Photo Posted this Marantz Model 6100 that i picked up about 5 months ago. Finally had time to finish it.
This was my first time redoing a veneer. The original vinyl wrap on it was bad so i replaced it with a real walnut veneer. Would do a lot of things different next time, but it came out ok.

My basic setup
I recently pulled a selection of my vinyl records I had accumulated over the years. About sixteen years ago I went streaming. Recently I realized I missed that tactile nature of vinyl where it’s a process and you commit to the album. I have the most basic Yamaha integrated amp that has a phono preamp and a nice feature called “pure direct” that I use often. The Wharfedale Modus 8 were a flea market buy $100 for the pair and the Wharfedale diamond 7 bookshelf speakers on the floor I’ve had for a while. The turntable is a Fluance RT82 that I recently bought mainly because I liked the fact that it has a really solid plinth and also the dynamic optical servo speed sensor system. My reason for buying this mid level RT82 was to get a really decent table for the money and then look at upgrading to an RT85 setup down the line depending on how I liked the RT82. This turntable is an excellent value IMHO. That said after the fact, I’ve seen posts where people say the Fluance is not reliable and proprietary parts are not available from the manufacturer. Sadly that is the case —- seems Fluance has a replace vs repair mentality. That said, I’ve seen some posts where people have accidentally smoked their Fulance by hooking it to the wrong power supply. I wonder how many people have posted that their Fluance turntable quit when maybe they accidentally hooked up an AC 12V power supply instead of the OEM power supply that contains the AC TO DC inverter. If you hook up an AC supply to this DC motor and electronics that drive the Fluance RT series it will be no bueno and you’ll have a dead turntable. I’ve only had mine for 8 weeks and so far I love it. I’ll see how it does for a year or so and then maybe add some upgrades.

Technics SL-5200 ($435) vs. B&O Beogram TX2 ($225)?
I’m new to vinyl and looking for a good-sounding, easy-to-use, reliable turntable without much tinkering. I love the vintage appeal of both options over buying something new, and since this is my entry into vinyl, I’m not looking to overinvest.
I’m considering a Technics SL-5200 for $450 or a Bang & Olufsen Beogram TX2 for $225 (with MMC3 cartridge). Both have been serviced/rebuilt, come with used but good-condition styli, and include a six-month warranty.
I’ll be connecting the turntable to two different systems: B&O Beolab 20 speakers and B&W 802 D4 speakers.
I understand B&O replacement cartridges are expensive, but are they competitive in quality with similarly priced modern cartridges?
Which would you choose, considering sound quality, ease of use, reliability, and long-term ownership costs?I love the look of the SL-5200 but know they are harder to service and you are forced to spend substantially on locked in cartridges.
I’ve demoed them both and both are working with no obvious flaws.

Suggestions Upgrading from an Audio Technica AT-LP120-USB
I’m considering replacing my Audio Technica AT-LP120-USB with a better turntable under $750.
I upgraded the needle and cartridge recently to an Ortofon OM Pro S and have been using it with a WiiM Amp Ultra powering a pair of JBL L52 Classics.
Looking for ideas on what turntable makes the most sense for this setup in that price range. Appreciate any suggestions!

Totally disassembled and re-lubed. New idler and steurpimple.
Even though it already has a suspension system, it was still skipping when my wife shut the door kinda hard (we are in a 480 sq ft pier and beam cabin). So I built a new plinth with additional isolation methods.

Discussion Tracking force too high?
Hello again! I made a recent post about a recent record I purchased that had some weird noise on it, but some people pointed out that my tonearm is really low.
I did some researching on my player (Audio Technica LP-60X) and turns out, I can‘t unjust my counterweight. The average counterweight for this player should be 3.5-4.0 grams, but mine (no joke) is 6.7.
what should I do? Is this a bad thing and should I upgrade the whole player, or should I just upgrade the needle (because some people where saying I should do that) thank you!

JVC QL-Y5F
I've come across one of these that seems to be pretty much BNIB. Even has the plastic bag it came in, Box has styrofoam padding and it has all manuals, card and I think a spare foot. Might not ever have been used but it seems spotless. Reports to power on and the table spins.
It's not cheap at about $400, but it's a thing of beauty and I was hoping someone could advise if this is 1) as good as the reviews say and 2) if the $400 is a decent price. Some of the information coming back says it's worth anything up to twice that, and I can't tell if that's real world or internet BS.
Many thanks in advance.

Question Nagaoka MP500
Hello,
I’m considering this cartridge to combine what I like about my MP110 and VM740xML. That being the warmth and smoothness of the MP110 with the detail and tracking accuracy of the VM740xML. To owners of the MP500, hopefully who have owned both as well, does the MP500 achieve that combination? What are your thoughts on the cartridge and its sound character? Is it worth the price or are there any compromises or qualities you wish it had?
Also, at this price point are there MCs that are more compelling or achieve what I’m looking for better than the MP500? My phono preamp can support MC, but it is definitely better suited for MM mode. It has a relatively high input sensitivity so any MCs would have to be about 0.4mV or above to not create a high noise floor.
Thanks in advance!

