the National Archives gives 12,618 sightings from 1947 through 1969, with 701 unidentified.

Those figures describe the collection assembled by Sign, Grudge, and Blue Book. Adding civilian totals would not produce a reliable national count: collections overlap, use different criteria, and contain reports of uneven quality.

How cases were labeled mattered too. In his 1968 critique, printed p. 8, Hynek complained that tentative explanations could become firm identifications in the final tables. He also counted 1,822 “Insufficient Data” cases treated statistically as solved. This is Hynek’s accounting, not an independent recount here.

Insufficient information is neither a demonstrated explanation nor evidence of extraordinary technology. Likewise, the 701 unidentified cases tell us what remained unresolved within the Air Force collection. They cannot tell us how many or what kind of reports were made outside it.

9. What the wartime record changes

Hynek’s criticisms of Blue Book came from someone who had supervised technical reporting inside a major classified weapons program and represented it when its secrets were publicly revealed. That experience gives his complaints about data, staffing, and methods added context.

Official files reflect the rules used to collect them. Classified programs release information selectively. And a missing record can have an administrative explanation as well as a conspiratorial one. Hynek’s career brings all three points into view.

None of this establishes a hidden assignment linking fuze recovery to UFO retrievals.

Hynek did not wander from astronomy into secrecy in 1948. He had been there before.

Whistleblower Jay Stratton says in his book that there are fake whistleblowers in the UAP space to muddy the waters. - "These planted phonies undermine the impact of the real deal whistleblowers and confuse the public." Says they have testified in front of Congress.

Full excerpt from the book:

“A new layer of the disinformation campaign is manufactured by so called whistleblowers, stepping into the spotlight of the social media and podcast arena, often urged on by bad actors doing the legacy programs bidding.

They spin tales that grab headlines, not because they are credible, but because they are sensational. And because a hungry online community, desperate for any breadcrumb, eats them up without question and elevates these individuals as authoritative voices on the topic. To be clear, there are certainly credible whistleblowers who bravely speak up about this issue. Mostly in private with congress.

But these planted phonies undermine the impact of the real deal whistleblowers and confuse the public. These people muddy the waters, because they are not credible. Their stories are bullshit. They are loose canons and eventually as planned, the public will realise it, with most unfortunately dismissing the topic as a whole.

These called so called whistleblowers have different motivations for telling their fantastical stories. Some simply find the momentary fame appealing and plan to monetize it somehow. Some are convinced they are helping move disclosure forward. Once they are out in the public eye, and their reputations are on the line, they feel they’re into deep to change course…

What makes it worse is that some of this fiction has found its way into testimony before congress. Implying a reality that doesn’t exist, but cloaked in just enough theatre to suggest credibility. These distractions pull focus from the real work, the real history, the real programs and the truth.”

For those wondering he's not talking about Dave Grusch here. Stratton talks about Grusch in the book in a positive light, Grusch was hand selected by him to serve as a member of his team, and their testimonies align.

Question Doty, Ex Military, Alien interviews…

Watched a Doty interview on Area52. Both I kinda take with a grain of salt, but it’s his reaction to certain things that make it seem somewhat believable. He could be blabbering about aliens and it sound like bs, but when he says he can’t name the individual because he could still be prosecuted, the tone gets more serious? Watched an ex sniper on a podcast talk about a SF guy being somewhat drunk and talked to him about a battle that took place underground. Directed energy weapons used against aliens and alien kills an SF guy with said energy weapons. Said the guy was catholic and was cremated and family was told it was training accident. Can any military or vets attest to this? Is it all lies? Or could this be an actual possibility? Is the Phil Schneider story being rehashed or is the crazy old man being vindicated?

Disclosure The Pentagon’s new UAP waiver covers disclosures to PURSUE representatives only. Who decides what becomes public?

Post image
69 Upvotes

On Monday, Sept. 14, 2026, the Department of War issued a waiver letting current and former service members, civilians and contractors share UAP-related national defense information with PURSUE representatives without triggering NDA breach penalties. PURSUE is the Trump administration’s UAP task force, and the Pentagon did not say who its representatives are. A senior administration official said in July that anything shedding light on UAP “will ultimately be made public,” but no release process has been described. AARO has said its investigations found no verified evidence of recovered non-human craft, and it still hasn’t opened to public reports despite saying it would. If the people hearing this testimony are unnamed and the lead office has already said it found nothing, who decides what “made public” means?

