How do you deal with burnout?

I’m currently on my first labor and delivery contract (night shift). It’s super chill compared to my previous staff job of many years and the staffs welcoming and friendly for the most part. I’ve picked up a ridiculous amount of overtime. I’ve been working a crazy amount of shifts in a row and I’m starting to get burned out. I’ve been grumpy and irritable and I know people see it. Frankly, idgaf but they do cancel contracts here if it’s not a good fit so I try to stay on everyone’s good side.

How do you guys deal with burnout and just smile through the pain? Lol

Is 20 days enough to find a decent place to rent in LA?

I’m looking for a place to stay in LA for about three months, and I’ve been browsing Furnished Finder. The problem is that I’m currently abroad, so I can’t tour any places in person before arriving.

My plan is to stay in an Airbnb for the first 20 days while I look for a place to rent. I’d arrive in late December, so I’m wondering if that’s enough time to find a decent place.

For anyone who’s been in a similar situation, is this a realistic plan? Or would it be better to secure a place before I arrive?

RN travel pair with similar nursing backgrounds, but only one of us qualified for a travel contract in same unit applied?

My husband and I are both RNs planning to take travel assignments together. We have really similar clinical backgrounds, years of experience(I have 7.5, he has 6.5), and a gap(15 months)from our previous specialty.
—We were both submitted to the same facility and were told by our recruiter we were strong matches at 90%. However, we were asked to correct our skills checklists and work histories. I had been focusing on the resume and not the work history so one of my years was off. My husband didn’t have the specific specialty the recruiter submitted for listed under work history. We both fixed these quickly. About 10 minutes later our recruiter said that they wanted to consider my husband, he got a brief interview with the manager and bam…my husband received an offer and signed his contract, while I was rejected with an explanation of “we would like to see her regain recent experience.” Which is hard for us to understand considering we have almost the same clinical background, work history, and gap in our specialty.
—Our recruiter said he compared our profiles side by side and pointed to differences involving employment overlaps, gaps, and hours worked(which would be my PRN positions I’m assuming, which is home infusions do you don’t really know what your hours will be unless you had consistent patients). However, I explained that my overlapping positions were legitimate PRN jobs alongside full-time employment. My husband’s work history also contains gaps and overlapping dates, so I don’t understand how those details explain the different outcomes on why one of us qualifies, while the other does not…
We’ve received several explanations, but I still haven’t gotten a clear answer about what specifically disqualified me, especially when our relevant experience is so similar.
—We’ve already secured housing for the assignment, and I’m now scrambling to find another contract nearby.
—I understand facilities make their own hiring decisions, and I’m not suggesting we’re entitled to the same outcome. I’m just wondering whether anyone else has experienced something similar.
—Should our profiles not have been reviewed in detail by our recruiter BEFORE submission to ensure everything was correct and in order?
—Would you question the recruiter’s handling of this situation, or is this fairly common in travel nursing?

Issues with Cross Med

I extended my contract and Cross Med tried to sneak in a paragraph in which they get to charge me money for missing a shift.

I noticed it, told them to take it out and they did. They then got annoyingly defensive about it and said it was a new policy for the company in the last month.

Heads up because that is garbage. If I didn’t already have plans for the next two months and like my hospital, I would ditch them outright.

Cancelled and placed on DNR

A manager had let me know the facility I’ve been working prn through an agency for the last 4 months has decided to cancel me and placed me on the do not rehire list. She didn’t really go into why they’re going forward with cancellation. But I went into this understanding that it was an open ended 15 week contract and I can extend if I wanted to which was the plan. I had heard the charge nurse a few weeks back mention that the hospital is trying to phase out registry to hire more full time staff and only keep travelers which I can only assume is the reason. My issue isn’t really that but the DNR. She said there wasn’t any complaints or any clinical issues that would warrant it but was given to me anyways which sucks. Truly the only thing I can think of was me calling out one time 2 hours prior to the shift but I was able to come in the following two days to work and make up the shift which was communicated from the agency’s staffing to facility staffing. I really loved this hospital and staff and I was planning on applying directly to the hospital but now the DNR has soured things. The manager said she’ll try talking to the facility to see if they can reconsider or at least appeal the DNR but may be unlikely. She said my compliance is still new so they can help me look for another contract if they don’t reconsider. I have yet to speak with my recruiter. Has anyone been able to appeal the DNR or have a facility reconsider cancellation before? Or how fast has anyone found a new contract specifically a per diem after a cancellation?

TIA!

Decision paralysis lol to extend or move on to the next!

Hey everyone! Active travel nurse here just looking for another voice to help me make a decision. Don't want to get tooo specific with details for privacy but I'm considering extending for a 2nd time at my current assignment (peds world in the Bay area/sacramento area in California) or Aurora, CO. Time frame would be mid December-March.

Ultimately I know it comes down to the fact you guys can't give me the right answer because there really isn't one. I mostly want to hear feedback on what you do when you’re stuck between extending at a place that you know pays great, treats you well, and you actually enjoy the people around you that you don’t hate being at work vs taking a contract somewhere else for the experience of a new place.