Help Philips 212 stylus replacement
Hi, I got Philips 212 turntable in really rough shape. I have to replace belt, stylus, RCA cables and power cord. Other things are quite straight forward (apart from power cord), but stylus puzzles me. Right now there is Philips 400 on it and needle is broken. I want to either buy Philips needle only or replace whole stylus. AI is recommending me AT-VM95E which by looks of it doesn't fit onto existing arm and frankly I am baffled what else are alternatives. I am not even sure current stylus actually works. Could you point me into right direction, what and where to buy (I am based in EU)?

Help What should I replace? Need help
Sorry, google is not helping me.
This is a Gemini pt-2000 ii I received from my uncle.
The sound quality on my turntable is pretty bad with lots of feedback and crunchiness? When I play a record.
I’m planning on getting a cork slipmat and some isolation pads for the feet.
My real question is what stylus/cartridge do I get? This stylus likely hasn’t been upgraded since the 80s so I really want a new one just in case I’m wrecking my records. I don’t know if I should just replace the whole cartridge or what. I’m not doing any actual mixing with this turntable, I just want a better sound quality.
I appreciate any tips as I’m slightly new to the hobby 😊 thanks.

Question Technics 1200 Loose Tonearm Base
I had an unfortunate accident with one of my 1200s and roached the tonearm, so I bought a used tonearm assembly from Japan.
I’m installing it now and there is a ton of give when not set to the height extremes—either fully maxed or bottomed out. Is this a faulty tonearm base or do I need to make some adjustments? The height adjustment lock doesn’t add much rigidity.

Any information? Marlux MF-146F
Hi! I always browse locally for turntables, and I'm looking for an upgrade to my P-mount Technics SL Q200. I Stumbled on this Marlux model, which looks stylish, but I can't find anything about it online. Does anyone know anything at all about these machines?
It's fit with a Shure M75 but no stylus, and is going for just over £100. I've chatted to the seller a little and it sounds well maintained.

Help Turntable/amplifier sounds distorted
Hello, about a week ago I made the mistake of plugging my CD-player into the phono input on my amp (NAD C 316BEE), and I’m scared it may have damaged it because now anything I play on my turntable sounds noticeably distorted. It sounded fine before that, so it’s probably not the turntable. Other inputs sound good as well. Have I ruined my amplifier and can I fix it? Or is there something else I haven’t considered?
r/turntables • u/Rayvintage • 16h ago
Might finish it.
Sl 1500. It sits a lot. But dig it out every once in a while. Then I have to cycle the pots and the switch to get it going again. That 33 off 45 switch gets dirty just looking at it. You can tell that switch is dirty because the strobe is dim and speed is off. Got a 1500mk2 tinted dust cover for it, hinge set, a At 150e with a stock berilum stylus. New silver mk5 copy headshell. It needs to be finished. Has a upgrade tonearm. 6 g mat.

Anyone using the Nag MP-700?
I demoed it and like the sound of it on a Technics 1200gme and I'm using a SL100c. I'm debating about spending the money. I'm hopeful someone in this sub has owned one for some time.

Photo Got my dream table - SL1200 Mk2 - Any fans here?
Had a 1210 for about 6 months and absolutely love the form factor. Picked up this mint 1200 to add to the collection. Condition is the best I’ve seen for an almost 30 year old deck.

Discussion Audio Technica Conical Stylus Impression
I have been running the ATVMN95 C stylus for the last week or so and here. my general impression of this stylus with about 25+ hours of listening.
My Gear is ATLP120X, paired with the base Project phono, Tangent Ampster ii and PSB alpha 3 speakers.
Previously i have been using the Elliptical Nude stylus and before that the stock Elliptical stylus that comes with 120x. My EN after 4.5 months had worn quite a lot, too much distortion in the highs, inner grove distortions were through the roof and the sound felt overall bad. However i am in the middle of saving up for the ML stylus as Christmas gift and didn't wanted to spend much on a stylus right now.
Here comes the absolutely disastrous decision of buying the Conical Stylus.l(ATVM95C) Found it for around 22€ so thought why not give it a try how bad could it be.
It is bad, absolutely horrendous to listen to, it sounds fine at first punchy, clean enough but as it gets close to even the middle it starts really struggling with tracking vocals, piano keys, hi hats etc.
Most recently picked up a City pop album Anri - Timely!! It has Pianos, Female vocals with high notes , strings etc. It just can't track really. The sound at the inner most groove is the worst i have ever heard from a new stylus. My EN which is like 80% worn still sounds miles better than this new concial stylus.
I am just in awe of how over poor the sound is , i tried playing around with increasing and decreasing weight to see if that helps but na it just don't work.
Found my old Elliptical stylus luckily it is not as worn as i thought it was so I can get through the month and get myself a early Christmas gift .
TLDR: VM95C is absolutely disastrous.

Discussion Turntables like TECHNICS SL-V5
Im absolutely in love with this turntable however cant find it for decent price in Europe. I also can't seem to find anything more like that (maybe Sharp Optonica RP-104H would pass. definitely not AMSTRAD SM104).
While there are some which are vertical they are exposed and I don't like that (e.g. pro-ject VT-E).
Technically I could put Technics SL-10, SL-15, SL-7 on stand but it would take a lot of space.
Do you guys know of any which i might have missed?