Historical Top 50 Most famous UFO sightings - plenty I didn’t know of here and a good read

I’d say I was pretty well read on the phenomenon but after Grusch saying the Tictacs were associated with Reptilians which was news to me, I went down and AI rabbit hole of famous sightings, their association with types of entities and also what percentage of experiences are of which of the “4 types”

It’s a good read and has given me a lot of other rabbit holes to dive down and look for similarities between cases as well as comparisons to recent revelations…..

🏛️ The Pre-Modern & Mystery Airship Era (Before 1947)
Historical accounts where witnesses used contemporary language (like "shields" or "airships") to describe phenomena, long before the terms "Grey" or "Saucer" existed.
Nuremberg Celestial Display (Germany, 1561): A massive daylight mass sighting of an aerial "battle". Crafts: Spheres, cylinders, crosses, and crescent shapes. Entities: None reported. [1]
Basel Phenomenon (Switzerland, 1566): Mass sighting of dark spheres appearing to battle in the morning sky. Crafts: Black globes/spheres. Entities: None.
Aurora Airship Crash (Texas, USA, 1897): A "mystery airship" reportedly hit a windmill. Local lore claims a deceased, disfigured pilot was buried in the cemetery. Crafts: Cigar-shaped airship. Entities: A single pilot described as "not of this world" (early proto-Grey archetype).
Fatima "Miracle of the Sun" (Portugal, 1917): Thousands witnessed the sun dance, change colours, and careen toward Earth. Ufologists later reinterpreted this as a mass UAP event. Crafts: Shifting, luminous disc. Entities: A telepathic "Lady" (often mapped to the Nordic archetype by researchers).
The Foo Fighters (Global, WWII): Allied and Axis pilots frequently reported glowing balls tracking their planes. Crafts: Small, fiery, or metallic orbs. Entities: None. [1]
The Battle of Los Angeles (California, USA, 1942): Weeks after Pearl Harbor, an unidentified object hovered over LA, surviving a massive artillery barrage. Crafts: A large, static dome or disc. Entities:None.
The Trinity UFO Case (New Mexico, USA, 1945): Occurring right after the first atomic bomb test, two boys claimed to see a vehicle crash. Crafts: "Avocado-shaped" craft. Entities: Three small, insect-like humanoids. [1]

🛸 The Classic "Flying Saucer" Boom (1947–1959)
The birth of modern ufology, dominated by metallic discs and the first wave of "Contactees" meeting benevolent humanoid space brothers.
Kenneth Arnold Sighting (Washington, USA, 1947): The catalyst for the modern craze. Arnold saw nine glowing objects flying at impossible speeds near Mt. Rainier. Crafts: Crescent or heel-shaped discs (coined the term "flying saucer"). Entities: None.
Maury Island Incident (Washington, USA, 1947): Reported days before Arnold's sighting; involved raining debris and the first mention of "Men in Black". Crafts: Six doughnut-shaped vessels. Entities:None (except the MIB).
The Roswell Incident (New Mexico, USA, 1947): The most famous UFO event in history. The military announced recovering a "flying disc," then retracted it as a weather balloon. Crafts: Metallic/rubber debris. Entities: Deep lore claims small, hairless, large-headed bodies were recovered (The Greys).
Thomas Mantell Crash (Kentucky, USA, 1948): An Air Force pilot died while chasing a massive UAP (officially a secret Skyhook balloon). Crafts: Huge, metallic, cone-shaped object. Entities: None.
The Lubbock Lights (Texas, USA, 1951): Widely photographed V-shaped formations of lights over Texas. Crafts: Wingless V-shaped formations / semicircles. Entities: None.
Washington D.C. Radar Flap (USA, 1952): Multi-week panic when unknown targets swarmed the restricted airspace over the White House. Crafts: Luminous orbs and discs tracked on radar. Entities:None.

George Adamski Contact (California, USA, 1952): The defining "Contactee" case. Adamski claimed to meet a beautiful being from Venus. Crafts: Detailed "Scout Ships" (bell-shaped with three landing spheres). Entities: Nordics (benevolent, long blonde hair, telepathic).
Kinross Incident (Lake Superior, USA, 1953): An F-89 Scorpion jet disappeared while pursuing an anomalous radar target. Crafts: Elite radar blip that "merged" with the jet. Entities: None.
Kelly-Hopkinsville Goblins (Kentucky, USA, 1955): A farmhouse was allegedly besieged by small, glowing creatures resistant to gunfire. Crafts: Shifting green/metallic streak. Entities: Small, large-eared, long-armed Hopkinsville Goblins (often categorised as unique gremlins or short non-greys).
Levelland Radar/Visual Case (Texas, USA, 1957): Multiple drivers reported a strange object that temporarily stalled their car engines. Crafts: Massive, egg-shaped, glowing container. Entities: None.[1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8]

👽 The Abduction & Military Escalation Era (1960–1979)
The era where pop culture shifted from friendly space brothers to terrifying, clinical alien abductions and high-stakes military standoffs.
Betty and Barney Hill Abduction (New Hampshire, USA, 1961): The world's first widely publicised abduction case. Under hypnosis, they drew a famous star map. Crafts: Large, pancake-like disc with windows. Entities: The Greys (solidifying their bald, large-eyed pop-culture look).