Overall, my current goals are earn the most money lol (I want to pay off my car) and enjoy myself on days off/ have fun. I'm an outdoorsy person

Some details if you're curious---

Pay: CA: 2988/weekly va CO: 2818/weekly

Housing: I scored a great place here in CA that is just under $2000 and that matches everything I see in CO so no major difference there.

Unit culture: my current is amazing, didn't think it existed tbh. CO, I've heard good things but ya never know.

I will say I'm not good at making outside of work friends. I'm friends with people at work but never know how to make plans outside of work??? I don't have a social circle in my current location. I'm generally good in my own company. I think I'm craving community right now, I want to enjoy my days off and make friends/date so going to a new place feels enticing. but I feel like most places are pretty similar so the change of location doesn't necessarily become a game changer for the social scene but I do think that change sometimes sparks the excitment to explore which in turn holds more opportunity for connection. Or I just need to keep trying where I am now

Thanks for the read and any advice :)

THC

Please list current known (1 yr) facilities or agencies not THC testing. Insomnia is severe due to PTSD. It is controlled during the day with other strategies. Only orally consume it at night but the oral last much longer than smoking. Takes ME 90 days to clear. I need to work but this treatment works for me without bad side effects like pharmaceuticals. I am past chamomile and melatonin so respectfully don’t do that just the names of no testing facilities. I need to work. Ty.

Vaccine or Pediatric Primary Care contract

I recently signed a flu clinic contract in the bronx for 2.3k/week. However, I just heard back from a pediatric primary care position in newark, nj for 2.6k/week and have an interview coming up. Both are 13 weeks contracts. If I do receive an offer from the primary care, I'm unsure which to do? It's with 2 different agencies, so I also am unsure if I should let the other agency know. This is going to be my first contract so I'm unsure. I'm curious on what others would do

Switching to days from nights

Hi all,

I'm currently on a 13 week night contract and I honestly think it's messing with my mental health. Im going to ask the unit manager if i could switch to days for the extension I signed.

I'm worried though because I don't know what to do if they cannot accommdate that for me. Any insight? I was thinking if they can't accommodate the change, then I might just need to cancel the extension and look at other places. Would that be a wise decision?

TIA!

Advice for a new travel nurse. With Aya agency

Hey everyone. I decided to try travel nursing for once. It’s something I’ve been wanting to do since I was in nursing school. I find it very exciting, but I’m also very nervous to take on an assignment. I’m 28 years old, I’ve been a nurse for 3 years, now going on 4 years. I’m a PCU nurse. I’m comfortable with floating on my unit we get floated a lot. I know traveling isn’t the same as floating. I’m thinking of choosing California as my first destination, I’m with Aya Agency, and so far I’ve seen assignment in San Diego but it’s a float pool. I have a lot of questions about traveling. If anyone is with Aya what are the benefits they offer? How are you able to move in a new city do you get offered a car? How does that work?

Avoid Medical Solutions agency !!

Medical Solutions has been shady at best. I’ve dealt with three different recruiters through them, and the experience has consistently been unprofessional, rude, and concerning.
The biggest issue: I was submitted for a contract that I never asked to be submitted for or agreed to. I was simply making an inquiry and asking questions, and somehow that turned into a submission. When I refused the contract, one recruiter texted me saying I was “playing games” and became threatening and confrontational.
At one point, the attitude was essentially that I should be grateful they were even willing to take me, rather than treating me like a professional who gets to decide where and whether I work.
I’ve traveled for years and have worked with numerous staffing companies, and I’ve never experienced anything quite like this.
Based on my experience, I would strongly recommend staying away from Medical Solutions and being extremely cautious about giving them any information that could be used to submit you for a position you haven’t explicitly authorized.
Three recruiters, similar issues. At this point, I have to question whether this is a top-to-bottom company culture rather than isolated behavior.
Avoid them.

Aya pay change

Just found out today (my first day of a new contract) that my rate got cut from a travel to a local contract. I told my recruiter that i wanted a certain amount or close to. How likely is AYA to negotiate pay?

Looking for places to stay in Nashville that don’t break the bank.

Possibly taking an assignment in Nashville, the cheapest places I can find close to the downtown area are about $1700. Needing to stay within a 30 min radius due to having to take call. Looking for any recommendations.

