I received a traffic ticket in Brooklyn for allegedly failing to yield to a pedestrian while making a left turn. I have dashcam footage, but sunlight glare obscures the exact moment the pedestrian stepped off the sidewalk.
I entered the intersection on a green light and waited for oncoming traffic before turning. An adult and a child were standing near the crosswalk. My recollection is that I was already about halfway through my turn when the adult stepped off the sidewalk, but the footage does not clearly establish the timing.
The video shows the pedestrian signal displaying a stop hand with a countdown from 10 seconds. After completing the turn, my dashcam also captured the officer parked on the sidewalk near a gas station, with another car partially obstructing his view.
For experienced drivers, how would you assess this situation? Does the countdown signal help clarify the right of way issue, and how much does the glare affecting the key moment matter when reviewing the footage?