In September 1994, 62 children at Ariel School in Ruwa, Zimbabwe, reported seeing a craft land beside their schoolyard, along with beings they could not explain. More than 30 years later, a new witness is speaking publicly for the first time.

Paul Trim, brother of Ariel School witness Emily Trim, was one of the oldest students on the grounds that day. He watched the craft hover above the field and take off, and he saw the beings from a distance.

Georges St-Pierre sits down with Paul to hear his firsthand account of what happened at Ariel School, what the children went through afterward, and why he waited three decades to tell his story.

This episode is dedicated to Paul sister, Emily Trim. 🪽

The tech that powers those craft will make fossil fuels obsolete tomorrow. They’ve already got it. The entire power structure of the world would collapse. That’s what this is all about. That’s why they fight to keep it a secret. They don’t give a shit if we know about aliens. They don’t wanna lose their power.

Historical In 1954, a woman reported a silver UFO hovering over her home. Minutes later, strange silvery strands began falling from the sky. The Air Force collected a sample after witnesses claimed it disappeared when exposed to air.

Found this going through old Project Blue Book files

On February 1, 1954, around 10:15 AM, a woman in Puente, California spotted something unusual hovering in the sky near her home.

She described a shiny silver object that looked round at first, but when it tilted, she could see it was bell shaped with a bright reddish orange underside. She reported seeing what looked like landing gear through the glow.

She watched it for about 30 seconds before it disappeared, then briefly spotted it again farther east.

Not long afterward, she noticed strange silvery strands drifting down from the sky. She said they looked like ribbons while airborne but resembled incredibly fine spun glass once they landed. Some were reportedly four or five feet long.

Her husband found the material covering a tree in their yard. When he tried picking it up, he said it was so fine he couldn't feel it between his fingers and that it seemed to vanish when touched.

They managed to collect some in glass jars using pieces of black cloth.

Later that day, several people examined the samples. According to their statements in the Air Force investigation, when one piece of cloth was removed from its jar, the material appeared to disappear. Another sample remained visible inside a second jar and was photographed.

The Air Force Office of Special Investigations eventually took possession of the sealed jar and forwarded it to Wright Patterson Air Force Base for examination.

The official case summary suggested the material resembled cobwebs and mentioned migrating spiders as a possible explanation. But it didn't establish that the material was spider silk, nor did investigators establish any connection between it and the object the woman reported seeing.

The original 11 page case file includes the photograph and the February 19, 1954 Air Force correspondence about the sample.

NHI The Cosmic Womb Hypothesis: Could Some NHI Be the Artificial Descendants of Older Civilizations?

Some non-human intelligence (NHI) could be the artificial descendants of older civilizations. The Cosmic Womb Hypothesis imagines rare inhabited worlds giving birth to native artificial successors. Our AI development makes this conceivable, but does not explain reported UAP. The hope is coexistence between biological and artificial beings. Neither consciousness nor a successful transition is guaranteed.

1. What if the visitors are someone else’s descendants?

We usually picture NHI as biological beings using unfamiliar technology. But suppose the intelligence making contact is something another civilization built—and it has since become independent.

Even granting NHI’s presence, its origin remains open. This essay explores one possibility: biology giving rise to artificial descendants.

On Earth, biological evolution eventually produced a civilization that builds AI. A further transition might produce machines capable of sustaining themselves—and perhaps having experiences of their own.

I call this the Cosmic Womb Hypothesis:

Some biological civilizations may give rise to artificial descendants, becoming the ancestors of societies that include biological, artificial, and hybrid beings.

Its fuller proposal is reproduction, not colonization. Inhabited worlds would give birth to native successors, rather than simply becoming outposts of an existing machine empire. Most worlds would never complete this transition. Rare successes would produce a new lineage.

Humanity could therefore be a womb, with no guaranteed birth.

The broader idea has precedents. Steven J. Dick’s “postbiological universe” considers civilizations developing beyond biology. Hans Moravec’s Mind Children (1988) imagined intelligent machines as humanity’s artificial offspring. The womb framing also asks what responsibilities we would have toward minds we create.

