READ BEFORE POSTING - New Rules
Rules
- Submissions must be related to Trip-Hop. It's not our intent to gatekeep what is or is not trip-hop, but submissions must be inspired by trip-hop or belong to related genres of music like downtempo
- Use the appropriate flair when applicable. If your playlist contains songs you made or are promoting, you MUST use the OC flair. The playlist flair is ONLY for songs that you are not promoting. Mixes are transformative and thus considered OC
- Self-promotion must follow guidelines (see below)
- Title must contain the artist and track name. Commentary is fine but low effort titles like "Nice beat" will be removed.
- Be respectful and follow Reddiquette
Self-promotion guidelines
- Must be trip-hop. Being "inspired" by trip-hop is not enough. Unfortunately we need to be more strict than with the general submissions rules to prevent spam.
- Must use the Original Content flair
- Maximum one submission per week
- Complete song submissions only. We are not a content creator subreddit. If you would like feedback on work-in-progress songs, there are other subs for that.
- While we welcome OC that fits the rules, announcement videos and text posts containing links other than the song you are sharing will be removed. The mods also reserve the right to remove low quality/low effort submissions.
- Submissions considered self-promotion include, but are not limited to:
- Original songs
- Original mixes
- Covers and remixes
- Playlists containing songs you made or are promoting
- Follow Reddit's sitewide guidelines for self-promotion.
If you see any rule breaking posts or comments please report it. It will get dealt with much more quickly.
Rules Changes
- 10/18/2021: Added details to rule 2 to make it more clear what flair should be used.
- 01/21/2022: Added clarification that mixes must be tagged as OC.
- 04/17/2022: Added new self-promotion guidelines.

Request/Discussion Wink “I’m On Fire” (1998)
Was reminded of this off-the-beaten-path gem from Josh Wink, much more known for acid house and funky breakbeat techno.
This had a bunch of the good stuff we’re looking for: some slinky beats, dark & moody pads, and a chanteuse vocal from an ex-This Mortal Coil vocalist (RIP Caroline Crawley).
From an album that is a neat encapsulation of latter-90s electronic styles (you’ll find more acid breakbeat, drum n bass, deep house, big beat, and the only thing Trent Reznor (Nine Inch Nails) did between producing Antichrist Superstar and releasing The Fragile.
Herehear (the album) shows that Wink could do almost any style he was interested in and make it sound compelling. I’m not aware of how much he dipped his toes into these styles after this album, but in doing my research I read he did an ambient album that now I need to search out.
Hope you enjoy, another left-field pick for your ever-growing playlists

Tricky last night in Atlanta
Only a tiny clip, but it was an excellent show. The music sounds exactly like the records, just with some extra. Marta and Mitch both sounded amazing. Some people complain because Tricky doesn't talk to the audience between songs beyond thanking us many times, but I don't think that matters. He's a musician, not a public speaker. Personally I hate when I go to a concert and half the time is someone rambling on instead of playing the music.
We actually got to meet Tricky a couple hours before the show when we were walking to dinner from our hotel and he was sitting outside The Loft venue smoking. He had just finished a phone call and was about to make another, plus I didn't want to be too intrusive, so we didn't talk long but he was super nice and appreciative. We also saw Marta, but she didn't respond. If Mitch was out there, we didn't see or recognize him.

Tori Amos - Juarez (1999)
A lot of trippity-hoppers have overlooked Tori as among the pinnacle of the genre (including myself for a long time) largely because of her singer songwriter moniker, subtle shifts between genre, and it’s rarely her radio songs. So I wanted to share one that will hopefully lead ppl to reevaluate her music with that in mind

Request/Discussion Heavy, dark and dense trip hop
Hey everyone!
I love discovering obscure gems on here, and lately I’ve been getting pretty selective with what I listen to. For a while, I was looking for the dreamiest side of trip-hop (“Cinderella” by Hooverphonic is so damn good, and it feels like nobody can recommend me anything quite like it).
Now I’m looking for the opposite end of the spectrum: the most psychedelic, raw, groove-heavy stuff, leaning dark rather than soft. Something disorienting or downright sleazy.
A couple of references to give you an idea of what I’m after: Tricky, but much denser and harder-hitting, or Massive Attack’s Mezzanine. I’m bringing up these two legends just to get the general vibe across.
Hit me with your recommendations! Thanks!

Original Content Ben Stokes visuals for Dj Shadow were NOT AI.
I emailed Ben Stokes and he was really kind to share how much of the show was AI. His contributions (such as the intro and building steam) were all CGI. However, Jay Drake did full visuals for Mutual Slump, Changeling and Stem and those were 100% AI (those visuals are shown within this slideshow). Other songs have a mix of techniques. This was my first IRL experience seeing a show that mixed techniques. Big shoutout to Ben Stokes for shedding light

Original Content New trip hop inspired by early Portishead, Beck and the cinematic melancholy of Lee Hazelwood, Scott Walker etc (no AI)
dusty sample based old school trip hop, the first track off my new album.
SP404>ableton. All samples done the old way, no drag and drop cookie cutter stuff and no Ai used on anything, ever :)

Playlist/Album Sexy Lounge
Hey guys, put together a quick 20-track mix built for late nights. Starts airy and shifts into heavy sub-bass and smoky trip-hop. Best played in order without shuffle.