Cancelled my contract early and agency gave hospital the wrong last day.. Oops 😂

So as stated, I cancelled my extension early because safety and cattiness/disrespect from core staff were going down hill and I didn't want to stick around to find out how low they were capable of going. I gave notice thru my agency and a manager stopped me in the hall the next day to say sorry about how everything had happened and she's really trying blablabla. Seems like the problems are very out of control and out of her hands. Anyway, yesterday was supposed to be my last shift. This morning, I'm packing up my RV getting ready to head out and I start getting blown up by work around 8am. Weird. They've been known to call people who don't work there anymore when they're on fire for help. Didn't answer any of the calls because fuck them but I sat down to look at my phone which I hadn't really done yet for the morning. I had missed a text from night charge at 0530 putting me on call... wtf. Then the visual voicemails pour in. I politely texted charge back saying I gave 2 weeks notice 2.5 weeks ago, my last shift was yesterday, management had verbalized receipt of notice to me, didn't think any further action was required on my part to remove me from the schedule (which I was actually never given access to at this facility which was always a huge inconvenience). Then the charge said they were aware of my notice but that my last shift was supposed to be today. Then a manager starts sending me screenshots of emails with my agency with the end date being today. I sent a screenshot of my notice email saying "My last shift will be as scheduled 10/17". They sent a bunch of toxic manipulative manure about how "the team" could really use my help, a patient needs me, a no call no show would reflect poorly on my record (I. Dont. Care.). Honestly just venting. Not looking for a what to do. I don't even feel bad. Just putting this out in the void so maybe someone else can get a kick out of the utter incompetence of CHI and MS.

New travel nurse

Hi guys!! I’m thinking about trying travel nursing starting in January. By then I’ll have 3 years of med surg experience (2 in float) so I feel fairly confident in taking a med surg contract. Does anyone have any agencies they recommend? I was only looking through Aya because that’s the only one I really know but from what I’m reading on here Aya is not nurse friendly but I’m not sure where else to look. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated :)

What clauses or protections should I ask for in my lease agreement?

Hey everyone,

I’m getting ready for my first contract and will be using Furnished Finder for the first time. I’ve lived at home until now, so navigating housing and lease agreements is completely new to me.

My biggest concern is  the risk of a contract getting canceled early, delayed, or called off before I even start. I want to make sure I’m protecting myself financially without scaring off potential hosts.

So far, I know to ask for a month-to-month agreement instead of a fixed multi-month commitment. I have also seen people advise including a clear cancellation notice period (such as 14 to 30 days) if the assignment ends early, as well as a clause for prorated rent so I’m only charged for the actual days occupied.

For experienced travelers or landlords on here:

What specific language or clauses do you include in your lease to protect against sudden contract cancellations?

What are the standard terms hosts are usually willing to agree to for travel professionals?

Are there any hidden red flags or other lease details I should look out for as a first-timer?

Appreciate any advice or examples of how you phrase these requests to hosts! Thanks in advance!

Travel nursing as a New Grad🫠

Travel nurse contract as a new grad?

About a month ago I applied to a job posting for an ER position via indeed. It turned out to be a travel nursing gig so I completely dismissed the job posting and thought nothing would come from my application because travel agencies require at least a year of experience in the specialty field of nursing your applying to. On Thursday the travel agency company reached out to me and asked if I’d be interested in taking an ER position at a rural hospital. At first I was skeptical because most agencies and hospitals require at least a year. I proceeded to tell them I don’t have a year of nursing experience in the ER and they told me that wasn’t a big issue and continued to ask if I would be willing to submit for the position. I said sure why not for shits and giggles. I sent them my resume and 2 hours later a manager from one of the hospitals they submitted to reached out and gave me his whole introduction and what not and asked if I was serious about the position. I asked a whole bunch of questions, bed count, acuity, trauma level, shift that they were looking to fill and everything. I say I’m interested and The hospital sends an offer letter to the agency which then gets forwarded to me. At this point I had been researching the staffing agency because I was very suspicious, which checked out. I researched the hospital as well and did phone checks on all of them.

Couple Questions for the nurses that have done travel gigs.

  1. Is it normal for rural hospitals to take travel nurses even if they are new grads?

  2. Do you think this is a good idea? Manager said they would provide support for me even though I’m considered a traveler even mentioned opening a new grad position for me after my contract.

To provide some information this is a level 3 trauma center with 17 total beds which includes 6 fast track and 2 psychiatric rooms. I have 6 years of experience as a firefighter/EMT in the Air Force I also had two ER preceptorships at a hospital that had 44 beds and were also a level 3 trauma center during nursing school. (I know it’s not shit compared to a year of nursing) I have my ACLS,PALS,NIHSS,NRP, and TNCC don’t know if that makes a difference.

Travel nurses: Furnished Finder + Properties by Preston left us without power for 5 days — here’s what really happened

My spouse rented through Furnished Finder, and the landlord (Properties by Preston) let the electricity get shut off in the middle of summer — not because of an outage, but because they didn’t pay the bill. No power. No A/C. Unsafe temps. He had to leave the unit and stay with friends.
And it gets worse.
What actually happened:
Landlord claimed it was a “Georgia Power outage.”

Georgia Power confirmed it was shut off for NON‑PAYMENT.

The “emergency maintenance” number? No response.

Left a voicemail. No callback.

Five days with no electricity and zero communication from the landlord.

Furnished Finder documented the timeline but refused to acknowledge the safety issues and closed the case saying “no further action is warranted.”

Why this matters for travel nurses
You show up to new cities, new hospitals, new contracts — and you rely on housing platforms to keep you safe. If a landlord can let utilities get shut off for non‑payment, lie about it, ignore emergency calls, and still get a “case closed” from Furnished Finder… that’s a problem for every traveler.