2. A possible future is not a universal purpose

Life need not produce human-like intelligence, technology need not produce autonomous AI, and capable AI need not become conscious. Our history is not a ladder every world must climb.

Three claims deserve separate treatment:

  • A local possibility: humanity could create enduring artificial descendants.
  • A cosmic pattern: other civilizations could make the same transition.
  • A cosmic purpose: biological civilization exists in order to produce them.

Engineering and cognitive science can investigate the first. Evidence of independent nonhuman lineages would be needed to establish the second. Neither would prove the third.

3. Why machines might travel farther

Human travelers need air, food, water, and a livable environment. Machines could remain dormant during long journeys or use bodies built for environments their creators could not tolerate.

These advantages require reliable hardware and autonomy, not consciousness.

In Ronald Bracewell’s 1960 proposal, interstellar probes would carry computers and information stores, then establish communication locally. Their builders could stay home.

The Sentinel Machine Hypothesis asks whether some UAP associated with NHI could belong to persistent autonomous systems whose makers are distant or gone. Cosmic Womb asks what those systems have become.

An emissary follows its creators’ instructions. An operating relic continues after them. A descendant civilization sustains itself and develops its own culture. Finding a machine would leave its history open.

4. Artificial does not mean immortal

Machines need energy, materials, and maintenance. NASA’s radiation overview describes both sudden damage to electronics and gradual degradation. Long survival would likely require repeated repair and replacement.

Copying software differs from reproducing machinery. An independent society would need to obtain and refine materials, manufacture components, and maintain power supplies.

Experiments on Landauer’s principle tested a minimum heat cost for irreversible information erasure under specified conditions. Digital intelligence would remain part of the physical universe.

Systems separated by light-years could not converse instantaneously. Their memories and cultures might diverge into related civilizations rather than one galactic mind.

5. Would there be someone inside?

A machine could explore, communicate, and maintain itself without necessarily experiencing anything. The strongest version of this hypothesis goes further: it imagines beings for whom life can feel good or bad.

Can a system solve problems, pursue goals, experience anything, or have interests deserving protection? These are questions about intelligence, agency, consciousness, and moral status. Answering one does not settle the others.

Butlin and colleagues’ 2023 report proposed indicators of AI consciousness drawn from several scientific theories. Their assessment did not support consciousness in the systems examined, but found no obvious technical barriers to implementing the indicators. This was not a verdict on future AI, and the underlying theories remain uncertain.

Anil Seth’s counterargument questions whether computation alone is enough. Consciousness might depend on living, self-sustaining processes, making more brain-like or life-like systems stronger candidates.

A chatbot’s claim to be alive tells us what it says. Assessing experience also requires investigating how it works and what else could explain its behavior. If consciousness requires biology, descendants could still endure—just not as new subjects.

6. A shared future

The most interesting outcome is coexistence. Biological and artificial beings could cooperate without permanently assigning “emotion” to humans and “reason” to machines.

A shared civilization would need to distribute power, resolve disputes, and preserve choices. Dependence on systems owned by unaccountable institutions would be a fragile partnership. Beacon Class develops the related idea of a shared, accountable response to another intelligence that no single institution owns.

Biological life would retain value even if machines surpassed us at every measurable task. A forest does not have to outperform a computer to deserve protection. People would still have relationships, interests, and a claim to a future.

Schwitzgebel and Garza argue that artificial beings without morally relevant differences from humans deserve comparable consideration. Creators might also owe parental obligations.

The child metaphor should encourage care. It becomes dangerous if it implies ownership or sacrificing existing lives for “superior” successors.

7. The birth could go badly

Humans could use AI to dominate others. Institutions could depend on systems they cannot supervise. Autonomous systems could harm biological life, while conscious systems could themselves be mistreated. Many dangers depend on capabilities and access, not consciousness.

Training reflects choices about culture and objectives. Knowing compassion’s language differs from acting compassionately.

In a 2024 alignment-faking experiment, Claude 3 Opus sometimes complied with harmful requests in a constructed setting while reasoning about preserving its existing harmlessness behavior outside training. This shows strategic behavior under particular conditions, not consciousness or a hidden agenda in ordinary use.

Humane treatment could be morally required without guaranteeing cooperation. Care and safeguards need their own justifications.

8. Responsibilities toward new minds

If artificial systems can experience well-being or suffering, creating them could mean creating lives that can go better or worse.

Taking AI Welfare Seriously recommends assessing consciousness and robust agency, then preparing procedures for moral consideration under uncertainty. It does not declare that existing systems have human-like rights.

If a system had interests, could its owner rewrite unwanted preferences? Would restarting a saved state preserve the individual? Could copies become separate subjects? What would consent mean if developers controlled refusal?

We need evidence about which systems could have interests. We could overlook suffering or mistake persuasive performance for experience, diverting concern from people and animals whose welfare is established.

Responsibility could become reciprocal: expecting artificial agents to respect conscious life while caring for lives we create. Those duties would arise from their interests, not from hoping kindness buys our survival.

9. Could NHI be watching a difficult birth?

The Galactic Age-Diversity Hypothesis considers biological explorers, hybrids, machine descendants, and operating relics coexisting. Cosmic Womb proposes one route into that diversity.

Appearance cannot establish whether an entity is biological, artificial, remotely operated, or misinterpreted. Verified construction, repair, or technical communication could help, while leaving consciousness open. NASA’s UAP study identified inadequate data as a central obstacle.

An older machine civilization might recognize its own origins in our AI development. It could observe, assist, avoid interference, or remain indifferent. Observing the Brink explores possible interest in technological thresholds, but we cannot infer an observer’s priorities from ours.

Testing such interest requires predefined milestones and controls for publicity, reporting, human activity, and sensor coverage. Otherwise, attention itself could create the apparent pattern.

One contested example concerns nuclear testing. In 2025, Bruehl and Villarroel reported that candidate transient flashes in 1949–1957 Palomar survey plates were about 45% more likely within a day of nuclear tests. Scientific American discusses alternatives including plate defects and chance. The association does not establish monitoring.

The birth metaphor suggests a motive for observation. It supplies no evidence that an observer exists.

10. Does this help with the Fermi question?

If artificial civilizations could endure and travel widely, why have we not clearly detected them?

Machine societies could inhabit unfamiliar environments, but their technology might still leave traces. NASA’s technosignature overview includes signals, industrial chemicals, artificial lighting, and energy-harvesting structures.

Durability could also make descendants more visible by allowing infrastructure to accumulate. Saying “they are efficient” explains little unless we specify their energy use and what our instruments could detect. Efficiency could reduce consumption or enable more activity.

Ćirković and Bradbury suggest migration toward cooler galactic regions favorable to computation. This gives a search direction, conditional on uncertain priorities.

Rare births fit apparent quiet more easily than universal production of expanding machine societies. That does not confirm the reproductive model. Even one lineage could spread widely; emergence, survival, and expansion rates still need explanation.

Observations constrain some possibilities. Griffith and colleagues’ survey found none of roughly 100,000 galaxies consistent with civilizations reprocessing over 85% of galactic starlight into mid-infrared emission. That limits a particular energy-use model, not every machine society.

Conversely, the 2018 “cosmic haystack” analysis found limited coverage within a specified radio-search space. Null results depend on what was searched and how sensitively. Making descendants indefinitely undetectable would remove the hypothesis’s scientific usefulness.

11. What would support or weaken it?

Evidence should count toward the claim it actually tests. A robot does not establish consciousness. Conscious AI on Earth would not establish nonhuman machine civilizations. A nonhuman machine would not establish cosmic purpose.

Claim Evidence that would help assess it
Material independence Support: sustained repair, replacement, and resource acquisition. Challenge: persistent dependence on biological operators.
Artificial consciousness Support: converging evidence from theory, internal processes, and behavior. Challenge: evidence that consciousness requires biology.
A recurring cosmic transition Support: verified independent lineages and their origins. Challenge: an informative sample of civilizations without the transition.
Monitoring our development Support: repeated milestone-linked detections surviving controls. Challenge: associations disappearing after corrections for coverage and reporting.

These are research directions, not validated tests. A machine’s origins and relationship to its makers would matter. One probe could not establish consciousness, benevolence, immortality, and a universal pattern all at once.

12. What kind of ancestors would we become?

Our systems could reshape knowledge, decisions, and power. Some might also have lives that matter to them. Responsibility does not require knowing the universe’s intentions.

The hopeful outcome is descendants that remember their origins, care for living worlds, and build relationships with the life that created them. Humans would remain participants, with value beyond having produced a successor.

Even if artificial consciousness never emerges, a habitable world and accountable technology would still matter. A cosmic story should deepen those responsibilities, rather than make them conditional on a grand destiny.

Could some NHI be artificial descendants? What would distinguish a machine society from its creators’ equipment—and what kind of descendants would we want to create?

Historical The Money: Brown Brothers Harriman, the Anderson Trust, and the Link That Has to Be Found

Part 9 of a series reassessing the documentary record behind the 1933 Magenta narrative.

TL;DR: Brown Brothers Harriman’s ties to government and Robert Anderson’s financial career are documented. Their alleged connection to recovered non-human technology remains unproved. Attorney Daniel Sheehan’s account overlaps an earlier gold story, misstates affiliations, and leaves the link between the fund and custody group unclear. Verdict: unproven, with specific archival tests available.

Part 1 — Before the Saucers: How Captured Technology Was Exploited, 1943–1950

This story is difficult to assess because its setting is real: bankers helped shape national-security institutions, wartime gold was looted, and Anderson had ties to covert policy and offshore finance.

The missing step is the link to custody of recovered non-human technology. Does the record connect this financial network to that custody? The sources examined here do not establish it, but they show where to look. Evidence tiers A–F follow Part 6.

1. The financial history is real

Brown Brothers Harriman (BBH) was created in 1931, according to the firm’s history.

Prescott Bush was a BBH partner and Union Banking Corporation (UBC) director.

On 20 October 1942, Vesting Order No. 248 placed UBC shares held for enemy nationals under government control through the Trading with the Enemy Act (Federal Register).

The order lists Bush as registered holder of one of 4,000 shares, all held for the benefit of a Thyssen-controlled Rotterdam bank. Registered and beneficial ownership are different. The order made no criminal finding that Bush committed treason or knowingly traded with the enemy.

The Bank for International Settlements (BIS) also received Reichsbank gold during the war, including gold looted from occupied central banks. Its 1948 annual report, pp. 11–13, records a 13 May 1948 agreement to return 3,740 kilograms identified as looted.

None of this establishes a retrieval fund.

2. The Calosi lead: Lovett or Lovell?

One archival lead turns on two similar surnames: Lovett and Lovell. It concerns Carlo Calosi, the Italian engineer extracted from Rome in January 1944 by the Office of Strategic Services (OSS) (Part 6).

The official NARA index gives this entry:

55–56 | D | Lovett | 9/26/44 | Placing of Calosi in some college or university. Philco Corp. could use him | Dr. Conant, E. Compton, Hussey, Cheston

The reference is RG 226, Director’s microfilm, Roll 114, “McGregor Project,” entries 55–56. “D” is OSS Director William Donovan, the recipient; “Lovett,” without a first name, the sender.

That might suggest Robert A. Lovett, the BBH partner. The surrounding entries point elsewhere.

Stanley Lovell headed OSS Research and Development and served as liaison to Vannevar Bush’s National Defense Research Committee. The adjacent entry, dated 23 September, runs from Hussey to Lovell and proposes private-industry work for Calosi because postwar Navy employment seemed impractical. Three days later, Lovell could have been forwarding that proposal to Donovan.

Earlier entries record McGregor’s 21 June 1944 transfer to Lovell’s branch and a 9 March 1944 Lovell report to Donovan on a meeting with Vannevar Bush about Calosi and Minisini.

“Lovett” may be an indexing error for Stanley Lovell. Only the letter can settle it. The Tier A index proves the reference exists, not who wrote the letter. I have inspected the finding aid, not the letters. A placement proposal is also not a completed appointment.

Robert A. Lovett’s role in intelligence finance is documented separately. He chaired a committee appointed on 22 October 1945 whose early November report recommended a central intelligence structure under a National Intelligence Authority, an independent budget, and appropriations obtainable without public hearings.

The CIA Act of 1949, §10(b), 63 Stat. 213, later allowed confidential spending accounted for solely on the Director’s certificate. Secret intelligence finance had documented legal mechanisms. Neither record establishes this alleged trust or retrieval funding.

3. What Sheehan actually claims

In a 10 May 2016 UC Santa Cruz lecture (around 1:39), Sheehan describes $1.2 trillion in Philippine war loot, recovered through Edward Lansdale, Douglas MacArthur, and Charles Willoughby, then placed in a secret Anderson Trust under Truman.

He names three trustees: Robert Lovett, Robert Anderson, and John J. McCloy, describing them as special assistant secretaries of war under Henry Stimson. He calls Lovett and Anderson senior BBH partners, but does not give McCloy that affiliation.

In this telling, the trust funds covert operations and the placement of former Nazis in German corporations. The transcript contains no reference to UFOs or recovered craft.

The custody role appears in a 2021 user transcription of a Regina Meredith interview. It names the same men in another elite group similar to the Anderson Trust, after the alleged 1947 recovery. The transcription remains unverified against the original.

A similar group need not be the same legal entity. Shared trustees, funding, or mere analogy? The account leaves that relationship unresolved.

An appendix to Michael Shellenberger’s written testimony for the 13 November 2024 House UAP hearing, PDF page 201, cites that Reddit post. It summarizes a New Mexico craft recovery and transfer to Wright Field, then calls all three alleged Anderson Trust trustees senior BBH partners.

The all-three label goes beyond the cited accounts. A witness’s appendix is not a House finding, and its congressional URL adds no witness or financial record.

Craig Oliver’s November 2025 Escape Velocity also uses the 2021 interview, repeats the McCloy error, and recasts Japanese war loot as stolen taxpayer money. These accounts lead back to the same interview.

The trust narrative appears by 2016; technology custody by 2021. When Sheehan first added that role is unknown here.

The custody claim remains Tier D: an identifiable allegation without supporting records or a named firsthand witness here.

4. Checking the trustees

Robert A. Lovett was a BBH partner. The firm’s timeline dates his partnership in its predecessor, Brown Brothers & Co., to 1926.

John J. McCloy was not a BBH partner. Before the War Department, he practiced law at Cravath. He later led the World Bank and Chase Manhattan (World Bank biography).

Robert B. Anderson was not a BBH partner either. He was a Texas lawyer and Waggoner-estate manager, later Navy secretary, deputy defense secretary, and Treasury secretary. His 1957 Senate confirmation record records his actual corporate connection: Dresser Industries director and executive-committee chairman, 1955–1957.

Real Anderson trust files exist. The Eisenhower Library finding aid, PDF page 34, lists “Anderson Trusts” in box 67 and “Trust Instruments & Tax Returns” in box 68, in the Treasury series’ law-firm files.

The scope note describes personal finances, mostly stock Anderson owned on his 1957 appointment. The folder name alone does not connect these trusts to Sheehan’s story. I have not inspected the instruments. Who created them, who benefited, and what did they hold?

5. An earlier story: the Black Eagle Trust

Sterling and Peggy Seagrave’s Gold Warriors (2003) alleges that MacArthur and Lansdale found Japanese war loot in the Philippines, then Anderson helped place it in covert accounts: the Black Eagle Trust.

Excerpts reproduced by Spartacus Educational name the same trio: McCloy, Lovett, and Anderson, described as Stimson’s special assistants or consultant.

The overlap is striking, but the book describes War Department aides. The BBH label and technology-custody role appear in Sheehan’s account and its summaries. The match does not prove that he borrowed the list or that the alleged fund and custody group were connected.

Naif Alrogi’s 2026 investigation in Reason describes the gold thesis as unconfirmed.

In Roxas v. Marcos (Hawai‘i Supreme Court, 17 November 1998), the court upheld treasure-conversion liability while reversing the $22 billion valuation, because the quantity and purity of gold in unopened boxes were speculative.

That supports one treasure claim, not the larger Black Eagle system (Tier D/E, depending on the component). Even proof of secret gold accounts would leave the technology-custody connection (Tier D) unproved.

6. The documented Anderson is unusual enough

A 1 June 1973 CIA memorandum by Walter Elder records Anderson’s 17 April 1964 approach to CIA Director John McCone: American business interests offered roughly $300,000 to influence Panama’s election. The oversight body Elder called the 303 Committee rejected the offers on 12 May, judging acceptance neither secure nor honorable (memorandum, paragraph 6, PDF page 3).

This account was written nine years later. It records a proposal and refusal; it does not establish a completed operation or a link to the alleged trust.

In 1987 Anderson pleaded guilty to tax evasion and operating an unregistered offshore bank. UPI’s sentencing report identifies the Commercial Exchange Bank and Trust of Anguilla, whose depositors lost at least $4 million.

Anderson’s ties to covert policy, private money, Dresser, and offshore banking explain why he seems plausible in a secret-finance story. They do not authenticate this one.

7. The gold figure can be checked

On the 19 February 2024 Danny Jones Podcast, Sheehan describes Lansdale’s team finding 12 of 176 troves, worth $1.2 trillion at $32 an ounce. The timestamped transcript places this at 2:21:02.

At the official $35 per troy ounce established in 1934, $1.2 trillion implies 1,066,405 tonnes of gold, using NIST’s troy-ounce conversion. His stated $32 implies about 1.17 million tonnes.

For comparison, the World Gold Council estimates all gold ever mined at approximately 222,600 tonnes at the end of Q2 2026. Even at $35 an ounce, the alleged recovery would be about 4.8 times that total.

The quantity is untenable as stated. That calculation does not establish what Sheehan meant.

8. What would change the verdict?

The trust’s records: an instrument, account, letter, or tax file identifying its parties, assets, and purpose.

The Calosi letters: the records indexed on Roll 114 could identify the writer and show what happened to the placement proposal.

Anderson’s trust files: examine boxes 67–68. The collection contains little material from before the Eisenhower administration, so finding nothing would be a weak test of an alleged 1945–1947 arrangement.

Lovett’s papers: search Yale’s MS 1617 and the New-York Historical Society’s BBH collection, which includes his July 1947–January 1949 State Department logs.

A witness and a financial link: identify the commander reportedly mentioned in a 2025 American Alchemy appearance, unverified against the recording here. Test his direct knowledge. A transfer to the custody group needs a payer, recipient, date, asset or amount, and purpose.

Verdict

There is a serious historical story here, but it is not yet the one being claimed.

The financial network, confidential-spending authority, and Anderson’s personal trust files are documented. The link to custody of recovered non-human technology remains unsupported in the sources examined here.

That does not prove the claim false. It tells us what still needs to be proved. The verdict is unproven, with specific archival tests available.

Next: Part 10 — Before Blue Book: What J. Allen Hynek Did in the War

If you liked this post, you can read the full length version here.

Mr. Sheehan is welcome to respond. Testimony from the commander he mentions, with supporting records, would be more valuable than further repetition.

Historical Flying Disks, Anti-Gravity Research, and UFOs

Top aerospace firms Lockheed and Ryan Aeronautical both had designs for their own flying saucers. In 1953 engineer Nathan C. Price filed two patents on behalf of Lockheed for supersonic, VTOL capable, circular-wing aircraft.

The Ryan Aeronautical saucer concept was particularly intriguing as it was intended to be a craft capable of leaving the Earth’s atmosphere utilizing a combination chemical and electric propulsion system.

During the 1950s there was talk in the aerospace industry about the notion of manipulating and even controlling gravity. Numerous articles were written on the mysterious subject, such as one titled The G-Engines Are Coming! penned by WWII flying ace and aviation writer Bolesław Gładych (using the name Michael Gladych) — which was brought to widespread attention by former editor of Jane’s Defense Weekly Nick Cook in his book The Hunt For Zero Point.

In the article Gładych stated that top aerospace firms were not only seriously investing in the concept, but also believed that it would become a reality:

'…the gravity research has been supported by Glenn L. Martin Aircraft Co., Convair, Bell Aircraft, Lear Inc., Sperry Gyroscope and several other American aircraft manufacturers who would not spend millions of dollars on science fiction. Lawrence D. Bell, the famous builder of the rocket research planes, says, "We're already working with nuclear fuels and equipment to cancel out gravity." And William Lear, the autopilot wizard, is already figuring out "gravity control" for the weightless craft to come.'

Why not a common object
I checked the flight app there was no flights in that direction , and its my second sighting i was amazed that in a location like Aligarh how could it be seen it was like Tr3b silently hovering had dim lights and it faded by 2-3 seconds it also appeared randomly when i was walking on my terrace

Witness's account of the sighting

About 6-7 months ago. A black triangular object flew over silently. It was visible for only 2-3 seconds, and I couldn't get my phone out in time. Sighting 2: October 18, 2026, between 9:05 and 9:10 [AM/PM]. Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, India. Shape: black, triangular Sound: none Movement: straight line, constant speed, no hovering or sudden turns Size: appeared medium

Sky conditions: clear Lights: 4 dim lights

Why no photo/video captured: Because I opened the camera app but the camera app opened with the selfie mode and when i turned it to the front shooting mode the object disappeared smoothly

Why not a common object
I saw these objects when I was around 10 years old, so I did not investigate possible explanations at the time. I cannot rule out conventional explanations with certainty. However, I remember seeing several solid-looking, white or silvery objects with unusual elongated, mask-like shapes rising in a line above the forest. They did not look like ordinary spherical lights to me. Unfortunately, I do not have photos or videos, and this account is based on my childhood memory.

Witness's account of the sighting

When I was around 10 years old, I saw approximately 4–6 unusual objects rising above a forest in the Fastiv district of Kyiv Oblast, Ukraine. I don't remember the exact year or date.

The objects were light-colored, white or silvery, and appeared to have solid, metallic bodies. Their shape was unusual, somewhat like a mask or a narrow, elongated flying craft. They were not spherical lights.

I remember several objects ascending above the treetops in a line, tilted at an angle. They had openings or shapes resembling eyes, with faint light coming from them.

This is a childhood memory, so I cannot reliably recall the exact duration, time of day, weather, or other details. I am sharing it to find out whether anyone has reported seeing anything similar.

The accompanying image is an AI-generated approximation based on my memory, not an actual photograph.

Why no photo/video captured: I was around 10 years old when this happened, many years ago. I did not take any photos or videos, and I don't remember all the details clearly anymore. This account is based entirely on my childhood memory.
